Re: Hands On: Streets Of Rage 4 Is A Grand (Upper) Revival

onex

@BigKing Omg... your reading comprehension is atrocious. Go back and read my initial comment to you concerning GUARD CRUSH, NOT LIZARDCUBE. Or don't. I don't care to entertain this topic any further since you can't follow along.

@Pepegol I don't know that much about modern Sega, but it's been over 20 years. Does the original dev team even exist today?

Re: Hands On: Streets Of Rage 4 Is A Grand (Upper) Revival

onex

@BigKing LOL yup. No opinion whatsoever. That's me alright. I have opinions, chief. Thing is, I formulate mine based off of first-hand experiences, and don't write things off based on brief speculation or gut reaction.

It just so turns out that quite a few indies are making great strides on the gaming landscape this generation, so yeah, I'd say they are worth celebrating. Rather asinine of you to assume I would extend that respect to all, however.

Re: Hands On: Streets Of Rage 4 Is A Grand (Upper) Revival

onex

@BigKing You know, there is the option of not buying it if you don't want to support it, and letting those excited for the prospects of a return to a beloved franchise - new team or not - enjoy their communal hype.

But no, people like you would rather spew your cynicism. Rain on others' parades.

I can understand having a skeptical opinion of something, but all you and a few others I shall not name ever seem to do in the comments here is contribute nothing positive whatsoever. You try to find any excuse you can to vent your frustrations toward your own nostalgic disappointment, instead of keeping any open mind to something new. Perhaps you should reassess your mental health before you bring anyone else down.

BTW, thanks for proving my point about having not played The Dragon's Trap.

Re: Streets Of Rage 4 Is Really Happening, Thanks To The Team Behind The Wonder Boy Reboot

onex

Judging from a lot of these comments, it seems you people haven't played the fantastically crafted Wonder Boy 3 remake. For shame!

The music should be wonderful, the art and animation superb.. now let's just hope this team nails the collision boxes - that was the one aspect of WB3 remake which felt a bit wonky.

Edit: It appears that Lizardcube is probably handling the art and animation, while Guard Crush is working on the collision side of things. Their game "Streets of Fury" looks terrible thanks to that old Mortal Kombat character model style, but the gameplay does seem to evoke that classic beat-em-up feel.

Re: Review: Space Ribbon (Switch eShop)

onex

@iLikeUrAttitude a poorly executed idea does not = shovelware. Please stop using that term. Space Ribbon is a novel concept that could have used more development time.

I for one was interested until reading about the poor item selection and rubber banding abuse.

Re: Nintendo Switch Nindies Showcase Summer 2018 Announced For 28th August

onex

@Mando44646 Spider-man is licensed to Sony.

DQ11 was announced a while ago, and I'm sure they're working on it.

Tomb Raider is possible, but certainly not the newer games.

You're insane if you think the Switch can handle AC Odyssey.

"AAA" publishers best bet is to bring over collections of older games. Millions of gamers out there who would love to play their favorite games however they want. Those newer shiny things with ridiculous benchmarks are impractical to run on the Switch. There is a reason Panic Button goes after the 60 fps games to port to Switch. They can sacrifice some performance to maintain the overall experience. Games like TR or AC(Origins OR Odyssey) are already running at 30 fps on PS4/XB, so what exactly are you expecting, a miracle?

Re: Lifeless Planet Discovered On Switch eShop, Arrives Next Month

onex

It's an interesting little game I played on my laptop a few years ago.
You have to manage O2 levels while also maintaining enough for jetpacking(later in game). The only thing "off" about it was the hokey character models later on, but I recommend it for anyone who likes a more chill platforming experience.

Re: Nintendo Switch Nindies Showcase Summer 2018 Announced For 28th August

onex

What is so great about AAA anymore? Seriously?
EA sucks, Ubisoft is ehh but I wouldn't mind seeing Assassin's Creed Black Flag ported, Activision meh... Bethesda? They're actively supporting Switch. Capcom is supporting it. Sega is slowly supporting... Blizzard is bringing Diablo 3 and probably more once that releases. What else are you crybabies looking for? We're getting Warframe soon.. what will it take to appease you lot?

Open your freaking minds to some indies for once. They are the future and continually improve with fresher ideas than anything "AAA". I don't get you people.

Looking forward to more game news, no discrimination.

Re: Miyamoto Doesn't Want To Make An MMORPG Because It Would Be Boring

onex

I noticed no one touched on Miyamoto's famous saying about delayed games. The reason they polish their games so much. It's because once they've completed development, they don't like to go back to it. So an MMO's maintenance is essentially an exact opposite philosophy to his own. It implies the game is never complete - which it isn't, since they continually "evolve" to improve gameplay.

Their practices may have changed in recent times, what with their newer games' post-launch DLC and online games getting minor gameplay tweaks, but that was an initiative brought on by Kimishima and investors.

Re: Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night Won't Be Coming Out This Year After All

onex

I have infinitely more confidence in IGA than I ever had for Inafune. The latter being credited as the creator of Mega Man didn't help MN9 since the guy is nothing more than a character designer. Creating a cool character bodes well for animation, but doesn't always make for a good game. That takes good gameplay and level design. IGA understands level design whereas Inafune does not. I say let them take as much time as they need so we get a complete, polished product.

Re: Panic Button Dreams Of Porting Horizon Zero Dawn To Nintendo Switch

onex

@Callmegil Oh yeah! That reminds me, I have L.A. Noire on Steam I need to play through. Looks like my weekend is decided. lol

Yeah, I may be a little stubborn in my preferences, but I know what I like, and in my later years, budgeting time (and money) for games is a job in and of itself. Cheers and happy gaming.

Re: Nintendo Download: 9th August (North America)

onex

@Mgene15 Truthfully, I've never played Bloodborne, but if it's anything like Dark Souls, no thanks. Can't stand character movement in that game. Everything feels so ungodly sluggish. Believe me, I tried to get into it, but bad-feeling controls are a major peeve.

Re: Panic Button Dreams Of Porting Horizon Zero Dawn To Nintendo Switch

onex

@Callmegil Indifference is neither a positive nor negative sentiment. I'd be quicker to praise a game I've never played before bashing it. That says nothing of indifference, however, which is what I feel toward Horizon. shrug I don't get much time these days to play long story driven games, so there's no point in convincing me otherwise on that one. It wasn't really a contest, honestly. I play every Zelda game at launch ever since Wind Waker, and after having dropped 400 for the Switch and a couple games, there was no way to fit HZD into my time or budget.

I did play Edith Finch, and it was a neat little game! Interesting story, but I wouldn't say it was the best game by any means. Unless you missed a relative, it has pretty much zero replay value. I won't discredit its clever presentation though.

Rockstar is a different beast entirely. They're practically masters of open world games, which is why RDR2 has so many excited. Except when it comes to story in their games, I think the gameplay is excellent already that you don't need to pursue the story to have a good time, but it's there if you want it. I never finished RDR1, but I played enough of it to deem it one of my top 5 gaming experiences of all time. Maybe it's me, but I don't need a story front and center if the gameplay loop is enjoyable enough. Nothing against those who do, just a matter of preference.

Re: Panic Button Dreams Of Porting Horizon Zero Dawn To Nintendo Switch

onex

@Callmegil I personally don't care what game is awarded what, but it's a general guide of what the industry thinks is worth noting. Of course all opinions regardless.

Yes, i'll admit I do have a bias against Sony titles. They make great consoles that 3rd party companies fawn over, but I remain skeptic of their ability to maintain thoroughly engaging gaming experiences. Don't get me wrong, they have some gems, and their studios are making great strides. Like I said, I think GoW deserves GOTY status so far in 2018. However, I'm of the feeling or impression that they try to hide uninteresting gameplay loops behind eye candy.

There are franchises I loved of theirs that are now defunct, and Ghost of Tsushima has my attention, but modern Sony games aren't my cup of tea for the most part. I'm not particularly fond of games that spoonfeed you its story to be honest. I've always been a huge proponent of gameplay first. This is why I even enjoyed No Man's Sky at launch. You do what you want, and if you feel like digging for it, the story and lore are there for your efforts.

Re: Nintendo's Recent Legal Action Against ROM-Sharing Sites Scares Major Player Into Removing Downloads

onex

I understand the problem with keeping those old games lost to time and inaccessibility available to those who seek it, but I also understand where Nintendo's legal dept. is coming from.

There needs to be a middle ground. Perhaps if these ROM outlets only provided access to ROMs you can't find in the marketplace? Have someone on board who checks daily each ROM's availability to ensure they're not stepping on any toes. This is still technically an illegal practice, but it seems to me that Nintendo is mainly going after the avenues with easy access to games they provide for sale in some form.

Meanwhile, you can still find practically anything you want out there if you do enough digging. Like others have said, it's so easy to just download a retro console's entire library in a ZIP file. Piracy never truly goes away, so why are the pirates so upset?

Re: Panic Button Dreams Of Porting Horizon Zero Dawn To Nintendo Switch

onex

@Jeronan Ok, so I laid the "interactive movies" on a little thick, but I did say "in most cases", meaning I'd place GoW in that category to a lesser degree. In fact, they did a better job of incorporating story into the gameplay, similar to Deadly Creatures (although DC's story was entirely passive), even going so far as to take control away from you somewhat to emphasize certain moments, to which that I commend. GoW deserves GOTY so far, unless RDR2, Smash, Spiderman, or some other big holiday release blows everyone away.

Re: Epic Games Veterans Reveal Action Rhythm Game Soundfall For Nintendo Switch

onex

@NEStalgia Yes, I understand the limitations of mobile when it comes to depth and control style, however not all mobile games are shallow, so to speak. In fact, some have been re-tailored in the porting process to better match a console gaming experience.

To completely brush off a potential unique experience simply because it "looks like a mobile game" is a tad immature imo. But hey, to each his own.

Re: Panic Button Dreams Of Porting Horizon Zero Dawn To Nintendo Switch

onex

@Fight_Teza_Fight For the last time, my disinterest in a game has nothing to do with whether a game is good or not. It seems you are taking issue with my indifference. I've made my reasons known, so please get over it. If you think HZD is amazeballs, great. I'm happy for you. I'm a bit more selective with my gaming experiences - mainly due to time and money, and while little niggles may not seem like a big deal to you because "OMG STORY THO!!", they're enough for me to pass on that experience.

If you care to watch the video that made me change my mind about wanting HZD, you can view it here:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aVPXKdSEGNQ
You may not agree, and that's fine, but it reveals to me the developers' priorities.
God Of War did a better job of immersing the player, so kudos to them, and I'm really excited for Ghost Of Tsushima and Red Dead Redemption 2 (although that's of course Rockstar), so it's not a bias against Sony, just a disinterest in HZD. Good day.

Re: Panic Button Dreams Of Porting Horizon Zero Dawn To Nintendo Switch

onex

@Fight_Teza_Fight See, the thing about opinions, is that you don't have to agree with them, but I have mine and you have yours.

Let me clarify anyway. Nowhere did I say that "interactive movies" were less of a game. Some people enjoy films while pressing buttons here and there. Me personally, I'd rather control everything, as that's why I play videogames.
So when a game is touted as this amazing thing, yet you can't interact with the world outside of its intentional, scripted targets, excuse me if I'm colored disinterested.

Re: Epic Games Veterans Reveal Action Rhythm Game Soundfall For Nintendo Switch

onex

@NEStalgia Tell me, what does this statement even mean? Why do people constantly ape the same sentiment over and over? Mobile games can be good, you know. They get a bad rap for being limited to touch controls or some other simple mechanic, but a lot of those games are perfectly fine when traditional console gaming controls are implemented - which I don't know if you knew or not, but the Switch has.
Also, the Switch is a portable hybrid, which by definition means it is mobile.

Re: Panic Button Dreams Of Porting Horizon Zero Dawn To Nintendo Switch

onex

Ever since I saw a video comparing physics and other things between Horizon and BotW, I've been reluctant to try out Horizon. It proves the developers prioritized pretty backdrops over actual substance. Yeah, it may have a good story according to the internet, but I can't get immersed in it if I don't feel like I'm affecting the world around me besides scripted targets.

That's a problem I have with 1st party Sony games in general. They look beautiful, sure, but they end up being very linear experiences, and everything is dumbed down just to get the player to see each set piece, just like a movie. That would be great if the gameplay met the same level as the scenery, but it simply cannot compare in most cases. So you're stuck with interactive movies on PS4, or solid gameplay mechanics on Switch. At least the Xbox 1 has crossplay with one of those...

I'd mention PC, but all I have is a laptop that barely runs Subnautica, so that's not an option.
