@GravyThief I completely agree. They have already said the brains of this thing is in the tablet part. There fore it would make sense for that to be the other bundle.
There were rumors that there could be a successor on the way to 3DS. This could be it after they find a battery that will last longer than the supposed three hours the Switch lasts.
@capitalism I have been around since the NES day, I have two consoles. I play the Wii U way more, but when I'm ready to release a little frustration to keep me from going off on somebody, I fire up the PlayStation and clean house.
Now, with that said, I will most likely stick with just the Switch.
I think the numbers will come a little better than expected. They say they built Pokémon GO in, but no one expected that revenue for that game would be at $600 million. Niantic was only expecting about 20 percent of what it has done.
The GO Plus is selling out. The Classic isn't going to have an impact until next quarter.
Okay, the last thing I need is for Nintendo to do this with the Switch. I am such a sucker for these things. I would pick up any of these except maybe the GameCube and N64.
First, not everyone is going to like an idea. Those people are going to be vocal about it, but I wouldn't say you can blame the drop in share prices on investors not liking the product.
The sell off is called profit taking. If you will notice the day before, their was a drastic increase. This is the speculators taking the money they made and getting out.
I'm sure there is quite a bit of stuff that no one is telling us. I like the look of the system. I will buy it day 1.
Despite what they are saying now, I would bet that this is going to phase out 3DS by year 2. If they can then sell 60 million of these, I think Nintendo will be pleased.
The frustration I have with Nintendo is they seem to refuse to follow up on strong momentum. They did a really good job at E3 this year despite having just the one game. Then, there is nothing from them.
Pokémon GO blows up. They go out of their way to distance themselves from the app. The app did 50 times (literally) what they thought it would do, but Nintendo says they had already built this into their revenue.
Finally, they shock the world with the NES Classic Edition. Everyone loves it. Yet, here we are about a month from release, and you can't even preorder it in North America.
It just seems like they are constantly looking to grasped defeat from the jaws of victory.
@erv In the past Vivendi has been a train wreck. Acticision-Blizzad went through something similar a few years back with them. If I remember correctly. Vivendi attempted to make a play for the cash that A/B had built up. They ended up buying back a lot of their own shares to prevent it.
As for the NX, excitement is beginning to die down for me. If they intended to wait this long, Iawata should have never said anything. We've been on the hook too long.
As much as I would love to see the NX this week, I don't think we will sera thing until after Color Splash launches. Note: This is a feeble attempt I daring Nintendo to prove me wrong.
Nintendo just needs to get the message out and deliver it in a way that shows the consumer what the NX is. The marketing department has to step up and do a better job than they did with the Wii U.
The tell kids in sports you can't just show up and win. You have to practice. It seems like after the Wii, Nintendo expected to put the Wii name on it, roll it out on the market, and expect fans to gobble it up. It didn't happen.
Now, they are telling us all the right things this time. Let's hope they've learned from that mistake.
I think it's a good mood bringing Mario out before AC and FE. It's okay to push them back especially if they are a more fleshed out game.
I'm okay with this. It's really nothing more than a commercial for their consoles, and if it helps generate more money that's okay. I'm pretty sure it will enjoy some early success.
I'm not sure why Walmart ever has exclusives on anything. A lot of times around here you will walk into the store the day something is to come out, and they won't even have it on the shelves, yet. They will just put it out when they feel like it.
@aaronsullivan Sure, you and I saw all of this, but Nintendo rely heavily on a wider audience than those that attend E3. Admittedly, I am one of the biggest Nintendo apologists out there, but they did not market the Wii U or the gamepad functionality to the audience they needed to.
The only nationwide marketing campaign for the Wii U began on the front-end of movie trailers just a couple of weeks prior to launch. By contrast, the 3DS campaign with named actors ran on television and the internet.
The single biggest issue with the Wii U was that Nintendo did a rotten job marketing it. They didn't start trying to explain what it was until just a few weeks before it released.
I guess they though they could put "Wii" in the title, and it would sell itself. There is nothing wrong with the gamepad. In fact, I prefer using it most of the time. That certainly isn't what made the Wii U flop.
I love Nintendo and their products, but my fear is they are going to do the same with the NX. We are supposedly seven months away from launch, and they have said nothing.
I can guarantee that Nintendo didn't expect this. The stock has been beaten back. It might be a good buy. With the latest projections having GO hit $1 billion by the end of the year, Nintendo stands to make around $300 million.
I agree that Niantic should have been a little more forthcoming with information. However, there is a possibility they have been trying to wrap their heads around what is going on.
No one had any idea how popular this game was going to be. There was no way to test for this. The only game that comes close to this type of game is Ingress, and it pales in comparison to GO.
I enjoy Pokemon GO, but my time in it usually consists of when I am out exercising. I do not have the pleasure or time to hunt for Pokemon due to my job.
I also don't know a lot about servers and things like that. However, if Niantic is being truthful about sites like PokeVision effecting the servers by all means, shut them down.
The idea though of writing an open letter is disingenuous. He knew the reaction he was after. I wrote a response so I guess I played into it, but I am certainly not going to weep for him.
This knocks Disney as a whole down to me. My family loves Disney. Sure their big business, but this effectively kills all of the money spent from families across the globe.
At the very least, this would have allowed for new content. Sure it was fan generated, but that's what made it fun. Now nothing.
There is still a lot left that will be added. I will still be playing. In fact, it will be so much better to play when it cools off. It's hot and humid where I live.
If Nintendo insisted on exploring Quality of Life opportunities, I think they would be better off partnering with someone already in the market. Sleep monitoring doesn't really interest me.
I would be interested in maybe partnering with Fitbit on the Wii Fit NX. I still use my Wii Fit pedometer. I hope to finish the Tour of Italy before the end of the year.
I actually own the Retro Freak, and I have own a Retro Duo in the past. One thing these companies can't get right is the controller. The Freak is pretty close, but the duo wasn't very good at all.
If this is going to have any life to it, they definitely need to pay attention to the controller
I don't think you will see online trading or online battling any time soon. I am pretty sure the trading referred to is at the local level. It would defeat the purpose to do anything online. The whole point is for you to get out and do something.
That is s pretty surprising announcement. I'm more in it for the controller, but that should make plenty of money on it.
I have the Retro Freak so I probably won't purchase this. If they would have added the cartridge port though, I would've put one in every room of my house.
I really do think the problem with Mighty No. 9 was the lack of openness with the community of supporters. Half-Genie Hero has missed, but Wayforward has been forthright with information. The same came be said for Yooka-laylee.
The team behind Mighty No. 9 claims that the hold up was online leaderboards. Then, they try to find another game. Not to mention, the stark contrast between final game graphics and concept art that so many here have pointed out.
I supported Mighty No. 9 and Half-Genie Hero, but I have been reluctant to find anything since. I understand these games are labor of love, but I have to think in some situations these problems could have been avoided.
I really enjoy this game. I play a level at a time. I spend about 20 minutes at a time. It's a fine game and well worth the money. It is my favorite twin stick shooter to date.
Sure Vivendi was there for the Activision/Blizzarrd boom, but Activision/Blizzard got out of it because Vivendi was bleeding money wanting to tap in to A/V's cash. They were more of a problem than a solution.
@ThanosReXXX Right again. Your on fire, today. One needn't look any further than Apple to see that you do not need a long lead time to build hype for a product.
@ThanosReXXX Good point. I think if the NX does have a mobile component to it, it will be a system that is designed to play mobile games and double as a controller for the home console. I don't see any other way for it to be anything other than that and stay at an affordable price.
@HSuzumiyaVI Of course, I don't have any evidence to back this up. If I did, I'd be getting paid to say things like this. However, I don't think that Nintendo is going to one up Sony or Microsoft. They are not in it for that, and I am okay with it.
My Wii U is still being played just as much this month (60 hours) as it was played the first month I bought it three years ago. If I'm wrong and they come out with the be all system at an affordable price, I will gladly take an 'I told you so' from everyone on here. I just don't think it will happen.
I would bet good money that the NX doesn't hold the specs of the PlayStation 4, let alone the Neo. I think Nintendo is willing to give top-of-the-line type systems up. I think Nintendo moves in a direction to try to take a larger share of the mobile game market.
I think you will get the most powerful set-top box out (Apple TV, Fire TV, or Roku). I think there will be a portable component strikingly similar to the phone we all carry around. I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see Nintendo partner with Sony to make the PlayStation Vue streaming package part of the system.
After Fils-Aimes comments last week, I just don't see a super powerful system, and it doesn't have to be. Most first party Nintendo games aren't more than 7 or 8 gbs.
I know this would never happen, and it is totally wishful thinking, but I wish Nintendo would take part of that $5.5 to $6 billion of cash and buy either some or all of the Capcom IP. I would like for Miyamoto to head a team working on Mega Man.
@zool I understand the position you may take in selling, but there are other variables when it comes to owning stock. Nintendo is a cash rich company. It has relatively no debt. So debt to equity is off the charts good.
While the forecast for Wii U isn't significant, they just added $600 million in cash with the sale of there stake in the Mariners. That will put the company close to $6 billion in cash.
Effectively, they could shut down for the rest of the year and still show a profit. I think Wall Street would at the worst put a hold on them.
This kind of fits into my wheelhouse. Once upon a time it was my job to study thing like this, and while I was disappointed initially, I completely understand what Nintendo with just one exception.
Generally following announcements like this, you will see a fall in stock price. You have to understand. Companies stock value falls even if they meet expectations. It is only natural that after these announcement you would see a fall for Nintendo.
All that said, Nintendo is basically mailing in the first six to eight months of the next fiscal. Now the sale of the Seattle Mariners could generate them as much as $600 million in cash. That coupled with the $5 billion they have in cash on hand, Nintendo should be find, and quite likely they will show a profit despite the thin software lineup.
The one exception I have to Nintendo strategies is the delaying of Zelda. I would have probably just move this to the NX. I don't think the install base of Wii U is enough to warrant much of a backlash. I understand that they promised Zelda for Wii U, but they also promised Zelda for Wii U this year so how much face are they really saving?
I think the 3DS will run the same course as other handhelds from Nintendo. It helps that Pokemon Sun and Moon are dropping, but I think we all expected that The Pokemon Company would draw from the existing user base.
It will be difficult to get too excited about any third party games. I can't imagine unannounced titles being anymore than a game like Snoopy Adventure or some other game that is nothing more than a commercial.
I imagine the Wii U will get another Just Dance game. Indies will probably develop for it a little longer, but at this point, I don't even know what the point is to bring Zelda out other than the fact of them just keeping their promise.
@MysteryAozz I had forgotten that they had the trading card game in Japan. This maybe what they try. Their version of Hearthstone. There is potential there. 👍
Animal Crossing is made for mobile in my opinion. If I had it on my phone, I wouldn't be typing a comment in right now, I would be playing. The biggest issue I have with New Leaf or City Folk is getting the system out or booted up for just a few minutes of action.
I don't think it will be a full on AC game though. It might be a part of a larger game that would allow you to finish tasks on mobile so when you are ready to dig deeper into the game you can do that.
As for Fire Emblem, I'm not Sure where they will go with it. I think I read that the idea was to make a Fire Emblem game that was more accessible to mainstream. I just don't know how they will accomplish that.
I will pick this up. I won't play it. I'm terrible. I have a back log of over a 100 games I need to finish, but I just keep buying more. It's a sickness I tell you.
My initial reaction off of this was negative, but that had more to do with me wanting the system than anything else. With this said, I think the NX is going to be different than what we think in a traditional Nintendo console or handheld.
It may be smart to move this to March launch. By then, mobile should be where it's going to be. They will have the opportunity to tie in their IP to more media (TV and movies). Maybe that is what they are going for.
I think the big deal this holiday season will be a price cut to at least the Wii U and most likely the 3DS.
I feel somewhat prophetic on this one. Just last night, I booked a trip to Disney World at the end of the year for the family. In the back of my mind, I thought this ruled out NX for Christmas. However, with this news, I have seemed to make the right decision. I am a little disappointed though.
Well, reading these rumors leaves me with a few thoughts. One, I don't doubt that Nintendo will not do everything in their powers to release as many games as possible for the system. If NX is the eventual successor for the Wii U as well as the 3DS, this is very possible.
Keeping with the idea that NX is some sort of hybrid, does this mean some of the experiences could be mobile in nature. Are we looking at some sort of platform that may need to have a data package. Mobile games can be turned around quicker than the traditional console or handheld game.
The final thought is that port games from third parties over to the NX better be as easy as the earlier rumor suggested. The last thing most third party developers want to hear is that Nintendo is making more first party games. For the most part if you own a Nintendo system, you are a fan of the Nintendo properties, and when you go to purchase a game, you look to buy the first party games first.
All of this said, we have heard nothing of NX, and the longer we go with hearing nothing the less likely we are to get it this year.

I imagine the Wii U will get another Just Dance game. Indies will probably develop for it a little longer, but at this point, I don't even know what the point is to bring Zelda out other than the fact of them just keeping their promise.
Re: Fire Emblem Mobile Game Will Offer "Accessible" Yet "Engaging" Gameplay
@MysteryAozz I had forgotten that they had the trading card game in Japan. This maybe what they try. Their version of Hearthstone. There is potential there. 👍
Re: Animal Crossing On Smartphones Aims To Deliver "A New Style Of Play"
Re: Pocket Card Jockey Comes to North America on 5th May
I really enjoy this game. I haven't seen pricing on it, yet. That will be my deciding factor.
Re: Xenoblade Chronicles Looks Set For The North American Wii U Virtual Console
I will pick this up. I won't play it. I'm terrible. I have a back log of over a 100 games I need to finish, but I just keep buying more. It's a sickness I tell you.
Re: Reaction: The NX Release in March 2017 and How It Changes the Game
My initial reaction off of this was negative, but that had more to do with me wanting the system than anything else. With this said, I think the NX is going to be different than what we think in a traditional Nintendo console or handheld.
It may be smart to move this to March launch. By then, mobile should be where it's going to be. They will have the opportunity to tie in their IP to more media (TV and movies). Maybe that is what they are going for.
I think the big deal this holiday season will be a price cut to at least the Wii U and most likely the 3DS.
Re: Nintendo NX Will Be Launched Globally in March 2017
I feel somewhat prophetic on this one. Just last night, I booked a trip to Disney World at the end of the year for the family. In the back of my mind, I thought this ruled out NX for Christmas. However, with this news, I have seemed to make the right decision. I am a little disappointed though.
Re: This Nintendo Patent for a U-Shaped Fitness Controller is Actually Cool
I am hoping this one died.
Re: Rumour: NX Software Lineup Will "Blow Away" Wii U, Controller Streaming Gimmick "Was Made Up"
Well, reading these rumors leaves me with a few thoughts.
