Re: Talking Point: What Game Do You Replay Every Year?

dugan

I simply cannot replay a game. I waited 3 years then tried to replay BotW, quit after a few hours.

There are some games I wish I could replay because I love them so much, but I just lose the motivation.

I suppose that is what I like about gaming, there is always a new twist, a new mechanic, a new art style, a new sound track.

Re: Review: Please, Touch The Artwork - And We Saw That It Was Good, Very Good

dugan

Like others, I tried the demo. I wanted to like it, it looked like a game I might love. But no: it was too obtuse, not a good combination of art and game. I deleted the demo.

I just finished chapter 1 in the game Behind the Frame. Obviously different games, but Behind the Frame is doing such a good job at introducing me to its gameplay. So far it is fantastic!

Re: Review: Warp Drive - An F-Zero-Inspired Racer With Promise And Performance Woes

dugan

@AstroTheGamosian I really like your idea! I have played almost all the serious racers on Switch. Yes, you can upgrade license or unlock new cars, but none of them have a real story or bigger achievements. Burnout Paradise was great because I could travel anywhere and take on different races as I wanted. Likewise, your idea would give greater autonomy as well as provide a more full story line. Good idea!

Re: Review: Warp Drive - An F-Zero-Inspired Racer With Promise And Performance Woes

dugan

Thank you very much for the review: you saved me some money. I absolutely love the visuals on this racer, but with the performance issues that you report, I will wait for update and sale.

I bought WRC10 on sale a bit ago. Since I did not see the original: I am looking at the graphics as a cartoony, cel shaded type visual. Judging the visuals like that: it is actually quite pretty and it runs well.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (November 26th)

dugan

@WolfyWardark Hey! I also am playing No Mans Sky, getting it on sale recently. I like it, and have read reviews and guides. I established my base camp and made several things. However, it is overwhelming. I know there are different ways to play, and the quest guide is pretty good if I just want to follow the main quest. But I am still overwhelmed.

How are you playing it? Do you have a focus on your gameplay?

Re: Round Up: All The Games From Nintendo's Indie World Showcase - November 2022

dugan

@Anachronism I didn't want to say it: "less and less interesting" but you are right. Nothing caught my eye in this direct .

I also just finished Sumire. I bought it on sale, not expecting much, and I was pleasantly surprised. I was also not expecting it to get that dark, but that made it more interesting. Overall a good story and a good game. What did you think of Sumire?

Re: Poll: So, Animal Crossing: New Leaf Or New Horizons - Which Do You Like Best?

dugan

This is a question that I have asked my self since the launch of New Horizons. I love most of the comments. I love the article.

Numbers: over 500 hours in New Leaf, over 600 in New Horizons. But it is more than numbers, as someone mentioned.

In the end, it is like two good books by the same author. There are similarities and differences, each story is meaningful in its time, in its place. New Leaf was the first game that I fell deep deep into; whereas New Horizons exceeded expectations and helped me through a difficult time in life.

I am very thankful for these great games!

Re: The Nintendo Switch Has Exceeded 114 Million Units Sold

dugan

I still can't imagine a person getting a switch for the first time, but sure enough, a coworker of mine purchased one a few months ago. She likes it, but doesn't play that much. I can't imagine that, since I have been playing since week 2 after launch.

These sale numbers boggle my mind.

Re: Backlog Club: Exploring The [REDACTED] And Finding The [REDACTED] In 'Inside'

dugan

This fits in my "backlog and never going to play it" or finish it, rather. I played about 30 minutes and didn't like it. I get it, and can appreciate it. But since I have choice I will play something like Gris, which in way is dystopian and confronts mental issues--but it is beautiful to experience and ultimately lifts me up.

Thanks for the article and the link though: I admit I did want to see the ending that I never saw.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Demos - Try Before You Buy On Switch eShop

dugan

@OptometristLime well said, I really like demos. I just tried the Youropa demo and saved money. I liked the look, I like the game play feel, but... the mechanics I don't like. I was dying in ways I didn't understand, and I wouldn't have known it until I bought it.

For a gamer like me who has limited time and money, demos are so worthwhile.

Re: Mini Review: Picross S8 - Four-Player Picross? It's Absolute Madness!

dugan

Hello Picross fans! I just bought 7, since it went on sale, I don't have them all, but I do like them.

First: Picross 3D rules, I would double dip if it comes on Switch.

Second: Travel Mosaics is, I think, a better nonagram game and there are several on Switch, please tell me someone here has played Travel Mosaics.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 1st)

dugan

WRC 10: yikes, I should have read the reviews, wait a minute: I did. But it was on sale. And, I am starting to enjoy it for what it is. Looking for a farm sim, I got sucked back into Stardew and I am loving it. I need to finish the final boss in Tropical Freeze, but I am scared. And a little Rocket League.

Happy gaming everyone!

Re: Stardew Valley Creator Shares Update On Version 1.6 Release

dugan

More than a year ago I stopped playing after 100 hours and a finished community center. Recently, looking for a farm sim, I started where I left off and I am still loving this game! While I don't have the patience to complete many quests, I do want to make my farm a completely designed, improved area. I am slogging through winter now.

I thought maybe I should try Portia, or Rune Factory, and I tried the Harvestella demo, but I am just not getting the same feeling that I get from Stardew. What a great game!

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Think Of The Harvestella Demo?

dugan

I just started up Stardew Valley after a year (I put 100 hours into it) so it was interesting playing this demo while also playing Stardew Valley. Of course Stardew started out very slow for me.

But this article is spot on, as well as the too frequent loading screens. I love the look of this game, but I doubt I will plunge in and get the game, especially for full price.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 17th)

dugan

This past week or so I have gone back to Stardew Valley. After more than a year away, it was easy to come back and I am in a satisfying game loop. Also trying the Harvestella demo, so far so good, more wordy than I anticipated, but it is the beginning of the game. And a little Rocket League.

Happy gaming everyone!

Re: Random: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Trick Gets You All Korok Seeds In 10 Minutes

dugan

After playing the game at launch and then DLC, putting over 300 hours into it: I stopped playing for a couple years. The past few months I have returned to the game to appreciate its awesomeness.

I am having fun walking, riding around with my Korok hat and finding Koroks. The world is a beautiful place to roam, and finding Koroks is a bonus. I now have over 400.

I don't think a glitch would be as cool as finding them, but I doubt I will ever find all of them. That said: it is cool that people find these crazy things in the game!

Re: Mini Review: Lost In Play - A Fantastic Adventure Game That Cleverly Sidesteps Genre Pitfalls

dugan

@N64-ROX Seriously? You played a lot of point and clicks? I have played about four or five and I gave up on them mainly because of pixel hunting.

But, I want to like them: some of them have great artwork, story lines, etc. But after an hour or two or ten, I get tired of the game play.

Do you have any recommendations for point and clicks that are really great, or different from the rest?

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Is Celebrating Tomato-Throwing With A Tomato T-Shirt

dugan

Okay, I did go back to my island to get this shirt. I had to kill a few roaches in my house, but otherwise the place is the same as I left it. It is a strange feeling going back.

While I have really good memories of such a great game, I also feel no real desire to continue to play. Much like when I went back to check out New Leaf: it was good, but the moment is gone.

I still say that New Horizons and Breath of the Wild are the two best games, period.
