Re: Suda51 And James Gunn Aren't Involved With The 'Lollipop Chainsaw' Remake

onex

@Switch_Pro Gunn had one. gross. tweet. about 15 years ago, back when Twitter was mainly used for comedians to blurt one liners. It wasn't a particularly funny joke considering the subject matter, but it was a joke nonetheless, and for some dumb reason people like this vilify Gunn despite his light-hearted albeit crude creativity of the last decade. The overblown outcry led to Disney firing him, and putting a halt on Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Because of a really old, bad joke.

Any fan of Gunn's storied body of work would know the type of humour he tends to convey. It's not always appropriate, but neither is Suda's so it makes sense why they collaborated with Lollipop Chainsaw. His short films with Nathan Fillion et al for instance were hilarious, but not quite family friendly. It doesn't make him a monster.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Warriors Game On Switch?

onex

I've only played HW and AoC, but plan on picking up FEW:3H.

After hundreds of hours in co-op with HW, I'd have to say that one is best. AoC is pretty fantastic as a single player game, and really makes you feel like you're a part of the Calamity War, but the performance issues mar the co-op experience unfortunately, so I'll have to give top honors to HW unless the Switch's successor is BC and improves the frame rate.

Re: Review: Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition - Three Classics In One Shocking Package

@thaimbomb these aren't the PS2 games. They tried to upgrade everything for modern aesthetics, and didn't think to just port the PS2 version which would have worked marvelously. Instead we get a poorly optimized "upgrade".

That said, the games are still fun even in this state. Enjoying the newer control scheme as well, and gyro works well as long as the sensitivity isn't up too high. I just hope they patch it up quickly to iron out the frame rate woes.

Ring Fit is totally worth the price. The only game I play regularly for a half hour every morning ever since becoming a dad. The lil guy enjoys watching me move all around while he bounces. It's particularly great for fasted exercise too. 😃

Re: Art Of Rally Power Slides Onto Switch Very Soon

onex

The 1st trailer seems misleading. The camera is more dynamic/cinematic, and the view behind the car is much closer. However, the Switch trailer shows a distinct camera position pulled far back ala Rush Hour for PS1 or Mantis Burn Racing. Will the camera be fixed there, or will there be multiple camera options?

Re: No More Heroes 3 Footage Showcases Open World Segments

The open world is whatever. I get the joke. I just hope it's at least populated with minigames like the previous ones, and not just completely barren. That wouldn't make much sense.
Perhaps these videos are simply showing the environments.

Re: Talking Point: Which Game Stage Have You Replayed More Than Any Other?

onex

Can't really point out a particular level, but I have played Twisted Metal 2 to death back in the 90s. My cousins and I would get lost for hours playing through the co-op mode with various cars/characters. My favorite being Shadow. Such an absolute blast of a game right along with Wario Stadium and Mario Kart 64.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting A Switch OLED Or Valve Steam Deck?

onex

@Mijzelffan lol no they're not. $400 is not entirely consumer friendly pricing for a dedicated handheld device. And there isn't a dock included. This will be niche at best. I'd like to be proven wrong because competition is definitely healthy, but looking at the numbers, I don't see it causing much of a problem for them. At least not yet.

Plus, is this even going to be available in big box stores, or is this strictly through Valve like the steam controllers? Their hardware track record isn't quite flawless.

Re: Talking Point: Can Metroid Dread Be The Franchise's 'Awakening'?

onex

@rushiosan Luigi's Mansion 3 was developed by Next Level, who did LM2 Dark Moon, and it was fantastic. The same thing is happening here, Mercury Steam handled development for Samus Returns, and due to their critical success, they were greenlit to head Metroid Dread. If you played SR you'd know the gameplay mechanics have been greatly streamlined with all kinds of QoL improvements. For anyone who has played SR, myself included obviously, they're beyond excited for this one. Assuming Sakamoto doesn't squander the plot like he did Other M(the biggest blemish on an otherwise solid Metroid game), this title has the chance to be a great step forward for the 2d side of this franchise.

Re: Metroid Dread Tops Amazon's "Best Sellers" Chart

onex

@RoguePirate well I mean CP2077 was a new and quite ambitious genre for CDPR to approach, whereas Mercury Steam is quite familiar with 2D Metroid after having developed the remake for Metroid 2, Samus Returns. So they know what they're doing already, and based on gameplay footage it's safe to say that Dread plays similarly to it. It'll be just fine.

Re: Smash Bros. Ultimate And Splatoon 2 Become Officially Recognised Varsity Sports In US Schools

onex

@rjejr I was unaware a high entry fee was a requirement for an activity to be considered a sport. Oh wait, it's not.

FIRST sounds like a great thing for kids to get into, but how exactly does what you describe differ from a chess club, aside from that ridiculous tourney fee?

Sports, eSports, it still has "sport" in the name, and words are allowed to take on new meaning to reflect the changing times.

Re: Netflix Is Reportedly Eager To Expand Into Video Games

onex

Oh, don't act like you people wouldn't give it a shot if you popped on your Netflix account one day, and you're greeted to a trailer for a bunch of games to play at no additional cost.

...that is, until they run the stats and see millions of subscribers religiously using it in a couple of years, THEN they'll slap that gaming premium on ya.

And that's the day I finally cancel Netflix.
