Re: Nintendo Switch Online 14-Day Free Trial Is Now Available (North America)

@KayFiOS I appreciate your comment. Unofficial emulation of current gen is without doubt a big no no. It just so happens that those who created the Switch emulator also created the 3DS emulator, and they agreed to take availability of both down. Everybody has their own opinions, the world is full of lots of different views and that's a good thing. People have their own moral compass, and we all live and learn every day. It strikes me that unofficial emulation has become more and more accepted as the norm. Dumping and ripping games leads to them being shared online. I remember being struck by how prevalent piracy on the DS became back at that time. And now this gen it became the norm to see people advising others that it is preferable to get a Steam Deck and emulate, instead of getting a Switch. I appreciate what you're saying about games that are no longer available. But that is part of marketing. Withholding things. Things the owner has every right to make available or not, that's their prerogative. No individual has any right to demand something which belongs to someone else be made available to them. It is completely up to Nintendo what they do with their games regardless of what critics say. Nintendo will be analysing and strategizing, and planning how to market everything they have created over all that time. Nintendo is a wonder, I really hope and want it to succeed.

@KayFiOS My intention was not to insult, only to convey what I feel is obvious. I'll remind you you called me a sheep. I could say that about all the people regurgitating the same arguments in favour of unofficial emulation.

An unofficial emulator has no right to exist. I am well aware many do exist. Nintendo has every right to offer emulators of its own consoles. They would obviously be the only ones that do have that right.

You mentioned preference when talking about unofficial emulators being better than official ones. It isn't a question of preference. It's simply a case of who has the right to offer it.

It actually seems quite difficult to make points against unofficial emulation, as there is so much parroting of the same arguments over and over again: preservation / I'll play my games on any hardware I choose / if Nintendo offered adequate services people wouldn't do it ... etc

Any reason is just an excuse to justify it, to reinforce resolve to continue doing it, and to further spread word of doing it.

Hey @NintendoLife ! Could be a really good opportunity for a really interesting poll here !!

How about some suggestions for the options !?

Possibilities:

•"Piracy is fare game"

•"Emulation is legal and I have the right to play my games any way I like"

•"I support emulation but do not support piracy"

•"I disagree with emulating current gen systems"

•"I disagree with all unofficial emulation"

•"I support Nintendo"

😃👍

Re: Nintendo Sets Its Sights On Switch Emulator Yuzu In New Lawsuit

@dmcc0 Fair comment. It is surprising to me that making a copy of a legit copy is deemed legal. Is that regardless of format ? so it applies to digital too ? It strikes me as very strange that that is allowed. Copying is copying after all. It's not as if when you buy a game physically you are also getting a digital copy. It isn't actually possible to "format shift" is it, only to make an additional copy. Dumping or Ripping a game from a physical medium doesn't remove it from the physical medium. In this day of big digital format sales and streaming I can't see that being left unchallenged going forward.

My original comment was coming from a perspective of logic, and common sense. And as I later said - a matter of Respect. But it's also a matter of principle in my view. The way the world works is via value exchange. Something for something. It isn't a one-way street. Else it just doesn't work.

I appreciate your reply

To anyone defending piracy - NEWSFLASH: "Dumping" or "Ripping" games is COPYING. And that is the very purpose of copyright - to protect original works.

When you legitimately obtain a copy of a game it DOES NOT entitle you to duplicate it. You have a single copy of said game in the medium which you obtained it in.

Think of all the time and effort that goes into creating an original work. Be it film, music, videogame, anything. Created for the very purpose of selling copies of it. To earn money back, and hopefully make a profit on it. As well of course creating a piece of art which adds to the tapestry of life.

Copyright is the protection against illegitimate duplication. Only the creator / lisence holder of it has the prerogative to make copies of it available.

If you are interested in something then support it. Legitimate consumption is the only metric that counts. Even for older content. How do you think sequels or new versions / revivals of old content will come about ? - Only through measurable consumption of the existing content via legitimate platforms.

Lastly - You are not entitled to demand something be made available to you, that is the prerogative of the owner. They may do with it what they please. Something being unavailable to obtain legitimate access to DOES NOT grant you the right to obtain it by illegitimate means.

@dartmonkey There are no issues if you are the Admin of a Family Group which has no Child accounts (that is my circumstance)

As long as you don't have any eShop credit then there is no issue (must have NSO Auto-Renewal turned off, and NNID unlinked) 👍

*Just learned from your article that you also can't have any pre-orders.
Great article 💪 Really good job

Excuse me @Olliemar28 "Users will be able to play 3DS titles legally by dumping their games" ?

You do realise the terms "dumping" and "ripping" are used to avoid using the word "copy" ? Because that is exactly what happens. It's not possible to remove a rom image from a cartridge, only copy it. And I assume as a human of the world you are familiar with copyright laws ?
