I know we are dreaming, but I'm going to try to be realistic. IfNintendo can launch three first party games then I have to think those might be, 3D Mario, Metroid, and the Zelda U simultaneous launch whatever they call it.
I think the 3D Mario team having a game ready is a must have. These guys build levels better than anyone. They can get the most out of the system day one, and it would be huge as a pack in game.
Metroid in any form could work. A Prime FPS would be welcomed, but i think considering a 3D Mario, Nintendo could talke it back to its 2D roots and be okay. If they went the 2D route, I would consider handing this to Yacht Club. If you let them run with it, you might be able to get another game into the lineup at launch. I know this is impossible because Yacht Club would have already needed to be working on it, and they have a lot on their plate this year.
I think Zelda is kind of a no brainier. I think Nintendo looks back and wishes they could have done something like they did with Twilight Princess with Skyward Sword. I think this scenario is doable.
Let's not forget that Pikmin is almost finished for NX or Wii U. Pokemon is do a new generation. How great would it be to play that on a new system. Animal Crossing is due a new full game. Wow! The possibilities are endless.
I know that Nintendo claims they will support three systems, but rarely, have they ever came through on that promise. I'm not sure if the even should. They only have a finite group of people who can work. It would spread themselves very thin.
To support NX, Wii U, and 3DS, they would have to have a tremendous amount of third party support, and they just do not have that. Who knows if they will ever have that again? It's not all of their fault. It's just the reality of the situation.
In the end, NX definitely replaces Wii U. I think there will be a wait and see approach to 3DS. I think ultimately they want NX to replace 3DS if there is a portable aspect to the system. This would allow them to look at things like Quality of Life.
I know this is going to put me out there to get trolled on, but I really do not like the design of that portable. I understand I think what they are trying to accomplish, but I don't think I want the buttons in the middle of the screen. Of course, this may be the case of an old man just not wanting to change.
@Sample_Text I could easily see the NX as using something like an SD card in a cartridge style format. I even think a patent that someone discover had a system with a SD card slot.
I can't imagine this being anything other than a port. This would certainly by them some time for the next Smash. My only concern as fans go would be those that have already purchased Smash with all of the DLC. I wonder if the cross buy with characters on 3DS and Wii U would go ahead and include the NX.
I am interested to see what else they will have for us. I do think this story helps to solidify the idea that at least some portion of the NX will be available this year. It doesn't make sense to be working on porting a title from 2014 that would come out any later than this year.
Well, I have to say this is disappointing. This was the first Kickstarter game I backed, and it will probably be the last in the video game front.
I bet they are not releasing the core game because it's not ready either. The network is most likely just an excuse. It certainly explains why Megaman is at the point he is.
I have to say I me ss Doug and Allison from the old Nintendo Week. I never can get through an entire episode with these two. Despite this, I'm counting the days to Twilight Princess HD.
@rjejr I no this is off topic, but I completely agree about Nintendo Land. It had a ton of potential that Nintendo squandered. It was ripe for DLC, but I guess that was before the Big N was committed to DLC.
I would welcome another Nintendo Land that might utilize amiibo in an interesting way.
Back on topic, is it possible this game could be an HD version of TTYD?
I'm a little torn on this announcement. I was really excited to hear of a surprise game, but another Mario isn't exactly something I was wanting right now. I guess Paper Mario would be the last version the Wii U hasn't touched if you count 3D World as a 3D. This would most likely puts the proverbial nail in the coffin of he Wii U.
On the other hand, TTYD is a great game, and The Paper Mario team does a solid job every time. Sticker Star didn't really get me excited, but it wasn't bad. I guess with the Wii U you kind of have to take what you can get now. Regardless, I am sure it will be a great game.
All I can say is if VR can't come in any cheaper the $500 or $600 then the GDC can be interested all day, but in the end, it will never be more than niche to the public. The public had a cow over the price of 3D, and it was cheaper than this,
Zack and Wiki is easily in my Top 5 Wii games. This game was everything third party games should have been on the Wii. It is so worth it to play. There was at one time the talk of a sequel. I would welcome seeing that game on the NX. It won't happen, but a guy can dream.
Part of the increased profit could come from the strengthening of the dollar. Nintendo has a lot of cash on hand. If the dollar strengthens, all of that Yen will be worth more.
@Kirk as great as VR would be, I don't think Nintendo can afford to try it. Most analyst are in agreement that VR is not going to be mainstreamed with game systems especially considering the price point Occulus came in at. They are saying VR will be arelatively small niche.
Nintendo can't afford to deliver a system that has that potential. If they had not already tried it with 3D or tablet gaming, I'd say go for it. However, the expense those two experiments built into their systems have backed them into s corner.
I think there will be innovation in the NX, but I think it will most likely be innovation in an area that is not as cost prohibitive.
I wood like ammibos that are little replicas of the old boxes or cartridges with the game stored on them. Just kidding Nintendo. Please do not do anything remotely like that.
@kshixson this going to sound crazy probably, but I wouldn't be surprised if NX didn't have some component like that available.
I mean, the $100 box might be a stretch, but I think NX is priced cheaper, and I think NX finds its niche with people who want more substance than what they can get on the iPhone, Apple TV, or Amazon Fire TV. With there IP's, they could own and somewhat creat the market.
Nintendo is in a little different position than Sony. Nintendo has a lot of cash and convertibles (not the car😀) available. They have no debt really to speak of.
As much as we want the NX to be the next big thing, it will have a bearing on the companies performance, but not as much as the exchange rate has a beating. The latest profit that Nintendo turned was due in large part to favorable exchange rates on the cash they have available.
I wouldn't say there is nothing profit in the virtual console. I'm just not desire much profit can come from their current model. I think as one of the VC problems should be solved with the universal account system. This hopefully will keep customers from having to repurchase games they have owned on other systems.
Personally, I would like a some sort of a subscription service at the right price point. Maybe, if they adopted the Kindle Unlimited plan where you could for lack of a better term check games out.
Let's say you pay $10 per month, and can have two or three games checked out at a time. You would then need to turn a game back in before you get the next games. It could be some variation of that and I'd probably pay for it.
Nintendo is in an interesting position. They have the dubious task to create a system most likely needs to have a great deal of superior specs if they are to "compete" with PS4 and X1.
however, others feel that they need to continue to innovate. There is a sacrifice for innovation. I can't see both coming from this unless this is an attempt at competing directly with mobile gaming.
I'm not saying that's the way to go, but I don't see how you can create a system with a top of the line chip set and the ability to take it on the go. It would just be too expensive. Regardless, I'll buy it. I can't lie and say I won't.
This certainly sets us up for an interesting 2016. There will be as much speculation to come about NX as there has already been. I think Nintendo will be content to let Sony and Microsoft duke it out for dedicated console supremacy.
I think Nintendo is going back after the mobile market in some way. They have had success with indies with the Wii U and 3DS. I think they find a way to make the NX powerful enough to get their first and second party games to the level of PS3 and X1, but I think the third party support could come from the mobile industry.
There are a lot of big game makers who have titles in mobile.
I like the idea of Daisy. She has been absent from a lot of stuff lately. It'd be great if we could get blocks from other 8-bit and 16-bit Nintendo games, but I know that is a stretch. Maybe the ability to design your own blocks.
I think with Patcher it is the blind squirrel or broken clock syndrome. If you are always negative, you will eventually be right. He's not the least bit positive, and when he is wrong, he won't own up to it. He is the shock jock of gaming analysts. The mere mention like this keeps him in business. So, we are really playing into his hands.
As for QoL, I understand diversification. However, it is hard to establish an opinion of you know nothing about what the plans are. On the surface, mobile gaming does make more sense, but who's to say there is not a tie-in somewhere like fit bit.
I think DI2 missed the mark by going so heavy on Marvel. Marvel has made their dollars on the movies. The movie demographic and the DI demographic are completely different. They were so top heavy in Marvel it hurt.
There is a fear that DI3 could suffer the same fate. They are obviously going all in on Star Wars, but Star Wars is still a better brand than Marvel. Plus, Star Wars has some strong female characters which Marvel was lacking.
I hope they can right the ship.i think they have a great thing going.
I know it has been said already on here, but Muramasa is a great game. If it comes to North America, it should be a definite pick up for someone who doesn't have it. I still have it for the Wii. I will not let go of that title.
The Wii U was in a tough spot to begin with. I'm honestly not sure what Nintendo or third party companies could have done. I think both parties made mistakes that on the surface makes the Wii U look like a commercial failure.
For Nintendo's part, they did a horrible job of marketing the system. Calling it the Wii U was not smart. They would only show the gamepad when discussing it. They truly made it look like an add on.
Third parties were hesitant to jump on board. I'm sure a lot felt the system was going to be underpowered knowing what Microsoft and Sony were working on. As with the DS, I'm sure a lot of the companies weren't sure how they might use the second screen.
All of this coupled with the fact that some of the more core gamers were burned time and time again by shovelware on the Wii created a perfect storm of bad publicity. Gamers aren't completely off the hook. They did fail to purchase some great third party Wii title, Zack and Wiki.
Wii U will unfortunately go down in most people's eyes as a failure. However, think about the typical number of titles the average person has for a system. The Wii U has a solid library to keep most people busy. The long tail on games like Super Smash Bros. and Splatoon should get us to the NX. Not to mention, Zelda is still to come.
I'm satisfied with the Wii U. Would I like to see some of the third parties put some of these next gen games? I guess. Really, I'm a. Nintendo guy first and foremost. They have the properties I enjoy, and at the end of the day, that's enough for me.
@EXP I agree with you. He is not a long term solution. I could see him maybe getting them through the NX release, but I really think they need something more than that in this position. I'm not saying he's a bad choice. He's a safe choice. I think I'd rather see something a little more dynamic, and Miyamoto is not the guy either for that.
@gatorboi352 They maybe last place in home consoles but they are still killing everyone when you consider the handheld market. That can't be overlooked. Have they made mistakes as a company, you bet. They still have more cash on hand than anyone. Until that changes, they will continue to make consoles of some type.
@tysonfury I like the idea of Tsunekazu Ishihara. Those guys have done a great job of getting the most out of an IP. Think of what he could do with Nintendo's plethora of IPs. Best idea I've heard, yet.
Pachter used to tick me off, but I've stopped listening to him. He's the shock jock of the analyst world. He bases most of his comments on the Wii U and fails to mention the success of the 3DS which is doing better than any dedicated gaming system.
As for Nintendo, I expect they new exactly how bad Iwata's situation was. They have contingencies in place. I imagine the list of successors has already been finalized, but out of respect, it will be a little while before anything is announced.
It's important to remember that Iwata didn't make all of the decisions for the company. Please don't think me as disrespectful, but there is a team behind a lot of the decisions that have been made for better or worse. I expect they will continue the course they have set themselves on.
I actually use these games as a break time thing. Every two and a half hours I get to play until my hearts are gone. Of course a nice run can still waste a day.😃
This was all just a ploy to generate some interest in the game. I don't fault them for it. You know the old saying? "Any publicity is good publicity." Unfortunately, this game was not just know for the controversy surrounding it. It was also know as a not so superior game. Personally, I enjoyed Sewer Shark more than Night Trap. I think they would be better off doing a remake than a restore. And, there was also a version of this game with better quality video on the 3DO, I think. So, they may be using that footage instead of "cleaning up" the Sega CD footage.
The figures are nice and all, but I am interested in game integration. It is easy to see how these will play out with Smash Brothers, but how is it going to play out in Mario Kart 8 or Toad. I think that will go a long way in determining how successful this will be.
Well, this couldn't be any worse than the new RBI Baseball. I picked it up for the PS3 for $14. I've played it once, and that's all I care to play it. It's soured me on download titles.
It has always floored me how a game can be great, and a movie about said game can be so bad. In the right hands, any franchise should thrive. I have always thought Skylanders would be more effective on the small screen.
The original is good, but I thought the N64 was where the series really shined. We played that thing for hours in college. It is hard to revisit games like this. It's different going back and playing through Super Mario Bros. Super Mario Kart innovated for its time, but it has been built on from there. I think you have to keep things like that in mind.
By now, most people have seen the Nintendo patten that was released this week that looked like a handheld with interchangeable pieces like d pads or analog sticks. It could be a 3DS with those capabilities. That would bring a resurgence in Kid Icarus Uprising.
Remember, we have also been promised the ability to use two game pads. We have yet to see this so it could be something along those lines. I cannot imagine it being any more than that.

@Vriess I'd go for a new IP. Splatoon is a hit. I would love to see what that group could come up with. See if they could top there last IP.

@gatorboi352
They maybe last place in home consoles but they are still killing everyone when you consider the handheld market. That can't be overlooked. Have they made mistakes as a company, you bet. They still have more cash on hand than anyone. Until that changes, they will continue to make consoles of some type.

@tysonfury
I like the idea of Tsunekazu Ishihara. Those guys have done a great job of getting the most out of an IP. Think of what he could do with Nintendo's plethora of IPs. Best idea I've heard, yet.
Re: Industry Analysts Speculate On Nintendo's Future And Satoru Iwata's Possible Successor
Re: Reaction: Pokémon Shuffle Isn't Quite Microtransaction Hell, But It's Getting There
I actually use these games as a break time thing. Every two and a half hours I get to play until my hearts are gone. Of course a nice run can still waste a day.😃
Re: The Console Wars Live On As Night Trap Remake Team Holds a Grudge Against Nintendo
Re: Gallery: A Closer Look At 13 amiibo Toys
The figures are nice and all, but I am interested in game integration. It is easy to see how these will play out with Smash Brothers, but how is it going to play out in Mario Kart 8 or Toad. I think that will go a long way in determining how successful this will be.
Re: Review: Arc Style: Baseball 3D (3DS eShop)
Well, this couldn't be any worse than the new RBI Baseball. I picked it up for the PS3 for $14. I've played it once, and that's all I care to play it. It's soured me on download titles.
Re: Activision Is Interested in Making a Skylanders Movie
It has always floored me how a game can be great, and a movie about said game can be so bad. In the right hands, any franchise should thrive. I have always thought Skylanders would be more effective on the small screen.
Re: Mario Kart Month: An Outsider's View Of Super Mario Kart
The original is good, but I thought the N64 was where the series really shined. We played that thing for hours in college. It is hard to revisit games like this. It's different going back and playing through Super Mario Bros. Super Mario Kart innovated for its time, but it has been built on from there. I think you have to keep things like that in mind.
Re: Brave, Maleficent, Lilo & Stitch and Guardians Of The Galaxy Spotted In Disney Infinity 2.0 Trailer
The green goblin and spidey appear as well.
Re: Rumour: Nintendo Will Reveal New Hardware At This Year's E3
By now, most people have seen the Nintendo patten that was released this week that looked like a handheld with interchangeable pieces like d pads or analog sticks. It could be a 3DS with those capabilities. That would bring a resurgence in Kid Icarus Uprising.
Remember, we have also been promised the ability to use two game pads. We have yet to see this so it could be something along those lines. I cannot imagine it being any more than that.
