Re: Mario & Luigi Developer AlphaDream Recruiting Graphic Designers For Switch And Smartphone Projects

maruse

@The_Pixel_King Not being an English native means that sometimes what we write might not come as we intended...

I obviously misinterpreted @Cobalt tone, and I'm truly sorry for that, but I'm glad everything ended up being a misunderstanding between us.

I really love meaningful, constructive discussions and I accept and respect every one's opinions. We are all different and, obviously, we agree and disagree in multitude ways.

Anyway, it ended up being an interesting conversation.

It's midnight in Japan, and I get up at 6 a.m. so I'm leaving it here and going to bed.

In Europe and America it's still Sunday, so enjoy your day!

Re: Mario & Luigi Developer AlphaDream Recruiting Graphic Designers For Switch And Smartphone Projects

@Cobalt I’m perfectly aware that the GPU in the Switch is underclocked.

Do you have some kind of problem or something? Is there a reason for that aggressive way of writing I’m unaware of? You seem to be one of those guys who think that they hold the Universal Truth and their opinion is the only one worth having.

Whatever, I’m done playing cat and mouse for no reason. Enjoy your day.

Re: Mario & Luigi Developer AlphaDream Recruiting Graphic Designers For Switch And Smartphone Projects

maruse

@Cobalt I’m not trying to make you change your opinion, I just gave you mine, but I don’t talk like a PR I just see things for what they are not for what I want them to be.

But it’s OK, to each their own. There are only a couple of things I can’t leave like that.

First you say that the Tegra wasn’t the best (or at least a high class Mobile GPU) at the time the Switch was being developed. Then, tell me, what was better? And don’t tell me the Tegra 2 because that wasn’t a GPU meant for consumers, it was made for AI in airplanes and automobiles. The Switch GPU was the best fit for the machine.

You say that the Joy-Cons are very cheap to make, do you have any insider info that we haven’t? Because you seem to know better than anyone else.

And then, you want Nintendo to include a 128GB memory card for free? That’d be awesome, right? But you can’t be serious. You know little about business if you are.

Re: Mario & Luigi Developer AlphaDream Recruiting Graphic Designers For Switch And Smartphone Projects

@Cobalt Just giving my humble take on your points:

1. As much as you might not like them, ports are good both from a business point of view and for the new gamers. You might own a Wii U and all those games, but there are literally millions of people who didn't and that is a potential market that no company in its right mind would ignore. The more ports the better, both for Nintendo and for all those who skipped the Wii U.

2. It is low spec if you compare it with home consoles, but it has the currently best GPU that a consumer oriented mobile device could have. You might find the Joy-Cons expensive but there is no denying that those controllers pack a lot of technology inside them. That you think they are cheap, doesn't mean they are actually cheap.
I grant you that the dock is way to expensive for what it does though.

3. I agree with you here, mobile games are an attempt to grab a piece of the huge mobile market. As players that prefer gaming on a dedicated console we might not agree, but yet again, it makes all the sense in the world from a business point of view. And Nintendo is a business first and foremost, they're here to make money not to please us.

4. The online service was always free because it has never been an important part of their business model. Things are different now and increasing service and infrastructure cost more money that what they had before. Paying for a service is normal, getting it for free is the exception.

5. 32GBs is small but it strikes a balance between usable storage and price. Putting 128GB (or even just 64GB) would have make the price of the Switch skyrocket. I don't know if you are aware of the shortage problem with NAND flash memory that the whole tech world has been through. NAND flash is crazy expensive and big companies like Apple buy in bulk leaving smaller companies to fight for the remains. I say it again at it current price nobody can expect big storage on the Switch.

6. They are making full games. DLC is an EXTRA, you don't need, nobody is forcing you to buy it.
Are you telling me, that Splatoon 2 is not complete game because they didn't give you the Octo expansion for free, or the same with Breath of the Wild?
Saying that a game is not complete because because it has DLC is utter nonsense.

Just my two cents. Different people, different opinions.

For people concerned about the steep learning curve of most fighting games (I fee you! As much as I love them I suck at them), try BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle.

It's much more casual gamer friendly without taking away all it depth for those who can.

Great game but I get TOTALLY destroyed anytime I try to play online.

Re: Hands On: Taking The Path Less Traveled In Octopath Traveler

maruse

I love the art style, it’s extremely beautiful and original, but it seems that a lot of people don’t.

Amazon Japan has a good number of 1-star reviews (that aren’t even based on the full game!) that really bash the game because it has “horribly ugly PS1 graphics”.

I couldn’t disagree more with them.

There are also a lot of people complaining that the characters don’t interact with each other in the least, they travel together but are basically invisible to each other. I don’t know what to think about that, I need to play it by myself.

I have it preordered so I’ll be playing soon enough and judging by myself.

Re: Hackers Have Now Found A Way To Emulate Nintendo 64 Games On Switch

maruse

@GameOtaku Definitely, but at least you can keep playing them as long as you keep the original hardware... Something that is changing now since the practice of putting only part of the game on the cart is becoming widespread, so sooner rather than later buying physical games will be even more pointless than buying digital

Re: Hackers Have Now Found A Way To Emulate Nintendo 64 Games On Switch

maruse

@GameOtaku Let me point just one thing there: you don't own 60 VC games on your 3DS. You think you do, but you don't. You are just being licensed to use them.

You could say you can backup them to a card or a PC, and you can, but that is just extending the leasing period, it's not a permanent solution. You don't own them and never will. Denying it is lying to yourself.

I don't say it's OK. It definitely sucks... but it is what it is. Digital content don't give ownership, just a temporary license.

Re: Poll: Is Your Nintendo Switch Cracking Under The Pressure?

maruse

Between my two kids and I, we use our Switch extensively every single day. It gets like 4 or 5 hours of play almost each day but, so far, there are no cracks or scratches or warping that I can appreciate.

One of my kids even dropped it once to the floor but fortunately it came unscathed.

My problem is with the Joy-Cons, that sometimes keep registering input on the analog stick even when it's not being touched. I've had Nintendo replace the left Joy-Con twice but the problem always returns, although this time it seems to be intermittent instead of constant like it was before.

Re: GameStop Reveals That Switch Sales Doubled In The Week After E3

maruse

@GKO900 For me the Switch is the whole experience. It is to be able to play on the TV or on the go, and it is also to be able to share a controller with someone instantly, and it is the motion based experience that the Joy-Cons offer...

If you think that the Switch only feature is its hybrid nature, I think you are missing the other half of what makes a Switch what it is.

Anyway, for each person it will be different I guess.

@TulipWaltz I finally got to read that article and I don't believe the screenshot is from the remake. I would post a screenshot of that page, but I don't know if it is possible to attach images to a comment.

Anyway, no screenshots from the remake.

Edited: Wait a moment! Looking closely and comparing the screenshot with a YouTube video I found, I actually retract my comment. It is a screenshot of the remake. It has more detail than the SuperNES version.

Re: Nintendo's Share Price Falls Yet Again With A Lack Of Game Announcements Possibly To Blame

maruse

@Cobalt No, what I’m saying is that the Switch already has plenty of system sellers for newcomers. You said it needs games that sell systems, didn’t you? It already has that a plenty. Does that mean that it doesn’t need more? Not in the least, and those new games are coming, two of them this year. It would be nice to have a must have first party game every single month... but that’s never going to happen because it’s not feasible.
Unfortunately, in a world where people only care about instant gratification, patience is a virtue that most people lack.

Re: Nintendo's Share Price Falls Yet Again With A Lack Of Game Announcements Possibly To Blame

maruse

@Cobalt I agree that the E3 direct was lackluster, and Nintendo needs to show some more new games, but the Switch already has plenty of games that sell systems.

You already have a Switch so might want more, but people new to Switch still have Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 DX, Splatoon 2... All those games sell systems and are totally new to those who haven’t buy a Switch yet.

Patience is not a virtue of shareholders or gamers. They all want instant gratification. Want it all, want it now! And then start whining when they get rushed, incomplete games because of that.

Re: Nintendo Still Confident It Can Ship 20 Million Switch Consoles This Financial Year

maruse

@pika677 you underestimate the attraction of Pokemon, specially in Japan. Remake or not, casual gamer focused game or not, it will sell a ton in Japan. Got no clue about those games will perform outside Japan though.

Also, at this pace, by (fiscal) year’s end the Switch will probably overtake PS4 in Japan with more units sold in two years than PlayStation in five!

I think is waaaaay to early to call doom on Nintendo.

Re: Video: Here's How Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy On Switch Compares To Other Versions

maruse

I believe that this game not looking better than it does on Switch is more because of the poor optimization work of the devs or just the lack of enough time before the release date, than the hardware itself.

It still looks good enough though and no one is going to play it side by side with a PS4 or Xbox so it doesn’t matter much in the end... but still, with a little more effort and time, I’m sure the devs could’ve get a better looking game.

Re: Fortnite Player Takes All-Time Kill Record By Savagely Taking Out Rocket Launch Viewers

maruse

A jerk move. A player without any honor whatsoever. It’s just a stupid game I get it, but anyway taking advantage of that situation when everyone was trying to see the event, don’t deserve any kind of praise, just despise. How many kills would he or she have gotten in a normal game with everyone trying to kill each other?

This just add to the mounting list of things I dislike about this kind of multiplayer games, where just one person can ruin the fun of everyone.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Gives Panic Button's Wolfenstein II Port The Tick Of Approval

maruse

It looks good to me.

Just like with DOOM, plenty of people were saying that it wasn’t worth playing it on Switch... Well, I bought the game, played it and I can say that it was a blast. Blurry? Yes, that didn’t stop me from enjoying the game while running and shooting like crazy.

I’m pretty confident it’ll be same with Wolfenstein.

For those who own other consoles or a gaming PC, just ignore this game because it wasn’t made for you. Let the people who actually want the game enjoy it, would you? That it isn’t worth for you doesn’t mean it isn’t worth for me.

Re: Ubisoft CEO Believes Future Of Games Industry Is Streaming, With Potential To Reach 5 Billion Players In Ten Years

maruse

It is happening sooner or later whether we like it or not (and I don't like it). It is already happening now, just look at music or video.

The age when you don't own anything and must rent/license everything is coming at an alarming pace. Even now, with digital games you don't own them, you are just renting them for as long as the servers are up.

It sucks, but the days of physical media are reaching their end.

Re: Video: Here's How Wolfenstein II On Switch Compares To Last Year's Home Console Version

maruse

@sixrings Did you read what I wrote at #50? Because what I said about the game's art style affecting fps also applies to resolution.

1080p 60fps games can be done on the Switch but is dependent on the art style of the game. Cell-shade and cartoony games, definitely, but realistic looking games not so much. Then again just like with fps, 720p looks worse than 1080p but not "that" worse.

You (anyone) can't expect a 398g console running on batteries and consuming 8.9W to perform in the exact same way as a 2.1Kg console plugged to a constant power supply and consuming up to 165W...

Like I said in the comment before: unrealistic demands and expectations.

Re: Video: Here's How Wolfenstein II On Switch Compares To Last Year's Home Console Version

maruse

@gatorboi352 you are comparing oranges to apples to be honest.

Nintendo games have a totally different art style that’s easier on the GPU/CPU so targeting 60fps is reasonable and even expected.
A “realistic” looking game graphics will tax the GPU much more heavily, making reaching 60fps much more difficult or down right impossible.

There’s no irony to be seen anywhere.

What I find incredible are some people’s totally unrealistic demands.

Besides, a 30fps game can be as good and enjoyable as a 60fps. Most people who don’t look at the numbers won’t even find the difference, not because the eye can’t detect it but because the actual gameplay experience is not that extreme. Now if you go below 30fps, especially below 24fps, then the movement becomes much more jarring. For each person will be different, obviously, but if you can’t enjoy a game at 30fps then you’re locked out of MOST games even on PS4...

Just my two cents...

Re: Nintendo, Creatures And Game Freak Apply For Mysterious New Pokémon Trademarks

@Jaxad0127 I don’t think so... the sound is very clearly an R.
In songs (mostly J-pop) you’ll hear a lot of Rs pronounced like Ls, but that’s just because it sounds “cool” because it’s not the way they pronounce it normally.
I’ve been living in Japan for the last 14 years and in normal conversation you won’t hear Ls at all, unless they are trying to sound different on purpose.
