Remember earlier this week when Square Enix's indie division teased a new game for Switch? Well here it is, folks: The Turing Test is headed to Nintendo's console next month.
The Turing Test is a sci-fi puzzle game set on Jupiter’s moon, Europa. You play as Ava Turing, an International Space Agency engineer sent to discover the cause behind the disappearance of the ground crew stationed there. You'll likely notice some instant familiarities to Portal when checking out the trailer above, which probably isn't a bad thing, but it does deserve to be viewed in its own right, too.
Our friends over at Push Square reviewed the game for PS4 back in 2017 saying the following:
The Turing Test is both a thoughtful meditation on the implications of artificial intelligence, and a competent first-person puzzler. Its systems are clever, its graphics make for unambiguous play, and its mechanical focus on logic is satisfying. Structural and pacing issues are certainly present, but they aren't egregious enough to meaningfully detract from the experience.
It launches on Switch on 7th February, which is in just two weeks' time. It'll cost £14.99 / $19.99 / €19.99 but you'll be able to take advantage of a launch discount of 10% until 21st February.
So, what do you think? Will you be grabbing this one next month? Tell us below.

Neat. I think I'm interested in giving this one a go as long as it has gyro aiming.
There's also a bit where a light on the gun switches between blue and red. And a protagonist being, apparently, talked at by a robot. This might well be very good, but it has instant familiarities to Portal in the same way that Genshin Impact has instant familiarities to Breath of the Wild.
Yeah, looks good. Ben’s right though, gyro aiming is pretty much essential
Love Portal, Love Qube2, so yes I think this is one for me.
What's the rating based on? So far I only see…. some puzzles which can be operated by a light gun and a good sound track?
What's the catch with the 16 year and older rating?
It's on Steam for 2.99 now.
I think they forgot to add the enemies in the game.
Agreed on the gyro aiming. Splatoon made me this way. I didn't realize how much I relied on it until Doom came out with that update that added gyro controls. Suddenly all the parts I was having trouble with were effortlessly defeated and thoroughly chainsawed in half, and I was able to crank up the difficulty.
@The_Pixel_King Happy for those who like gyro aiming but still no matter how many times I’ve tried, prefer standard.
@BenAV Couldn't agree more. Will wait for a discount though, my backlog allows it. Do expect that this game deserves the full 20 however.
It looks good! Will have to give it a shot.
@Bunkerneath You may also like The Talos Principle. Scratches that Qube 2 itch nicely.
Dang! This reminds me of time splitters, at least the astectic does. Can't wait to see more!
I didn't see any enemies in the game. Or did I miss some?
So another fps without multiplayer. Sadly this genre is still better represented than the racing category
Looks like Portal or something, but published by SquareEnix.
Looks like sugar, but it tastes like salt.
Simply amazing.
Well, I do love my control panel shooters
I love the genre this game is in, but wasn't able to care enough to finish this on Xbox One. No buy here.
@Friendly I'd guess something crazy in the story
Getting some Portal vibes. I’ll keep an eye on this one.
Why do all these Portal-inspired games feel the need to copy Portal's world design almost exactly by placing square white panels over all the walls?
Interesting. If there's a demo, I'll give it a try.
Plot twist: you're an AI yourself and have conceived yourself that you're human.
So the "NEW" game is a port of an "OLD" 2017 PS4 game 🙄🤦♂️
To be fair, they said "An announcement for Nintendo Switch"... that it was something new was just wishful thinking from the press.
looks good but also like after six minutes it could be utterly boring.
@graysoncharles I guess the puzzles would be ok but there's a gun and I um, want to shoot stuff with it.
@Balladeer I’ve played both. It’s not copying any mechanics of Portal other than pointing and aiming. It’s its own thing—
A unique 5-6 hr experience with some puzzles as well as alternate endings. It’s worth the $20, I’ve already played it so I will pass this time.
There's only one first person puzzle game I want on Switch, and that's Obduction.
@Agramonte the press doesn't care either way as long as they get clicks
I really enjoyed playing through this on Xbox gamepass. Exactly the sort of game that would otherwise have passed me by. Managed to complete it in a couple of hours, but was really satisfied. Not all games have to be long (I can rattle through sonic 1 in 50 mins). Some really nice nods to AI philosophy, like the Chinese Room argument too.
I think I played this on Xbox One about two years ago. It didn't hold my attention, but part of me hopes it sells really well if that could convince Valve to bring a Portal game that people actually care about to the Switch.
@Starvald Which means it'll be around 20 on Switch
This was a fun puzzler! Not as great as QUBE but definitely a great filler in lieu of a new Portal
From the title, all I could draw up in mind was Portal, not too far off!
"Not actual gameplay footage shown" worries me just a bit, however what is here looks AMAZING! I hope this turns out to be great as this looks very unique on switch
Every time I see a game like this get released on Switch I yearn for a port of Anitichamber on my favorite little portable/console hybrid. Such an excellent first person puzzle game, not enough people have played it. Here's the trailer for those not familiar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGsnm2nOnso
"I'Ll oNlY pLaY tHiS iF iT hAs GyRo"
Come on people. Sticks aren't difficult. Joycons sticks are trash though sure.
Looks good, I loved Portal 1 & 2. Haven’t heard of this before, but if it’s on PS4 already, then I’ll likely get it there instead.
@BenAV
I’ve yet to try the gyro aiming, but I only play in handheld mode and I think I’ve detached my joy-cons a total of 3 times. Ha
Just give me that gyro baby. I can't live without it. It's closet thing to mouse and keyboard you can get.
@Kang81 I play my Switch almost exclusively in handheld mode. Doesn't stop me from using gyro aiming whenever possible. It's just so much better than aiming with sticks and I can't play without it now.
@BenAV
I should give it a go, I didn’t like the feel of the joy-cons for Doom or Wolfenstein 2. Perhaps they’ll feel better with the gyro.
Am I able to pair a second set of joy-cons to my undocked Switch and use them?
I know Square Enix Collective is Square's indie division, but at this rate I'm starting to think we'll end up getting freakin' Parasite Eve before finally getting to Kingdom Hearts.
Looks nice. First person puzzle games are likely going to always be compared to the Portal series. I don't think that's a bad comparison per se, but as long as that doesn't limit or restrict people's expectations. Q.U.B.E. 2 was also compared to Portal quite a bit when that came out (by the way, for anyone who played that when it first came out on the Switch and got annoyed with audio issues, pop in and other technical issues, these have been very much improved on).
I think bringing up Portal is useful and the similarities in the visuals of the trailer really do seem clear...just as long as that doesn't limit.
the Switch is lacking first person shooters so this is a welcome edition
Portal without Chell and GlaDOS.. well.. I'll skip.
Never heard of this one, looks right up my alley though. Taking inspiration from portal is definitely a good thing.
Give me gyro.
Not only for Switch games, but PS4 TOO!!!
I played this one on Xbox and loved it. Echoing other comments - it’s a solid, short experience. There are some more walking sim elements (like in a Gone Home or Edith Finch), but they’re really well done and the puzzles are great.
I’d rather have Portal 1& 2 on the Switch to be honest.
So something in between Portal and the movie Moon, with Sam Rockwell? I could be up for that. :9
...have they even TRIED getting an AI to solve these puzzles, though?
first person puzzle shooter
Seems like an odd combo to me.
@SirAwesomeness41 One word: Portal.
@Maschinenmensch Give Chromagun a try! It's no Portal, but it's cheap and scratches the itch.
Looks interesting, but I've got too much to play currently.
http://chng.it/z855VjYv5L Invert Y axis petition for Luigi's Mansion 3.
@rdm22 okie dokie.
I wouldn't go out of my way for this.
Not so interested in this kind of game anymore, but it wet my appetite for some Goldeneye...
there's no actual shooting enemies here, right? It's a puzzler like portal.
Those graphics look like the conduit on Wii. The switch can do more than that.... Please out some effort in.
Looks pretty good.
