Re: 'Full Metal Schoolgirl' Announced For Switch 2, And It Looks Utterly Bonkers

cedarhyped

@Goobplus “Anything with school in the title is at risk” sounds like just a random guess. We don’t know why Neptunia got pulled from Switch, only that it was due to “Nintendo guidelines,” and “school” isn’t even in the title. 100 Line had maybe two CGs blurred, which was minor enough that no one seems to care. Meanwhile, Ecchi Secrets and Hentai Girls After Party both released last month… correction: last week… so yeah — smut’s still clearly allowed.

Re: Dave The Diver Is Getting A Free Switch 2 Upgrade "Soon", Says Mintrocket

cedarhyped

Is this the first free Switch 2 upgrade that wasn’t a launch-day update? I know a bunch of games got patches on day one, but this might be the first one rolling out after the fact.

Honestly, Dave the Diver doesn’t even need it. Fantastic game, but it basically has smartphone graphics and barely any loading—so I’m curious what they’ll actually improve.

Re: Techland Skips Dying Light 'Retouched' Upgrade For Switch, Says There Are No Plans For A Switch 2 Version

cedarhyped

@molkom I doubt they’re bots. There’s definitely a cavalcade of people waiting in the wings for any bad Nintendo news — eager to call the Switch 2 underpowered, claim it’s already losing third-party support, or declare the business model unsustainable. They’ve been unusually quiet since the successful launch (which I’m grateful for), but even a hint of bad news gets blown way out of proportion.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Delivers Its Cyberpunk 2077 Tech Review On Switch 2

The DF hate is wild. People are really stretching to paint them as biased—DF literally says “this is really good,” and somehow that’s proof of an anti-Nintendo agenda because it’s not pure hype? Come on. DF has consistently praised Nintendo when it’s earned. It’s like some people won’t accept anything short of full-throated, no-criticism gushing.

Re: Review: Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time (Switch) - Level-5's Triumphant Sequel Trades Depth For Breadth

cedarhyped

@Fiskern @abbyhitter A neat trick for reading these reviews is if you scroll up from the score past the pro and cons there are more words, like at least twice as many! Here are some of them:

“ Admittedly, that breadth of freedom does come at the cost of Fantasy Life's signature personality. The original game had just one line of exploration, rather than FLi's three, but that meant that it was much more fleshed out: the NPCs were dripping with character, the Lives had their own game-spanning plots, the areas were more distinct and self-contained, and there was just a lot more life in the world, partly because it didn't have a fast-travel system so you spent a lot more time in one area.”

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Dev Tells Studios "Do Not Underestimate The Physical Edition"

cedarhyped

PC gaming ditched physical media like 20 years ago, and it’s doing just fine. Nintendo Switch games regularly hit digital prices comparable to Steam: yes, I’ve been tracking them for years. It usually takes longer because the games launch on Steam first, but if you can handle a bit of patience, the deals come. You’re welcome to yell into the void about quitting games when physical dies, but no one will notice. And I get it, that’s the point. I just want to reassure you: they really, truly won’t notice.

Re: Astral Chain Director/Nier Automata Lead Designer Quits PlatinumGames

cedarhyped

You are acting like Platinum just got hit by a meteor. A couple of well-known names left, cool. Every “visionary” was just some nobody until someone gave them a shot. You’ve all had coworkers who ended up being way better than expected, maybe even better than you. Talent doesn’t vanish when someone leaves; it just shifts. Plenty of amazing people are still at Platinum, and now they get a chance to be called “lead” and mythologized until they leave too. Relax.

Re: Nintendo Lowers Its Hardware Forecast As Switch Sales Slow To A Crawl

cedarhyped

@kedireturns You’re giving the PS2 extra credit for succeeding despite its challenges, piracy, competition, format changes, but then dismissing the Switch’s success because of its own challenges like COVID, chip shortages, and no handheld competition. That’s not consistent. If context matters, it should matter for both. The Switch didn’t get a free ride, it thrived in a tough market with smart design and broad appeal. Like it or not, it’s matched, and arguably surpassed, the PS2’s legacy.

Re: Nintendo Of America President Says Tariffs "Not Factored" Into Switch 2 Price

cedarhyped

@shoeses What exact ‘doom and gloom’ are you referring to? The fact is, a 25% tariff on Japan is being proposed, and Nintendo has already delayed the US pre-order rollout in response. That’s not speculation—that’s literally what’s happening.

Sure, there’s always a chance the final impact on pricing won’t be huge, but acting like it’s irrational to talk about it now doesn’t make much sense. This isn’t fearmongering—it’s just acknowledging that a policy like this could affect prices and release timing, and it already seems to be doing exactly that.

Planning to wait for price drops is fine. Pretending nothing’s going on isn’t.

Re: Nintendo Of America President Says Tariffs "Not Factored" Into Switch 2 Price

cedarhyped

@anoyonmus You’ve suggested shutting down a few threads now, but I don’t see why Nintendo Life would close this one. It’s a rational discussion about a policy that could directly affect the gaming industry. Just because it brushes up against politics doesn’t make it chaos.

If someone proposes tariffs that impact console production and game pricing, it’s going to come up—even if it’s uncomfortable for some Trump supporters. That’s not ‘getting hectic.’ That’s just reality showing up in your hobby.

Re: Nintendo Of America President Says Tariffs "Not Factored" Into Switch 2 Price

cedarhyped

@Ganon821 One-sided bashing? He’s applying one-sided tariffs. On basically the entire world. What kind of coverage are you expecting here: balanced praise?

If a policy screws over global supply chains and jacks up console prices, it’s gonna get called out. That’s not some grand political agenda, it’s just what happens when you pick a fight with everyone all at once.

But sure, go find that mythical games site that reports on major industry disruptions without ever sounding critical. Let us know how that goes.

Re: Nintendo Of America President Says Tariffs "Not Factored" Into Switch 2 Price

cedarhyped

@Overzeal That’s not what I’m reading this morning. Vietnam offered to start the conversation at 0% tariffs, in exchange for 0% tariffs with the US.

Posted three hours ago on CNBC: “White House trade advisor Peter Navarro said Monday that an offer by Vietnam to eliminate tariffs on U.S. imports would not be enough for the administration to lift its new levies announced last week.”

Also, it doesn’t matter if Vietnam goes 0%. It’s the US side that affects the prices for US consumers.

Re: Nier Automata's Dev Was "Ordered" To Ignore What The West Thinks Of His Game

cedarhyped

@Poco_Lypso AC Shadows is the 8th best-selling game on Steam this week and hasn’t dropped out of the top 100 since release. That’s not failure—it’s just not the narrative that “subculture” wants.

The “culture war” crowd is so eager to see games flop, they’ll latch onto any vague comment and pretend it proves their point. Case in point: this Nintendo Life story says nothing specific, but somehow it must be about the usual “woke” stuff. Convenient.
