One of the most popular indie hits on Switch is finally getting the physical treatment fans have been hoping for, as Fangamer has revealed a gorgeous new release for the wonderful farming sim, Stardew Valley.
There are actually two different physical editions in the works - a standard release and a Collector's Edition - with the latter being available exclusively via Fangamer's site. Here's what you can expect to find in each version:
Standard Physical Release
- Available on Nintendo Switch game card.
- Plan to include Version 1.4.4 on the card, with free updates available for download as they become available.
- Includes mini illustrated guidebook to help players get started.
- Reversible cover art with Joja-themed alternate design.
Collector’s Edition
- Deluxe six-piece wooden standee made from responsibly sourced birch and cherry wood.
- Wooden lapel pin
- 14-page Junimo comic by Chihiro Sakaida
- Deed to your farm featuring gold-foil details on paper made from 30% recycled straw (a byproduct of actual farming!)
- Sturdy, high-quality Collector's Edition box featuring artwork by Kari Fry
- Soft polyester-nylon blend cleaning cloth designed by Chihiro Sakaida
Pre-orders are live as we speak, with both editions planned to launch on 6th November 2020.

"with the latter being available exclusively via Fangamer's site."
So the standard version will have a retail release?
I've already got a physical copy of Stardew Valley for Switch. It was released exclusively to Japan a while ago. The box art for this release is really nice though.
@Quarth
Yeah, Hollow Knight and Undertale both had standard releases at retail, although they were fairly small print runs.
@Magician Will this not have the dlc on the cart?
welp, a purchase i didn't anticipate, but my wife and i both love this game so felt necessary
Well that’s gorgeous. The vinyl OST was a great purchase for me so I’m severely tempted with this as well.
@GrailUK
It'll ship with the most recent version of the game. But Stardew Valley is still being supported with infrequent updates by the developer, ConcernedApe.
I still haven't played this yet (I know...)
This might be the opportunity for me to dive in!
Wow that's gorgeous
I have Fangamer's special editions of Undertale and Hollow Knight, they do great stuff.
I already have the Japanese Collector's Edition of Stardew Valley, so I don't need to order this really, even if it doesn't have the latest update on the cart itself.
The trouble with ordering from Fangamer though is that the shipping is really expensive. I'm hoping that in Europe they will have a retail physical release like they did for Hollow Knight.
The outer box is looking really, really ugly
While having a more recent version of the game on the cart is nice and all, once a new update is released, however insignificant it may be, you will have to download ALL updates to date, not just the difference between the current version and what's on the cart.
This collector looks really good!
I’m a sucker for cute things but I do enough farming in real life gotta pass.
Damn it, I might actually bite on this one if shipping isn't too bad.
I paid for it on the PC.
I paid for it on Switch.
Yeah I'll get this Collectors edition, I love this so much I want a physical and the extra stuff looks great.
One of the few collector's editions I've bought! Shipping and taxes were horrendous, but oh well.. ^^'
Shame you know it's going to be outdated at some point (when a new update releases), but I kinda doubt this game will ever get another physical release anyway.
Bought the cookbook way back when it was first announced...wonder if I will get a discount for that.
Great game. Trailer makes me wanna start again playing. But I think this physical release has come just abit late.
@RupeeClock Agreed. Fangamer really does the best work. Now if they could only rerelease the oxenfree vinyl. I need it haha
This is nice, but I feel like it makes more sense as a digital purchase. I like being able to pop in and out of this game whenever I want, without having to change cards.
@Magician But is it restricted to the US?
This was the easiest $107 I ever spent. Love this game.
@RupeeClock I am also disappointed in the price of the Fangamer shipping! Definitely getting the normal physical version if it is available here in Europe or some other place with normal shipping prices.
I really hope Graveyard Keeper also gets a physical edition! It is the creepy version of Stardew Valley!
@RupeeClock Why do companies always forget about details like that when announcing things like this? Are they just run by idiots or something?
Man, I've been waiting for a physical for so long! I already have the digital, but I may have to buy it again...
@Monkeido And because of your purchase those insane prices won't be changing anytime soon so thank you for that.
This is «not the physical treatment» I’ve been hoping for. My hope was a regular European release, not a break your bank for an American-import release.
@Quarth @Zuljaras
Restricted to US? The collector's edition will be, yes. However, the standard edition will be available at GAME (UK) and JB Hi-Fi (AU).
@Magician This is nice! From USA I only order from LRG and their prices for shipping are fair 17$ (it was 15$).
Now I hope that it will be available in my country as well
I sold my japanese copy to a guy for $200 in april in anticipation of this. I'm quite pleased.
I caved.. loved the game
Well it’s about time for Switch! The PS4 and Xbox one have had physical copies around for years now!
@Magician But not Europe then? Swede here.
I can always import it, of course. I'm actually waiting for a copy of Undertale from Fangamer.
As much as I love Stardew Valley and as good as these editions look, I am still not ready to trust Fangamer after they bungled the Hollow Knight physical release. For those who may not know about this, Fangamer claimed all DLC was on the cart, but actually shipped an earlier version of the game “by mistake”, which means you need to download the last DLC for the game. They apparently owned up and replaced US carts, but not European ones: they basically told me “sorry for the inconvenience”. They did release an updated European version with all DLC, but my local stores never got it and I don’t really want to risk ordering online and getting the old one again.
@Timmytron LOL
Yes I had waited forever for this game to get physical.
Yeah, I am so very tempted by this. Shame about the shipping cost though.
I will complain if mine does not include that pumpkin
Was going to buy it, but not paying over $50 to have it shipped to UK.
Thought it would just covert to £ and was only in $ due to it being an American based website and not be much for shipping as it states it will be manufactured in UK as well as USA and Japan, why do I need international postage if its will also be made here!
Probably my most-favourite and most-played game on the Switch. I’m actually rather sad I bought it on day 1 it was available on the eShop because I would have loved getting my hands on the collector’s edition. Just can’t justify the price, especially since everyone I know already has Stardew as well, can’t just give the game to someone else. And I don’t really have the space for all the collectibles. Still the nerd impulse-buyer in me really wants this!
I have waited purposely 3 years with anticipation that this day would come. I never played it as a result, in defiance of going digital and double dipping. I wanted this in a preserved cart form.
And finally I get to indulge. Needless to say I’m super excited to dive into this game....!
@Falien Wow so not only are they incompetent as all hell but their also biased towards the US and in some state of mind think that screwing their European customers over is somehow acceptable. Thanks for telling us all about this, now I know where I'll never be purchasing stuff from.
@Timmytron Sorry for not being poor and wanting something? Pathetic, trying to attack me for my purchase.
@Timmytron I think you should have a good long look in the mirror, if things like videogames gets you so riled up.. Also, I'm helping myself by getting the item I want.
