Re: Talking Point: Why Metroid Dread Will Be Worth $60

fortius54

I had this discussion this week with some one. They didn’t think a 2D side-scrolling game was worth it.

I have been buying games for a very long time. There hasn’t been a great deal of price increase especially compared to inflation. I don’t mind the $60.

Re: Roundup: Here's What Was Revealed In Nintendo Direct E3 2021

fortius54

Not a lot in the Direct for me. That said, I do realize that there was a lot of stuff for other so I’m happy for you. In general, I thought E3 overall was just okay.

I guess it’s my fault for expecting too much coming off of COVID. In the end, I think Metroid Dread is the one I didn’t know about that I’ll get.

I still think that an Ultimate Mario Kart game could have been done, but I’m just a fan. I don’t know much.

Re: New Mario Golf: Super Rush Website Gives Us A Closer Look At Characters And Courses

fortius54

Mario Golf World Tour was a great game. I enjoyed that game so much more than I thought I would. I hope there is some sort of DLC for courses. Most of these look fairly realistic, and I was hoping for something a little crazier.

I’m cautiously optimistic on this. I don’t know if it will be day one though. I may get a feel of how some of the fans are reacting to it considering how Mario Tennis turned out.

Re: Feature: Our Predictions For Nintendo's E3 2021 Direct

fortius54

@AtlanteanMan I understand where you are coming from, and I agree with a lot of your points. However, I see it from a western love the old Nintendo characters perspective. I think the Switch has been solid for fans of the RPG especially the JRPG.

I do think that COVID has given them an excuse to dial it back. That is why I think this E3 is important.

COVID has also put Microsoft and Sony on its heels, and Nintendo is in a rare position to keep market share despite new consoles being introduced. We’ll see what they come up with, I guess.

Re: Talking Point: Should Nintendo Do More DLC For Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Or Just Release Mario Kart 9 Already?

fortius54

I just want to let everyone know that you have nothing to worry about. Nintendo will announce the release of Mario Kart 9 at E3.

I resisted buying Mario Kart 8 Deluxe because I did not want to purchase a game I already had on the Wii U. Well, the Wii U but the dust last month. I received a 20 percent off coupon from GameStop and thought why not?

Now, that I have done the very thing I said I wouldn’t, you can probably expect the gaming gods will make me pay for my mistake.😁

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The February 2021 Nintendo Direct, Then?

fortius54

I love Nintendo, but I really think they missed an opportunity with the Zelda Anniversary. I know some were really want Breath of the Wild 2, but I just didn’t think that was feasible considering the shutdown of the last year.

However, if you can put Mario 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy together, you could have done more than Skyward Sword. I know it’s HD, and that leaves room for Ocarina, Mask, and Windwaker, but if they were going to do that, it should have been announced as well.

I didn’t hate this Direct, but I didn’t love it either. For the life of me, I can’t understand where Prime Trilogy is. That alone tilts this Direct to Meh!

Re: Nintendo Shares Release Schedule For 2021 And Beyond, And It's Looking Pretty Bare

fortius54

I don’t think this will be all. It typically never is. I don’t expect a ton, but they’ll have a few more. While I don’t think it is likely we will get a BOTW2, I can see Zelda All-Stars (limited time of course). May get the Prime Trilogy, and at least one thing we are not expecting.

At some point, I expect a new Mario Kart. The are sitting on a gold mine with it. I would love an Ultimate version similar to Smash.

Re: Nintendo Reconfirms Release Windows For Major Switch Games, With Plenty Being 'TBA'

fortius54

While the list does contain some games I really want to play, Nintendo is going to need to give us an idea of the future.

With Nintendo 3D World, they will be real close to being out of ports. While BotW2 and Metroid 4 are definite purchase, they’d both need to be next year for it to be considered a good year IMO.

Here’s to hoping they have something up their sleeve in 2021.

Re: Feature: Best Nintendo Wii Games

fortius54

It’s hard to get to angry over a list like this. For instance, Zack and Wiki was one of my favorite games, but not everyone was exposed to it. I feel ashamed to say I’ve not played some of the ones on this list.

It was fun running through the list. In fact, I guess I missed a page because I missed Muramasa: The Demon Blade, and that was a great game. If I were to have casted my vote for it, it could have went higher,

Re: Zelda-Esque Oceanhorn 2 Brings Its "Epic" Open-World Adventure To Switch This Month

fortius54

I actually enjoyed this on Switch. I understand where people get it feeling like a mobile title, but it had some meat to it. For the price, I wasn’t disappointed.

Of course, this brings me to this title, and price is likely to keep this from being a day one purchase. I just don’t see me dropping $30 on this. I know it will most likely get a huge discount around Christmas.

I’ll wait for that like I did the first one.

Re: Pikmin 3 Deluxe Officially Announced For Switch, Includes All DLC And New Content

fortius54

@Dringo Oh, I completely agree that the company is in good shape. They have an incredible amount of cash on hand with little to know debt. I can even understand the fact of kicking some titles to next year considering the current situation, but they need to give their consumers something to look forward to.

We are not hearing anything from them. The best we get comes from the rumor mill. It's not a good marketing plan. They have a difficult time maintaining momentum, and too often, it is more of an internal problem than an external.

Pikmin 3 while a great game doesn't light much of a fire under anyone. It's another remaster. Meanwhile, June comes and goes with no news of games. July comes and goes with no news of games. I guess we just wait and see if the August rumor of a mainline Direct will take place.

Re: Pikmin 3 Deluxe Officially Announced For Switch, Includes All DLC And New Content

fortius54

So, it is becoming grossly apparent that Nintendo was the most impacted by COVID. I love them. I’ve owned just about every system they have had, and I really enjoy the Switch.

However, Animal Crossing aside this has been a miserable year for them. Two remasters, board games, and a Paper Mario is what we are looking at.

They skipped the whole virtual E3 thing. They can’t restock their console. No mention of any new games. The rumors we’ve heard have all been for new versions of old stuff.

The saving grace is they can lean on the pandemic, but come November, their competitors are trotting out new hardware. They are running out of time to put something together.

I’m disappointed. I love them, but I don’t like them very much right now.

Re: Poll: No, Really, What Was Nintendo's Worst Year?

fortius54

I wouldn’t call 2021 a bad year for games. I think like everyone else Nintendo was blindsided by all of this COVID junk. They have not communicated with their fans very well, but when have they ever done that?

The year isn’t over. I’m sure they have some plans, but they will need to do better than the Mini Direct. They at least need to give us an idea of what to expect in the second half of the year.

Re: Sega's Game Gear Micro Was Originally Going To Be Even More Stingy

fortius54

Bless their hearts! They try to be relevant, but they just are not. Every good idea they have gets lost in the implementation. I would be out on this one no matter how many games. I'm just too old to try to play on a screen that small, and years of gaming have cramped my hands enough to where there is no way that could be comfortable.

Re: Paper Mario Is Coming To Switch! Paper Mario: The Origami King To Launch This July

fortius54

I know this is such a first world problem, but I really miss the Direct. I am glad that Nintendo tossed us a bone, but I like them lining these reveals up and just spending 30 minutes going one right after another.

With this reveal, it feels like that this will be the Nintendo-norm throughout this time period. I know it doesn't matter in the vast scheme of things, but I really did enjoy this time of the year for the Directs.

Re: A Nintendo Direct In June Is Beginning To Seem Less And Less Likely

fortius54

I am a little torn. I understand why they aren’t making an announcement. Typically, they do not have much in The June/July time frame. This should give them a month or two and still hit the games they have for the second half of the year.

However, if these Mario rumors are true, They should be able to give us something. I mean we are going to get quite a bit of news from XBox. PlayStation has been giving us something.

Re: The Retail Release Of The Wonderful 101: Remastered Has Been Delayed

fortius54

I'm not mad that we get the game for a little more than others. I look at it as those dollars helped this game get made period. Plus, have they determined if the stretch goals will be available in the retail copies? Backers get that stuff for backing the game.

However, I do question the distribution of Steam codes to everyone as opposed to just giving us the code of the preferred system. That is a little lazy.

Re: We Won't Get A Nintendo Direct This June For E3, Says Report

fortius54

If I'm not mistaken, Nintendo typically doesn't bring a lot out in the June or July months. They can afford to kick this down the road a bit.

I know people are talking about a next-gen Switch, but I can't see Nintendo doing this considering the fact you can't find a Switch anywhere. In fact, this may push the next upgrade out a year further.

As for games, I agree with many on here that Nintendo did not have a lot to show here for the remainder of the year. 3D World will show up, and if the rumors are true with the other Remasters, this could get them through the end of the year.

However if we get past this virus thing in late summer, Nintendo could forfeit more share of the market than it would have if it had a holiday game.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The Nintendo Direct Mini?

fortius54

It was okay. If this update gets us to what would have been E3, it will suffice. I was expecting a big surprise that might give us an idea of what the show floor would have been themed. I guess that in the current state of the world there is a possibility the games that we would have had at the end of the year might have trouble making the date. I don’t know. It was an okay Direct.

Re: Animal Crossing Direct Announced for 20th February

fortius54

I wouldn’t be surprised if we did receive some sort of surprise at the end of this Direct especially if there isn’t another one soon. They will need to have something to fit into that AprilMay slot even if it is just a port of something like Super Mario Nintendo 3DS World.

Re: Expect Game Announcements "Throughout The Year", Says Nintendo

fortius54

worries me that there won’t be any kind of Direct for new games this first quarter. They put the timeline out last week. They’ve held the Pokémon Direct. I imagine there will be a March Direct, but it will be for Animal Crossing. I’m think that we will not get a Direct in February. I dare Nintendo to prove me wrong. 😉

Re: Feature: Nintendo's 2019 - A Cracking Year In Review

fortius54

2019 was certainly a year for pop culture in general. Marvel and Star Wars ended arcs. Nintendo had a bang up year. The announcements of Xbox Series X and the PS5. The list could just go on.

How does 2020 come close to matching it? I'm not sure the theaters can, but the world of video games should be okay.

I'm actually looking more forward to Animal Crossing than I ever have. This first Direct will give us an idea of what to expect for the year. Will we have an idea of what will dominate E3? So much suspense.

Re: Talking Point: What's Happened To Switch's NES And SNES Games, Nintendo?

fortius54

This is just pitiful. I knew they’d turn their back on it when they announced they were leaving the monthly drop. They announced and dropped the SNES, and they’ve done nothing.

NES was already an afterthought in North America. I forgot to turn my subscription off or I’d have probably skipped it. Its just not worth it at this point.

Re: Nintendo Will "Continue To Enhance" Switch Online Content, To Encourage More Users To Try The Service

fortius54

Tetris 99 is certainly a bright spot, but the NES and SNES Online has fizzled our. I’m a Nintendo apologist, but even I think they continue to drop the ball with the online offerings.

They’ve all but forgotten the app which isn’t necessarily bad, but the abrupt decision to for go the moNthly additional titles is not a good sign. We’ve seen Nintendo do things like this time and again.

If it’s off the schedule, it out of their thoughts. Not another single NES or SNES game has been added since the decision was made. There are a ton of SNES titles that could be added but it hasn’t happened.

Re: PlayStation 4 Just Overtook Wii's Lifetime Sales

fortius54

Props to Sony for taking the problems they faced in the last generation, listening to the consumer, and creating a solid system. I appreciate the fact that the console war isn't really that anymore. They are coexisting quite well which should lead to even better and more original content going forward.

I'm not surprised it surpassed the Wii. The only aside I would give would be the profitability of the console. Every single Wii sold made a profit. I'm not sure that can be said about the PS4. However, I have not paid near enough attention to that number.

I do not actually own a PS4. Since the PS5 announcement coupled with my ever growing backlog, I think I will wait especially considered backwards compatibility.

Re: Two More NES Games Join The Nintendo Switch Online Service In August

fortius54

I’ve stopped worrying about what Nintendo is releasing on the NES App. I’ll give you the fact that $20 is cheap to play online, but the extra benefits are an after thought to these guys. I seriously do not think they give a ton of thought into what they are releasing. One dude says on Tuesday, “ How about we just do Kung Fu Heroes?”

Re: Dr. Mario World Launches A Day Earlier Than Expected, Out Now On iOS And Android

fortius54

This is a solid mobile game. You don't have to pay anything to get through the game just fine. Nintendo's hands are tied. Some people do not want to drop $10 on a mobile game while others will get irritated at microtransactions.

The only complaint I have is the initial screen takes a while to load. I can't figure that one out, but if that is as bad as it gets, I think this has a great future.
