@Lando_ I don’t really see the problem, to be honest. This game doesn’t require anywhere close to 60fps to play well. I only played the demo, so I can’t comment on the rest of the game, but I didn’t have any complaints whatsoever with it even with the lower fps...
I did own a Wii U, but it was underused and totally a waste of money. The only game I had from that list was 3D World, so what can I say... Bring them all! For all I care Nintendo could port all and every single game they released on the Wii U and those still be new games to me, so I hope they keep bringing in ports. Lots of ports. I know that making these ports has no effect whatsoever on the development of new games, so it’s a win-win situation for me and all those who never had a Wii U.
I'd rather have Soul Caliber than Tekken, to be honest... Anyway Switch isn't lacking in great fighting games so if they don't bother bringing Tekken to the console, I'll be fine. I'm not begging this time.
@Cobalt Or maybe people should ignore you instead.
Calling for boycott just because it doesn’t appeal to you is way too much. You should be ashamed of your own comments. Specially coming from a fellow developer (if you truly are a developer, that’s it).
I don’t even know what are you doing here since the ONLY thing you do is complain and talk trash.
What’s wrong with ports? To all of you who have a WiiU just ignore them. I wonder where that unhealthy need to complain comes from. Obviously, this game is not targeted at you. Move on.
@rjejr Not in Japan. Here, digital is not a thing yet. People are reluctant to go all digital since there is no guarantee you will be able to move your purchases on to the next console and also there’s no way to sell the game when you’re finished or just want to get rid of it. The pre owned market is huge in Japan. I don’t see Japan going digital anytime soon...
He has a point. So far, laws regarding dance moves are next to non existent because there wasn't a way to sell those moves. Now Epic is selling them on their game without asking permission and the law is perplexed and without knowing how to act. But in the end all this comes to Epic getting profit form something they didn't create, and that's a big no in my book.
I’m actually really looking forward to this game. My kids loved the other three games and both Buster games and follow the anime religiously every week. They’re quite excited for this.
@Bomberman64 I also agree that a better name could be Yo-kai Watch: Shadowside instead of a numbered name. After all this game is short of a reboot of the series, just like the TV show. But, anyway, I don’t see any way the title alone could drive players away.
The moment I read “roguelike” you lost me. I’m glad I waited to read a review instead of buying it while it was at a pre-order discount sale which was my original intention.
I still remember all these years ago, people in college linking the computers in the classroom to play the original DOOM. After that I lost contact with the games until last year with the Switch’s port. I haven’t finished it yet (the first big bad demon you find when going to Hell for the second time slaughters me every time), but the game is lots of fun.
This is just renewing the trademarks, nothing more. If they don't renew them they can lose them (as far as I know, I might be wrong though, since I'm no expert)
For all who were disappointed with Nintendo's announcements... (me included, kind of...), usually this show isn't the place to announce big things. Nintendo will do that during the January Direct. They always do that.
Having said that, I must say that I was disappointed with no Metroid news, but Mortal Kombat 11 coming for Switch is a very big deal, and the exclusivity of Marvel UA 3 is huuuuuuge (I think I'm still lacking several "u" in that word to make it even clearer) and with Nintendo publishing the game, I don't think this is a "timed exclusivity " but real, total, complete exclusivity.
right now if you check Twitter you will see a good chunk of Xbox and PS fans complaining about it. Obviously I'm not saying that I'm glad that the other consoles won't get the game, I'm just saying that a game like that being exclusive to Switch is a very big deal.
Some of the problems that plague this PS classic, like licensing hell and just how badly old 3D games have aged, is what probably will prevent a N64 classic from being released anytime soon.
Haters gonna hate, there’s no way around that. It could be the best Pokémon game ever and it wouldn’t matter.
I haven’t bought the game yet but plan on doing it because I’ve heard nothing but good things from the people I know who have bought it. And some of them are old fans who have been playing Pokémon games since the Game Boy so their opinion is much more worth than those haters who probably haven’t even tried the game and just bash it because it wasn’t made exactly how they wanted... Talk about entitlement... /facepalm/
To those haters out there: just remember that not everything needs to be done how you want and not everything will be for you and you alone.
Now, I’m exactly the kind of target that Nintendo was aiming at with these games. I’m an old gamer playing since the NES days but I never got into Pokémon before. But now I’m very interested and this will be my first Pokémon ever, and listening to my friends it looks that I’m going to have a wonderful time with it. I can’t wait!
Just a bunch of manboys having a tantrum because they didn’t get what they wanted. 99% of these reviews are from people who even haven’t played the game and just want to boicot it. I haven’t bought it yet but all the people I know who had are quite happy with it. In the end it all comes as the Internet being a toxic place full of falsehoods and people who have nothing better to do than hate on others.
If some people can’t afford something they just don’t get it. It’s as simple as that.
By the same argument you could also say that anyone who can’t afford an expensive car can steal one. I know that that example is way exaggerated but the concept is the same so...
I don’t care what anyone do with their game but when those actions start affecting me, then it bothers me to no end. And this affects us all. For starters this is one of the very reasons why Nintendo doesn’t allow cloud saves for this game.
And, as always, thank you Nintendo Life for increasing awareness so anyone with just a passing interest in hacking can now know exactly what to look for.
I think it’s great and a lot of fun with a good amount of laughs. What’s wrong with some erotic stuff in life? Not everything needs to be horror or violence.
For those who don’t like that, just ignore it. It couldn't be easier.
There are some people here (I’ll let you guess who they are) who will say that indies sell well on Switch only because there are no other games to play on it...
To me indies are a very important, fresh and appealing part of my gaming life. Indies have the spirit that big AAA publishers lost ages ago.
I’ve always been a Blizzard fan since the original Warcraft game, but my experience is limited to just the “Holy Trinity” of Diablo, Warcraft, Starcraft. Since a couple of years ago I play Hearthstone a couple of times each day, but any of their other games (including World of Warcraft) are literally unknown to me.
The little time I’ve got free this weekend is for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. I’ve had that game abandoned for months but I’ve started playing again recently and I’m enjoying it now much more than before.
I see the “dedicated servers” comments a lot and wonder if people actually know what they’re talking about...
Probably most of them don’t even know that most PS, Xbox and even PC games are actually PtP too.
There are actually things that people can complain about Switch Online but PtP isn’t one of them.
I’m fine with the service because it’s cheap and allows me to play online which is the solely reason I subscribed in the first place.
The NES games are a nice addition and they will probably expand it to other systems sooner or later, but I don’t want them to give us free games like PS Plus because that’d make the service much more expensive. I’ve subscribed to PS Plus for several years and, except for a couple of times, I didn’t cared about any of the games they offered for free because most of the time, by the time a game is made free, I’ve already bought it, and the rest of the time they’re games that I just don’t even bother to try. So, no, I don’t want to pay three of four times what I’m paying now to get games I already have or don’t care about.
I’m not saying that Nintendo shouldn’t improve the service, because they should and there’s a lot that can be improved, but we’re getting a very competitive product for the price we’re paying.
I couldn’t disagree more with this review. This is one of the fighting games, maybe even THE fighting game, I’m enjoying the most this year. I love pretty much everything about this game. The battles are fast and furious. The reviewer is of the opinion that an approachable and easy to learn fighting game is a bad thing. Well, to me it is not. Fighting games are among my favorite games but sometimes the learning curve is just so steep that takes away all the enjoyment from the game. This game doesn’t have that problem. It’s not a technical fighter like BlazBlue but that’s actually a very good thing. This game is a solid 8 in my opinion.
Honestly, this is not a game made for the West... It relies too much on Japanese folklore and most westerners will now nothing about the monsters encountered.
I've been very interested in this game since the start, and even without stellar reviews, I still like everything I've seen of this game.
This was a very nice and unexpected surprise.
Although seeing that even the current Xbox and PS4 versions of the game are not available in Japan (or at least I can't find them anywhere), I don't expect to see this coming here either... Probably just another game that will never make it to this island.
@jhewitt3476 Well, they got what they wanted, which is to make people that wouldn't care otherwise be aware of this phone and all gaming outlets playing to their tune writing articles about it. So, yes, it was indeed a very clever and brilliant PR strategy, even if I personally can't agree with it.
@jhewitt3476 You’ve got everything I said backwards.
I never said or even implied that the phone is good.
I don’t even think is good for gaming no matter how beefy the specs might be.
What I said is that the PR move of comparing it to the Switch was a brilliant move because it gave them coverage that they would not have gotten otherwise.
Please, read again my post.
Huawei got exactly what it wanted when it compared its phone with the Switch: free press coverage from outlets that wouldn’t care to do it otherwise.
Don’t you all get it? Would have Nintendo Life or IGN or most of the other sites writing about this took notice if the comparison with Switch hadn’t been made? The answer is a rotund “no”.
This was a brilliant strategy from Huawei’s PR department and it worked wonderfully.
This phone can’t compete with the Switch because it’s not in the same market, it’s comparing apples to oranges, and Huawei knew about it, but by doing that they put their phone in the point of view of people that wouldn’t have think twice about it otherwise. It was a brilliant PR move.
What actually amazes me is that not a single site seems to acknowledge this and all are doing exactly what Huawei wanted giving them press coverage that it wouldn’t get otherwise.
I played the demo and was truly amazed at how good it ran.
If the price were more reasonable I might be able to consider buying it, since there is no way this game will ever come to Switch as a normal port. But with totally crazy price that they’re asking I just can’t get myself to pay for it. Ubisoft is asking for this version MORE than the price of the physical version on PS4 or Xbox and you don’t even get to keep the game since it’s just a rental.
So in this game’s case, the problem is not the performance, which is nearly perfect, but the outrageous pricing model.
It’s going to take at least 6 months more before this game gets released in Japan (just like what happened with Mario + Rabbids), so I’ll have plenty of time to read reviews and decide if I’ll get it. Although I’m liking everything I’ve seen so far so... just deciding about physical or digital.
@Cobalt I guess I'm not as demanding as you. I like what I see, and don't need more than that. As long as the game (any game) plays well enough I don't care how it looks (although this one looks good enough to me). To each their own though.
@SwitchForce Who said they are regular SD cards? You should try to comprehend what you read a little bit more before telling people to use their brains.
@Cobalt The game does look great. Awesome even, I would say.
What does “great” mean to you? “Realistic” graphics are just that, realistic. Those kind of graphics are cool for some games and ridiculous for others.
The art style of this game, faithfully recreating the anime style is perfect.
@sword_9mm I don’t think that “giving the carts away” can qualify as a logical or good decision... They could try and make them as cheap as possible but, providing them for free? From a business point of view that’s quite ridiculous to be honest.
So, the writer is basically saying that Nintendo should give him what he wants in the manner he wants, or he will just steal it because he has the right to have everything he wants whenever he wants it. OK.
Although I agree with some things that the article says, I find most of the rest unrealistic, totally disconnected from the real business world and downright self entitled.
The entitlement in this article is astonishing. Nintendo doesn’t own you anything. You might agree or not, but they can do whatever they want with their property. You accept it or not, but that doesn’t give you any right to steal.
The “game history preservation” is only a very poor excuse for theft. Those games are preserved, you just want them in your possession.
I really think that Nintendo could and perhaps should do a better work in making available its catalog of classic games but just because I want something I can’t get in the way I want doesn’t mean that I can go an get it illegally.
It looks like we live in the age of self entitlement. We should own everything we want, shouldn’t we?
@Ryan_Again I understand you as well, and, if it were more reasonably priced, I think I could see myself getting into it, but at its current price is impossible. From my point of view, it is way too much for a rental.
@Ryan_Again The game runs perfectly, there’s no denying that.
I also live in Japan and only own a Switch and I have tried the gameplay and it runs almost flawlessly but I have some issues with it:
For starters, is the fact that you can’t play on the go, which totally defeats the Switch’s main appeal. Something that a proper port could avoid.
And then, and this is the deal breaker, is the pricing. Are you, honestly, fine with paying full price for a rental? Even if it’s two years, you’ll still own nothing after that time while paying the same as the other consoles, which get to actually own the game. That’s something I just can’t wrap my head around so, even if I would love to play this, I won’t do it with this price.
I just tried the game. It lets you play for 15 or 20 minutes as many times a you want.
I must say that I'm impressed. Except for a few hiccups here and there it ran quite decently. I didn't notice any lag whatsoever.
The game looks stunning but just, only just, a little blurry.
I was also surprised to find that it is even more expensive than I thought. It's just over 9000 yen, which little more than 79USD. For me that's waaaaay too much just for a rental.

I like what I see, and don't need more than that. As long as the game (any game) plays well enough I don't care how it looks (although this one looks good enough to me).
To each their own though.
Re: Video: See Yo-Kai Watch 4 Running On Switch With This 10-Minute Gameplay Video And Trailer
@Cobalt Yes, because obviously your opinion is the only one that matters.
Whatever man, if that keeps you happy...
Re: Starlink: Battle For Atlas Physical Release Will Require A 6GB Day One Update
@SwitchForce Who said they are regular SD cards?
You should try to comprehend what you read a little bit more before telling people to use their brains.
Re: Video: See Yo-Kai Watch 4 Running On Switch With This 10-Minute Gameplay Video And Trailer
@Cobalt The game does look great. Awesome even, I would say.
What does “great” mean to you? “Realistic” graphics are just that, realistic. Those kind of graphics are cool for some games and ridiculous for others.
The art style of this game, faithfully recreating the anime style is perfect.
It’s your entitlement that makes me speechless.
Re: Starlink: Battle For Atlas Physical Release Will Require A 6GB Day One Update
@sword_9mm I don’t think that “giving the carts away” can qualify as a logical or good decision...
They could try and make them as cheap as possible but, providing them for free? From a business point of view that’s quite ridiculous to be honest.
Re: Starlink: Battle For Atlas Physical Release Will Require A 6GB Day One Update
In not happy about it.
The game could fit perfectly in a 16GB cart but Ubisoft is so cheap that they decided to use 8GB carts.
I know Nintendo can’t do anything about it, but I wish it could force publishers in to use proper sized carts.
Re: Soapbox: Nintendo's Maddening Stance On Retro Gaming Is Driving Me To Piracy
Re: Assassin's Creed Odyssey Cloud Version Screens Released, Switch File Size Also Revealed
@Ryan_Again I understand you as well, and, if it were more reasonably priced, I think I could see myself getting into it, but at its current price is impossible.
From my point of view, it is way too much for a rental.
Re: Assassin's Creed Odyssey Cloud Version Screens Released, Switch File Size Also Revealed
Re: Assassin's Creed Odyssey Cloud Version Screens Released, Switch File Size Also Revealed
Re: Assassin's Creed Odyssey Cloud Version Screens Released, Switch File Size Also Revealed
@NintyNate I don’t like cloud gaming either, but as long as the connection is good the game runs perfectly.
Re: Assassin's Creed Odyssey Cloud Version Screens Released, Switch File Size Also Revealed
@Octane @Shadowkiller97 As far as I know it is full priced. The same price as the physical version on PS4 or Xbox.
The difference is that PS4 and Xbox buyers get to own the game forever, Switch owners only rent it for two years.
