@roy130390 - I’m still working my way through the demo, it’s growing on me and the story is picking up after a couple hours into it. I think I may just get the full version.
@EarthboundBenjy - Because Switch 2 owners will likely be wanting to play games for the Switch 2. They can filter the eshop to serve up Switch 2 games first and the non-AI slop Switch 1 games.
@The_Nintendo_Expat - Is your gimmick just to come to Nintendo websites to brag about Steam Deck and then act enlightened because you’re bringing an alternative viewpoint? 😆
@electrolite77 - So far I love the Everdrive 64. I don’t know if I have PAL versions installed on it or not, I think everything is North American and JP. I even have some 64DD roms on it. I currently use an old school tube tv to play on it, but I’m migrating to having my old consoles to a smaller 1080p tv as I just don’t play the games enough to even care about having a old school tv around anymore.😆
@electrolite77 - I’m actually at that point now myself. I don’t really buy retro games anymore at this point, both because I own a lot that I want and also the cost. So I have started doing what you mentioned, I have an optical disc emulator for my GCN and an Everdrive for my N64. I want to get a ODE for the Dreamcast next and then Everdrive’s for my remaining hardware.
@Joekun - I have spent the past 25 years of my life amassing a nice game collection, mainly because I never sold anything. I hardly ever play the retro stuff due to being a middle aged man with so many hobbies and commitments. 😆
The stuff sure is fun to look at though. Sometimes that’s enough.
@Joekun - We can’t do that, people will just post about how it’s a “cash grab” like the Virtual Boy accessory! /s
I really wish Nintendo would do a re-release of their own consoles, similarly to what Atari is doing. Just add the HDMI output and make it able to play the original cartridges.
@mlt If the service is retired, it means people stopped using the service on their Switch 1/2. That situation is going to be a very long time from now. If people want to play VB games on a Switch 30 years from now and the service is disabled, people will just download the roms and mod their console.
@thefly0810 - While that would be nice, none of the games are really that spectacular to play in 2D. It’s really just the nostalgia of The Who experience.
@Friendly - Nostalgia hits as you enter different phases of your life, it’s not just about childhood. I feel nostalgia for stuff that happened in my 30’s! 😆
Secondly, just because it may have already been in the code doesn’t mean it was already tested on Switch 2 hardware. There could have been other things that needed to be resolved.
While I find these comparison videos interesting, the differences here are barely noticeable if you’re actually focused on playing the game. With this and Pragmata, I may just get the Switch 2 versions so I can play on the go without needing a WiFi connection for my Portal.
@Lady_rosalina - Why would they release a Switch 2 Pro, if they didn’t do a Pro model last gen? People buying a Switch 2 are not getting it because it’s a graphics power house, but because of the Nintendo 1st and 2nd party exclusives and the ability to play those games on the go without worrying about having a WiFi connection for streaming. Switch 1 did pretty damn well into its final years, Switch 2 will do just as well.
Also, as someone else mentioned PS6 is likely delayed a couple more years and the graphical improvements on video games are not as noticeable as the transitions of previous generations.
@HugoGED - Who cares? Just buy digital and keep multiple SD cards if you’re concerned with the games being accessible decades from now. The cost of storage is going to go up for awhile because of AI demand, so expect either key cards, or expensive games if it’s a full physical release.
@Aneira - FF7 Remake/Rebirth is the perfect compromise between the modern action RPG battle mechanics and the old school menu driven system of the past. FF16, while a great game, leaned too far into the action rpg side. I hope FF17 uses the FF7R approach to the battle system, or goes with FF13’s or Expedition 33’s.
@RenanLK - Perhaps a Switch 2 Lite will give folks the color options they desire. Personally, I prefer the black look of Switch 2, it does project that feeling of it being a premium device. But I do understand people wanting some more color with their joycon options.
@IronMan30 - Also, a lot of people, especially in the US rushed to get a console over the summer because of uncertainty over Trump’s tariffs. So that took a big chunk out of potential Christmas sales.
@The_Nintendo_Expat - We just wrapped up a holiday season where we had Metroid Prime 4, Pokémon, Donkey Kong Bananza, Galaxy 1+2 and a few third party games to play. Even in 2017, going into 2018 I don’t recall there being too many awaited titles going into year two after the holiday season. I would anticipate a pretty big list of announcements in the next Direct.
@OmnitronVariant - Let’s also not forget Nintendo has sold a lot of consoles already. The economic issues are real, but a lot of people bought over the summer because of concerns that Trump’s tariffs would cause hardware prices to go higher.
@Lizuka - I suspect the major obstacle for Rebirth will be how much space it’ll take on the Switch 2 storage. I’m confident that Square will do a great job porting it over. Their Switch 1 ports were well optimized. Heck, Nier Automata looked amazing on Switch 1.
@slider271 - I don’t have a specific prompt, but I keep my prompts narrow and focused, but detailed enough to get me what I need. Instead of something vague like “generate code for an open world action game,” you’d want to narrow it down to “generate me a method or class to handle how much character attributes increase when a character levels up.” Even that prompt could be too broad. But it can be a jumping off point, or you narrow it down further. Gen AI is also meant to be conversational so you can use it bounce ideas off of it, or use its response as a jumping off point.
(I don’t work in the game industry, just throwing out examples.)
@JohnnyMind - I’m a software developer and frequently use ChatGPT or Copilot to speed up my productivity. One thing I noticed with the introduction of Gen AI is that there is minimal training on how to use it effectively. The people who are complaining it makes their life harder are not using it right.
Writing good prompts is just as much of an art as writing actual code.
@fenlix - To be fair, with the original Switch a lot of publishers were focusing on PS5 and Series X/S. It’s easier to make a game that works on PS4 and PS5 than trying to downgrade it to work on the original Switch. I anticipate once the next gen consoles appear, we’ll start to see a similar trend where certain AAA titles will not come to Switch 2. I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing, there have been plenty of games to play on the OG Switch during the last five years of the Switch/PS5 overlap.
The one thing I find funny in these complaints in the price, is they are from people who played these games on the Wii. You guys are not the target audience for this release. 😆I get why the price is not appealing if you own copies already on the Wii. Anyway, I’m getting it because I didn’t get to play through much of Mario Galaxy 2, so I welcome an opportunity to start it again. Yeah, the price is higher than I’d like, but that’s showbiz baby.
@Zimon - Yeah, but you can still redownload previous purchases. To me, if a company removes the ability to purchase games digitally and they don’t have them up on any other platform, that just tells the world to go download the ROM.
@IOI - I don’t think MKW needs DLC yet, I think there is plenty to do so far. But I do hope we get some extra tracks eventually. Honestly, if I want to play more variety of tracks I can put MK8 in.
@TheExile285 I’m wondering if the lack of Switch 2 dev kits is the problem with the bad optimization. It’s almost like some of these ports are kind of guessing at the optimization.
I think the line up is fine for a console that released in June and hasn’t experienced its first holiday season yet. New consoles first year is generally pretty thin anyway.
@Friendly - Why go digital when at least with the keycard it can be traded in or sold again? You can’t do that with digital. I get the argument of why people don’t like the keycards because it doesn’t contain the full game, but at least it lets you sell it back.
I have no concerns with this release, Square was the only third party that did a great job at optimizing Switch ports, I expect similar results for Switch 2.
@DankPeezy Mario Kart 8 is not a normal representation of a MK game, it was fortunate enough to be blessed with a significant amount of DLC tracks over the past 10 years. Let’s at least wait to see if Nintendo does something similar with MKW, before calling it a filler title.
@B_Lindz - It’s August, the release dates for the holiday release window usually aren’t ironed out until the Sept direct. Also, they usually sneak some surprises in that direct.
@dskatter - But the thing is MOST games are requiring that day 1 update. I’m not saying it’s right, nor am I saying it’s wrong it’s just the reality now. I’m honestly at the point where if the game doesn’t have a full physical release I’ll just go digital.
@dskatter - Even if the game is on the disc, it’ll still require a day 1 update. Publishers are shipping the games in a borderline unfinished state, so they can continue wrapping up QA testing while the discs/carts are being made. It’s apparently like a 3 month lead time before launch day to produce physical media.
While I understand people’s complaints on the key cards, buying a PS5 game with the software on it doesn’t always resolve the problem that a download will be required.
@Spider-Kev - I skip so many YouTube videos because of people’s voices. It has nothing to do with accents, it just some people don’t have voices that are pleasing to hear.
@ICISAZEL - My stance on all this is, if it’s a console that is still being supported and the game can’t be purchased directly from the publisher physically or digitally, than you’re stealing. But if it’s a dead platform (Wii U, Wii, etc), I think it’s fine to download the ROMs and emulate.
I think Nintendo/Sony/Sega etc, are missing out on a goldmine by having some sort of service like iTunes where you just buy a rom for 99 cents and play it on an emulator on your device of choice.
@Slideaway1983 - If they can detect that one of those devices are used, maybe just disable to console while it’s in the device, and as soon as it’s removed it goes back to normal. That seems like a valid compromise.
@Real_Obsi - Agreed. I like how DF compares performance between platforms, it’s really interesting. But the damn nitpicking of extremely minor issues that nobody would notice unless you’re looking for those issues. If you’re focused on enjoying the game, you won’t notice some of the crap they point out.
@SillyG - From my understanding, Switch games require a 3-4 month lead time from production of the game cards to launch. So it’s very likely that the Switch 2 update wasn’t ready when the Switch 1 code went to manufacturing. I could understand being disappointed if this happened after a year of the Switch 2 being on the market. There is no way Nintendo hasn’t been working on a new Mario game. I feel like the thing we’re going to be waiting awhile for this gen is a successor to TotK
@Cakefish - Splatoon Raiders? Pokémon? Potentially Metroid Prime 4? I think the holiday releases are pretty solid from the 1st party side, at this point we just need third party releases.
