Re: Video: Watch The Nintendo Indie Highlights Presentation January 2019

maruse

Inmost was the only thing that caught my eye. Everything else was boring.

Steamworld Quest... I don’t know... I’m not sure I liked what I saw but, so far, all Steamworld games have been great so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt until I can see more. It might turn out to be as awesome as Steamworld Heist.

In the end it was a very forgettable highlights video. Nothing interesting there. (In my opinion, of course)

Re: Nintendo Hosting New Indie Highlights Video Presentation Tomorrow

maruse

So, a Europe thing. Better than nothing I guess?
I love indies so I’m not complaining, but being a Europe showcase, that means that I won’t be seeing most of those games for months and months (if ever) since most indies have little love for Japan. I guess localization can be a pain in the a$$ for most small developers.

Re: Level-5 Shares New Yo-Kai Watch 4 Trailer

maruse

My kids love Yokai-Watch and had all the 3DS games, but this is the first time I’m actually looking forward to one of the games myself. It looks great and the change in combat mechanics has picked my interest.

For those doubting the game will be released this year in the West, I understand you but, at least, you can be sure this game will make it to the West even if it’s later.

I’m still very salty because some games I really want won’t be coming to Japan at all. Vampyr, Aragami and, specially, Mortal Kombat 11 are games I can’t wait to play but will never make it to Japan.
I’m specially angry with Warner for not bringing Mortal Kombat here for the third (maybe mire?) time in a row.

Re: Kombat Kast For Mortal Kombat 11 Takes Place On 30th January

maruse

@tourjeff Well, I said the DLC is missing because the Premium Edition, which has the Kombat Pack included, is not available for Switch.
That doesn't mean anything, obviously, but it is just a little bit concerning since, so far, we don't know actually anything about the Switch version.

Re: Kombat Kast For Mortal Kombat 11 Takes Place On 30th January

maruse

I don’t care much about the collector’s edition but the apparent lack of DLC is very concerning.

They have given absolutely no information about the Switch version of the game.

Also it doesn’t seem to come out at the same time everywhere. There’s no confirmation so far that the game will be released in Japan. This bothers me to no end.

Re: Video: Get Over Here And Watch More Footage Of Mortal Kombat 11

maruse

@Frenean I’m very biased when MK is concerned because I’ve been a fan since the SuperNES days. I never cared much for the gore but I’ve always loved its lore and characters.
Fighting games are probably my favorite but I’m very bad at them lol, that’s why I never play online. The Blazblue games are probably more technical but, as I said, I’m not a technical player and I like the story and characters in MK way more.
I’m extremely excited because MK 11 coming to Switch. I just hope the performance is up to par.

Re: Video: Get Over Here And Watch More Footage Of Mortal Kombat 11

maruse

@Frenean For some people might be just the gore, for others is that MK has the best (by a thousand miles) story mode of any fighting game ever and because, gameplay wise, is one of the best fighting games in the market.
Also comparing the SuperNES MK games with the current ones doesn’t make much sense to be honest...
But, obviously, this is not a game for everyone.
Personally I find it to be better than Smash, but that’s just me.

Re: Nintendo Issues Official Statement Regarding The Allegations Made Against Nintendo Russia CEO Yasha Haddaji

maruse

People really do like their pitchforks, don’t they?
Innocent until proven guilty? Who cares! Guilty because I say so!

We don’t know anything except for a video on the Internet without any context. Sure, he has rage fits that don’t belong on a person in his position and he got a very severe punishment because of that (and yes, from a business point of view, it was a severe punishment).

We know nothing, only that the investigation didn’t prove anything. Who are we to think that he should be fired when we don’t have any prove at all?

Anyone can and will make false accusations for any number of reasons and the mob do likes some controversy to spice their days.

Let me put that into a different light. Has anyone think that maybe this was just a set up to make him lose his job? He got angry and did something inexcusable but then the employees got angry and decided to accuse him of all sort of things just as revenge.
How is the situation above any less believable than the accusations directed at him?

I’m not saying he was innocent, of course, I’m saying that if the investigation didn’t prove anything then I (we) have no reason to believe otherwise because we know literally nothing.

But anyway, logic is not a part of the Internet so...

Re: Feature: 10 Ways The Nintendo Switch Can Have Its Best Year Yet

maruse

Points 3 and 8 are at odds with each other.
Releasing a Switch Lite without detachable Joy-Cons would mean that the Switch can’t “switch” anymore, which is precisely what has make it so wildly popular.

Also, several games would become unplayable, Mario Party being the most obvious. Just imagine a Switch system that can’t play Switch games. That would confuse and annoy users to no end and affect sales negatively.

So, I don’t see a Switch lite unless, at the very least, it comes with detachable Joy-Cons.

A Switch Pro with slightly better specs and a generous price cut to the original Switch makes more sense in my opinion. But that spec bump can’t be so great that it makes games unplayable on the original Switch, since that would split the user base with all the problems that could create.

In the end it’s anyone’s guess what are Nintendo’s plans to keep the Switch fresh and relevant after Sony and Microsoft announce their new systems. It’ll be very interesting to see!

Re: Some Fans Are Calling For A Boycott Of Pokémon After Creatures Inc Shares Controversial Tweet

maruse

@aiden0309 I really understand your feelings, I really do, but people must also understand that this shrine is not about WWII and all the evil that Japan did then. There are way more honorable dead in that shrine too that must and should not be forgotten.
Also, remember that Japan before and the Japan of today are very different countries. Japan as a whole (not withstanding the few ultra nationalist idiots) are actually ashamed and regret what happened. How long are people going to continue with this?m? We shouldn’t forget, obviously, but it’s time to move on.
But after all I really think that they shouldn’t have posted that to the official account. And I’m also sure there wasn’t any hidden reasons there either.
Like I said, we all should move on, live and let live.

Re: Talking Point: What's Next For Nintendo After Switch?

maruse

I like the Switch as it is and would like for Nintendo to keep it alive and strong for as long as possible.

Just add some QOL improvements and some modest power bump (nothing that could split the user base but could make games run better for those who have the newest hardware) and I’ll be fine for years to come.

I’m not as obsessed with graphics as most of the PS and Xbox crowd seems to be (gameplay over graphics any day) so 4K and all that mumbo-jumbo doesn’t mean much in my view. Keep making great games and everything will be just fine.

Re: Future Business Shift Could See Nintendo Move Away From Home Console Development

maruse

@Oni_Dino Thank you for taking time and clarify everything.

As of late Nintendo Life is becoming a site not worth visiting anymore. They seem to care more about clicks and comments (it looks like it doesn’t matter if you’re even just a troll or a hater as long as you comment) than about proper journalism.

I’ve been a Nintendo Everything reader for years and this will only make me visit your site more and this site less.

Re: Future Business Shift Could See Nintendo Move Away From Home Console Development

maruse

I think people might be taking the wrong conclusions here.

I wish I could have access to the original Japanese article (you need to be subscribed to Nikkei to read it) because Japanese is a very difficult language to properly translate with Japanese people (specially businessmen) never speaking in a direct way. There’s always something lost in translation.

I don’t think Furukawa is saying that Nintendo will eventually move away from making hardware but instead he is saying that Nintendo is not fixed on making consoles in the way other companies do. They’re more flexible and will try to move in the same direction gaming people are moving. It’s not a matter of black or white I think.

Re: It Is Now Illegal To Sell Unauthorised Game Keys In Japan, Save File Editors Also Banned

maruse

@Yorumi The real problem here is not the save files but the selling of serial keys, and that’s what concerns me.
I don’t care about people messing with their saves unless it ends up affecting other players (which in most cases, that’s exactly what happens).
And the only thing you own is a license to play the game as it is. You don’t own the game itself and its underlying code.

Re: It Is Now Illegal To Sell Unauthorised Game Keys In Japan, Save File Editors Also Banned

maruse

I never understood or even tolerated cheaters and pirates so, for me, it was about time it was made illegal (not that it will prevent anything anyway though).

This is not about overlords or “daddy” governments like some comments up there say, it’s about preventing unfair use (online games cheaters) and stop people from profiting from products they don’t own (serial key sellers). It’s a perfectly logical and welcome rule.

I make my living selling products I make so I’m very biased because I understand first hand what is like people stealing your hard work. Obviously, kids who’ve got no idea what all this is really about and only care about themselves will find that these laws come from “overlords”.

Re: Feature: Things We Wish Nintendo Would Do In 2019

maruse

My only problem with the Switch is the “drifting” problem with Joy-Con’s analog sticks.

I’ve already sent them for repairs three times and the issue always keeps coming back. And now that they’re out of warranty it costs me money every time because of a design flaw on Nintendo’s part.

That’s the only thing that drives me mad about the Switch. Everything else can just stay as it is. I just want more original games (and ports of games I didn’t play before: still waiting for Metroid Prime Trilogy)

Re: Feature: Nintendo's 2018: A Remarkable Year In Review

maruse

With the year over I must say that 2018 was on par or even better than 2017. There are plenty of games released during 2018 that I haven’t had the chance to play (read buy) yet.
I have no complaints about 2018 and I’m quite excited for what’s coming (or supposedly coming) in 2019.

Re: Feature: Nintendo's 2018: A Remarkable Year In Review

maruse

The Switch is the best console that Nintendo has ever made (to me, obviously).

It has given me the wish to play and the freedom that my other old consoles never could.

I love it so much because it doesn’t force me to play its way, but allows me to play my way.

With my old PS3 I had to fight for the TV with my wife and kids so I ended just giving up.

With my PSP and PS Vita I didn’t have that problem but the experience was always kind of watered down compared with the PS3.

The Switch gives me freedom and the best of both worlds. It’s the perfect system.

Re: Atlus Teases Persona 5 R, More Information To Be Revealed March 2019

maruse

I admit it was disappointing to see only the PS logo at the beginning of the teaser after watching the anime last night, but I’m not sure that alone means that a Switch version isn’t coming at all (just like Joker in Smash doesn’t confirm that it is coming either).

I think that releasing P5 on the Switch makes a lot of sense and I also think that Nintendo will want to announce it themselves, so I’ll keep my hopes in check until January’s Direct. If we don’t get anything then, then I’ll forget about P5 for the time being (and will reduce the appealing of getting Joker for Smash quite a lot too...)

Re: Switch Has Outsold The Original And Slim PlayStation 4 In Japan

maruse

@Zuljaras That comment is a tad out of place.
Calling people “piece of trash” because they can’t afford buying more than one console is a “piece of trash” kind of comment.

I won’t be called a fanboy just because I am not one. I like Nintendo as much as I like Sony. I’ve owned both companies’ consoles throughout the years and I’ve given praise where praise was deserved and being critical when it was necessary. Both companies make awesome games and both companies are arrogant and think they do everything better than the others.

A fanboy is someone who does nothing but to attack others no matter what just because of a difference in opinion and goes out of his way just for the sake of annoying others. Why would he otherwise go to a Nintendo fan site and ridicule their consoles? Or the other way around, it doesn’t matter.
No matter how you look at it, Cobalt is the King of Fanboys here and the one who is always purposely looking to upset everyone.

I only own one console each generation simply because I’m one of those pieces of trash who can’t afford more than one. Why should I be ashamed of that, and how does that make me a fanboy?

But anyway I don’t even know why I allow myself to get annoyed that much by Cobalt’s comments.

I’ll leave it here. There’s no point continuing this useless discussion. Next time he annoys me I’ll just use that handy “Ignore” button.

Re: Switch Has Outsold The Original And Slim PlayStation 4 In Japan

maruse

I'm quite happy for Nintendo, but I won't consider the Switch has outsold the PS4 until it has outsold both the normal PS4 and the Pro combined... which will happen soon enough.

Globally though, I find it will be much, much harder to close the gap and I don't really think it'll outsold the PS4 globally anytime soon, if ever.

Anyway, both system are performing beautifully, and that is good for all gamers... except to those bitter people out there who only get pleasure by mocking other people's enjoyment.

Re: Switch Has Outsold The Original And Slim PlayStation 4 In Japan

maruse

@Cobalt "In Japan the Switch is sold as a portable system that can be plugged in to a TV" ... Hahaha! Really? I guess you know a lot about Japan and how Nintendo operates here, don't you? After all, you seem to know more yourself than everyone here combined...
Let me tell you a little secret: you know nothing, specially where Japan is involved.
