Update: Shin'en has informed us that The Touryst will be playable at Gamescom this week, so you'll most definitely want to swing by the Nintendo booth if you're heading to Cologne for the event.
The talented folks over at Shin'en Multimedia never fail to impress with their games on Nintendo platforms, and their upcoming blocky adventure The Touryst looks set to maintain that record. Heck, you can even go into an arcade and play a lo-fi version of FAST RMX in the game if that floats your proverbial boat.
Here's a bit more info from Shin'en themselves about their upcoming game:
You are just arriving at Monument Island. Want to go swimming? Or rather take a dive into the deep sea? Or do you want to visit the amusement arcade, do some shopping, dance at the beach party? Fancy some surfing? Or will you talk with the strange old tourist and listen what he has to say about these ancient mysterious monuments...
- Discover exotic islands and explore ancient monuments
- Climb into deep mines and uncover secret passages
- Make the trip you always wanted and enjoy the tourist life
An action adventure as varied as real life
Never seen before visuals, at 60fps and up to 1080p
Enjoy your vacation!
Does this do it for you? Let us know if you plan to pick this up when it lands on Switch this November.

Oh, boy, 60fps and up to 1080p. Some of the more discerning people are most certainly going to be pleased...
This one looks really interesting. And you can usually trust in Shin'en to get the most out of Nintendo's hardware. Definitely one to keep an eye on.
I love these guys and will definitely try this game soon. My only complaint is that they hadn't release Fast RMX in physical form yet, I would so buy that again if a physical edition exist.
I wonder if it's (partially) procedurally-generated?
Regardless, it looks great!
I'm a huge fan of Shin'en and this game looks very promising. Can't wait to see more
It's been a while since we've had an entirely new game from Shin'en... I missed those guys. I'm in!
Thisa looks great, i'd love to have that arcade version of fast RMX as a standalone game.
Oh hey, it's Minecraft!
This looks great!
This looks great. I will have to pick this one up for sure.
The art style on this greatly reminded me of that Zelda-inspired game for the PS3, 3D Dot Game Heroes.
That being said, this definitely looks like it has a lot of potential!
Graphics look cool, but I think the trailer looked kinda boring. Though I heard things about Shin'en so I might check this out.
I will always play a new Shin'en game. They are the definition of a high-quality indie studio.
This new one looks very interesting... I'll def be giving it a go.
@ThanosReXXX Well with about 12 polygons displayed, it should run a 6000 FPS at least.
I usually don't like voxelesque design, but this looks varied and dynamic enough to hold my interest. Shin'en is a proven developer, and I'll gladly support their releases. Love me some fast RMX
This is the best game of the showcase. Shinen is the real master of Nintendo hardware, even today Fast RMX remains the most technically superior game on Switch.
I've seen other places already make the same comparison I thought when I saw this...definite StarTropics vibe to me.
Shin'en makes some great games, and this looks up to par. I particularly like the retro version of FAST baked into the arcade, and I appreciate the more unique take on a voxel art style with the advanced lighting. Looks like good fun, with a mix of Zelda's dungeons and a life sim hub area.
This looks like it has a main quest/objective in the dungeons with a lot of side activities. could be a lot of content here.
I like the FAST arcade game. I'll keep my eye on this one.
Looks great! Although the cube-men characters make me think of a mobile game. Everything else looks like a delight though.
I love Shin'en. This is looking pretty awesome. I'm getting a Star Tropics vibe from it. I'm sure it will be a day one purchase for me.
@Rhaoulos The lighting, effects and post-processing are demanding tasks too. The fact that this game runs at steady framerate (well, presumably) and high resolution is not a given. Looks really nice in my opinion, but more importantly, it looks like a fun game.
@Rhaoulos If the equation would really be that simple, then any and all Minecraft expansions should also be running at that same frame rate, including the super duper graphics pack...
I'm areal sucker for voxel and "-craft" style games.
This looks very nice ill keep an eye on this one
Day one perhaps.
Holy cow it's been a while since Shi'nen has made a brand new game.
Great to see them expand with this game. Looking forward to it.
I don't know why people don't like the voxel look. I love it! Reminds me of 3d dot game hero. Looking forward to it!
I never could stand Minecraft graphics and such, but this looks much cooler & diverse. Will keep my eyes on this one
only game from the Indie World i actually care about and will buy
Must say I have never much cared for voxel art, but this looks like the cubes are untethered and it looks utterly fab for it. The wave is genius
really hope there will be a demo for this one.
Please please tell me this is getting a physical copy. I would definitely pre-order if its physical, it looks like the game would be worthy of a physical copy sale. unless the company feels the game wouldn't sell well physical due to it not having enough of a pull with gamers or something..
nonetheless give details soon!!
This looks frickin sweet! Haven’t been disappointed by this studio yet. Definitely be buying this one.
Lots of little Easter Egg bits in this trailer, check out the Conwing L-16 (Sea Duck) at the 0:25 mark... instabuy!
The visual style & gameplay (at least from the trailer) actually remind me of the Link's Awakening remake. Similar kind of toy/playset look.
Love the art style on this one. Very interested to see more!
This looks fantastic, and with shin’en at the helm it’s probably a pretty safe bet. Highlight of the direct for me.
I love voxels but hate crafting, so, this looks right up my alley. And Shinen is awesome so I'll pretty much buy whatever game they make at this point.
Is this a star tropics inspired game?
Oh this looks really nice. Very much on the Watch list.
Never been a huge fan of the block-graphics phase going on since Minecraft, but Shin'en is a solid dev and the gameplay looks fun.
I'm low-key getting this for the FAST arcade game but I'll stick around for the voxel Star Tropics.
I will feel a bit sad if the game only has 1 track to race on, however.
@tzahn I had the same thought. Like what Fast RMX is to F-Zero, this game is to star tropics. I love how some forgotten franchises live on in indies.
LOVE the look of this, can't wait!
This actually looks pretty cool.
