Re: Rumour: Port Specialist Bringing High Profile Shooter To Nintendo Switch

hadrian

Once upon a time we had something called "conversions" where rather than porting a game, a developer would build a game to a system from the ground up but still using some assets from the original. A lot of home computers had these and the NES thrived from this being done (Contra was so much better on the NES than the arcade one, then there was Ninja Gaiden which ended up being its own game) were and the last one I remember was Capcom doing Dead Rising to the Wii but using the Resident Evil 4 engine...it didn't do well and not the best example of this but I'd like to see developers try this however I dont see publishers forking out for extra developer time.

Re: Japanese Charts: Ring Fit Adventure Beats Marvel's Avengers To Number One

hadrian

I played Avengers, I tried to get into it but bailed after 3 hours. Its just tedious! I got fed up of going to AIM facilities over and over and the combat is so weak. I went and played Hulk Ultimate Destruction and thats still a lot of fun

An old Gamecube licensed game should not be 10 times more entertaining than a modern game that took many millions more to cost and was developed by a good dev!

Re: Feature: 1995's Nintendo Was Arrogant And Ahead Of Its Time All At Once

hadrian

@BulkSlash Had they chosen the CD format, the N64 library would be much richer and they would have been able to do a lot more with it, some of the DD software would have certainly got a release outside of Japan as they coukd have used CDs instead.

Nintendo sticking to cartridges meant Sony could eclipse them in that generation and that began people only buying Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games. The Gamecube would have benefited too if it was able to play N64 discs!

Re: It's Not Out Yet, But Super Mario 3D All-Stars Is Already 2020's Second Best-Selling Game On Amazon

hadrian

@carlos82 It's happened before! I worked with someone who sold games £20 higher than RRP, (search for any game, even Mario Kart 8 and you'll see one on sale for £79 for no reason at all) and then when someone bought one from him, he'd then go and buy it from Argos or shop.to as they sell games chaper, and then send once he got them! However sometimes he had to refund the buyer. This guy is an absolute c*nt but then people should research prices and not assume eBay would be cheaper!

Re: It's Not Out Yet, But Super Mario 3D All-Stars Is Already 2020's Second Best-Selling Game On Amazon

hadrian

I wonder if everyone will get their pre-order this month!

I pre-ordererd a NES Classic way before it's release and kept getting the "we will ship your order once we get new stock".every week. Had to cancel it in the end as Argos got stock. A bit of a different kind of product of course but just because you have a pre-order, doesn't mean you'll get it in the launch window. A lot of places do tend to oversell as some can be cancelled.

As for the price, I did think it was too high considering how bare bones it was...but then I did buy both Galaxy games off Wii U VC for £18 with zero improvements!

Re: Super Mario 3D All-Stars Lands On Switch On 18th September, And It's A Limited-Time Thing

hadrian

Its 42 quid on Shopto and you just try pre-ordering this thing! It says "11,567 people are about to buy this"! Most I ever saw was 27 when Cyberpunk 2077 went up for preorder. Site is so slow and just crashes, never seen it like that before.

Yup, good luck getting a physical copy. Seems like people are freaking out about the limited time and maybe scalpers are taking advantage too. It would have been fine, its only limited time, not limited copies but not now.

Nintendo are going to make a lot of cash with this, people will grow impatient and download it THEN double dip with physical.

Re: Nintendo Reveals The Top 15 Most-Downloaded Switch Games In August 2020 (Europe)

hadrian

Great to see Stardew Valley still regularly in the top 10 after being released a couple years ago. Must be a lot of new Switch owners jumping in after great word of mouth or maybe tired of Animal Crossing and wanting a new time sink.

While I have abandoned Animal Crossing, I still get the urge to play SV! While I have done everything and I'm waiting for the update, its great to start a new farm to do things differently and it always feels great.

I've also pre-ordered the physical version so its my 3rd time buying it (first time on Steam) but its a cheap game to buy and I feel Eric Barone deserves every copy sold, the support and updates given on this game is incredible and his next game is an instant but because of that.

Re: Feature: Best Nintendo Switch Life Sims And Farming Games

hadrian

Graveyard Keeper is grossly ignored by this site. My only issue with it is SO MUCH ***** TO DO AT ANY MOMENT!

I enjoyed Forager but I don't feel it should be on this list as it's quite arcadey and not at all like a "life sim" once you're done...you're done. Fantastic game still.

Might give Doraemon a go after other sites rated it so highly, I cant say Friends of Mineral Town has aged well after the recent version, just seemed so limited compared to Stardew.

Re: Switch Exclusive Sports Story Has Been Delayed

hadrian

Whatever it takes! I loved Golf Story, it was like a huge expansion on Mario Golf GBC/GBA and where that game series should have gone rather than where it went. I'd like to see more of Sports Story as there was to take in from the first trailer.

I'm suddenly really bummed out to what Camelot has been reduced to, they used to make really meaty titles you could really spend a lot of time in and now...

Re: Poll: What's The Best Paper Mario Game?

hadrian

Bug Fables. Get it if you've been unhappy with what Nintendo has been doing with Paper Mario. Its half the price of the latest game and far more entertaining and interesting. Miyamoto needs to allow Nintendo's developers to do what they want to, he is the problem.

Re: Here Are The Top Ten Best-Selling Nintendo Switch Games As Of June 2020

hadrian

Shame NSMBUDX has done so well compared to Mario Maker 2. While MM2 wasnt as significant of a sequel and was stripped of some features compared to the first game, its vastly superior compared to the mediocre lack of effort NSMBU was plus the single player mode had more love and far better level design was much better too.

Seriously, if you want a 2D Mario and you dont have either...get Mario Maker 2. Once you've done with the SP, you have thousands of excellent user created levels/Worlds to grab too. The variety is excellent too.

Re: Nintendo Switch Sales Surpass 61 Million, Equalling The Mighty NES

hadrian

I'm not sure how much the next gen will effect the Switch in the future.

1. The Switch is its own thing, it's occupying the home console market as well as the serious portable gaming market, which Nintendo has owned since the Gameboy.
2. People dont seem as interested in next gen like they usually are. Late PS4/XBONE games still look amazing.
3. Nintendo can just do a "Pro" version if sales lag or easily do a price drop.

Re: Atari Has Looked To Nintendo For Inspiration With Its New VCS Console

hadrian

"Atari’s goal is to reach the mass consumer that may not want to pay a premium for a layer of hardware performance they rarely tap into"

So instead get them to pay £299-$399 for something that doesnt have a hardware performance rather than what Sony, Microsoft & Nintendo can offer for about the same or less? The Switch is a home console and a handheld and has great support. Xbox has a fantastic online service and excellent Games Pass plus its a multimedia juggernaut. PS4 is also a multimedia juggernaut and PS Now is getting better. Atari has nothing. Evercade has something! A cheap console for people who dont want to mess with emulators.

They need to look at the market more and see why they are ***** up with EVERYTHING they do! This thing will fail, it will fail with that price and even if it was £100 because it offers NOTHING that consumers can get elsewhere.

Re: Talking Point: Is Nintendo Making As Many Games As It Used To?

hadrian

I've played more indie titles than Nintendo titles on the Switch. They just seem to last a lot more than Nintendo's stuff. Nintendo aren't making bad games just nothing that really "wows" me like they used to.

We seem to be waiting for next year rather than what's coming up this year...EVERY YEAR since the Switch came out and it seems like we're making do with DX versions of Wii U games or game like Mario Maker 2 that lack new content the previous game had. I think of games I'm looking forward to from them and its the next Zelda and Metroid Prime 4...but maybe they will be out next year? Maybe they will be delayed...maybe? Which is fine, Breath of the Wild took its sweet time and was fantastic but I miss their little surprises...the likes of the first Mario Maker, Splatoon, Pikmin, the first Smash Bros, Kirby's Mass Attack. Games that come out of the blue and we just fall in love.

This year? A port of a niche GBA Pokemon game, Paper Mario which seems like a fine enough game but I wont ever buy it as Animal Crossing which I played a lot for a month and then went back to Stardew Valley 'cos it feels empty and erm...I can't remember anything else! Basically games that just feel that they don't have that care and love that we expect. Luigi's Mansion 3 had that care and love and that's the only one I can think of released last year that had that, Pokemon definitely didn't that is for sure.

Maybe we've been spoiled by having a home console and a handheld, remember their handhelds were always crushing it with excellent first party support and it seems like we're losing those extra titles.

I feel they lost heart and soul when Iwata died and that is evident in their games and sounds like Miyamoto has way too much control over other teams to let them flourish.

Re: Nintendo's Directors Earn A Relatively Modest Wage Compared To Other Industry Execs

hadrian

@jsw-8 Nintendo has one of their weekest years - Satoru Iwata voluntarily takes a big pay cut to keep it's employees.

Activision does slightly worst than previous year - Bobby Kotick gets a pay increase & lets thousands of staff go.

Japan does things differently to America and Bobby Kotick is a piece of crap who doesn't care about the human side of business...and yet the World takes Satoru from us and Bobby keeps breathing...

Re: Stardew Valley Creator Teases Version 1.5 - Expect New End-Game Content And Much More

hadrian

@tgchan I'm with you, I havent played an Animal Crossing game properly since the GC game as none of them grabbed me. I thought New Horizons finally got me but I stopped after a month. It needs way more QoL improvements as there are far too many annoying things in it and it needs to have MORE things to do, I've played SV for 4 years from PC to Switch...I've been spoiled! You have to do better Nintendo!

And yeah, Nintendo has been a bit lacking for me. I've enjoyed a lot of games but none I really go back to aside from Mario Maker 2 and even that is only because of user created levels, it wasn't much of an improvement and Nintendo dropped support within less than a year and it feels...incomplete...there is room under 3D World for more themes dammit!

Stardew...goddamn is this a content heavy game! For such a low price it has given me more hours than any game ever! I've even got multiple saves with different types of farms and one where I go the Jojo route rather than Community Center and its a wonderful experience restarting, usually games like these can be a chore to restart but not this, you play in different ways. My daughter gets up and plays 2 hours a day at a minimum and its been a great game to bring us closer. I've never bothered to really 100% games unless you get something significant out of it but Stardew, I just want to see everything and I'm still discovering new things, things that weren't even added in the update!

Mr Barone is making two Stardew related games, I believe one is a spin off which is "a little fun" and another is in the Stardew world but not a farming game but is a very ambitious task. No matter what they are, day one purchases for me. I have a lot of confidence in him and his team and I love how much free content he has put into one cheap title.

As for this screengrab...wouldnt it be awesome if the door leads to a new boat...and Willy lets you rent it to go sea fishing? Or even to a secret island!

Re: Review: Ultracore - DICE's Lost 1994 Run And Gun Shooter Is Reborn On Switch

hadrian

I'd like to get it as I prefer these types of shooters than the likes of Contra. These old style Amiga games some were hit or miss but when they hit they HIT just like with the Turrican games and the art style is different to what people are doing with retro style games now but...damn that price is a bit much for a game where the new devs didn't really do much else on top of what was already done. Gonna have to wait for a sale.

Re: No, Seriously, The Wii And Wii U Are Getting Physical Versions Of Shakedown: Hawaii This Year

hadrian

Xbone owners are pissed about this, they've not even got a digital port of this and a Wii/Wii U port is gonna pour some vinegar in their wounds.

I understand where they are coming from but this guy just thought "I wonder what a Wii version will be like?" and then saw it worked and got on with it!

I missed out on the physical Switch version so will grab a Wii copy if I can as its nice and quirky and it'll be nice for the Wii to read a new game disc.
