Re: iFixit Performs A Full Teardown Of Nintendo's "P**s-Poor" Pro Controller

glennthefrog

@RobertCorwen Don't hold your breath if you're expecting the EU to enforce anything regarding the European Green Deal. They won't even mention the initiative's name in official parliament reports these days and are actively rolling most of it back.

The battery requirements were supposed to come into effect this year but unfortunately those requirements will probably never be rolled out in reality.

On topic: I really liked the Switch 2's Pro controller. I understand why this guy got bent out of shape but from a player's perspective it feels great to use.

Re: Random: Xenoblade Chronicles X Pops Up On Microsoft PC Game Page

glennthefrog

Highly doubtful just because it's XCX. The only reason Nintendo would choose that as their maiden PC port would be to intentionally tank sales so investors would stop bothering them about PC ports.

(To be clear I love XCX, but it is not a mainstream title by any stretch. On a list of games Nintendo should port to PC for easy cash it would right near the bottom)

Re: Front Mission 3: Remake Is Still Alive, And It's Coming To Switch Soon

glennthefrog

@Vyacheslav333 Yeah, Zwei is vaporware unfortunately. The first game didn't sell and they just never formally announced the cancellation. I hate that too, it was one of my most anticipated games. They really should have skipped the original since it was so light on content and started at Zwei.

Front Mission 3 is real though. It's been playable since TGS last year.

Re: Yooka-Laylee Dev Playtonic Is The Latest Studio Hit By Layoffs

glennthefrog

I love the first two Yooka games but Replaylee seems to have stolen all their momentum, as GoldenSunRM astutely pointed out.

Looks grim. They're in bad shape and their hope rests with a remake of a game that didn't blow the doors off at retail to begin with. I hope they can pull through because I am still looking forward to Replaylee and (fingers crossed) a 3rd game in the series.

Re: SNK Announces ACA NEOGEO Selection Vol. 5 And Vol. 6 For Switch

glennthefrog

@Moistnado Yep. Greed creates an inferior product.

It's a shame too because we could have some incredible retro collections as you mention. The preservationist in me would love if companies just dumped their entire 16/32-bit catalog onto a single cart.

I was hoping we'd eventually reach that point where old games were so 'worthless' (due to being seen as obsolete, or the easy access to retro emulators) companies would sell their catalogs in big bundles, but if anything the sales of these remakes/collections have made it clear the fans will buy it piecemeal for 10x the price.

Re: Xbox Is Raising The Price Of Consoles, Accessories, And Games Worldwide

glennthefrog

@fenlix I don't think it's accurate to say Nintendo decided prices before even considering tariffs to be honest.

The tariffs were a known threat to all future imports well before they were unveiled, and although Trump never gave specifics during the campaign (does he ever?) it was clear it would at minimum match the tariffs imposed on the USA by other nations on a case-by-case basis, or be even worse as some sort of punishment.

Nintendo baked this into their prices, both the console and software. Probably with some conservative profit margin cushion in case the tariffs were even worse than expected. No competent electronics corporation was shocked by a rise in price due to tariffs in 2025. It was crystal clear protectionism was the name of the game in the US moving forward. International corporations hate it, and rightfully decry it, but it was a known issue coming down the pike.

Re: Opinion: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's Best Gameplay Feature Is Straight Out Of Mario's Playbook

glennthefrog

I disagree. I've found the QTE the worst part of COE33. I'd prefer actual turn-based gameplay, or actve-time battle at most. The timing is very finicky, nothing solid like a Souls game, which causes frustration when it feels as if I timed it right (or at least the same as when it worked a moment before) but it doesn't trigger.

I hate that RPGs keep being so ashamed of their heritage, Atlus has proven over and over again you can sell turn-based RPGs they just need to be quality. Yakuza 7 and Infinite Wealth are also great examples of pushing the genre forward while still retaining turn-based gameplay.

Re: Talking Point: Does Switch 2 Have Nintendo's Best Launch Line-Up Ever?

glennthefrog

If you never owned a PS/Xbox/gaming PC than it's definitely a contender. Cyberpunk, SFVI, Civ 7, just a lot of really good stuff that never made it to Switch until now due to hardware limitations to pad out the launch window.

But if you pare it down to only Nintendo exclusives it's solid but lacks the heavy hitter to compete with BOTW, Mario World, Mario 64, etc.

Re: Ex-Nintendo Duo Unsure Mario Kart 9 Will Be An Instant "Slam Dunk" For Switch 2

glennthefrog

I think they're totally missing the point here.

They're acting as if Switch 2 requires MK9 to sell the system at launch, but that's not really the situation at all. The Switch 2 will sell out at launch regardless, this is not a Gamecube or Wii situation where they're trying to sell the successor to a console which was sputtering (or stone-cold dead) at the end of its life. The hypothetical mom will still buy her kid Switch 2 because it's the hottest toy at Christmas this year. MK9 would also be on Switch 1, removing the $400 barrier.

Just a nonsensical critique overall really. The previous game was one of the best-selling games of all time...so we can't expect the sequel to do as well. I mean, I guess that's true in absolute terms, it probably won't outsell MK8's lifetime totals. But at the same time it is the sequel to one of the most popular games ever, that counts for plenty. MK9 is as can't-miss a sales proposition as ever exists in gaming.

Re: Star Fox Veteran's New Game Is Channelling Serious Lylat Energy

glennthefrog

@RupeeClock Argonaut owns Croc, or at leas the founder does, so that's a really straightforward project. I don't find it suspicious they aren't involved with this new game from an ex-employee (from 30 years ago), I don't think it really signals anything one way or another except that Croc is a better fit for Argonaut at the moment.

An Argonaut spiritual successor to Starfox would make me personally super happy but I understand why they might shy away. They never owned the IP and might not want to draw Nintendo's ire, and Starfox has never been a mega seller with the exception of 64.

For a small developer it makes more sense to do a quick, and cheaper budget, remaster of an IP you own rather than do a new IP based on a franchise you don't own that last sold exceptionally well in 1997.
