I am curious about the difficulty for devs to make a demo. I love demos and wish every game had them. But how much extra work is it for devs? And why are some demo files big and others relatively small?
Great article! As someone who is usually always reading a nonfiction and fiction book, a regular at my local library, I too wonder at the disconnect between the two.
I wonder how long it will take for games to be recognized as literary, artistic, musical works to be treated with respect.
I absolutely loved this game. The music and visuals are great and hilarious. The only drawback for me was to play the game well, I had to focus on music and mostly ignore the visuals. But playing each song multiple times let me see the zany antics on screen.
This is the kind of game that puts a big smile on your face.
@Magician hello! How is Grow? I played the previous game, Yonder. It was okay except for stutters in the frame rate. Is Grow significantly better than Yonder?
@antisumo thanks for that. Actually I quit Stardew Valley after a few hours—then months later played it again—and put in 100 hours. I will try No Mans Sky again and hopefully it will click. Thanks!
Okay, I bought this game not too long ago on sale. I like the concept, like the flying around and collecting. But it just doesn’t click for me. Maybe I will try again. I want to like it, but….
Yes! This is the perfect “play for 10 minutes” game. I thought the level progression was slow, but perfectly suited for this game. The music and colors and animation of the little guy climbing around: all make it a great game.
Sakuna: rice and ruin is becoming a real fun game. Only a few hours into it, I am starting to figure things out. I love the dialogue between characters.
@Kilamanjaro thanks for the info. I am excited for the game and already preordered. I still have my posters for other games that I got at game stop. That said, I won’t be disappointed if there isn’t one for me.
Picked up Chicory on sale. So far it’s okay, I am still figuring out game play. After finishing Behind the Frame, it is different. Both games have painting mechanics, but quite different. Art of Rally is good, if only the frame rate didn’t stutter every few minutes, it would be great. And Rocket League.
As a composing musician for many years, I long ago gave up the idea of originality. I am sure I have copied stuff, and maybe if I am lucky someone will copy from me.
Great article! Thanks for putting the songs side by side: very enlightening!
I still remember dying more than 5000 times. What a great game with a great story. That said, I already purchased the sound track and I never play games twice.
@StarPoint a month before ACNH came out, I stopped all game media. I missed a couple trailers and the reviews. I went into the game knowing very little. It was great.
@CountDrakeulah I agree with your assessment of Owlboy. I played the whole game: I liked the art, but the game play and overall game design left me wanting a lot more.
Am I the only one who didn’t like this game? I played it many hours and enjoyed the gameplay until I felt like I was addicted, which was not a good thing. The randomness of the progression made me feel like I was getting nowhere, but I felt compelled to keep going. I don’t know, maybe that’s just me…
@Tasuki this past year, I was looking for a new farm sim and revisited my Stardew valley farm. At first I saw it and wanted to make a couple changes and upgrades. Before I knew it, I was back in, putting another 40 hours on top of my initial 100. Now my farm looks so good to me and I had fun doing it. I encourage you to go back.
Eiyuden Chronicles Rising: 10 hours into it and I like it. Playing a bunch of my racing games one after another for comparison: it's kinda fun to play them back to back.
At first I played this game a lot on my 3DS, so much so, that I wore a little circle on the bottom corner from playing the game.
After playing it for 15 to 20 hours, I realized that it was too random for me. Even with breeding my horses, I never felt like I was building a mastery of the game. it was simply how the cards played.
And yes, as someone mentioned, it is addictive. I realized that I was playing not out of fun, but addiction. it was weird.

This looks good! As someone who cares for five goats and a chicken, I can’t wait to try this. I wonder if there will be a demo?

Re: You'll Have One Year To Transfer Funds Once 3DS & Wii U eShops Close, Says Nintendo
@romanista Agreed! I don’t see any downside if they made every game $1 or something comparable. It would actually be a fun way to end the shop.

Re: Saudi Arabia's PIF Raises Stake In Nintendo For The Second Time This Year
Okay, forgive my ignorance. Just because they own 6%, does that mean they have any artistic influence?
I don’t like it, but I also assume many products that I consume are making profits for bad organizations.
