It's been almost one year since GungHo Online Entertainment revealed the bubble gum game Ninjala to the world, so what's the status on the development of this Switch title? Unfortunately, it will no longer be released this year and has instead been knocked back to spring 2020.
It means the development team now have more time to implement improvements and polish the game in preparation for its final release. Ninjala's executive producer Kazuki Morishita issued an apology and further explained how the team was adding more content to the game to provide a richer experience.
We must admit, this video message brings back memories of the Metroid Prime 4 development update video - when Shinya Takahashi revealed development on the highly anticipated release had been reset. Obviously, Ninjala's delay is only a minor setback in comparison, but it's still interesting to see a developer posting a video like this, rather than a releasing a short statement.
If you need a refresher, Ninjala is online multiplayer title incorporating bubble gum and foam-covered weapons, where descendants of ninjas do battle against each other in an urban environment. Visually, it's drawn comparisons to Nintendo's very own squid kid game, Splatoon 2. You can get a better idea of it in the below trailer:
What are your thoughts about this delay? Were you looking forward to playing it sooner rather than later? Tell us below.

Forgot this was announced, but I'm glad they made the right choice.
Today's market needs less rushed games.
The game looks pretty interesting so I'm glad they're taking all the time they need to get it right. The rest of this year is already pretty packed so it might be for the best anyway.
I’ve been interested in this game since I’ve heard of it- a bit disappointing that it’s been postponed but hopefully it ends up being better with more time to work on it.
I can understand delaying the game to further improve it with more content and such. But why can't we see what the game looks like now, you know, as a sign of good faith? We haven't seen any gameplay of this game since the trailer for it, and that worries me a bit. Especially when they claim they just delayed the game to add more content. We should get something for having waited this long.
Makes me wonder what they've done to the game since E3 last year. I had the opportunity to try the game out there, and it was pretty functional. But it's probably a similar case to Splatoon, where only about 10% of the game was finished when it was shown off at its respective E3.
Glad to see that they need time to make the game right. can't wait to hear more soon!
Never heard of it but it looks nice! Happy they aren't rushing it
Surprised people aren't going "LUL splatoon ripoff and not giving it a chance.
I hope the finished product is great, but they need a whole lot more than that mediocre trailer to get peoples attention.
@Ardisan funny you said that because when I did see this game I noticed I caught a big correlation between this and Splatoon but didn’t see anyone comment on that. But it’s the opposite for me, because of the similar vibes of splat it made me more interested!
Aww i was curious about this one.
hoping this game gets a single player campaign!
These are the people handling the Grandia IP, aren't they? Where's my Grandia collection, Gungho?!
I was wondering when we would get more news about this game. now I'm going to have to wait a whole year to play! At least by then, they get all the things ironed out and look great playing it.
At least Least I'll have Realm royal to look forward to.
Aw, man.... !
Gotta wait until next year.
I actually thought it was made by the Splatoon division of Nintendo, with how similar it looked. Until I looked it up of course. I'm fine with the delay. We have so much to play in 2019 already, so I can wait longer.
What about Grandia GungHo? Where is Justin?
Dammit! This was one of my most hyped titles this year! It's great that it hasn't been scrapped completely but I had really been looking forward to this. Oh well, long as it actually comes next spring...
@Zoda_Fett @Ardisan The only thing this game seems to have in common with Splatoon is just how much colour is it. And maybe the traversal on walls. But that's not really enough to lump them together, I don't think.
So it's a Splatoon wannabe? was kinda hopping this to be a new platformer game
Let hope they don’t cancel the Grandia remaster
The triailer seems more like a wiiware game. The game needs polishing and gravity adjustments....
It may not be an Splatoon copy, but it looks like a Splatoon spin-off. They are oviously trying to capitalize on Splatoons vibes, which I am not against as long as the game does not feel like a [removed] wiiware game.
I NEED GRANDIA NEWS, GUNG-HO!!
@ClassSonicSatAm @ss213 @Ardisan The game definitely has some Splatoon styling, the stages & characters could easilly be confused. However, the gameplay appears to be drastically different. No ink/turf war mechanic? Hand to hand combat?
I'm hoping some of the extra time this game is taking will be used to make it a bit more visually appealing.
@DanteSolablood So it's Splatoon but instead of ink, it's Ninjas
@ClassSonicSatAm So it's Splatoon without ink, turf war mechanics, transforming characters, guns, Splatfests, judges, the developers, possibly even online play.. it's possibly devoid of everything that makes Splatoon Splatoon except the characters look a little similar?
Yup, Splatoon with Ninjas. I agree.
@DanteSolablood It's just another stylish kids/teen game online multiplayer with ninjas rather then ink/guns
judges?...you don't need to have a cat to tell you who got the most points wouldn't surprise if they did have something like that in the game tho by the look of stages I could see turf war mechanics being a mode just rebranding to avoid copyright
it's not that different
@ClassSonicSatAm Well yeah, if you ignore the game, the game is quite similar.
We'll see, by the time its released I'll probably be bowing in apology as a "gum war" mode gets released.
