By now, most people have seen the Nintendo patten that was released this week that looked like a handheld with interchangeable pieces like d pads or analog sticks. It could be a 3DS with those capabilities. That would bring a resurgence in Kid Icarus Uprising.
Remember, we have also been promised the ability to use two game pads. We have yet to see this so it could be something along those lines. I cannot imagine it being any more than that.
I understand some people have their issues with GameStop. I am lucky enough to have an excellent one in my town. It is very well managed. They know their stuff most of the time.
I think in the business world this means going lean. You trim what you don't need, now. This helps you through the first round of a bad market. Most retailers do this in one form or another. For instance, a large store like Walmart might trim employee's hours just after the busy Christmas season. Other companies like GameStop in this case close stores that are not performing. I can guarantee that the stores that close are all in the red. I am sorry for the people who lose their jobs, but unfortunately, that is the nature of this economic beast we have created.
I think this is a step in the right direction. It would be great if they made new course holes available more. I think it would be great knowing that a title would add new content regularly. They could use the business model that Spin the Bottle uses. As you add more, early adopters get it for free, but the price slightly increases for new players.
I understand the disappointment from a business prospective. This is probably not a game I was going to get anyway. If I own a PS4 or X1, I probably won't pick it up either. The truth is, there isn't a shred of difference from Arkham Asylum to Arkham City. The games follow basically the same pattern.
I bought Asylum on the PS3 , and I have City for the Wii U. I honestly like the on the fly part of the Wii U, but ultimately, I got rather bored with the game story itself. I'm sorry that it's not coming for all of those fans.
I agree with a lot on here about the Wii U basically being a first party machine. I do think they would find some success in taking a we are a family console approach. Instead of trying to be all things to all gamers. I'd say push the family nature. Advertise like heck on Disney and Nickelodeon. Try to get second parties working on IP's that are gathering dust. Be kind to indies.
I think if they do that it will get them through this generation of consoles, albeit limping. They need to make a high octane system that will compete. Make it more traditional if you have to. Incorporate things like the gamepad as an add on. Start a archive subscription service. Then, I think they can get back on track.
I am inspired to crate my own zapper lamp. We are in the process of building a house, and I am back and forth on the theme of my office. Gamin and football are the two right now. I think what I will do is do football for the office and Gaming for the playroom.
Very good announcement. There was a dark time in my life where video games were not one of the most important things to me. I know. The horror. It was in that time this came on. I can now watch from the beginning as it was meant to be.
@BlackStar9000 I like those ideas. One, they will be exposing the characters to a new medium. Two, it opens up a new stream of income without cannibalizing the games these characters were built on. They could look at some of the old Game & Watch titles, update the graphics, and put them all on iOS or tablets. A second party could do any of this, and they wouldn't have to tie up any of their manpower.
There is a lot they can do, but in the end, these are their properties. The will ultimately do what they want. I will except it either way. I love my Wii U. I understand that there is not an over abundance of quality third party titles, but the first party stuff is spot on. There has been enough of that coupled with Infinity and Skylanders to keep my children and myself entertained. It also seems to be picking up plenty of steam from the Indie side.
I understand Nintendo's position on why they do not want to go mobile. I for one don't want to play a traditional Mario game with virtual buttons. In the end, I think it would do more harm than good. The idea of having a loyal customer pay for a guy to go a little higher is utterly ridiculous. It should be enough to lose that idiot his job.
I can also however see why these investors are wanting to see mobile Nintendo happen. There is a lot of money in it, and it is not going away anytime soon. If Nintendo were to choose to do this, the experience would need to be unique to the mobile experience much like Sonic Dash. I think the Wii Play or the Wii Party type games would work. They are short mini experiences that really aren't worth more than a couple of bucks. So I say, if they do go mobile, they need to completely separate those games from their current library of games.
I hope the do not go racing. The dude said its a game changer, and a kart game is not a game changer. In fact, it's kind of a step back. Even Shrek had a Kart racing game. I like the idea of stand alone adventures per element, but I think they said they would not do that...bummer.
From a profitability standpoint, I think the figures are the way to go. I'll be honest. We have Infinity, and everything is great about except for the blind pack power discs. I hate those things. I love the concept, but I hate the fact that there are so few of those stupid things in each series that you get countless double. At $5 per pack, that can be infuriating.
@adamical I agree completely with you. Imagine playing this online with someone else. It would be a gold mine. When they originally announced built in NFC technology, I thought that Pokemon was what they were bringing, and they did. However, they completely struck out. They could announce this at E3, and it would steal the show. Deal is they already have hundreds of characters to work with.
Activision might want to be careful with this property. I love Skylanders, but they could be in danger of becoming to gimmicky. Swap Force characters have already taxed the limit to what I am willing to pay, and I have at the moment at least one version of he characters from Adventure and Giants.
I don't think the general public would appreciate having to buy yet another portal. I don't think a $17 vehicle on top of the regular figures is something the public wants to see either.
I have to say I was disappointed with yesterday as well. I think if they are out to fix the Wii U problem, they didn't do a very good job. I will agree it was heavy on 3DS. Of course, Nintendo did say to the shareholders that 3DS was going to drive profits. Honestly, I think that entire direct was for the benefit of the shareholders.
If they truly do want to turn the fortunes of the Wii U arouond, I would suggest they blow everyone's doors off at the E3. If they are not working on multiple first party games they better start. Don't get me wrong, I love the Wii U. I will continue to buy first party, and it will be my go to console for all the family games. However, it would be nice for others to jump on board.
I don't know what to say about he Direct. Everything they showed looked amazing, but outside of "X", it really wasn't anything we haven't seen before. NES Mix 2 seems like a money grab to me. This was heavy on the 3DS.
I just don't think Nintendo delivered on this one. To be a 40 minute show, I don't think they hit what they were aiming at. Of course, this is just two weeks after the numbers, and it may have been more of a showcase for theshareholders than the consumers. The only bad thing is we have to most likely wait until E3.
They had better knock everyone's socks off at E3 this year. I guess there could be an outside possibility of the licensing announcements at the upcoming Toy Fair. I don't know I would say color me disappointed on this Direct.
I still think licensing the properties for comics to someone like Archie would go over pretty good. They have proven they can handle it with Sonic and now Megaman.
It's pretty sad someone actually paid them for this study. Anyone in their right mind would know the results of this study long before it ever began. For my next study, I would like to prove that eating chocolate for every me is bad for your teeth if you choose not to brush afterwards. I need a million dollars for this study.
@antipop621 I completely agree with you on this one. Out of all the licensing Sega has done with Sonic, comics have been the most successful. It would be nothing for Archie Comics to take these IPs and run with them.
Megaman from Archie is the only thing we get right now to quench our thirst for the Blue Bomber. I think this is an excellent idea. If Nintendo wants to increase the exposure of their IPs especially in the west, they need to do this immediately.
@ACK I guess I am having a hard time understanding this post. You are ashamed of the community in one post, but then, you tell me that if I do not like opinions to go back to playing games. Those in the community are just expressing their opinions. Why should we then be ashamed?
Most comments I make on this site are relegated to the light-hearted entertainment variety. I wished all did that. I wished all could set aside political or social differences and just enjoy the game for what it is...a game. That is basically what I am trying to get at.
I play video games for pure enjoyment. It is the same reason I watch movies. I try to stay way from most things political in both of those entertainment categories. I just want a fun game. There is enough controversial junk going on in the world. I do not need it in my forms of entertainment.
I don't care if the hero is a woman, man, hedgehog, or marble. I just want big dumb fun. That is all I am in it for. Please leave your political views at the door. On the flip side, I don't want someone fired until they have proving to me they can't do what I'm asking.
With 22 oft he top 25 games since 2001 being played on their system, maybe everyone will finally realize that despite a small bump Nintendo has plenty in cash reserves.
I haven't played it yet, but people have talked about 9,9,9 and Virtues last reward. I thought they were some sort of survival type games, and they received great reviews.
EA's problems with the Wii U are not anyone's fault but EA's. They have not even come close to supporting the Wii U like they said they would, and that started from the beginning. By porting over the previous years inferior mainstays like Madden and FIFA, they did not exactly get off on the right foot.
There is no doubt that they could use a decent marketing push. I think that should leverage the family with the marketing. You are not goin to ever have a Wii U game rated M that is going to be a huge seller on the system. Other need to embrace the fact that they will be a family system, and market to that. I think that is what they are doing for the most part. They just need to do more of it.
I wouldbe willing to play for some sort of subscription service that would make available the entire library of the classic games and systems. I would demand off screen play though.😄
I think this is a pretty good deal. As for the Basic system, it shouldn't matter too much. You will just need a hard drive a little quicker. Either way you go, you have to pick one up eventually.
This new online mode moved this game on to my list of wants. The problem is there is just to many titles and not enough money. I actually do not mind that DKR was pushed to February.
I don't think the price is too high. I am actually looking forward to this. A big yes for tennis and bowling. Golf and baseball most likely. I will probably stay away from boxing. If they move to Resort, I am in trouble.
I completely agree. They have to have a National Ad Campaign starting last week. It needs to be along the same lines as their "Now Your Playing With Power!" Campaign. The deal is if they want the casual gamer to purchase, they need to step out of the normal places where you find gamers. I know a lot of people on here hated the " I am not a gamer" ads they did with the girl from Glee and Gabbie Douglas. However, the 3DS is killing it right now. It was not designed for you or me. The same thing needs to be done for the Wii U.
In Galaxy, the second player could also shoot stars at the enemies to stun them. It wasn't soon a whole lot, but when I'm the second player and the kids are playing I can help them out. That works pretty good.
I think ultimately, I would like it if Nintendo and I guess the fans to some extent recognize the fact Nintendo doesn't have to be in competition with Sony and Microsoft. I thought that was the position they were trying to take until Reggie kind of mouthed off. I have a PS3 and a Wii U. I had a PS3 and a Wii before that. The Nintendo games are so distinctly different than what you might play on the other systems that it would not be a hard sell.
Don't get me wrong. You would certainly have to try to sell it which is another area that I feel Nintendo has grossly under utilized. The Wii U commercials did not start coming out until about a week before the console launched. They have little to no advertising outside of Directs for games. At e heir of their popularity, you were always seeing the "Now You're Playing with Power" ads, and that was before we had whole stations dedicated to nothing but children's entertainment.
@unrandomsam I understand where you are coming from. I know that fans aren't the only ones to blame. I do not usually get games on the initial release with the exception of a preorder exclusive I can't live without. From the post, it just amazes me that we always seem to chase our tails on one thing or the other, and again, I know I am as much to blame as any one.
Just a few days ago, one of the posters made a statement on these comments that Nintendo needed new IPs for them to start taking back market share. I just found it humorous that this is a new IP, and it is not selling much. I paralleled this with the argument concerning third parties, but I was also sure to blame third parties because they do it as well.
For instance,Bethesda comes out this week and says well it is Nintendo's fault that we do not make games for their system because they didn't work close enough with or whatever this weeks excuse is. However, I can almost bet my Wii U that their big idea would have been to bring out a Wii U version of Skyrim.
@ScroogeMcLz I agree completely. People get on here and talk about needing new IPs, and when they get one, they do not support it. It was just a week or two ago that people could not understand why they only shipped 30,000 units. The gaming community on occasion reminds me a lot of the comic book community. No offense to us Nintendo fans and I count myself in this, but we want more third party developers. However, we do not do a good job of aupporting third party titles. Of course, third party developers need to do better than porting old games. It gets frustrating.
There was no price drop to announce either so I went out, made my purchase, and I got a surprise this week. I'm not saying that angry. I'm just saying that just because there is nothing to say about that today doesn't mean there will be nothing to say about it next week.
I hope this game is supported. It looks amazing. It has so much to compete with this fall though. I am glad Nintendo gave it its own Direct, but there is just so much out there this fall. I think if they could have released it in the launch window it would have performed so much better, but I am keeping my fingers crossed.
Leapster has been making a ton of money for years off of his segment of the market, and there games are a lot weaker than what Nintendo is going to come out with.
I think Wayforward is one of this generations great platform builders. There is not a whole lot they do that I do not like. I know everyone enjoys the Arkham Series, but there take on Brave and the Bold was pretty good.
I am so glad I picked this up on the Wii U and not the PS3. It is so much easier changing weapons on the fly with the gamepad. It makes a world of difference.
@Icefreak45 You are exactly right. For the mom and dad, Nintendo has the name recognition, and now, they will have a more affordable system than the perceived competition. Nintendo really needs to market hard to these parents. They do not need to count on the game stores to push their product. They need National Advertising beginning in late September, and they need to run it through Christmas just like they did the old "Now, Your Playing with Power" ads when I was a kid.
I guess you can call me a Nintendo Nut or too much of a family man, but I just like the Nintendo games. I like the family aspect of it. I have two kids, 8 and 5. I feel safe, with the exception of Bayonetta 2, that my kids can play most Nintendo games. The first party stuff is all top notch family friendly, and a lot of the third party games, Infinity and Sonic Lost World, also fit in that category. I'm happy with the Wii U despite its rather light list of games, and I still have Wii games to get through. I can do this all with one system.
I do have a PS3, and there are games I enjoy on it, but in the end, there just isn't a lot of innovation from one game to the next. There first party stuff is good for the most part, but again, its not overly innovative. Most of the third party stuff plays predominately the same, first person or third person. Again, I like a lot of their games, but I prefer Nintendo. I guess I'll just always be a Fan Boy.
@Unit_DTH hey thanks. I was wondering where e registration for that was. I had already bought a couple of things on eShop so I am a little closer to $5. I have not messed with the friends request, yet, but I will definitely get on that. Thanks again!
Just my luck. I bought the Wii U 2 weeks ago. Oh well, I'm having fun with it. I guess that is just the way the old ball bounces. If we get a little extra as far as games go, I'll take it. If we don't I'll be okay. I'm not done playing through what I have.
I have been back and forth on this title. When it first came out, I was all in. Then, I heard that the gameplay portion of the adventures ranged from 8 to ten hours, and that seemed a little short to me with the price tag attached. I mean the extra play sets are $40 a piece. Then, I watched Toy Box Mode, and it put me back on the train.
If Toy Box Mode does what it says it can do, this will be a great game. I can just see people spending hours upon hours on this. Now that you can upload you content to the cloud and download other peoples, the adventure piece seems like an aside.
As for the playsets, I, too, would like to see more nostalgic characters, but I understand who the game is aimed for. It makes sense for them to start with the newer groups. However, as much as I really do not care for the Cars playset, you have to have it to get the Toy Box pieces. Curse them for being so dang smart.

Re: Child of Light Co-Op Element Takes Inspiration From Super Mario Galaxy, Yet Aims For Better
In Galaxy, the second player could also shoot stars at the enemies to stun them. It wasn't soon a whole lot, but when I'm the second player and the kids are playing I can help them out. That works pretty good.
Re: Talking Point: With Calls for Nintendo to Follow the Crowd, It Faces a Dilemma
@Mytoemytoe if it is Sony proprietary memory it might cost $40.
Re: The Wii U Continues to Struggle in Japanese Charts
Re: The Wii U Continues to Struggle in Japanese Charts
Re: The Wii U Continues to Struggle in Japanese Charts
@ScroogeMcLz I agree completely. People get on here and talk about needing new IPs, and when they get one, they do not support it. It was just a week or two ago that people could not understand why they only shipped 30,000 units. The gaming community on occasion reminds me a lot of the comic book community. No offense to us Nintendo fans and I count myself in this, but we want more third party developers. However, we do not do a good job of aupporting third party titles. Of course, third party developers need to do better than porting old games. It gets frustrating.
Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Reiterates That There's "Nothing to Announce in Terms of an Ambassador Program"
There was no price drop to announce either so I went out, made my purchase, and I got a surprise this week. I'm not saying that angry. I'm just saying that just because there is nothing to say about that today doesn't mean there will be nothing to say about it next week.
Re: Interview: Hideki Kamiya on The Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2 and Working With Nintendo
I hope this game is supported. It looks amazing. It has so much to compete with this fall though. I am glad Nintendo gave it its own Direct, but there is just so much out there this fall. I think if they could have released it in the launch window it would have performed so much better, but I am keeping my fingers crossed.
Re: Feature: The Biggest Wii U Games of 2013 - Autumn / Fall Edition
There are too many games and not enough money.
Re: Round Table: Let's Talk About the 2DS and Wii U Price Cut
Leapster has been making a ton of money for years off of his segment of the market, and there games are a lot weaker than what Nintendo is going to come out with.
Re: Mighty Switch Force! 2 Aiming to Bring the Heat to Wii U in October
I think Wayforward is one of this generations great platform builders. There is not a whole lot they do that I do not like. I know everyone enjoys the Arkham Series, but there take on Brave and the Bold was pretty good.
Re: Disney Infinity Producer Outlines The Features Available To Wii U Players
I am so glad I picked this up on the Wii U and not the PS3. It is so much easier changing weapons on the fly with the gamepad. It makes a world of difference.
Re: Wii U Deluxe Model Gets Official $50 Price Cut in North America
@Icefreak45 You are exactly right. For the mom and dad, Nintendo has the name recognition, and now, they will have a more affordable system than the perceived competition. Nintendo really needs to market hard to these parents. They do not need to count on the game stores to push their product. They need National Advertising beginning in late September, and they need to run it through Christmas just like they did the old "Now, Your Playing with Power" ads when I was a kid.
Re: Wii U Deluxe Model Gets Official $50 Price Cut in North America
Re: Wii U Deluxe Model Gets Official $50 Price Cut in North America
@Unit_DTH hey thanks. I was wondering where e registration for that was. I had already bought a couple of things on eShop so I am a little closer to $5. I have not messed with the friends request, yet, but I will definitely get on that. Thanks again!
Re: Wii Party U Dated, Will Come Bundled With a Wii Remote Plus Controller
I'm on this one. Between this and the Skylanders, Infinity, and the first-party stuff, I'm not going to have a dime left to my name.
Re: Wii U Deluxe Model Gets Official $50 Price Cut in North America
Just my luck. I bought the Wii U 2 weeks ago. Oh well, I'm having fun with it. I guess that is just the way the old ball bounces. If we get a little extra as far as games go, I'll take it. If we don't I'll be okay. I'm not done playing through what I have.
Re: Asda Stores No Longer Stocking New Wii U Systems or Games
Could it be they may be clearing out area for new SKUs. Maybe they are getting ready fora cheaper console.
Re: First Impressions: Disney Infinity
