The sad thing is I actually thought it would be different this time. It is crazy that Nintendo has actually gotten worse over the course of the last few years at things like this.
I totally agree that work/life balance is important. They should remedy this issue by maybe not putting 2019 up when they first announce a game. At the very least, give us an update similar to what they did with Metroid Prime 4.
I'm not mad that it was pushed to 2020. It's bad to get mad over stuff like this anyways. After all, they are only vide games. If you are like me, you have an insane backlog.
I guess I'm hoping for somewhere between a "it's coming next year...sorry, it's not," and "look at this game that won't be coming for 6 years (Sony)."
I have to be honest. Maybe I'm just being a spoiled brat, but I'm kind of over these releases. At the rate, we wont see a SNES or N64 online on this version of the Switch.
Okay, I work in the financial services industry. That does not of course make me an expert on every stock, but I've passed my series 7 and 24 so I have an idea about the industry.
The Nintendo fan has every right to question the investors, and actually, some of you are correct when you say these people probably don't even own a Switch. Most of them probably do not. You would also be correct in assuming that most of them only care about "$$$."
There are a good portion of people who invest in companies because they like their product. Warren Buffett is big on this so it's a nice strategy, but there is a large number of investors especially ones that might invest in Nintendo that only care about turning a profit.
We could get technical, but in the end, Nintendo is a stock that is concentrated in one sector. Xbox has everything that goes with Microsoft. Sony has a wide breath of products in different industries. Nintendo does not. This makes them a play for people like hedge fund managers, sector-based mutual fund and ETF managers, and even some emerging market managers that are very aggressive.
These guys, especially hedge fund managers, buy in very large lots and they trade a lot off of news, analytics, and even their gut. I'm not saying it's right, but they see a big title move to March 2020. They don't care that third party support, a still stellar line up, and a future push in brand awareness is on the horizon. They are basically looking for the next mover.
That being said. As a fan of the industry and Nintendo in particular, it is a good buy. They have a ton of cash on hand, and they have little to no debt as a company. However, considering what games are on the horizon, any extra money you have sitting around may already be spoken for.
I now this is a Nintendo sight, but I like Phil Spencer. I think he is a welcome addition to the industry, and he's done a pretty good job of telling you something is going to happen and making it.
This is a great time for gaming period. I lived through the console wars (Nintendo vs. Sega). It was enjoyable to see the two sides bicker, but the idea of owning the system you want to own and being able to play a Rocket League or Fortnite against or with someone on another system is great.
This continues to be one of the most disappointing aspects of Nintendo. At this stage of the game, I would not hold my breath to get anything from MyNintendo worth something. Most Nintendo fans already have the games they are giving discounts to.
@Heavyarms55 The Disney thing wasn't on him. He had Infinity in a really good position. Disney just decided to go in a different direction as they are apt to do. I didn't think he fit with Gearbox to begin with, and considering the recent news, I do not blame him for reevaluating the company. Plus, who could blame him for leaving anywhere for Nintendo, I'd change careers right now if Nintendo came calling.
I imagine there are more than 10’s. This is probably my favorite series of games. It’s definitely my favorite sports series with the exception of the really bad PlayStation game.
I remember in Wii days when it was announced Tecmo was bringing a football game out, I was so excited. Unfortunately, we got Family Fun Football.
Obviously, they shouldn’t pass off a PS4 version for a Switch, but as a video game consumer, you know the two aren’t going to be equal. We know the specs.
I love Nintendo, but sometimes I just don’t understand them. Out of all of the Labo Kits that could use a trailer, this is the one that needs it the most. They give the announcement, put up a single page, and that’s it.
We have no idea what to expect. What will the games look like? What will it be compatible with? I don’t get them. There’s a disconnect somewhere in the marketing department.
I haven’t read every post here so pardon me if this has been already stated, but until Nintendo decides to put more storage in their system they definitely should not get rid of the card slot.
The current storage size is ridiculously low. I know you can buy your own, but Micro SD card pricing isn’t low enough to get the storage you want for the price. I can buy a 4TB hard drive for my Xbox and spend less than a $100 if a good sale comes up. That same money doesn’t come close to getting me 1TB for my Switch.
This is just another example of how Nintendo can’t get out of its own way sometimes. Any goodwill they build up, they have a tendency to lose. NES Online seems like an afterthought to them.
This thing kicks off with a release schedule we can all look forward to. Now, it seems like they don’t even think about it until we are a good week into the month.
While I enjoy the XBox or PlayStation reveal each month, I really don’t care about this one at all. As for the SP games which we’ll probably get, I never play them.
I actually enjoyed the Tsum Tsum match 3 game for iOS. This makes sense considering this was linked to LINE. I’ll probably pick this one up for the kids.
I guess I get the SP, but it really does nothing for me, and it doesn’t take away the sting of their lackadaisical approach to NES Online to begin the year. It just feels like there is no plan.
I think whatever information we will get on Animal Crossing, Pokémon, or Luigi’s Mansion will be minimal. Probably, some sneak peak with no info.
I imagine if we are getting Metroid Prime Trilogy, we will see it tomorrow. We will probably see another Smash character. I think the thing that drops tomorrow is the SNES online. Then, we will get the new Labo kit.
Then, they’ll focus a good portion on Fire Emblem. They’ll show a little of Dr. Mario, and I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if we didn’t see a new 3DS game like Super Mario Sunshine in the similar style of Luigi’s Mansion.
I’ve said it on here before. I’m a Nintendo apologist to a fault, but even I’m sick of this online thing. There is really no reason that all NES first party games couldn’t have been available day one. There really is no reason SNES games haven’t made there way on the system.
It’s like Nintendo didn’t look any further than the end of the year with the realease schedule. It really feels like little to no thought is being placed on Online at this point.
And, while we are on dropping the ball, MyNintendo is just terrible. It has yet to reach any level they promised. Sorry about the rant...I think I’m okay, now.
I liked Runbow better. Runbow has its quirks, but it is packed full of content. This game was fun, but I haven’t gone back to it. My kid and I still go back to Runbow.
Once they explained how they planned to develop MP4, it is not surprising that the restart is happening. The surprising part to me is how they thought this would work well in the first place.
The new president is not starting out on the right foot with me. It's not because he has decided to restart MP4. It's not because of his comments about more mobile gaming. I think it is his go to market strategy on getting the news out there.
We haven't had a direct this year. They tossed us a bone with the Indie Highlight, but that didn't amount to much for me. He could have put together a rather substantial Direct. In it, he could have announced the MP4 restart and smoothed it over with, but here is Trilogy for you to enjoy in the meantime.
We are heading into the last week of January, and we have gotten dates here and there, but we have seen very little game play video on what to expect between now and E3.
@smashboy2000 I completely agree that Retro is now available that means their game is done. This is pure conjecture, but here is what I feel might have happened.
Retro was working on this game that is now finished. They were not available when Nintendo thought they needed to get news out for E3 2017. Nintendo wanted to maintain momentum so they mocked up a logo, and they announced it.
The further you get into how this was being developed the weirder for Nintendo this seems. It sounds like a disaster on paper. I can’t imagine how this got off the ground. Of course, I guess it didn’t.
I gotta be honest. The storage of the Switch is one of my biggest gripes. I understand why it was chosen, but I have to think we could have done better with the on-board storage than we did. Sure, storage is getting cheaper, but as large as many of these downloads are becoming, we will need multiple SD cards. If there is indeed a new version of the Switch on the horizon, I hope they fix this issue.
We all know they are coming. I just wonder when it will happen. They aren't even close to being through the NES collection, but I won't argue if they start this.
I think you will see Skyward Sword before either of the Zeldas on this list. I imagine eventually they will get here, but I think 2019 is a stretch. I can see Pikmin 3 close to the time of a Pikmin 4 announcement. Considering 4 is supposedly almost done (years ago), this one is the most likely. I don’t see Tokyo Mirage making it. The Wonderful 101 deserves a second chance. Mario Maker is a wildcard. The interface has to be done right, but 3D World will probably get the Delux treatment.
As for me, I’m like most and ready for new content. I’ll say this. These ports are great filler to keep Nintendo in front of gamers on the down months.
Since Super Smash Ultimate is doing so well, why not a Mario Kart Ultimate. It could have every course from the history of the series. They could make it more of a Nintendo Kart game incorporating all of their properties, and they could then give us new courses from the said properties. It could then be a platform all it's own with season passes for the year giving you access to new DLC. Then, they could keep it going for as long as the Switch keeps going.
I want to preface this by saying I love Nintendo. I am very happy that the Switch is the success it is. They have an opportunity here that I hope they build on, and if everything comes out in 2019 that is currently scheduled, I do not see how they keep from maintaining the momentum they currently enjoy.
However, I personally do not play my Switch near as much as past systems. Maybe it says more about me as a gamer now, but outside of BotW and Odyssey, I really have not done much with it. Things have tightened up around here so I haven't purchased some of the games I would have liked, but I haven't really had the itch to either.
Again, this could be just me. Here is to a healthy 2019 for Nintendo in any case!
I'm as nostalgic as anyone, but there comes a time when it just has to be said. An Atari 2600 game collection is not worth purchasing. It was wonderful for its time, but it does not hold up well. I really wish these collections would focus more on the arcade games than the console games.
I think it is a solid surprise choice. It’s something that no one expected. I don’t think it resonates as much as the Cloud announcement did, but props to Nintendo for making this happen. It shows they are not afraid to stretch the boundaries, and I think it says a lot for the Switch.
However, the Game Awards announcements really didn’t do anything for me. There are some nice exclusives, and it shows Nintendo has come a long way from Wii U in reestablishing themselves in the industry. I’m guessing that was their point in this.
I’m afraid that if a Direct doesn’t happen that gives some update on the first party stuff for 2019, this will be lost on everyone. I really was expecting something on Metroid Prime. That’s my fault though for being a bit disappointed.
I actually still have the Wii Steelcase edition of this one. It would definitely need to be an HD remake with traditional controls for me to double dip.
I don't think I would consider it a funeral. Nintendo put a goal out there that would be difficult to reach. Honestly, being in financial services, few companies do this. Most of the time they low ball a number so they know they can hit it. That is why you could see a company stock go down despite better than expected earnings. Nintendo didn't do that with the Switch.
The Switch is still doing well. Everyone new the number was high when they projected it. However, with the Pokémon title and Smash, they are going to move a lot of units this holiday season so it is still not out of the question.
That said. The first three quarters of the year was slow, but what do you expect? They were coming off a previous year where they released arguably two of the best games of all time.
It seems like some people think you can just throw a game together. Rockstar only releases a game every couple of years. Nintendo is releasing multiple games as well as supporting a system.
2019 looks to be a solid year, and if they get some of the same support that they had from third parties this year, it should be outstanding.
@bakerboy0017 With this logic, it would be assuming that you will only receive NES games for the next three years. I am imagining that you should be receiving more than just this. I’m certainly not saying this is perfect, but I’m willing to let them work it out for $20 per year.
Everybody misses paying $5 for Super Mario Bros. on the Virtual Console. They would rather do that than pay $20 for 20 games and the ability to play online. I don't get it. I guess its Nintendo's fault for giving online to us free for the last decade plus.
$20 isn't bad at all. I don't understand what the problem is. I'm sure we will get more than NES games, but we are getting Pro Wrestling. That is almost worth the $20 right there.
I do believe that more than anything this is somewhat of a beta test for a new way to deliver gaming. First, they certainly will have an opportunity to tweak the system to get it running smoothly. Second, it will give them an idea on whether or not consumers are willing to game this way. If it works we could see more. It could also be a baseline for whether or not their own subscription service might work.
You bet. I’m a controller junky. I have no idea why, but I want everyone of the stupid things even that awful looking Eevee. It’s a sickness I need help for.
2019 will be an insane year for Nintendo. It’s like they finally decided to the fans most everything they were asking for. Luigi Mansion, Animal Crossing, Pokemon, and possibly a Metroid Prime 4.
I wouldn’t expect a ton as far as free content. Look at the My Nintendo Rewards and you can probably get an idea of what to expect. If they would run a Netflix style service past games available, I’d gladly pay the $20 per year. In fact, I’d pay up to $6-$7 per month for it, but I don’t see us getting that.
I had this on the Wii U. It was okay for the price, but it’s certainly not worth buying again. I enjoy my Switch, but everyday I get on here only to see another port.
To me, the Switch feels very much like the Wii. We are beginning to see a lot of last gen games ported over. That said these are solid games that are now portable so I guess it’s not all bad.
The Switch eShop is going to start looking like Apple's app store. They had better get a handle on how they plan to curate this thing, or they will have some real issues. Of course, Nintendo doesn't help when they say they would like 20-30 games releasing for the Switch every week.
I really would like Mario Kart and Smash Bros. to be a platform in and of themselves. I would gladly pay for new tracks and characters if they would just keep adding on to the existing game. As it stands now, I still haven't purchased MK on the Switch. I have the DLC, and I am not paying full price just for the Battle Modes.

Re: Soapbox: We Like To Grumble, But Nintendo Switch Online Is Actually A Very Generous Offer
@bakerboy0017 With this logic, it would be assuming that you will only receive NES games for the next three years. I am imagining that you should be receiving more than just this. I’m certainly not saying this is perfect, but I’m willing to let them work it out for $20 per year.
Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 6.0.0 Is Now Live
Everybody misses paying $5 for Super Mario Bros. on the Virtual Console. They would rather do that than pay $20 for 20 games and the ability to play online. I don't get it. I guess its Nintendo's fault for giving online to us free for the last decade plus.
Re: Switch eShop Maintenance Scheduled For This Evening, Nintendo Online Service Ready To Go
$20 isn't bad at all. I don't understand what the problem is. I'm sure we will get more than NES games, but we are getting Pro Wrestling. That is almost worth the $20 right there.
Re: Assassin's Creed Odyssey Is Coming To Nintendo Switch, But There's A Catch
I do believe that more than anything this is somewhat of a beta test for a new way to deliver gaming. First, they certainly will have an opportunity to tweak the system to get it running smoothly. Second, it will give them an idea on whether or not consumers are willing to game this way. If it works we could see more. It could also be a baseline for whether or not their own subscription service might work.
Re: Wireless Famicom Controllers Are Being Released For The Nintendo Switch In Japan
You bet. I’m a controller junky. I have no idea why, but I want everyone of the stupid things even that awful looking Eevee. It’s a sickness I need help for.
Re: Opinion: What Did You Think Of Today's Nintendo Direct?
2019 will be an insane year for Nintendo. It’s like they finally decided to the fans most everything they were asking for. Luigi Mansion, Animal Crossing, Pokemon, and possibly a Metroid Prime 4.
Re: Professor Layton And The Curious Village Will Be Released On Mobile In The West
This is a solid game. I don’t see why they can’t package these games together for the Switch. they are porting everything else.
Re: Talking Point: It's September And We Still Don't Know Enough About Nintendo Online
Re: Retro-Style Vertical Shoot 'Em Up FullBlast Is Firing Onto Switch Next Week
I had this on the Wii U. It was okay for the price, but it’s certainly not worth buying again. I enjoy my Switch, but everyday I get on here only to see another port.
Re: Fox McCloud Won't Be Flying Solo In Ubisoft's Starlink: Battle For Atlas
I want to preorder this game, but we were really burned on toys-to-life.
Re: Telltale's The Walking Dead Seasons 1, 2 And 3 Are All Coming To Switch This Year
To me, the Switch feels very much like the Wii. We are beginning to see a lot of last gen games ported over. That said these are solid games that are now portable so I guess it’s not all bad.
Re: Over 1,000 Developers Want To Bring Games To Switch Using GameMaker Studio 2 Engine
The Switch eShop is going to start looking like Apple's app store. They had better get a handle on how they plan to curate this thing, or they will have some real issues. Of course, Nintendo doesn't help when they say they would like 20-30 games releasing for the Switch every week.
Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Will Feature 103 Unique Stages
I’m not good at this game, but the music tracks alone would almost be worth buying. If you can get a collectors edition with a cd collection, I’m in.
Re: Talking Point: Should Nintendo Keep Releasing DLC For Mario Kart 8 Deluxe?
I really would like Mario Kart and Smash Bros. to be a platform in and of themselves. I would gladly pay for new tracks and characters if they would just keep adding on to the existing game. As it stands now, I still haven't purchased MK on the Switch. I have the DLC, and I am not paying full price just for the Battle Modes.
