Re: Nintendo's Updated Guidelines For Tournaments & Content Creation Sparks Community Backlash

maulinks

Reading the comments here, glad to see that the amount of people that see that this "community backlash over IP protection" is actually bizarre seems to be growing

Nintendo has by far the most valuable IPs in gaming. Other publishers don't have the same control because having their IPs on these types of tournaments is free (and sometimes very welcome) marketing. These places are not Nintendo's target audience, but they do make a ton of noise.

Re: GameStop Fires Employee For Leaking Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Switch

@CharlieGirl ah yes, so basically when its versus big corporation, anything goes? Do my eyes deceive me or did the employee actually do something wrong?

Its crazy how we immediately go to "greedy corporation" generic argumentation.

And come on, let's not pretend that a gamestop job is not the type of job that is easily available anywhere.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Is July's Best-Selling Switch Game In NPD Results

It seems that for people who loved Xenoblade 2 and the connection it made with 1, Xeno 3 was a letdown.

But I think that as a stand alone game, it is way better than the previous ones and caters to a wider audience. All the characters have much more higher quality voice acting, way more characters are fleshed out apart from the main party, the combat is better and more varied, the graphics are a huge step-up (Xeno 1 and 2 had horrible pop-in textures all the time even though graphics were simpler and more "anime-like").

The quests are much better. Xenoblade 1 had a lot of problems with the quests, and don't even get me started on switching blades to use field skills on Xeno 2... . User interface on Xeno 2 was not good and the combater was not well explained, even though it is simpler than in 3. I also think the music is better, but it is more delicate when compared to previous ones.

The story is more mature and less sci-fi than in previous games, and I get that people who like the sci-fi aspect are disappointed. But the characters are better written and deeper vs previous ones. Also I think the story is more consistent on itself (Xeno 2 was constantly interrupted with cringy moments, and Xeno 1 was very dependent on Shulk seeing the future with the monado to drive the plot), and consistent with a single theme (won't say to not spoil anyone).

I kind of agree that the world "feels smaller"... but then I loaded up the previous games and realized that they felt bigger due to having huge amounts of empty space and pop-in of textures, and they were way uglier on average.

I think Xeno 3 is better in almost every way. Also has the best chapter considering all Xeno games by a huge distance (you know). But now they need to reboot the series.

Re: New Report Alleges Sexual Harassment And Discrimination At Nintendo Of America

@Not_Soos That is all true. But you have to take two things into consideration:
1. Kotaku does not have a good journalistic reputation already
2. They have a bias against Nintendo due to their existing relationship

That just reinforces the importance of evidence in this case. If this is true, again, it is concerning. As a japanese company, Nintendo can translate corporate culture that is concerning to all the regions it has offices (this was specially true in the 90s).

Re: Random: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Has Plenty Of Very Memeable Dialogue

@Finntendo XC2 takes a while to really click, for me it was the end of chapter 3. I did abandon it on chapter 2 and only revisited months later - after I got to chapter 4 I went forward until beating it

It has in my opinion the most satifying battle system considering XC1 and XC2, but it is horribly explained... so I totally understand you. I had to read online tutorials at some point to understand

On XC3 it seems they're overcorrecting that a bit with a lot of explanation about every tiny detail on the combat...

Re: Soapbox: 20 Years Later, Super Mario Sunshine Is Still The Best 3D Mario

100% agree. Played mario 64, sunshine and galaxy for the Mario All Stars collection recently.

Mario 64 didn't age very well, and galaxy was boringly easy and linear for me. Sunshine was the only reasonably challenging one, while still fun and beautiful. I get people love Galaxy from their childhoods... but it was still a sequence of 120 very linear and easy missions to me

Re: Here's How Much Nintendo's Directors Made This Year

@Arawn93 In publicly traded companies, C-level compensation (CEO, CTO, CIO, etc.) is not defined by the executives themselves, but by the board of directors, which is above all of them.

A lot of people here don't seem to understand very well how these public companies work
