Re: Pokémon Detective Pikachu Shocks The Competition In Its Opening Weekend

You definitely do need to be a fan of Pokemon! This movie is otherwise just another generic blockbuster without a person being into the series.

I really enjoyed it...shame Rhyme City was pretty much London with some stuff added on top, it took me out of the action when it was set at a building where I worked at! There was still a lot of fun to be had, I as worried the trailer showed all the best bits but it didnt. I cant say I care about watching it again though and I'm not fussed to see a sequel what with how it ended.

Perhaps they could do another Pokemon spin off? Pokemon Snap, a story about a budding photographer who discovers a great secret or Learn with Pokémon: Typing Adventure, an Oscar worthy tale about one persons quest to get rid of their illiteracy...

Re: Stardew Valley's Next Free Update Will Be "Packed With New Stuff" For More Fun

hadrian

I've kinda"finished" it twice (once just doing things via Jojo Mart and another just with the community centre), as in done everything I can do and see so would love some more content, I'd even pay for DLC to see another town. I still put in maybe 10 hours a week as my daughter likes to watch so I'm fine doing chores and starting a new farm from fresh with different tyoes of land is great as you have to do things quite differently.

Re: Nintendo Will Keep Offering Add-On Content And Free Updates For Its Games

hadrian

@Ttimer5 I think DLC is more likely than a 9th entry. It'll be more cost effective, will encourage more people to buy it including those who bought the Wii U game and hasn't had a reason to double dip and it wont cannibalise MK8DX sales.

MK8DX has pretty much been in the top 10 games since it's release and shows no sign of slowing down at all, Nintendo has no reason to spend time, money and resources to make MK9, which would definitely need to show an significant amount of content and gameplay ideas to warrant a sequel (remember Nintendo are not EA or Activision when it comes to their big franchises) especially when an existing cash cow is selling just as well and even better than some of their new releases.

Re: Switch Accounts For Almost Half Of ToeJam & Earl: Back In The Groove's Early Sales

hadrian

@joey302

Not really. The first Xbox is practically the Dreamcast 2 (at one point there was talk about it being backwards compatible) as it had all the better SEGA titles like Panzer Dragoon Orta, Crazy Taxi 3, Jet Set Radio Future, Outrun 2, Outrun 2006...sure Monkey Ball showed up first on GC but it later came to Xbox and then they also put most of its sequels on it like Toe Jam & Earl 3, Shenmue 2, Headhunter Redemption, House of the Dead 3, all of its sports and racing titles.SEGA had must have good response on xbox than GC as they carried on putting games on it until the very end. With Nintendo....the mediocre Billy Hatcher I think is the only true exclusive on it.

Nowadays of course SEGA on Nintendo is where the fans want their games to go but SEGA seem to stick with the more powerful platforms and then maybe some on Switch.

Re: How The Crypt Of The NecroDancer Developer Got To Work With Zelda

hadrian

I think indie is the way to go for a lot of their properties, mainly the ones laying dormant like F-Zero, Kid Icarus, Startropics, Earthbound, Pilotwings, Advance Wars etc. They dont even have to be retro revivals eitger as companies like Shinen have proved they can do high end graphics with a small team.

Might also be a great way to revive ailing franchises like the current Mario RPG games, Starfox etc. These really need some new breath of life that Nintendos 2nd and 1st party studios are failing at and also free up some teams to work on new ideas rather than stagnate working on the sames games as always.

Re: Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition Seemingly Teased For Nintendo Switch

hadrian

It's quite a good shooter, there are some refreshing takes in the gameplay however nowadays others have used them so it doesnt feel as fresh compad to when it released in the 360/PS3 era. Still I'll put it up there with Doom/Wolfenstein for Switch FPS games but definitely wont be worth £40-£50+ (which it will be) at launch seeing how old it is (there's a ton of other games my money is reserved for and I can get 3 of those for that price) and you can buy it brand new on other platforms for £10. It will bomb for the 3rd time only Gearbox will blame it on the Switch.

Another thing, the Duke Nukem content is incredibly lazy. Has the voice work and of course the model but that is all, it's practically Duke Nukem saying lines that were not intended for him so sounds really out of place.

Re: Review: Awesome Pea - A Retro Platformer That Lacks Colour In More Ways Than One

hadrian

@RyanSilberman
I know right? It's seems to be a design choice for a lot of retro style games nowadays and one that at times you can't disable.

Played the demo, it's ok but not spend money ok. There's too much choice for great retro platformers on the Switch for anyone to care about this game.

If anyone wants a great GB style game that actually feels like a GB game but one that actually tries to do its own thing then try Save me Mr Tako if you havent already. That game seems to be totally forgotten now and wrongly so

Re: New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Japanese Sales Prove Plumber Port Profitability

hadrian

@Marios-love-child

My issue is the lack of effort in most of these and the pricing. I wouldn't mind owning NSMBUD but it's a 7 year old game with the sub-standard NSLB packed in and an extra character...and it's being sold at full price. I'll bite if it was £30 perhaps but not at full price for something so lazily done and something I can buy for my Wii U for £10 used and it wont look that much worse either. Some significant new content would be a great incentive too.

Now compare it to what Microsoft did with Halo Collection...this is a five game collection featuring games that have been remastered properly...[removed] Microsoft are still supporting it! They gave it a free update so it can now be played in 4K. Hell, compare it to what Nintendo did themselves 26 years ago with Super Mario All-stars. The ported 3 NES titles and significantly upgraded them graphically and sound wise, and then added a Japanese only version of SMB2 on there which was also upgraded to the SNES standard Why couldn't Nintendo do a New Super Mario Bros All-Stars? Because that would have taken more effort, money and dev time to do! Nintendo has been really [removed] with doing "remastered" port jobs for a very long time. Metroid Prime Trilogy was a very rare thing indeed too.

Re: These Are The Differences Between Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn And The Original Wii Game

hadrian

I already own it on the Wii and the demo didnt do anything to want me re-buy it due to the tiny screen more than anything plus I've never been fond of the 3DS analogue stick and it doesnt feel right with it.

I may go for a Switch port just like with every damn Wii, GC, DS to 3DS port that Nintendo has released since the Switch all of which didnt do very well in terms of sales...I also doubt we'll see any come to Switch as these are purely cheap ways to keep the 3DS going.

Re: Nintendo Planning Ways To "Boost The Appeal" Of Switch Online Service On A Yearly Basis

hadrian

Problem is that its REALLY bare bones...sure you get some NES games that most Nintendo fans have or can easily pirate and a poor online service. Compare that to what the competition has and yes XBLA is about £20 more but forget its a more worthwhile deal even then! A few great games for free a month that arent easily piratable (recent examples are Celeste and Assassin Creed Rogue for around 4 quid a month and lets not forget Games Pass that in February will offer remastered Arkham City and Asylum, tge redent Tomb Raider and ALL of Microsofts first party titkes the day they are released plus an an incredible wealth of classics from newer Wolfensten, Doom, Halo, For Honour, Graveyard Keeper, Terraria, Braid etc which you can just download and play) a extremely wellmaintain online service and extremely good exclusive members sales...i just got the excellence Titanfall 2 for less than a fiver...come on Nintendo you're stuck in the past! You make the best games but run the worst service. Even Sony have them beaten with what they offer.

Re: Video: 7 Things You May Not Know About Wargroove On Switch

hadrian

@Spectra It has a certain charm and character going for it that sets itself apart from Advance Wars. The trailers make it look like its just a fantasy version of those games but to me its more to it.
The characters themselves may be something that could bring you into this game. Perhaps watch a youtube video of someone playing it for half an hour and then decide.

Re: Video: 7 Things You May Not Know About Wargroove On Switch

hadrian

After several hours playing this I honesty think that this is its own game, yeah it takes inspiration from Advance Wars and Fire Emblem but it does it's own thing and has a lot of new stuff to offer. The amount of content so far in this game is astounding for a 15 quid game.

As a developer and publisher Chucklefish have really nailed it with their games, they can do no wrong in my book .

Re: Don't Expect A Game Card If You Buy One Of These PlayIt Budget Titles For Switch

hadrian

@Pally356 It's most likely the same port of the CD32 game (which had totally different levels than the Amiga, C64, console versions) thats been shat on PS1, PS2, GBA and DS. I was wondering when it would be coming to Switch seeing its getting been every low budget release.

Would love to have the original game on it, no idea why that CD32 version had new levels when the thing at the time was to just port any Amiga game with the least amount of effort and add a animated cut scene.

Re: Looking For A Brand New Wii U? That'll Be $800 Please

hadrian

I've just hacked the crap out of my Wii U. What a Nintendo powerhouse, access to all Nintendo games from Arcade to Wii U plus so many more systems...that easily beats having a RaspberryPi which can just about play N64. Legally, it's still worth buying as its possible to buy hundreds of Nes to Wii titles for the Wii U...the Wii U online is a million times better than the Switch...a console that has already outsold it and is BRAND NEW! This shouldn't be a thing, the latest console SHOULD have a better service than the previous...the 3DS is far better. This shouldn't be a thing. A portable from 8 years ago should not have a better online service than one from 2017...

Now if only Nintendo actually had legal way giving its full console and handheld library games on the Switch. Well OK some Wii U ports and NES classics but it could and should be so much more.

Off topic rant:
The Xbone allows you to play OG Xbox, 360 and todays games and you can play a ton of them for less then ten quid a month...why can't Nintendo do something like this? Don't they like money? Dont they want their fans to have a fantastic service that goes beyond what Sony does? Shouldn't they...a company that has been making consoles for 35 years be at the top for service?

I get their online service costs 20 quid a year but all you get are the same NES games as ever and a really poor online service. I've just bought Microsofts Games Pass for 46 quid...sure its 26 quid more BUT I have instant access to hundreds of games right now that include AAA titles, Microsofts own titles DAY ONE WHEN THEY RELEASE and a ton of amazing indie titles (for those who don't like Gears, Halo etc). On the fence about the latest Halo? Just download it! That is fantastic...and yet all I want from Nintendo is at least be able to pay for Virtual Console titles from its entire history. I'd happily put down 17 quid for a GC/Wii classic.

Re: Reggie: Third-Party Gaps In Switch Game Library Linked To Timing Of System Reveal

hadrian

And yet other developers have managed to release 3rd party games within the first 6 months...and also what is Nintendo's excuse for not having a regular supply of their own games?

Wii U ports, a half baked Mario Tennis and an OK Kirby game simply does not cut it! We had to wait until the end of the year to get 2 big titles from a company that MADE the Switch so knew far in advance what to do. Indies are keeping me playing the Switch this year.

Next year will be a lot better I'm sure though I'm also sure Nintendo will still deny its customers the things they desire (a good online system, retro games that aren't just the same NES games we've had for 10 years) I mean throw the Waluigi fans a bone at least! It's as if they don't like money...

Re: Review: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - The Absolute Pinnacle Of Nintendo's Fighting Series

hadrian

World of Light was a little bit of let down as I hoped for a platform adventure but it is a nice bit of diversion. That mode stops this from making this a perfect game. I'm also not fond of that black hole section during the classic mode...needs to have more than just one level layout.

Other than that, far far better than the 3DS and Wii U versions which I could never get into and maybe better than Melee

Re: Bubsy The Bobcat Brings His Next Adventure To The Nintendo Switch In 2019

hadrian

So not a good series, the original 16 bit versions and then Jaguar game were VERY mediocre indeed and of course the PS1 game is atrocious and seems like they put an early beta on a disc. The recent game was so dull and meh it isnt worth commenting on whatsoever. If this next one isnt any better I'd doubt anyone would care, there is only so many times you can sell a game on infamy.

Re: Bethesda Confirms It Won't Be Bringing Fallout 76 To The Nintendo Switch

hadrian

At least they looked into to the viability of these coming to Switch and I hope others do the same. A lot of it stems from storage and the likes of Doom, Wolfenstein etc werent that big files on other systems and will be the reason if ee never see Spyro as thats being reported to require 3 discs!

I know a bunch of people will go "just get Panic Button!!!1111!!!" not understanding that they are ONE SMALL DEVELOPER already working on ports and not all game engines are as scalable as the ones they were able to port.

Re: Video: Check Out Yooka-Laylee's Demastered Nintendo 64 Mode In Action

hadrian

For me this game was the perfect Rarelike platformer which is also its curse.

I loved them back in the day but now I see the mediocre cluttered level design, tedious padding out the game time but they do still have some character and charm.

My favourite was Conker but I couldnt even be bothered to finish it. Far too repeitive and the missions go on for far too long with the padding...that dino part made me want to eat my own head.

Yooka is all that to a tee.
