Re: Limited Run Republishing Another Two Game Boy Titles, Pre-Orders Open This Friday

kkslider5552000

I understand that they probably couldn't so easily get more popular games this sort of treatment and that Gameboy games could be very limited but even still...these two games don't look like they've aged well. One of them looks slow and the other looks like not a fighting game that should exist post-Street Fighter 2.

If they're actual Gameboy cartridges though, that's really cool.

Re: Talking Point: Is "Cheesing" A Legitimate Strategy?

kkslider5552000

In terms of single player games, it doesn't actually mean anything. I mean, I prefer doing things the intended way in most single player games, but if it gets to the point I'm having less fun because of some annoying part of a game, I'll stop playing fair at some point.

Like last year, I replayed DKC2 and 100% all the normal levels for the first time (haven't ever beaten the secret levels...yet). Used the NSO save states and some playthroughs online to find the more annoying coins. Someday I'll replay it AGAIN most likely and try to re-find them by memory, but until then, I just wanna experience the secrets now. Because. SImilarly I cheated for beating the Yellow Devil in Megaman 1 (not the first time either!) However, I did eventually beat Yellow Devil legit so I'm fine with that.

I realize those aren't exactly the same things but they're the first ones that came to mind. But I did cheese the bosses in DBZ Legacy of Goku when I was a kid. Because that game was awful.

Re: Multiple Parties Reportedly Interested In Buying Square Enix

kkslider5552000

SE is already a giant corporation of two gigantic JRPG companies combined. We don't need them to be exclusive to anything.

I already hate that Microsoft bought two of the biggest western RPG companies back to back, we don't need this as well. I hope its all bs, especially since SE has been seemingly doing really well, despite the stupid, bad Avengers thing. Like their new game is a huge hit DESPITE massive issues anyway.

Re: Konami Is Bringing GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon To Switch In 2022

kkslider5552000

I'm so curious on what has gone on behind the gaming scenes of Konami in recent years.

Like who decides Metal Gear Survive and Contra: Rogue Corps are good enough to release as is, but then also decides to spend money to support a dev to make a game look this good that's based on some old Japanese only game they put out in the 80s? How does that happen, who makes those decisions?

Re: Dev Explains Why Nintendo Made Mario's Anniversary Games Limited-Time

kkslider5552000

I have a slightly different theory than some people. I feel Nintendo genuinely likes putting out limited time anniversary collections for the reasons they say...AND they're thrilled at the financial reasons too! People think its just the latter, which is not very Nintendo imo. This is the same thing with like how mainline Pokemon has two versions. It was done for a non-money related reason, but they sure are happy for the money related reason that came with it!

also I have a feeling this anonymous dev is just saying what they think they know and not what they have confirmed for themselves in any way. Just a hunch.

Re: Capcom Allegedly Forced Staff To Work On-Site, Ignoring Japan's COVID Rules

kkslider5552000

While I don't think this is automatically the disaster it sounds like it could be (as someone who has worked in a warehouse with good protocols with zero cases happening the entire time (admittedly a different-ish experience)), I've never trusted Capcom as a company after Ono's hospitalization ages ago, and I certainly am not trusting them here.

Also this didn't work since tons of Capcom things were leaked a little while ago anyway!

Re: Soapbox: I'm Tired Of Ports And Remakes - Where Are All Nintendo's New Ideas?

kkslider5552000

I almost never buy games I already own in any form, and I think more people should do that. Experiencing new things is good and experiencing the same things forever is bad.

Nintendo's usually at its best when its able to maintain old and new. Its ports and remakes are the right games at the right times for the right audience, its new games work within its franchises while genuinely innovating (not remaking Star Fox 64 again except with a new control scheme), and there's new IPs between all those releases.

Re: Nintendo Is "Replacing Its Multiplayer Server System" Dating Back To The Wii U And 3DS Era

kkslider5552000

My number one issue with NSO from Day 1 is that Nintendo was clearly failing to upgrade their actual online to justify adding a cost to it. People didn't buy NSO for the free games, they just wanted to play their Nintendo games online. I'll still argue forever that they could just sell the games as a 20 dollar a year service and keep the online gaming paywall out of the whole thing. As long as they keep adding games, its not a bad service on its own, and I'd still pay for it.

Regardless, thank god they're upgrading things. Even free, but especially paid, there was no excuse for some of these online issues.

Re: Poll: What's The Best 2D Mario Game?

kkslider5552000

A few of these are all time greats, but most of them are not as great as the series' reputation tbh.

Regardless, the two best 2d platformers as part of the Mario series in some way came out in 1995, Yoshi's Island and DKC2. And in terms of non 2d platformers starring Mario, I'd put at least 8 games above these.

Re: Hades, Ikenfell, And Immortals Fenyx Rising All Nominated For GLAAD Media Awards

kkslider5552000

The problem with this comment section is that y'all unintentionally imply other awards are worthwhile tbh. These mostly pointless awards are just more LGBT focused than say, the other mostly pointless game awards from December. They're all meaningless and a waste of your time at the end of the day.

I mean looks at avatar yet I don't care about this at all. But I'm also not butthurt lol.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Kirby Game?

kkslider5552000

Kirby's Adventure, but like all versions of it. The original is one of the first games I ever beat (either it or Ducktales was first I'm pretty sure), but the 3D version fixes the lag to be the best version of it, but Nightmare in Dreamland is the best version of it despite some things I personally don't like about it. So combined, best Kirby game lol.

Re: Star Wars Video Games Join Forces Under Lucasfilm Games

kkslider5552000

I can't be alone in thinking this is a terrible name. "Lucasfilm Games"? Lucasarts was fine, Lucasgames would also be fine. Why do you need Lucasfilm as part of the name for making things that are literally not films? This would be like if the MCU was called the MCCU the Marvel Comic Cinematic Universe.

Re: Nordisk Games Acquires 40% Of Metroid: Samus Returns Developer MercurySteam

kkslider5552000

I do still hope that rumored 2D Metroid is coming soon. Samus Returns was really good for what it was, but it felt limited by all the obligatory Metroid 2 stuff (and some other obligatory Metroid nostalgia). It'd be cool to see them giving the chance to make their own Metroid.

I dunno if that will happen, but it just feels like everyone involved would like that. Nintendo would like a 2d Metroid without having to make one themselves (if for no other reason than to keep the brand out there with Prime 4 taking forever), and Mercurysteam wants another well reviewed game. It would make sense.

Re: Review: DOOM Eternal - This 'Impossible' Port Is Nothing Short Of A Miracle

kkslider5552000

It's amusing people can't comprehend that a game can look better when playing it than just looking at screenshots. Did y'all miss the entire 3DS era? Literally every 3DS game I swear looked SO much worse in screenshots than playing it. This happened every single time. And the game does look way way better in the gameplay footage I've seen than these screenshots, by far, so I already believe this.

Though it also helps I almost never played the previous Doom in handheld mode admittedly. Just be a normal person and decide if you want to play a video game on X system or Y system.

Re: Nintendo Wants To Know Whether You Prefer 2D Or 3D Zelda Games

kkslider5552000

I love 2D Zelda more often than not. However, I do still prefer 3D Zelda. Both because I just find it more entertaining personally(on average anyway, I definitely like my favorite 2D Zelda more than my least favorite 3D Zelda), but also 3D Zelda is where all the boldest, newest, and most compelling ideas often come from. The only 2D Zeldas to feel THAT different are the DS and multiplayer ones, which aren't as good as LA/Oracle games/Minish Cap/ALBW.

Oh and also, 2D has largely been handheld since OOT, and I prefer console gaming.

Re: Feature: Best Nintendo Wii Games

kkslider5552000

What a fantastic top 5. My favorite game is Metroid Prime 1 so even though I've never played the Wii version, I love how even just being part of that collection, its still at number 1. Good job everyone!

Re: Review: Takeshi & Hiroshi - A Short And Shallow Adventure Which Looks Better Than It Plays

kkslider5552000

Having now played this I can definitely say:

You're being mean to this game.

I wouldn't call it a great game by any stretch of the imagination, and its maybe too expensive, but I felt this had a ton of charm and the limited gameplay was...fine for the short amount it was used here. It was a charming little way to spend of 2 hours. Like the indie game equivalent to one of those cute pre-movie animated shorts.

Re: Another Sonic The Hedgehog Double Pack Appears To Be Coming To Switch

kkslider5552000

How sad is it that the retro 2d game has to be used to entice people want to buy Team Sonic Racing? Because that's clearly what they're doing.

Now granted, Sonic Mania is better than nearly any game you can find at retail quite frankly, so anything that gets it in more hands is ultimately a positive. But considering the reception of both, it seems obvious why they put them together.

Re: Poll: So, What Was Nintendo's Best Year Ever?

kkslider5552000

Probably not the best year for Nintendo, but I have a real fondness for 2003. I don't think I liked both Nintendo games and games I played on Nintendo in general, more consistently, more than that year. Especially since its when I fully fell in love with technically not 2003 games, Smash Bros. Melee and Metroid Prime, which are both in my top 5 favorite games. Those and Sonic Mega Collection ruled my year along with all the actual 2003 Nintendo games.

That was also the year of Warioware, Viewtiful Joe, 3 great racing games on GCN (4 if you count Need for Speed Underground), my favorite post-Genesis 2d Sonic in Advance 2, SSX 3, Beyond Good and Evil, Wind Waker, Def Jam Vendetta, the super underrated Ultimate Muscle video game, Tony Hawk's Underground, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Mario and Luigi, Simpsons Hit and Run, Freedom Fighters, Rayman 3, Astro Boy Omega Factor, Castlevania Aria of Sorrow, Advance Wars 2, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Golden Sun: The Lost Age. Just tons and tons of games I didn't just like, but genuinely loved.

This was also the first full year I had internet at home and the first year I experienced E3 beyond a gaming magazine covering it. It was also the year of X-play, so I was all into gaming at that point. Wonderful year.

Re: Talking Point: Is Nintendo Making As Many Games As It Used To?

kkslider5552000

I think part of the difference is that Nintendo was making quite a few, smaller 3DS games that were download only because they weren't even as ambitious as like 3D Land or anything. There weren't a lot of download only Wii U titles (especially when you take out the ones that were retail games in Japan), and that's true of Switch.

Like I looked through that 2017 3DS list, practically none of you played 80% of those games, and that might've been true even if Switch wasn't out. Even ignoring actual retail games like...Mario Party the Top 100, and Mario Sports Superstars (that fondly remembered masterpiece!), they kept putting out smaller titles. Every minigame in the two big 3DS original Kirby games got an expanded version as a stand-alone download title, for example.

If you wanna look at the actual problem, I assume its that Nintendo has most likely not expanded its more 3DS centric developers quickly enough. Making 3DS games and making Switch games are two different things, and Nintendo's games have generally tried to be larger and more ambitious on Switch compared to 3DS/Wii U, which at points does lead to less games generally speaking. Not to mention developers were still working on 3DS for the early parts of the Switch's life, so that was time not spent on Switch. I don't think we can really judge Nintendo's output on Switch as a whole while the Switch still has a few years left. Look at the PS3 if you wanna see how much things can change over a system's lifespan in that regard.

Granted, I do have some concerns about this. But in the same way I think its a waste that Rockstar only put out one original game this gen and Bethesda wasted their time on Fallout 76. Even Capcom only rarely puts out a new game. I don't like how large companies in general are putting out less games, and I mostly hope the trend of Nintendo doing so doesn't continue.

Re: Poll: No, Really, What Was Nintendo's Worst Year?

kkslider5552000

2008 is absolutely the correct answer. Like in other years, it was more like Nintendo didn't put themselves in the best position.

Nintendo in 2008 was the dominant company in gaming, without question. The combined success of DS and Wii is the type of thing that might just never happen again for a console manufacturer. Outside of Brawl and Mario Kart Wii...what was Nintendo even doing? Like even a lot of their good casual games weren't that year. Like I look for what came out, they had so little on both systems, its embarrassing (and some of the best stuff they did have...was stuck in Japan for at least a year, so yeah...).

Anyone saying 2020 is shortsighted at best. Or maybe is a small child (literally or otherwise).
