@slider271 - I don’t have a specific prompt, but I keep my prompts narrow and focused, but detailed enough to get me what I need. Instead of something vague like “generate code for an open world action game,” you’d want to narrow it down to “generate me a method or class to handle how much character attributes increase when a character levels up.” Even that prompt could be too broad. But it can be a jumping off point, or you narrow it down further. Gen AI is also meant to be conversational so you can use it bounce ideas off of it, or use its response as a jumping off point.
(I don’t work in the game industry, just throwing out examples.)
@JohnnyMind - I’m a software developer and frequently use ChatGPT or Copilot to speed up my productivity. One thing I noticed with the introduction of Gen AI is that there is minimal training on how to use it effectively. The people who are complaining it makes their life harder are not using it right.
Writing good prompts is just as much of an art as writing actual code.
@fenlix - To be fair, with the original Switch a lot of publishers were focusing on PS5 and Series X/S. It’s easier to make a game that works on PS4 and PS5 than trying to downgrade it to work on the original Switch. I anticipate once the next gen consoles appear, we’ll start to see a similar trend where certain AAA titles will not come to Switch 2. I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing, there have been plenty of games to play on the OG Switch during the last five years of the Switch/PS5 overlap.
The one thing I find funny in these complaints in the price, is they are from people who played these games on the Wii. You guys are not the target audience for this release. 😆I get why the price is not appealing if you own copies already on the Wii. Anyway, I’m getting it because I didn’t get to play through much of Mario Galaxy 2, so I welcome an opportunity to start it again. Yeah, the price is higher than I’d like, but that’s showbiz baby.
@Zimon - Yeah, but you can still redownload previous purchases. To me, if a company removes the ability to purchase games digitally and they don’t have them up on any other platform, that just tells the world to go download the ROM.
@IOI - I don’t think MKW needs DLC yet, I think there is plenty to do so far. But I do hope we get some extra tracks eventually. Honestly, if I want to play more variety of tracks I can put MK8 in.
@TheExile285 I’m wondering if the lack of Switch 2 dev kits is the problem with the bad optimization. It’s almost like some of these ports are kind of guessing at the optimization.
I think the line up is fine for a console that released in June and hasn’t experienced its first holiday season yet. New consoles first year is generally pretty thin anyway.
@Friendly - Why go digital when at least with the keycard it can be traded in or sold again? You can’t do that with digital. I get the argument of why people don’t like the keycards because it doesn’t contain the full game, but at least it lets you sell it back.
I have no concerns with this release, Square was the only third party that did a great job at optimizing Switch ports, I expect similar results for Switch 2.
@DankPeezy Mario Kart 8 is not a normal representation of a MK game, it was fortunate enough to be blessed with a significant amount of DLC tracks over the past 10 years. Let’s at least wait to see if Nintendo does something similar with MKW, before calling it a filler title.
@B_Lindz - It’s August, the release dates for the holiday release window usually aren’t ironed out until the Sept direct. Also, they usually sneak some surprises in that direct.
@dskatter - But the thing is MOST games are requiring that day 1 update. I’m not saying it’s right, nor am I saying it’s wrong it’s just the reality now. I’m honestly at the point where if the game doesn’t have a full physical release I’ll just go digital.
@dskatter - Even if the game is on the disc, it’ll still require a day 1 update. Publishers are shipping the games in a borderline unfinished state, so they can continue wrapping up QA testing while the discs/carts are being made. It’s apparently like a 3 month lead time before launch day to produce physical media.
While I understand people’s complaints on the key cards, buying a PS5 game with the software on it doesn’t always resolve the problem that a download will be required.
@Spider-Kev - I skip so many YouTube videos because of people’s voices. It has nothing to do with accents, it just some people don’t have voices that are pleasing to hear.
@ICISAZEL - My stance on all this is, if it’s a console that is still being supported and the game can’t be purchased directly from the publisher physically or digitally, than you’re stealing. But if it’s a dead platform (Wii U, Wii, etc), I think it’s fine to download the ROMs and emulate.
I think Nintendo/Sony/Sega etc, are missing out on a goldmine by having some sort of service like iTunes where you just buy a rom for 99 cents and play it on an emulator on your device of choice.
@Slideaway1983 - If they can detect that one of those devices are used, maybe just disable to console while it’s in the device, and as soon as it’s removed it goes back to normal. That seems like a valid compromise.
@Real_Obsi - Agreed. I like how DF compares performance between platforms, it’s really interesting. But the damn nitpicking of extremely minor issues that nobody would notice unless you’re looking for those issues. If you’re focused on enjoying the game, you won’t notice some of the crap they point out.
@SillyG - From my understanding, Switch games require a 3-4 month lead time from production of the game cards to launch. So it’s very likely that the Switch 2 update wasn’t ready when the Switch 1 code went to manufacturing. I could understand being disappointed if this happened after a year of the Switch 2 being on the market. We don’t know why this update wasn’t included, the developer probably didn’t have a dev kit in time to test the Switch 2 update.
@Narrator1 - In my experience in the US, the Wii U was plentiful two weeks after launch. I knew when I went to Best Buy 2 weeks after launch and saw several on the shelf that the platform was in trouble.
The bad marketing and the world still coming out of the 2008 economic crisis really hurt the Wii U.
@beartown - I get why those people are upset, it’s a big change over MK8. Many people have been playing it since the Wii U over a decade ago. I can see MK8 being the franchises Melee. Everyone will play the new releases, but for competition people will fall back the MK8.
@axelhander - I recall in earlier games the blue shell did take out more racers as it was traveling to take out the person in 1st. I feel that the blue shell is more impactful in online play where there might be more racers grouped together at 1st place.
@Jack_Goetz - In my time with MKW, I get the shell at pretty random times. I haven’t noticed anything consistent like you have. The only consistency is that I see it when I’m in 1st, regardless of the lap.
@progx - Actually, the Wii U can play GameCube games natively because of the Wii backwards compatiblility. Obviously, this requires jailbreaking the Wii U and installing GameCube roms.
If Nintendo had added disc drives that could read GCN games, it would have played them with no issue. I have a jailbroken Wii U and imported roms of games I own and they play flawlessly.
@KBuckley27 - I agree. I think people already forgot about Bowser’s Fury, while it was fairly short, it’s obvious it was a bit of a testing ground for a potential open world 3D Mario game. There is no way Nintendo hasn’t been working on a new Mario game. I feel like the thing we’re going to be waiting awhile for this gen is a successor to TotK
@Cakefish - Splatoon Raiders? Pokémon? Potentially Metroid Prime 4? I think the holiday releases are pretty solid from the 1st party side, at this point we just need third party releases.
@KBuckley27 - The Switch had massive third party support. Any Nintendo console that had good hardware sales got third party support. The only time a third party won’t port a game to a Nintendo console is if the hardware can’t handle the port, or if the sales of the hardware is bad.
@CriticalHit - I saw on YouTube that Witcher 3 performs much better on Switch 2 without any updates. I tried to play it a few years ago after finishing Horizon Zero Dawn and I lost interest because of the poor performance compared to Horizon on PS5. I was still impressed they got it ported to Switch 1 though.
@blecch - This is nothing like the PS5 launch. The Switch 2 is getting quicker restocks than the PS5 did and scalper prices on FB marketplace are dropping by the day because Nintendo has been doing a great job keeping up with the early demand.
All console releases has inflated secondary prices at launch, this is the first time any company has been able to mitigate it.
@Anti-Matter - That’s bold of you to assume Square Enix won’t do something similar to the PS5 release. Even a Day 1 update is essentially the same thing because the game that is shipped hasn’t been fully tested
@EVIL-C 12+ months for games? More like 5-6 months. Their business model is fine, they give physical editions to games that would otherwise be digital.
@croz - If the next console is using similar online infrastructure, I think it’ll be much longer than 5 years. Even if it doesn’t, the Switch has a significant install base, I could see it going much longer.
To the folks who are saying Mario Kart has grown stale, you’re not wrong, we’ve been playing the same game for nearly a decade. 😆
I think the next evolution of the franchise is to start bringing in weapons and courses from other Nintendo properties, or even some special tracks with 3rd parties.
@Magic_Salmon_Pro - Sure, but as an American I can tell you when it comes to accents we don’t group a Scottish accent in with a “British accent.” If anything, many of us may confuse the Scottish and Irish accents just because of the lack of exposure.
Believe me I get the whole being defensive of your nation state that’s part of a bigger entity. We have 50 states that are very defensive about their own identities and try to tell the other 49 how to act. 😆
@Altaria_97 - I might be a bit biased, since Homage is based out of my city, but the shirts are worth the price. They fit comfortably and are well made. I have a few shirts from them and their my favorite t-shirts.
@nessisonett - So you’re saying as an American I should be able to differentiate between an accent of someone from the different cities and regions of the UK? If that’s the case, are you going to refer to my accent as American or will you refer to it as a Midwestern accent?
Nobody is trying to oppress people by saying “British accent” or “American accent.” We’re just not in tune with the local accents of other countries. Just as you’re not aware of the regional accents of the US and Canada.
For Nintendo consoles, I’ll go 100% physical as long as possible. But with the PS5, I’m starting to become more into buying digital, or downloading off PS Plus. If it’s a new game I really want and it’s a major title, like a Final Fantasy title, I’ll buy physical.
@Royalblues - you’re missing another big reason people buy physical, so they don’t have to worry about eShops taking the game off their servers or the online functionality of the game being disabled. Sure, having the game on the shelf is great as a collector, but this “middle ground” you speak of is not the main reason why people want physical.
@NintendoKnight - You mean Nintendo hasn’t capitalized on the current Switch model? By the time Switch 2 is released the current model will be at least 6 years old. The OLED is probably the closest we’ll get to a “pro” model.
@Clyde_Radcliffe - Because they are developing a game for multiple platforms at the same time and then trying to port it over to Switch, which as we know has weaker hardware. If this was designed from the ground up for Switch, it would be a different story.
@Truegamer79 - There is nothing wrong with wanting an almost 6 year old system that is beginning to show its age, to have an upgrade. I love the Switch, it’s probably my favorite Nintendo system, but in comparison to the current gen consoles it’s needing an upgrade.
@RubyCarbuncle - Yeah, I’ll eventually be buying the DLC. Just so I don’t have to worry about losing access in the future to NSO, or if I don’t have wifi and my switch wants to randomly validate my access to the course.
