Video game powerhouse Activision Blizzard has been banking big bucks for some time now thanks to a number of remasters.
We've seen the return of IP like Crash Bandicoot and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater from Activision's side, while Blizzard has chipped in with titles such as Warcraft III: Reforged - that one obviously didn't go down well with fans.
In the company's latest earnings call, it noted how more of this "remastered content" would likely show up at some point this year:
"We have a few other things up our sleeve in terms of remastered content that will unveil in due course, which should provide further opportunity for us this year."
Back in 2019, Activision said it had a lot of IP that it believed fans wanted to experience again - while making reference to the successful revival of Crash and Spyro.
As for Blizzard, more recent reports suggest it could be working on a Diablo 2 remake.
In related news, it's also been confirmed the team-based hero shooter Overwatch 2 won't be releasing this year. For more information about this, see our previous post.
What games in the Activision and Blizzard game libraries would you like to see remastered and perhaps even make the leap across to Switch? Tell us below.

Ugh warcraft III: reforged. I’m not a violent woman, but I wanna kick a few guys in the shin over that mess.
Still I hope that we all get some nice new collections or remastered games.
I would still love Tony Hawk's Pro Skater on the Switch, but worst case I will pick up an Xbox sometime this year.
I think it would be interesting to see a remake of Crash Twinsanity. The game was rushed out and had cut content, but I really enjoyed Crash Bandicoot and Dr. Neo Cortex working together.
What bit of this makes anyone think it applies to Nintendo Switch?
shouldnt have used warcraft reforged as an example.
H.E.R.O., River Raid...nah I know that will never happen! That would remind Activision of when they used to be a developer centric company focused on making quality games.
I can see more CoD remaster, maybe the earlier PC ones. Civilization, first Guitar Hero Trilogy (people are starting to get nostalgic for that now!) etc. I can think of lots of actual good games from them but they are licensed or they only put out the console ports so dont actually own the rights.
I'd love it if EA could put out some remakes of Road Rashm Desert Strike, Original Medal of Honour etc but then they'll only ***** them up.
Warcraft III: Reforged - Reforged
It doesn't suck this time
I was so excited for Warcraft III: Reforged. Couldn't justify a purchase with all the negative reviews.
Lost Vikings please!
After the Crash 4 flop, guess they'll go back to the well with Wrath of Cortex and Twinsanity....Or they'll just remake another old Call of Duty game.
@BloodyMurder
Did it flop? I know it didn't do as well as the N-Sane trilogy. But that doesn't mean flop.
The Lost Vikings!!!!!
@Dezzy
Crash 4 was actively avoided during the Activision investor meeting yesterday, so yeah. It didn't even break a million sales if estimates are to be believed.
There's also the recent rumor from Liam Robertson who claims that "Wumpa League" is dead.
We want Tony Hawk and Crash 4 on Switch first, please.
@BloodyMurder "Crash 4 was actively avoided during the Activision investor meeting yesterday, so yeah. It didn't even break a million sales if estimates are to be believed"
Maybe they should've tried putting it on a console with a large family audience where cute and colourful 3D mascot platformers with nostalgic appeal are extremely popular....... 🧐 Just a thought.
@Clyde_Radcliffe
A Switch port would have been on the cards except development was also rumored to be terrible with Beenox having to be brought in to clean up their mess. Take it with a grain of salt but the scuttlebutt is that Toys For Bob botched it and Activision knew they had a turd on their hands.
@BloodyMurder
The data I've seen suggested it sold nearly half a million digital copies in its first month. I think that suggests the total sales by now must be well over a million.
It's just no way near as successful as N-Sane trilogy, which sold like 15 million or something insane.
Finally, a River Raid remake on Switch.
What? It would be unironically neat.
@Dezzy
660K (Digital and physical) by around November was the estimates. That's bad because NSane Trilogy (only on the PS4) did 2.5 million in the same timeframe.
Papa Activision isn't gonna be happy about that. Even with the change in price, not even hitting a cool million would be enough for them to pull the plug as the rumor suggests.
That's also ignoring possible development troubles even before release.
@GrailUK The fact that some of these remasters HAVE already hit the Switch?
Of course that doesn't mean it'll be a guaranteed Switch release, in fact, it's probably more likely they won't drop on Switch, but they very well could be. Even if it won't be until some time down the road.
If it were talking about like, Halo, or Uncharted or whatever that has never been on a Nintendo platform then sure, but this is simply Activision saying they have more remasters in the works and they have put out a few on Switch even if not all of them. I'd say that's reason enough to at least speculate about it being Switch related.
I would like Call of Duty 4 remastered on Switch... YEAH I SAID IT!!! (Romesh Ranganathan and MTW reference for all the brits here)
@Clyde_Radcliffe The platforms of choice were not the issue. The PS4 especially has a bunch of platformers and games aimed towards families, including franchises Sony owns themselves. Hell, N. Sane Trilogy was a timed one year exclusive for PS4 and they still have stuff like Ratchet & Clank, Dreams, the MediEvil remake, LittleBigPlanet, the Rayman games, Celeste and a bunch of indies that scratch the platfomer itch
Considering it came out in direct competition with Star Wars Squadrons it's no surprise which one had the bigger draw
Hey Activition, if you want your platformers to sell well maybe put it on a console which you already know has a strong affinity for platformers. I dunno, just a thought.
Activision means nothing to me until I get a COD on switch. Until then nothing they bring matters.
Fingers crossed we get a Mass Effect Trilogy port to the Switch or COD for that matter.
@BloodyMurder
Where you getting those numbers?
Do the right thing, Activision. Port CTR: Nitro-Fueled to the PC.
If they don't port Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 to Switch I will punch everyone at Activision Blizzard all over.
Maybe a Matt hoffman remaster along the same lines as tony hawk. Those games were underrated.
Wish they’d put Tony hawk on switch
@Dezzy
https://gamstat.com/games/Crash_Bandicoot_4_Its_About_Time/
It's like steam spy for console before it got shut down.
@Gasarakii we’re in the same boat 😆
I don't know about u but I personally want skylanders comeback / remaster. Especially since this year is the 10th anniversary of the first game!
It would be nice to see Vigilante 8 2nd Offense and the N64 Spider-Man remastered
Call of Duty has yet to make its long-overdue appearance on the Switch, as the last CoD game we've ever gotten was CoD Ghosts on the Wii U.
Treyarch is well specialized with Nintendo hardware, it seems. They were responsible for every CoD home console port to the Wii.
While a remaster seems unlikely (because they're usually remakes for current-gen consoles), I definitely see ports and re-released being a thing.
@Yosher Lol. Well, I'm not going to stop you speculating I'm just going to assume not and be pleasantly surprised IF anything materializes. Tony Hawk was a huge omission. And Modern Warfare 2 would have been great (loved that game). But I gave up ages ago on Activision. Up to them to get me onside again.
Personally I'm just waiting to see how Activision ruins Diablo 4 with MTX. Or a season pass where half of the things you get are cosmetics that were in the game originally. Any and all remasters come second to that.
I also don't see CoD coming any time soon cause Activision knows that most Switch owners have at least a basic level of intelligence and won't buy into their MTX schemes. I'd bet that's what happened to Fifa. People refused to buy the MTX packs so EA stopped putting literally any effort into it cause all they'd see was just game sales and that's not good enough any more.
Tony hawk and this ain't a remaster but spyro 4?
@BloodyMurder
That's just the PS4 numbers. It's also worth pointing out those numbers are lower than the total sales, because lots of people don't actually play the game the second they've bought it.
The gamstat numbers for FF7 Remake for example, were nearly 1 million behind the actual sales (as stated by Square)
Tony Hawk and Diablo 2 on switch. i don’t need more.
@Dezzy
Feel free to cite a source but I'm certain you don't have a better one. In the end, Crash 4 was a flop. It ain't pleasant but thems the breaks.
That link also had Xbox sales BTW.
@NullPointerExcep I actually forgot Spider-Man 2000 came out on N64
It's probably not happening for a long time as long as Insomniac has ownership over the Spider-Man games license though. Maybe they could make it work on PS4 or PS5 due to the original game's ties to PS1 but NeverSoft is defunct, and Activision lost the rights to make Marvel games about 6 years ago.
Sony Interactive Entertainment and Insomniac are in complete control of Spider-Man's games going forward so it's probably super unlikely
@BloodyMurder
Well those numbers are over 800,000 combined, and stopped being recorded in November, meaning they didn't include Christmas sales.
When you combine that with the fact that sales are always a fair bit higher than actual trophy count (because not everyone plays it immediately upon buying it), I think over 1 million is pretty much guaranteed.
I do think that will be a disappointment for them, but not necessarily a "flop". We probably won't get a Crash 5 though, I'm guessing.
Starcraft Ghost
where is CALL OF DUTY ON NINTENDO SWITCH
Microtransactions in Crash Team Racing, the abomination that is Warcraft III reforged, this company sure has a wonderful track record with remasters don't they? Let's see how they're going to cynically profit off of someone else's work this time.
Activision Anthology is about the only project I'd like to see them revisit.
@Dezzy It didn’t flop. Over 400,000 copies sold in its first week and over 800,000 copies currently, and that data is a bit old. It did well.
SkyLanders maybe?
@Snatcher I'd argue it's too early for that. I do think the toys-to-life genre can absolutely see a comeback one day, but it still feels a bit soon for it (of course Nintendo found a clever way to exist outside of the decline of Toys-To-Life with Amiibo by making them really non-essential, and having them function across as many games as the devs desire, so Amiibo is not likely to ever disappear even while the genre as a whole is dead).
@HollowSpectre Spyro 4 is already in development.
Would love to see the X-Men Legends games ported or remastered on switch, or a new vigalante 8
@TheFrenchiestFry I doubt the new consoles helped either.
@Dezzy Crash 4 was included in the new year PSN sale too for half price. I think a decent chunk of people who held off because of the price jumped in there. The sales numbers are definitely higher than Gamston, though obviously not N Sane trilogy levels (I'm not sure that would be possible anyway, that game was a very special case imo). I think Crash 4 is going to be a slow burner, and a Switch port would boost sales. But yeah, it's not gonna do 15 million; maybe 5 million at the end of it all. I just hope Activision doesn't do the probable thing and assume that just because a 3D platformer doesn't always sell CoD numbers, it means it's not worth pursuing and we get more Crash and Spyro in future.
I wouldn't be surprised if after being burned by previous late releases of Activison remasters on Switch, alot of people who would have bought the PS4/Xbox version otherwise are holding out for a Switch release on Crash 4.
who wrote this dribble
I enjoyed the True Crime:Streets of L.A. so hopefully that will get a remake, but only if they keep Snoop Dog as a completion reward (and not hide it behind a paywall).
A Diablo 2 Remake sounds awesome. That game had grit.
The worst Thing is that you can not buy classic Warcraft 3 digital.
There is only the Reforged Version with "classic" Graphic.
Ty Tasmanian Tiger 3

@Clyde_Radcliffe And if not there, then perhaps the biggest PC gaming marketplace of all time?
Crash 4 and Tony Hawk Pro Skater Remaster should get Switch (and PS5/XBS) ports this year.
Please, give us Transformers: War for Cybertron online back...
How about these Activision remasters:
Singularity
Interstate 76
Blur
Ultimate Alliance 1&2
True Crime
X-men Origins: Wolverine
@Anti-Matter Ty3 was published by Activision, but Krome actually owns it. And Krome released Ty1 without Activision, and is re-releasing Ty2 shorty (again without Activision)
I don’t really need another Skylanders though I’d take it, but I would like to see some of the characters to get their own adventures.
Blackthorne remake anyone?
Was never gonna buy Reforged. Love the original WCIII, then they messed with that as well. 🤦🏻♂️
Rock and roll racing.
Rock and roll racing.
Rock and roll racing.
Rock and roll racing.
It would take FromSoftware's collaboration, but I'd love to see HD ports of the Lost Kingdoms duo on GameCube. Such an underrated little pair of games.
@baller98
Please, if there is a God, make this happen!
It'll never happen, but I'd love a remaster of both of Raven Software's excellent shooters.
Wolfenstein (2009)
I much preferred the occult Nazi's to Machine Game's tech Nazi's. It's still my personal favorite Wolfenstein game, and sadly, you can't buy it on any platform digitally.
Singularity
Another excellent shooter from Raven, and one with some nice Bioshock vibes to it.
As others have already mentioned...Blur.
Seriously, Blur is the love child of Mario Kart and Burnout, how it didn't become a massive success is beyond me.
I liked Diablo 1 more than 2. I know there's a seasonal mode in Diablo III like Diablo 1 but i would love a real remaster on Switch.
@BloodyMurder I’m surprised but glad it didn’t sell well. After playing the crash trilogy myself I never wanna play a crash game again. It was horrible. I’m glad others may have realised the same thing.
@NullPointerExcep I second Vigilante 8/2nd Offense remaster. So long as they treat it with the care of current remasters and not the half-baked V8 Arcade from the 360 era.
I've never really cared for Crash Bandicoot, but I wouldn't mind some Tony Hawk games making their way to the Switch.
What I really want, though, is for them to show the Switch some love with some Call of Duty. Preferably the ones set in modern times. I'm still waiting on a sequel to Ghosts...
I'd also welcome Warzone with open arms, since I just recently found out that my cousins that live in Arkansas - I'm in Oklahoma - play it a lot on their PS4's. Of course I'd also be hoping for cross-platform play, too.
They already allow us to connect our Nintendo Network ID to their Call of Duty website, right? I'd say it's passed time for us to do something with that!
Here me out here what if they remastered skylanders but heres what they do
Speed up the characters,reward players for keeping a combo going, have all characters unlocked at the start and have players build a party(10 on easy, 8 on normal and 5 on hard) before they begin a level, add a new difficulty for the experienced players which limits there party down to 3 and if they want to keep the whole toys to life make it optional like have the toys increase a characters health or unlock a special move. Not only will this help shift the remaining stock activision had left over but it also rewards the players who were there from the very beginning
But hey im just spit balling here and i thought it would be nice as a way to celebrate skylanders 10th anniversary.
A version of Diablo II that doesn't constantly bombard me with off-integer sprite scaling and blown out pre-rendered highlights?
I'd be very grateful.
Although knowing contemporary Blizzard, they'd likely manage to screw something else up in the process.
The correct answer is H.E.R.O.
@Atariboy you stole my thunder! Lol I’d LOVE to see an Activision anthology again! The one they made for PS2 is an incredible collection but nothing since! Wishful thinking, they can even take it a step further and add titles from other consoles like Atari 5200 version of Megamania & River Raid, and 5200 exclusives like Dreadnought Factor, Zenji, Zone Ranger, Worm Whomper from the Intellivision console and maybe even Toy Bizarre that they published on the C64 computer!
Never happen though lol 😂
@Anti-Matter Ty 2 was announced so I’d assume Ty 3 not to far off 😊
Blizzard has said they lost the D2 source code. So we might get a new D2, but we aren't getting the original game.
I don't think this tease will apply to Switch. I think we'll get Modern Warfare 3 Remastered for PC/PS4/XB1 and an old Blizzard game for the same platforms.
I’m hoping for a remastered version of SSX 1-2-3, including Wipeout 1-2-3, and The Legacy Of Kain. This is very late to the party! These were my favorite games back in the day👍🏻
I'm still hoping that Capcom releases a Dead Rising Remastered Collection. With Dead Rising 1, Dead Rising 2, and Dead Rising 2:0ff the Record for Switch. Those Remastered games came to every other platform in 2016.
Destroy all Humans:Remake absolutely needs a Switch port.
Darksiders 3 needs to come to Switch considering that every other game in the franchise, even Genesis, got a Switch release.
Crash Bandicoot 4 needs a Switch port for sure !
I don't think that any of these games would be too outrageous to ask for.
What's the ratio of Crash Bandicoot N-Insane Trilogy VS Warcraft III Reforged?
@Dezzy No, Crash 4 didnt flop. It sold 400k digitally in its first month alone. It reached number one in sales in places like France. It's not the most stellar, but it's quite decent.
@TheBeardiest
As stated, the numbers are gonna jump enormously whenever they finally release Crash 4 for Switch.
...and if Crash is in Smash, oh boy-----
get ready for none of these to release on switch.
