Absolutely. I have been playing Yoshi’s Woolly World and have nearly completed the game and found all the hidden items. After that I’m planning to get to Deus Ex and then Batman Arkham Asylum. I love the Wii U, though I doubt this update will make much a difference one way or another.

I so need to buy up a ton of virtual console games before the Wii U eShop closes.

I still have my Wii U but with Pikmin 3 and Mario 3D World ported, I have little reason to go back other than Metroid Prime Trilogy, Fusion, and Zero Mission.

They finally patched in more RAM.

@Peteykins Yeah, I'm sure the Wii U got its first update in years for the same reason that the long defunct Swapnote app on 3DS did. They stopped manufacturing the system a while back, so I've no doubt that this update is to thwart some kinda exploit(s).

All exploits confirmed working. They updated the IOSU kernel to v10, but didn't shift any hacky addresses around. Curious...

Hey guys quick question. My Wii U has been soft modded. Is it safe to update or should I not? If it's only stability it's probably not worth it anyway right? I only did it on the virtual Wii side if that matters.

Got a beat up old junky Wii U, but since the Gamepad doesn’t appear to work, I never played the thing. Maybe I should buy a Gamepad for it.

Can someone tell me if the aiming control axis is the same on Zelda WW HD and TP HD as they are on GameCube? I want inverted camera, but normal aiming (like most games pre Wii U). Stupid BOTW has reversed aiming (or first person looking), even the x axis, if you invert your camera. What an oversight! Same for Odyssey. This is not true for 3D All-Stars, now, thankfully, so there is hope. And maybe the Zelda HD games on Wii U are fine. Haven’t been able to confirm. (Hoping the inevitable Switch ports have a classic mode like 3DAS.)

I still play my wii u weekly

I’ve been playing mine recently! Mostly lightgun games like Sin and Punishment 2, Ghost Squad (Wii) and Duck Hunt on VC. Oh and I’m playing Sonic colors for the first time. The graphics and music in that game are excellent!

Take me down to the Wii U city where the games are scarce and the hardware's ******🎶

Still have my Wii U hooked up. Honestly don't play it much these days, but it's there for Zapper games and Virtual Console games.

@kkslider5552000 That is one of my favorite multiplayer Wii U games. I would love to get a port or a sequel, but I don't know how it could work on any other console.

They should do a package with Wooly World and Crafted World for Switch! Multiplayer needs some adjustment though, sometimes one player dies for stupid reasons.

I was using my Wii U and installing some game updates when this system update suddenly popped up. I thought it had to be related to the game updates in some way, but no, it's actually a new Wii U system update. Mind blown.

mine is pretty stable in a box in the basement somewhere. untouched since we moved lol

Will download when i am next on (likely later today), was hoping for some Opera improvement to allow the browser to use game streaming services at low resolution. Been tinkering with Geforce Now and i am certain there's a way to get Wii U to access it, without hacks.

Luckily it doesn't seem to make any difference to my Wii U setup 😉

Two weeks ago a ten year old game on xbox 360 arcade received an update, something kinda magical about that.

Why dust off what is already used daily? I can't really until Wii U gets Mario 3D, mariokart 8, BOTW and all those other great Switch exclusives!

I weigh myself once a week on Wii Fit U. Other than that, I don't turn on my system much anymore, despite the small backlog of games I have for it.

It appears that some websites no longer function with the web browser. Some still work e.g Polygon. But alot have errors, especially with images, Gamespot and Eurogamer just won't display images. Youtube is completely broken now, but we knew they were cutting support for that ages ago. Overall i think it's killed the browser functionality. An i was hoping for the opposite haha. Oh well.
Edit: browser is still fast, so will tinker to see what else plays well with it. Just seems odd that some things work, and
others are a mess.
Last Edit: browsers been borked, cannot even order a Justeat off it.
Ah well at least i still have my memories. It was a great browser for all of last gen.

I finished Deus Ex 4 times, what a great game! It uses the Gamepad very effectively You will not be disappointed. Have fun!

@Zeldafan79 You won't get any problems. The only thing changed was some SSL code (to connect to websites securely). All existing exploits have been confirmed to still work. I updated and nothing changed.

@FargusPelagius The web browser has been slowly dying over the years, I don't think the update changed much on that front. (It actually may have improved some things.) It is a browser from 2012 that received minimal updates, so a lot of websites don't work with it anymore.

I bought a wii u in December 2019 after owning a Switch since launch. I have to say. I really like the Wii U and it has a ton of games that are not available on the Switch. Example, the Wii U has Tekken!

@TheBigNarwhal Yeah it was fantastic from 2012-2015, then i didn't use it as much. Fairly sure i ordered a Justeat from it in 2017 before i got my Switch(which is used slightly less) So i was surprised that doesn't work anymore. I was watching youtube videos on it, usually Nintendo directs, all the way up to 2019. Now Youtube is just grey squares...
I have been playing alot of my back catalogue of VC and other games i never finished.

My Wii U has been in the stable for a while now, despite being my favourite console in its own time, and that was when I still bought ANY title that meant ANYTHING to me.

I believe SSL has to do with the lock icon that appears by the URL, secure connecting or something.

@TheBigNarwhal is there any way of seeing if it updated the Gamepad? I've just set new Personal bests in the Batman games and had a blistering run on MK8 (golding 200CC). The button response seems extra snappy.
Or Xbox Series S response is so bad, it has made me a better Wii U player (it cannot be that).
Maybe i've gone insane with lockdown.

I wish they had a patch for my problem. I'm having an existential crisis right now because my Wii U gamepad won't communicate with the console, I've got it in a video game repair shop, crossing my fingers that it can be fixed. There's a few games I'm determined to beat that aren't playable without it.

I believe it may be the wireless BlueTooth module. My Wii U Gamepad is experiencing the same issue. I've ordered the part and just waiting for it to come in. Hoping this will fix it.

Just updated our Wii U! Now just have to fix the Gamepad (waiting for new BlueTooth module) and we'll be up and running! I still have the Wii U out (along side our Gamecube, Wii and Switch) because we still like to play Nintendo Land and . . . I still haven't bought Smash Bros for the Switch so we still fire up the Wii U for Smash Bros for 8 players. But if 4 or less players, our friends' kids like Smash Bros for the Gamecube. None of them like the Wii version of Smash Bros.

@NintendoDad Is that in the gamepad, the console, or could it be either? I only handed over the gamepad to the repair shop. I figure it's not the console because the Wiimotes and Pro Controller still work fine.

Yes. I guess it could be either. I tested our Gamepad by taking it over to our friends and our Gamepad did not work very well with their Wii U console, so I made the "assumption" that it's the Gamepad. And its a lot easier to open the Gamepad than the console, so that is where I decided to start. But reading up on it, somewhere along the way I read that the drop-in charger was potentially the culprit. And a lot of the times it is the Gamepad that is bad. So . . . I am going to swap in this module and see if it works. In the meantime I threw away the drop-in charger, and we only charge the Gamepad with a plug-in charger from here on in. Also . . . if we get it working, no more watching Netflix on the Gamepad!!! LOL. We all have cellphones now to watch shows. But as for reliability . . . the Gamepad failing is one of the few things that have gone wrong with our Nintendo products. Our Gamecube, Wii, DS Lites, 2DS, and Switch all still work. Only the Wii U Gamepad and a bit of Joycon drift. But that is about it for faulty gear. We are pretty happy campers here.

@NintendoDad Yeah, it worries me that the gamepad is both integral to the Wii U, and such a potential source of failure. I already replaced the analogue sticks in my gamepad. The parts were cheap, and it wasn't very difficult, but I was nervous when I opened it up and there were all those really thin wires I had to work around.

The only thing that's gone wrong with any of my other Nintendos (barring outright abuse) is: of course Switch Joycons drifting, and the shoulder buttons died on my DSi. And my DSi wasn't even that old when that happened.

@TheFox. Yes. Also, if the Gamepad fails, not only can you not play certain games (like some of Nintendo Land, and Lego City), you also cannot change your WiFi settings. This reminds me that this summer I am going to set up a separate WiFi hub for our Nintendo gear. That way . . . if down the road I can't change the WiFi settings on the Wii U, I can just keep having a separate WiFi hub and keep naming it the same thing. Without the Gamepad, Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros is still playable as are all our Wii games.

As for gear that lasts. I can't believe how long our Gamecube controllers have lasted. We got them in 2004 or maybe 2005. And they still work! LOL. And we've used them on our Gamecube, Wii, Wii U and now the Switch (with both the Wii U adapter and the 8BitDo Gbros wireless adapters.).

RE: Shoulder button. I hear you. I have one Nintendo DS with a bad shoulder button. But I bought that one used and it came that way. So not sure how much it was abused. LOL.

Well I never put it away. I still have a lot of games downloaded on it. All of my starfox games ALL of the legend of Zelda games. I'll tell you what, I think the switch should have been more like the Wii u just so Mario maker 2 would be better, and it would be easier to cross over 3ds games to the switch. It makes sense

@kurisu1984 One day, I want to go back and replay Star Fox Zero, try to 100% it. Played it when it came out and loved it. Saw the complaints many were talking about and felt they were just minor nuisances because there are easy workarounds. Felt like a case of the vocal internet being way too loud and picky.

Maybe a bit too soon, seeing as there are many 3DS / 2DS consoles still out there.

But I was thinking . . . down the road, it could be possible on the Switch.

Just take the controllers off the side. Rotate the console sideways so that the display is taller than wide. So now you have room for both the upper and lower screens (of the 3DS title) to be displayed on the Switch's (sideways) screen.

Then all you need is a gizmo to hold the controllers on either side.
