Ratalaika Games has revealed that its upcoming vertical shmup FullBlast will arrive on Switch next week.
We heard about this one's imminent arrival just a couple of weeks ago, but now we can finally give you lovely readers a confirmed release date. FullBlast will be available on Switch on 7th September - just a couple of days behind other consoles - and will be priced at €5.99.
If you missed the news last time, this game is inspired by titles from the '80s and '90s, but aims to use modern technology and visuals to attract a new generation of players. Ratalaika states that, while it features classic shmup mechanics, FullBlast "is not a bullet hell game, it is a fast-paced action game, but more like the old classics".
Here are some of the game's features and a collection of lovely screenshots.
Features:
- Gorgeous 3D graphics
- Story campaign of 12 levels
- 2 player local co-op mode
- Power-ups and power-downs (be careful of what you pick!!
- 4 Mini bosses and 3 Mega bosses

It doesn't look retro. It give me more of a comic-style vibe, which is really nice. I like the plain text "Boom" when you kill an enemy
I like the graphics, the local co-op and that it's not "a bullet hell game".
Nice and bright version of this kind of game.
FullBlast "is not a bullet hell game, it is a fast-paced action game, but more like the old classics".
That wins points from me... I like shmups, but I don't enjoy bullet hell in particular. Co-op is a winner too. I'm torn on the graphics as they seem a tad... goofy/silly? I dunno. I'll need to know more in time.
Will pick this up. Whilst don’t mind bullet hell I prefer the less overwhelming titles of old. Although I would have preferred a pixel based art style.
The description almost makes it sound like “new gamers” wouldn’t even take a look if it used old style graphics? Sadly there may be some truth to that statement.
Speaking of classic style shooters, I wish we could get Crisis Force once they start releasing NES games.
Looks great and I echo comments above, love shooters don’t like bullet hell.
I’m in for bullet buffet but not bullet hell
Be nice if NL could add a wishlist button and save to your profile. I’m not always close to my Switch when reading this site.
This was on the Wii U. Wasn't that impressed.
I would recommend Ghost Blade HD instead (hopefully gets a Switch release).
@Giygas_95 Oh ya, Crisis Force or Gun Nac or any number of those NES shooters that we’ll sadly, probably never see rereleased
I had this on the Wii U. It was okay for the price, but it’s certainly not worth buying again. I enjoy my Switch, but everyday I get on here only to see another port.
@NinChocolate At least we got Recca on 3DS...
Looks pretty cool.
I can totally imagine some of the classic shmups being done like this for the modern era, like Super Aleste and U.N. Squadron for example--but only if they were done right.
I love these type of games. But this looks kinda cheap. It looks almost like a phone game.
I bought this a couple of weeks ago on Steam when I saw it was $5.99 in the US on Switch but on sale on Steam for $1.99. I bought it b/c it looked like Xevious but when playing it it almost has more of a Galaga feel as the ships come in waves and the graphics are a little more similar to that one.
The game is short, only 12 levels, but it had 3 difficulty options - easy, notmsl, hard - and when playing any of those in co-op on PC it ramped up the difficulty a bit to account for the extra ship, which was nice.
Considering how expensive most indie games are on Switch these dsys, $15 or $20 seems to be the norm, you probably won't get much better than this for $6. Caveat being 2 player with 2 Joycon. They really should release level 1 as a demo, it's fun.
Looks alright. I enjoyed the Sky Force games and this looks similar.
Looks like a nice throwback to classic shmups from the 90's. One of the greatest genres IMO: simple, yet addicting. Hopefully the horrible music in the trailer isn't in the game.
This reminds me a lot of Raiden, and I LOVE Raiden! =D

If you want a new and exclusive shmup for Switch, there are RXN -Raijin-, Quad Fighter K and the (currently) Japan-only Sisters Royale.
@NinChocolate @Giygas_95 @FX102A
I strongly recommend Quad Fighter K to anyone looking for a shmup with NES-like graphics.
Also, Hamster released Star Force, Terra Cresta, Omega Fighter and Argus in their Arcade Archives series on the Switch. Among these, i recommend Omega Fighter.
@EmirParkreiner I didn’t realize quad fighter had already come over here. Just downloaded it. Thanks!
