Re: Interview: Suda51 On Travis Strikes Again, Nintendo Switch And The Future Of No More Heroes

@shani Killer7 - Part of the "Capcom 5" initiative to bring exclusive IP to Gamecube.
NMH - One of the greatest tongue-in-cheek franchises of the modern gaming era, with motion controls that didn't feel like mindless waggle, except when it was supposed to.
Lollipop Chainsaw - May not have been a great game by any means, but it was a collab with James Gunn, whom you may know as the director of a certain big movie or 2.
Shadows Of The Damned - another fantastic collab with Japanese greats Shinji Mikami and Akira Yamaoka.

Those are just a few, but each one of those was filled with so much passion and STYLE!, I'd say a man like Suda is worth celebrating.

Re: Review: Shadow Bug (Switch eShop)

I just picked up this game, and man, is it a blast to play. I went in blind not knowing about its unique control scheme, and what a pleasant surprise it turned out be!

I was expecting some hack'n'slash with a little ninja bug, but it's more a point'n'slash, which on paper doesn't sound very special. Then you play it, though... and point'n'slash ends up being super dang fun!

Re: Animal Super Squad, The New Game From PewDiePie, Is Headed To Switch

onex

@Varkster He didn't have any involvement, despite this clickbait article alluding to such.

"The game is the first creation to come out a deal between DoubleMoose and Revelmode, a media company owned by Felix 'PewDiePie' Kjellberg."

And by loose association, one of the devs at DoubleMoose also worked on Goat Simulator. However, Goat Simulator was from Coffee Stain, which had absolutely nothing to do with PewDie.

Re: Brawlout's Next Update To Bring Ranked Mode, Video Capture And More

@Paraka "They'd garner more attention and potential fans of what they have to offer which differentiates from the elephant" - this refers to the actual gameplay mechanics, not the characters themselves. My apologies if that wasn't made clear enough.

Also, I never made claim of the characters being irrelevant. Read the comments again if you must.

Re: Brawlout's Next Update To Bring Ranked Mode, Video Capture And More

onex

@Paraka Hahaha heated much? I never said remove anything.
Just that if the devs of Brawlout expect their game to make any sort of splash, they should consider adding other indie well-knowns. They'd garner more attention and potential fans of what they have to offer which differentiates from the elephant of the genre...and they'd better do it fast before Smash for Switch drops and Brawlout is rendered completely irrelevant.

Re: Brawlout's Next Update To Bring Ranked Mode, Video Capture And More

onex

@Paraka Well, if I'm being honest, I didn't know that about RoA, but that only proves the point that these Smash knockoffs are trying to become relevant with crossovers. lol
But that's what is necessary. It's what makes this genre appealing. These types of games are laughed at by the elite fighting game community. The namesakes set them apart.

Y-L is different, yet again, because Shovel Knight's appearance was from an NPC standpoint, but keep trying.

On the MK front, the AC characters and Link were DLC initially, and not part of the original game. But to that point, yes. You can be darn sure that going forward fans are going to expect an expanded roster for Mario Kart. Thanks for supporting my point.

Re: Brawlout's Next Update To Bring Ranked Mode, Video Capture And More

onex

@Paraka No, you're continually cherry-picking your own points for analogy. It is NOT AT ALL like having another indie character guest in an indie platformer. You can't make that comparison. Yooka-Laylee is its own self-contained world, so again, this is not like having Banjo appear in it.

Brawlout set a new expectation by having HLD appear as a fighter, affirming that yes, this type of game needs crossover IP to be successful. You can't tell me they didn't do that to be like Smash. Now, potential players of this Smash-like will rightfully expect more indie characters to show up.

I mean, even the name itself is a nod to a previous Smash entry. You can't bite off a game like that and not follow through with similar traits. Rivals Of Aether is different in that they are keeping the world self-contained.

Re: Brawlout's Next Update To Bring Ranked Mode, Video Capture And More

onex

@Paraka Hate to break it to you, but the only reason Smash was a roaring success is because of Nintendo's IP crossover and essentially its celebration of such. If any indie expects to stand out as a "Smash"-like, they're going to need to have other IP in their game besides "generic fighter frog" etc. Hyper Light Drifter is a nice start, but there needs to be more. Get Shantae, Shovel Knight, Dusty, and some other darlings, then it'll be a proper arena fighter.

Re: Infernium Will Scare Its Way Onto The NA eShop Next Week

onex

Not at that price. He's out of his mind. Hellblade - an "AA" indie horror/action game on Ps4 - was $19.99 at launch, from a studio of say.. 40 people?
This cat expects 25 bucks for a one-man developed first person sorceror shooty thing? Yeah. Ok. That skeleton (I guess?) in the trailer looks like a stick figure.

Re: Review: Castle of Heart (Switch eShop)

onex

This game's "floatiness" reminds me highly of Gunman Clive going by @Shiryu 's video. And it appears they've polished everything a bit more since the last video I saw a month ago. Might grab this on a sale.

Re: Review: Attack On Titan 2 (Switch)

onex

@Agramonte Oh, so you've played it then?
I mean you must have to know exactly the quality of the game, right?
Or you could have just said you're cheap and will wait for a sale because you can't afford full price games. Believe me, brother/sister?, I know your pain.

Re: Review: Kirby Star Allies (Switch)

onex

News flash, party poopers: KIRBY IS EASY!
Always has been and always will be.
Much like the pink puff himself (itself?), Kirby gameplay is all about sweet, sweet enjoyment. Sure, it's not for everyone - especially if you're looking for punishing difficulty - but it's Kirby. These games are always the same - simple fun. The bonus with this entry is the nice new lick of paint.

Also, good to hear the post-content has ability-limit runs. There's your challenge right there.

Re: Review: Scribblenauts: Showdown (Switch)

onex

About expected. That trailer looked terrible. You can't plop a versus mode on just any game type and expect it to work, especially a game like Scribblenauts.

All they had to do was expand the game glossary and add co-op. How hard is that, Shiver?

Re: This Is What Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes Looks Like In Action

onex

Only played the first NMH, and it was great. At first glance, it looked like Travis Strikes Again had turned into a clone of Furi - IF YOU LISTEN TO THE ANNOUNCER INSTEAD OF GUT REACTING TO A FEW SECONDS OF EARLY FOOTAGE however, you'd know there is going to be a variety of game styles within this package.
How does one not get excited if you played the others and enjoyed them? As long as it controls well (Suda is bonkers, but his grasp on game control is equally so), I'm sure it will be a true Suda gem.

Re: Review: Ace Of Seafood (Switch eShop)

onex

So, is this a rail shooter, or do you have free roam? Fish with frickin lasers sounds awesome if it's free roam. I can deal with poor camera control. That's an issue with most games anyway.
