Re: Review: Namco Museum (Switch eShop)

$3 a game isn't bad, and considering the extras, this collection is well worth it. Of course, someone cough will argue otherwise.

And the way they handled Pac Man Vs. and it's multiplayer is well designed and just also goes to show the effort they clearly put into this collection.

Re: Infinite Minigolf Confirmed for 28th July Arrival on Switch

buildz

It is out, as I comment.

Glad to see they could clear up these issues, and launch not that far behind the other versions. I hope this doesn't put them off producing/releasing future titles (they did say they had more Switch projects in the works, if I recall correctly).

Re: Niantic Is Facing a Class-Action Lawsuit Over Pokémon GO Fest

buildz

@Aerona Agreed.

I can see why this lawsuit was opened, and, in theory, their argument stands. Whether or not it is accepted and tried in court is another story.

Niantic did promise certain luxuries upon purchasing a ticket, and, in whole, they did fail to meet some of them. One could sue them for fraud/misrepresentation, theoretically. In practice, however, their legal team could simply argue that what actually took place wasn't their fault nor intended, and, as a result, their lawsuit is bogus.

Definitely comes across as butthurt, however. Niantic had never done such an event, so, if I was even remotely interested, I would've been extremely cautious given their lack of experience of hosting stage events.

Re: Editorial: amiibo Has Stalled, Because Nintendo is Forgetting What Makes It Special

buildz

Nintendo need to restore functionality to the amiibo. Games like Smash Bros., Mario Tennis Ultra Smash, and Splatoon 2, all give the amiibo a purpose, asides from just unlocking stuff. In the first two, they unlocked NPCs to play with/against, and in Splatoon 2, it allows you to save a loadout of clothes/weapon/controls, along with unlocking gear.

We need more examples like that.

Re: First Impressions: Running Scared from Sonic Forces

buildz

Whilst this article is vague in the worst places, and too subjective, and should've been an opinion piece - this, and other impressions, further cements the fact Sonic Team just cannot get a 3D game right consistently.

Another point worth mentioning is that the level design seems flat for pretty much almost every character type; whilst this impacts Modern Sonic the least it ruins Classic Sonic and Avatar Stages.

Slippery control aside, the whole thing is a shockingly amateur affair, and should be a wake-up call for Sonic fans - 3D games just don't work well. 2D is the way forward for Sonic.

At least Mania looks good - no; amazing - no; outstanding. Honestly, they should give that team a shot at a 3D Sonic game. They'd probably do better. Give them a decent budget and time (something Sega doesn't give enough of) and I'm sure they'd make a decent product..

Re: Nintendo Unveils the Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Famicom for Japan

buildz

@RedMageLanakyn @SLIGEACH_EIRE Yeah, they probably do. Since you can grab them from the side they most likely pull out with a tab. I mean, it's not ideal, but it helps to make the console look more authentic when on a shelf not being used, which is no doubt helpful for collectors.

Also that confirms then that the console will only support two controllers at one time, meaning that games like Secret of Mana are gonna be awkward, since they have 3 player functionality with the Multitap, yet that can't be used, so I wonder how that game will play now.

Re: Poll: Are You Excited About the Super NES Classic Edition?

buildz

@FTL I just hope the two games don't run at a poor framerate, by perhaps emulating an overclocked Super FX chip instead, since, let's be honest, I think we'd all rather play Star Fox /+2 at something closer to 30fps, even if it isn't perfect.

Of course, Yoshi's Island didn't use the Super FX chip heavily so it wouldn't be an issue there.

Re: Thankfully, Europe Is Getting A More Handsome SNES Classic Mini

buildz

@Hikingguy I am aware about the difference in philosophy from then versus now. It doesn't change the fact that games such as Ninja Gaiden aren't as appealing as they once were due to their purposely difficult design attempting to (back then) make the game longer. It was never fair to be knocked off a platform and be forced to start a level over due to an obstacle you couldn't see back then, and it still isn't now. I can understand this, but to the average consumer, they may not, and may just give up.

This is why I feel the Mini SNES is more appealing; there are more multiplayer titles, and the emphasis isn't so much on arcade-style experiences but longer, more thoughtful, well designed games instead, which, I understand, is generally due to the types of games released on the platform.

Re: Thankfully, Europe Is Getting A More Handsome SNES Classic Mini

This lineup, while smaller, is more appealing, because, whilst the NCM:NES had 30 titles, a lot of them were bad, particularly for their difficulty. I believe the price is also higher because of the fact you get 2 controllers and that you are paying for essentially an all-new game (Star Fox 2).
