Re: Class Action Lawsuit Officially Filed Against Nintendo For Switch Joy-Con "Drifting" Issues

jtmnm

"_______ never happened to me, so it must never happen at all, and if it does, it's your fault!!!"

I recently had to replace my left Joy-Con. The stick would constantly drift left and hindered my ability to enjoy gaming. This is the first time I had to replace a first-party Nintendo product in this manner, and I've owned more or less every major Nintendo hardware entry since the NES. Needless to say, I'm a big Nintendo fan, but this is a problem, and the assumptions that people are mishandling Nintendo's products aren't helping. I know a few of us on here are collectors, myself included, so I'd think they'd be more understanding.

I have some information to share I haven't seen here. An engineer on Reddit determined this is a hardware issue resulting from cheap materials. To abridge his findings, the problem stems from the contact pads being made from graphite, and normal wear causes them to produce microscopic debris that then interfere with the inputs. He asserts this makes essentially every Joy-Con a ticking time bomb. While this lone Reddit engineer is not owed the "final say" on this, it's certainly worth investigating, and this lawsuit may be an opportunity to do that.

Re: US Law Firm Opens Switch Joy-Con Drift Class Action Investigation

My Joy-Con that came with the Switch fell victim to the dreaded drift! I tried fixing it myself using guides to no avail, unfortunately. Ended up buying a new pair. I kept thinking to myself, "This is the first time I have to replace faulty Nintendo hardware." For $80, too! Get out of here with that nonsense! That's nearly halfway to buying the Switch Lite!

Mine started drifting to the left. I can't remember if this was consistent throughout the other users' complaints.

The (needed) refinements made to the combat will definitely improve the experience, but it's still limited to being an arena battler. I can't help but think this game would've greatly benefited from an open world and a more exploration-focused design. That's probably just my Xenoblade Chronicles X fanaticism, though.

Re: A Rewind Feature And Two NES Games Are Coming To Nintendo Switch Online This Month

Nintendo's not doing much to appease us gamers that, say, want to revisit a game like the original Majora's Mask without resorting to piracy or scavenging through ancient technology. Sony has no trouble repackaging its more popular series (to varying degrees of quality) for modern systems. To this day, the only actual Zelda collection exists as that Nintendo Power promotional disc. Nintendo's reluctance here is baffling. Several of the widely considered "best games of all time" are under the Nintendo banner. Nintendo has stacks of pocket aces and refuses to play them. Stunning.

Re: Game Freak Prefers To "Implement New Things Fairly Gradually" In Pokémon

jtmnm

Game Freak's development mindset is stuck in the 90s. Sword and Shield will do well, regardless, but I think it's fair to speculate sales figures would be even greater had Game Freak shown interest in adopting more contemporary practices. I'm referring to DLC, expansions, etc. Though it's warranted (in my book, anyway), it's disappointing to see what fans expected to be Pokemon's "Breath of the Wild" moment twist and contort into a PR nightmare.

Re: Panzer Dragoon: Remake Landing On Switch This Winter

@akennelley1 I'm thrilled about it, actually. Shared some screams with the boys (more than once throughout the Direct LOL). Panzer Dragoon is one of those series I always appreciated from afar without ever actually playing. It's good to see it come back. I'll finally get a chance to play it!

I've been playing Trails of Cold Steel II almost exclusively for the last several weeks. Before that, I was playing its predecessor, the first Trails of Cold Steel, again, almost exclusively. Nihon Falcom games can be so captivating. How there aren't more of them on the Switch is a mystery to me.

Re: It's Official, Octopath Traveler Is No Longer Exclusive To The Nintendo Switch

jtmnm

Contrary to this game's (very) vocal critics, I enjoyed it. It won't go down as much more than one of the many highlights of the Switch's library, but it was easy enough to recommend to JRPG fans.

It'll be a treat to play this in 4K with unlocked FPS, assuming SE does a proper job with the port. For a game like this, it was frustrating to see it struggle maintaining 30 FPS.

As for losing exclusivity, OT is still a console exclusive. Had it been ported to the X1 or PS4 with superior resolution and performance, all the Switch would have on the other versions is portability. That alone is enough to justify a purchase for some, though.

I'm playing Ys Seven on PC. I enjoyed Ys VIII on the Switch, so I bought the the titles available on Steam. It's a good thing I first played VIII on Switch, too, because its PC port seems to be unplayable (crashes and other issues).

Also Smash. I usually can't go a day without squeezing at least one game in.
