@StarPoint a month before ACNH came out, I stopped all game media. I missed a couple trailers and the reviews. I went into the game knowing very little. It was great.
@CountDrakeulah I agree with your assessment of Owlboy. I played the whole game: I liked the art, but the game play and overall game design left me wanting a lot more.
Am I the only one who didn’t like this game? I played it many hours and enjoyed the gameplay until I felt like I was addicted, which was not a good thing. The randomness of the progression made me feel like I was getting nowhere, but I felt compelled to keep going. I don’t know, maybe that’s just me…
@Tasuki this past year, I was looking for a new farm sim and revisited my Stardew valley farm. At first I saw it and wanted to make a couple changes and upgrades. Before I knew it, I was back in, putting another 40 hours on top of my initial 100. Now my farm looks so good to me and I had fun doing it. I encourage you to go back.
Eiyuden Chronicles Rising: 10 hours into it and I like it. Playing a bunch of my racing games one after another for comparison: it's kinda fun to play them back to back.
At first I played this game a lot on my 3DS, so much so, that I wore a little circle on the bottom corner from playing the game.
After playing it for 15 to 20 hours, I realized that it was too random for me. Even with breeding my horses, I never felt like I was building a mastery of the game. it was simply how the cards played.
And yes, as someone mentioned, it is addictive. I realized that I was playing not out of fun, but addiction. it was weird.
Like others, I tried the demo. I wanted to like it, it looked like a game I might love. But no: it was too obtuse, not a good combination of art and game. I deleted the demo.
I just finished chapter 1 in the game Behind the Frame. Obviously different games, but Behind the Frame is doing such a good job at introducing me to its gameplay. So far it is fantastic!
@AstroTheGamosian I really like your idea! I have played almost all the serious racers on Switch. Yes, you can upgrade license or unlock new cars, but none of them have a real story or bigger achievements. Burnout Paradise was great because I could travel anywhere and take on different races as I wanted. Likewise, your idea would give greater autonomy as well as provide a more full story line. Good idea!
Thank you very much for the review: you saved me some money. I absolutely love the visuals on this racer, but with the performance issues that you report, I will wait for update and sale.
I bought WRC10 on sale a bit ago. Since I did not see the original: I am looking at the graphics as a cartoony, cel shaded type visual. Judging the visuals like that: it is actually quite pretty and it runs well.
@WolfyWardark Hey! I also am playing No Mans Sky, getting it on sale recently. I like it, and have read reviews and guides. I established my base camp and made several things. However, it is overwhelming. I know there are different ways to play, and the quest guide is pretty good if I just want to follow the main quest. But I am still overwhelmed.
How are you playing it? Do you have a focus on your gameplay?
@Olliemar28 This is a really great article! I love the information and comparisons. And the visuals really back up your writing. Thank you for putting history into perspective: great writing!
Glyph, great 3D platformer, WRC, once you get used to the visuals, it is intense racing, ACNH, I went back to change something, and it sucked me back in....and Rocket League.
@Anachronism Wow, thanks for the detailed response! And I appreciate the personal reference and understanding. I felt the same way about the game--you really put it into words well. Thank you!
@Anachronism I didn't want to say it: "less and less interesting" but you are right. Nothing caught my eye in this direct .
I also just finished Sumire. I bought it on sale, not expecting much, and I was pleasantly surprised. I was also not expecting it to get that dark, but that made it more interesting. Overall a good story and a good game. What did you think of Sumire?
55, do I win something? I love being old and talking games to the 20s 30s year olds at my work. My peers look at me strange: I don't care, I love gaming.
This is a question that I have asked my self since the launch of New Horizons. I love most of the comments. I love the article.
Numbers: over 500 hours in New Leaf, over 600 in New Horizons. But it is more than numbers, as someone mentioned.
In the end, it is like two good books by the same author. There are similarities and differences, each story is meaningful in its time, in its place. New Leaf was the first game that I fell deep deep into; whereas New Horizons exceeded expectations and helped me through a difficult time in life.
I still can't imagine a person getting a switch for the first time, but sure enough, a coworker of mine purchased one a few months ago. She likes it, but doesn't play that much. I can't imagine that, since I have been playing since week 2 after launch.
This fits in my "backlog and never going to play it" or finish it, rather. I played about 30 minutes and didn't like it. I get it, and can appreciate it. But since I have choice I will play something like Gris, which in way is dystopian and confronts mental issues--but it is beautiful to experience and ultimately lifts me up.
Thanks for the article and the link though: I admit I did want to see the ending that I never saw.
WRC 10, Picross S7, Rocket League and Stardew Valley. After playing SV for a 100 hours, stopping for a year, I went back and put 50 more into that game. Picked up Glyph on super sale: had fun with the demo, but waited for sale, and here it is.
@WoomyNNYes its been a while since I played and loved Forgotton Anne! I thought it was great. My only sore spot was after game when I wasn't able to get most of the songs by going back and finding secret things. But overall it was fantastic!
@Ironcore Part of me agrees with you, but another part wonders how hard it is for developers to create a demo. I imagine it takes considerable work to take a portion of the game and deliver it in that format. So, I am appreciative when they do provide a demo.
@OptometristLime well said, I really like demos. I just tried the Youropa demo and saved money. I liked the look, I like the game play feel, but... the mechanics I don't like. I was dying in ways I didn't understand, and I wouldn't have known it until I bought it.
For a gamer like me who has limited time and money, demos are so worthwhile.
Thank you for writing this! The past few weeks I was looking for a farm sim: I returned to my Stardew Valley and boom: I've already put in another 30 hours and still going.
WRC 10: yikes, I should have read the reviews, wait a minute: I did. But it was on sale. And, I am starting to enjoy it for what it is. Looking for a farm sim, I got sucked back into Stardew and I am loving it. I need to finish the final boss in Tropical Freeze, but I am scared. And a little Rocket League.
More than a year ago I stopped playing after 100 hours and a finished community center. Recently, looking for a farm sim, I started where I left off and I am still loving this game! While I don't have the patience to complete many quests, I do want to make my farm a completely designed, improved area. I am slogging through winter now.
I thought maybe I should try Portia, or Rune Factory, and I tried the Harvestella demo, but I am just not getting the same feeling that I get from Stardew. What a great game!
Deleted the Harvestella demo: it was okay. Went back to farm on Stardew, got in the game loop and loving it. And I am back to being in the season in Rocket League.
I just started up Stardew Valley after a year (I put 100 hours into it) so it was interesting playing this demo while also playing Stardew Valley. Of course Stardew started out very slow for me.
But this article is spot on, as well as the too frequent loading screens. I love the look of this game, but I doubt I will plunge in and get the game, especially for full price.
@Pillowpants I was just thinking the same thing! There are a couple more games I would have bought, but I didn't have the money at the time. But that's okay, I have more than enough games to play.
This past week or so I have gone back to Stardew Valley. After more than a year away, it was easy to come back and I am in a satisfying game loop. Also trying the Harvestella demo, so far so good, more wordy than I anticipated, but it is the beginning of the game. And a little Rocket League.
@MetalKingShield thanks for the info! I love platformers and the Shantae series is in my top three. I rarely replay games, but I think I want that 100% completion. Thanks!

Re: SteamWorld Build Announced, And It Brings A SteamWorld Twist To SimCity
As a Steamworld fan, this looks good. As someone else said: I hope it runs well on switch. If it does, I am getting it.

@stevep likewise I tried demo and deleted pretty quickly.
Re: 'Pocket Card Jockey' Could Come To Switch If Mobile Version Does Well
@Takoda you are right. I did like the game, not the effect. And I didn’t like the circle I wore into my touch screen.

Rocket League!

Happy New Year, Nintendo Life staff!
Thank you for your work!
Re: Talking Point: What Game Do You Replay Every Year?
I simply cannot replay a game. I waited 3 years then tried to replay BotW, quit after a few hours.
There are some games I wish I could replay because I love them so much, but I just lose the motivation.
I suppose that is what I like about gaming, there is always a new twist, a new mechanic, a new art style, a new sound track.

Re: Reminder: Rate Your Favourite Switch Games Of The Year 2022

Second: Travel Mosaics is, I think, a better nonagram game and there are several on Switch, please tell me someone here has played Travel Mosaics.
