Re: Axed Pokémon Are Being Added To Sword And Shield By Industrious Modders

jtmnm

The modding community is also "fixing" aspects fans feel were neglected, like tree textures. Given enough time, I think we'll see an explosion of creativity in the modding realm; from things like user-created additional content to bug fixes/QoL improvements.

It presents an opportunity, at least. Should someone come out with a mod that extends the wild area, it may spark my interest enough to actually pick one of these up. For better or worse, Game Freak is well on their way to becoming Bethesda.

Re: Amazon Clamps Down On The Sale Of Used Nintendo Games

jtmnm

I recently bought Hyrule Warriors for Switch on Amazon. The picture listed in the description showed the NA version. I was shipped the Australian version, and the seller never got back to me when I requested to return it. Amazon's excerpt also states a more generalized "products" than the narrow "games" category named in the article. That's worth pointing out because I'm sure I'm not the only one here who's been screwed buying amiibos on Amazon.

I support any policies that hinder the scammer and scalper presence on Amazon. No one should be able to buy up a large portion of a distributor's stock with the intention of artificially inflating costs. Further, no honest practice should allow customers to be sent a box full of Party City gift bags after spending $100+ on amiibos, like in my case.

Re: Review: Dragon Quest - A Classic JRPG Marred By Odd Choices And Technical Issues

jtmnm

The carelessness of these re-releases led me to putting the SNES ROMs on my SNES Mini. I bought all three, enthusiastically anticipating experiencing the original JRPG and its earliest adventures for the first time, but I need to agree with the others here: These look and feel like phone games in the absolute worst sense; inconsistent (cheap-looking) art styles, performance issues, lack of features, etc. These are awful. Dragon Quest deserves better and so do its fans.

Re: Feature: Best Nintendo Switch Games Of 2019 (So Far)

jtmnm

For me, the only game that could dethrone Dragon Quest XI S as the best Switch release this year will be Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition. In fact, I'm counting on it. I'm a huge Dragon Quest fan, but Xenoblade's jump to the Switch will be a much greater leap than Dragon Quest's. Xenoblade's masterful choreography, gorgeous environments, beautiful music, and captivating storytelling were enough to make my jaw drop the first time around in 480p, and a modern coat of paint will only emphasize its brilliance.

EDIT: As it was quickly pointed out, Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition is actually dropping next year. I don't know how I was under the impression it'd be dropping this winter. Dragon Quest XI S will probably sit as my favorite Switch release for 2019.

Re: Masahiro Sakurai Is Appearing On Next Week's Dragon Quest XI S Launch Stream

jtmnm

@Alucard83 One of the features in the Switch's definitive version of DQXI is the inclusion of orchestrated music.

@Patron I'll parrot the others here: XI is definitely an evolution over VIII, and this definitive version will only further that sentiment. I should clarify that I love VIII, too. I must've played through VIII at least 10 times over the years. Both are excellent games, but XI is a modern and improved take on the formula that made VIII so memorable.

Re: Random: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Is About Video Games, So Don't Expect Goku Or Iron Man

jtmnm

Hero not only carries Dragon Quest representation to the Smash Bros series, but he also brings Akira Toriyama's trademark anime style. It is immediately recognizable. Moreover, the character models are beautifully crafted. It's likely this is the closest Goku will ever get to Smash Bros, and that should be enough for the average Dragon Ball fan. If they aren't aware of Dragon Quest, Hero's inclusion might give them a new series to get into.

Re: Review: Daemon X Machina - Solid Mech Mayhem That Gets A Tad Repetitive

jtmnm

It's fun enough, if the demos are anything to go by. Marvelous made some fine adjustments after the feedback from the first demo. This is an action game, for better or worse. The story seems shallow, and every character is forgettable, at least from the latest demo. It is fun, though, and the customization options might be deep enough to warrant some grinding and time on their own. There's also the multiplayer component that could add a worthwhile element. I can see myself picking this up with some friends.

Re: Talking Point: Please Nintendo, Can We Get These Things In Switch Firmware Version 10?

jtmnm

I remember when I thought Miitomo would succeed Miiverse as the Switch's social app. Instead, Nintendo delivered a tedium most players ignore. There's no reason why Nintendo can't offer a streamlined means to communicate. This is a result of their ambitions to set themselves apart from the competition. It sometimes leads to great things, but it can also lead to headaches. As far as messaging on the Switch goes, it's definitely the latter.

A web browser would be nice. The lack of a web browser is particularly strange because it does exist in one form or another. If you need to input a WiFi login, the Switch loads the web page necessary to do so. This must be what hackers granted access to early on.

I'd also like to see a Twitch or first-party app that offers competent streaming. Folders and themes are two more features that are curiously missing. Nintendo is perpetually playing catch-up, it seems.

Re: Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection Leaked, But Not Yet Locked In For Switch

jtmnm

"Ware wa Meshia nari! HAHAHAHA!!!"

I was beginning to wonder if these would ever get packed into a collection for modern systems. I'll venture to guess this is Switch-bound. Mega Man Zero always struck me as X's older and more mature brother, and I don't think I was old enough to fully appreciate them the first time around. I can't wait to jump back in.

Legends next, please?

Re: Review: Grandia HD Collection - Two Classic Games, Shoddily Remastered

jtmnm

These ports are jokes without punchlines and make a strong case for emulation. As a huge Grandia fan, I'm not even going to make an attempt to conceal my disappointment. This collection sucks. While the games are fantastic, their legacies are heavily marred by a variety of technical issues spanning across both audio and visual. The games are barely playable in some segments. It's bonkers.

Since I'm doing some traveling, I can only vouch for portable performance. It's laughable how Dragon Quest XI S runs better than games from the 90s ported to a modern system. GungHo's handling of the leadup to release coincides with the end product. They couldn't care less about the Grandia IP or its fans, and it really, really sucks for those of us who were anticipating replaying two of the best JRPGs ever made.

Re: Nintendo Will Reportedly Fix Joy-Con Drift For Free And Refund Customers Who Paid

jtmnm

Good news for us that had to replace or pay to repair our Joy-Cons. After reading some of the horror stories, I began to wonder when I'd see the dreaded drift again!

To everyone wondering about the lawsuit's utility: Do you understand now? Those were some quick results. Ideally, though, I'd like to see a Joy-Con followup released that doesn't have graphite contact pads.
