During the EA Play conference this year, a representative of the company said the third-party giant was planning to bring "seven new games to Switch" over the next 12 months. Not long after this, industry insider Jeff Grubb revealed one of these titles - according to his own source - was likely to be a remaster of Criterion Games' 2010 racer, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit.
While there's no official confirmation from Electronic Arts just yet, a listing has now popped up on the Australian and New Zealand online retailer, Mighty Ape. It's unknown how long it's been live, but on both versions of the website, it's listed for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch.
There's no mention of a release date, but you can apparently pre-order the game right now. Here's an image of it listed alongside the original 2010 release (on the NZ webpage), as well as the AU listing which includes some screenshots.
While there's no guarantee this is necessarily the real deal, it's definitely interesting timing. We had a look around on the same website for the other rumoured EA games (also mentioned by Jeff) such as the Mass Effect trilogy and a Switch version of Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville, and couldn't find any evidence.
So, when might a remaster of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit be announced? Well, there's an Xbox Games Showcase taking place next week on 23rd July, and before this is a special Xbox pre-show hosted by Geoff Keighley - who yesterday teased the event would feature "additional world premieres" from Xbox's partners. With any luck, we'll hear something then!

The titles from the Hot Pursuit sub-series are my favorite NFS games, looking forward to it
Good old EA, only they would say ‘seven new games’ when in fact, they meant two new games, a bunch of last-gen titles and a Legacy Edition of FIFA.
The graphics look pretty cool, but I really don’t like racing games or EA. Soooo yeah.
I wish Nintendo made controllers with an analog trigger
Well, I did like Hot Pursuit. I wouldn't say no for $30 or $40 due to the replay I get out of them. I'm not paying $60 for a re-mastered re-make third party title, though.
Unless it's Mass Effect Trilogy. With all DLC. All.
@Thunderbee Agreed! Have you got any Gamecube controllers knocking around? It's not ideal, but the triggers on the GC pads are pretty good, imo.
Release a stuntman game! I loved those and haven’t played one in forever
Can't wait to play it again, now having the game on the go would be a treat. Finally glad it's the Criterion version of the game and not the awful Wii verison.
Sony and Microsoft will be priced at $40 and Switch will be $50 just watch.....
I will end up getting it. Never played it, but played Most Wanted and really liked it.
@NullPointerExcep I agree 100%. These are my favorite racing games in general.
All time favorite nfs
@Kintypoo121 I do, I got them to pay Grid. But honestly, I just couldn’t find a way to like them for racing. I really hope they make a new pro controller.
@Thunderbee Yeah, a proper first-party controller with analog triggers would be great. Maybe they could make the triggers switchable between a press and a trigger somehow for the best of both worlds? Perhaps they could make an 'Elite' style premium controller? Now that would be something!
@HobbitGamer
With all the cut content also! I know the Mako exploration was widely criticised but they cut out half of the planets in the original ME. There was also a lot of character arcs removed from ME2.
Only racing game besides f-zero and MK that I’ve spent an insane amount of time with.
Good that the next generation can experience this gem. It used to be pure fun.
Please do no screw this up, EA. Do not implement microtransactions.
@Thunderbee i agree about the analog triggers mate. I have a cube controller but im not forking out extra money on an adapter for something nintendo didnt bother to implement in their new hardware. I simply refuse to do it. Its an absolute joke. I know that nintendo dont care and dont miss my sale but i simply refuse to buy a racer on switch.
@Kintypoo121 an elite controller. Now that’s an awesome idea sir.
@Kidfunkadelic83 I haven’t bought any racers since Grid and don’t plan on doing it again either. I will join you in them not getting my sale either.
I am more then just excited about this
Burnout Paradise is awesome, so NFS would be awesome as well for the Switch, which, for many of us, is the first time we're playing these "old" games, so they are new to us.
I hope the rumor is true, since these NFS developed by Criterion, are for me, the latest "best" (should I say, decent) that there has been in the franchise. (I haven't played Heat yet, but I think it can be good)
Even so, I am still waiting for the day they do a remake, port or something that takes the originals from 1994-2002 ...,
It will be a long wait ... * sigh *
@retro_player_77
However, despite how "low" that game is, I consider it better in many ways than the latest and recent NFS (not mandatory online, local multiplayer, customizable races for single players and multiplayer and a hint of the classic NFS, ah, and no microtransactions)
I am not buying EA as long as I don't get a physical of Mass Effect trilogy with all DLCs on my Switch. Will consider stopping my EA boycott and grab NFS HP if that happens.
This would very welcome. Good game.
This is great news, I loved this on PS3. But I never finished it so this is a day 1 purchase for me.
Not a big racing fan but loved this on ps3 but I got it for 6 pounds in 2013 xx
I could see this being announced in a direct.
This, THIS is what i bought a switch for. Oldass games that i can buy at a mere $20+.
Great.
One of my favorite racing games ever! I'm really hoping these rumors are true.
@AG_Awesome Funny you should say that, I just ordered the old Stuntman Ignition game as it's backwards compatible with my Xbox One... Looking forward to playing it shortly...
The GBA also had a Stuntman game, it reviewed well, I remember playing it alot back in the day...
Regarding Switch, a simple port of Stuntman Ignition would be great on the platform....
thats if ea doesnt jack the price up like they did with burnout game.
The got me super confused... So is Hot Pursuit a remake of the original NFS3: Hot Pursuit from 1998? That was a great game!
Ehh that wasn't even that great of one, sort of when the series was going downhill. Better than the new one but still, I would much rather have Hot Pursuit 2 (2002) remastered. Probably the last great original NFS game before the series changed.
@mazzel Nah I wouldn't call Hot Pursuit 2010 a remake of the old ones at all, it was just a cash-in on the name since the first two Hot Pursuit games were so fondly remembered. It played completely different, more like Most Wanted.
Need for speed most wanted please..
"Are the rumours true?"
Inb4 this listing is the product of the retailer wondering the exact same thing.😅
Something something boycott,
Something something old ass game
Something something port at full price
Something something hate EA
Something something another old game
Something something micro transactions
Just trying to cover the quality responses we see on every Remaster/port/EA thread
You cool kids.
Look forward to this one. Will instantly become one of the best racers this gen
I can't wait for this game. I love Burnout Paradise and now another Criterion game? Man that's incredible!
@Thunderbee yes! I find that Grid Motorsport is practically unplayable. Brake and throttle on the right thumbstick isn’t working for me either.
NO MASS EFFECT, NO PARTY.
I played on the PS3. The game is awesome make sure you have a good sound system for this one.
@Stocksy Completely agreed with your summing up and subsequent conclusion concerning all of the something somethings...
If we’re porting Criterion games then please give me Burnout Revenge. My favorite racing game of the time. The crash mode in that game has never been done better.
@Thunderbee
I completely agree. As you know; Nintendo has proven they can build excellent analog trigger with the GameCube controller.
I really hope EA port SSX over.
@JayJ Hot Pursuit 2 on PlayStation 2 is a masterpiece, the greatest NFS game and one of the greatest racers ever (along with Burnout 3).
@FrowningCoach your statement is true for me as well. Except not meant ironic. I never had a console after the PS2 era and I totally love all the ports coming to Switch. It’s like there might be a big time independent library in the long run.
@MrAsild isn't that part of the reason EA isn't bringing games to the Switch? They feel it won't be lucrative?
@Yanina I understand your POV, but charging people that much for a rehash of a game is just not an honest practice IMHO. If you haven't played it good for you, but in the end i reckon its about one thing only; $$$
Great game, of course, everyone will moan about the pricepoint though and then swear to never buy it, also stating that it released on consoles five years ago etc.
@FrowningCoach Yep, that's how companies survive.
@Stocksy Well, They did it to themselves. You can't blame people for critizing what is true. Don't expect us to change if their not going too, and they've had years to do so.
Hasn't there been a NFS Hot Pursuit 2 on the PS4?
Anyway, I will probably end up getting this as this is meant to be one of the better NFS outings.
If this rumor is true, then I wouldn't mind playing it given I never played this version of Hot Pursuit, only the Wii one (unpopular opinion, I had fun with it). Plus, I kind of want the novelty of saying "I have both Hot Pursuit games on Nintendo systems." As silly as that sounds.
If Mass Effect or Dead Space trilogy is not amongst those 7 then I will accept that EA is runned by blind and death idiots.
It depends.... If the cars feel to heavy like need for speed on Wii U then no thanks, if they feel light and fluffy and have great handling like they do in burnout Paradise, then yes please.
I thought the rumors were that it was most wanted that was coming to switch? I'm kinda disappointed I wanted more open world racers on switch. Loving playing burnout paradise on switch.
Even the rumors for unannounced games are snooze fest ports.
@JayJ too bad... I played the sh*t out of NFS I-III. Probably also because of the lack of other games back then compared to today, but man, just the radio talks when the police started chasing you was thrilling as a kid!
I cant wait to pay £50 for a game I can get for £5 on 360/PS3! Woop woop!
Of all the NFS games this is the best one imo hands down and the perfect pick to re-release on the current gen systems! Especially being a Nintendo Switch version being included!! Played the hell outta this game on 360 & PS3!!
@nessisonett
And all at full price too.
@joey302 Same! This is my favorite NFS. Criterion really outdid themselves with it. It was my most played racing title, second only to Burnout Paradise which I 103%.
@retro_player_77 I had been wondering such version of NFS:HP the Switch version would end up being. I had fun with the Wii version (mainly because it was my only console and I was determined to enjoy a racing game) but also remember thinking uncharitable thoughts about the fact that Nintendo fans, again, got a lesser, "alternate" version of a game instead of a true cross-platform release. I might consider this, depending on the price and if I can get it on cart.
sigh... another last gen game. sometimes i regret owning a switch. it gets treated by publishers like absolute garbage. so many games that would have potential on switch (even downgraded) never release because their publishers never give a single sh*t about nintendo despite the install base.
For exemple bandai could have released other tales games, code vein and the last SAO but they didn't and they won't because "it's too difficult" or the good old "we would have to do a lot of modifications"
@Casual_Gamer95 namco always makes excuses wen it comes to tales games.
@Steven_the_2nd hope it’s true and if so I can’t wait!! In fact, I’ll grab the Switch version ASAP then down the road wait for sales on the Xbox & PS4 versions then grab those 😂 🤣☺️
@Primarina I guess mainly the multi platform Switch owners. The dedicated switch owners complain less in my opinion.
I prefer the original Hot Pursuit version but maybe this is better than some of their recent additions of NFS. I haven't tried this updated version as NFS has lost its touch of being interesting since the Underground series.
