I downloaded the demo of this, was scared by the text-to-speech (and the selected tone/speed), and then made him reference sweets and being 'Weed'. Good times. I agree with the score.
Eugh. The attitude in the Metroid fanbase is some of the worst I've ever seen. I'm not a Metroid fan, and I never will be, but, you guys should be appreciating the fact Nintendo even bothered to make a Metroid game. How would you react if they continued to ignore the series? You'd still complain, and then run back to your fan-games (which, Nintendo have all right to take down).
Of course, my sentiments don't apply to all the fans, only the very vocal ones who feel they're 'entitled' to something else.
God, the Metroid fans are some of the worst.
@Ninten-san Meanwhile we're still waiting for a concrete release date... Come on Capcom! Still, with Gamescom soon, we should get a release date then, I guess.
@Dakt I'd think an Animal Crossing game might appeal to more people and would thus make the AC games more popular but I can't imagine the same impact for Fire Emblem.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE "sometimes negative nature" Only sometimes, I said. The meaning of negative is to be against something, and, sometimes, you are vocal about being against something. It's your honest opinion, and that's great, but it still counts as being negative. I don't mean 'negative' as in 'oh he doesn't agree with me', as I'm also sometimes negative.
@Clipse So, I've finished the episode, and I have to admit, it's better than I was expecting. The puzzles all make really good use of the GamePad, including the colour puzzles and camera/lock puzzles, and the graphics certainly suit the overall theme and soundtrack well. The plot is quite ambiguous at this stage, leaving a lot to be questioned, but works well to drive the player forward. My only gripe is the fact you have to restart entire levels over, especially the last one, given how long it is. Some puzzles can be very frustrating and trial and error based, but this only applies to like one puzzles. Also the soundtrack is somewhat repetitive, but it isn't bad by any means. Finally, the Episode is quite short, but for £3 (well, what should've been £3) it isn't worth arguing over. When the game is complete, it'll have enough content.
Definitely one of the better uses of the GamePad, and it rivals games such as 6180 the moon.
@Clipse You know what, I actually might take you up on your offer. I can't definitely say it's poorly executed until I've played it, can I? I guess I'm too used to doing that on RCMADIAX's reviews.
And if I enjoy it, I'll be even more inclined to support the future episodes. I guess videos can actually portray what this game is like, since I watched one by NintenDaan and it just didn't look good (the video, not the game) since the GamePad was missing...
I think they'll formally announce these games along with the NX sometime in the next two months, and advertise their cross-functionality (along with their respective games, perhaps). Regarding the NX, I don't want to personally believe it's a tablet-hybrid, but if that's the form it takes... so be it.
I like this update. The music when you play Candy Drop is pretty cool; I also like the improvements to the general UI of the app, along with some performance fixes. Definitely makes the app feel more polished as a result.
Anyway, looking forward to my free Bowser T-Shirt tomorrow (for Europe, at least).
Improve the graphics and sound, and take the advice pointed out by Tim in his review, Wiz, and you should be well on your way to an 8/10 game. Well done, regardless. Still, this looks pretty fun!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Well, what did I say? I just knew there would be an excuse. People are annoyed because you keep doing it, and that, most of the time, for no real reason; so what if you get the first post?
It doesn't personally bother me, but it's something that clearly others aren't happy with. Also the extreme negativity in the majority (not all; read this carefully - NOT EVERY POST) probably doesn't help; then again, none of this particularly bothers me personally, but is probably why it bothers others.
I suppose that you could naturally include demos into this category of 'free downloads', and whilst demos are quite sparse on Nintendo hardware, when they are there, they're pretty good, in my opinion.
I've not played any of his works, but I've heard IronFall: Invasion isn't half bad, and RISE: Race the Future looks very interesting, so this is a sad loss indeed. My condolences go his family, friends and colleagues.
I am quite enjoying Blast Ball, even if I think it is WAY TOO LUCK BASED and can be quite annoying if you don't have good team mates or a good enough grip on the controls, however, it's still a lot of fun. Especially against the CPU; they're challenging, but not unfair.
This isn't going to change the fact I'm not going to purchase Federation Force as I'm not a fan of Metroid (I've never played one), so I don't think a spin-off is the best way to introduce me to such a critically acclaimed series.
Nice. Pre-ordered the one with the 8-bit Mario Plush. This is further proof that the UK Official Store is the best place to buy Nintendo stuff, period.
Demos don't usually get their own game page, nor does this page actually reference any time limit of any sort, meaning, yes, Europe has got the entire game for free.
@ULTRA-64 Not at all; it should be a thing anyway - stops us from wasting money on games that are bad. Screenshots aren't always the most useful tool in telling us the quality of a game; actually playing it, however, is.
Probably gonna try Mario and Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Demo, to see if it's worth a purchase or not. I don't believe this game was deserving of a low Metacritic, so I'll have to see. Props to Nintendo for being on point with demos lately; last week we had the Star Fox Zero/Guard (which allows you to play all of Corneria and access a lot of online features), and now... Hopefully this works for them in the long run.
Looks really, really good. Definitely going to pick this up somewhere around it's release; I like this style of graphics, so, for me, this seems intriguing (in a good way, of course).
I feel that Nintendo did an okay job at trying to attract people that aren't casuals to their system (COD: Ghosts, Bayonetta 2, Devil's Third, etc.), but the gimmick held it back. If Nintendo (or third parties) put out a few more 'mature' games, whilst also ensuring the console is easy to develop for (so, not overly gimmicky) and they have some quality first party titles, the NX could do quite well. Whilst I'm sure it won't push as many consoles as the Wii did (I don't think anything will), I'm confident the NX will sell more than the Wii U (then again, anything will) and maybe the Gamecube/N64.
It all depends on how well Nintendo market the system and, well, what the console actually is. I'm also sure that Nintendo will drop the Wii name this time and move on, knowing how much the Wii name has been damaged.
Glad to see an article talking about this topic; I'll put it bluntly - if the NX bombs, Nintendo are screwed in the home console market. With console sales going down from generation to generation (excluding the Wii), Nintendo need to do something, and quick, to turn things around.
My hope is that the NX tries to remain somewhat "normal", whilst also adding it's own unique twists (amiibo support, for example) to set it aside from the competition without making it too hard to develop for. If it ends up being too difficult for third parties to develop for, we'll end with no games and it'll die even quicker than the Wii U. Though, I honest doubt that will happen.
E3 did a great job at keeping me happy for the remainder of the year, yet, all it did, was leave me more uncertain for the start of next year? If we look at when Paper Mario Color Splash launches (using the North American release date), and when Breath of the Wild launches, there's a 5 month gap.
We aren't seriously gonna have a five month gap in games, are we?
A retail game for the Wii U would really help plug a gap the console will eventually suffer from in the coming months. Releasing it around July/August would probably be the best choice, in my opinion. Besides that, the two games are well deserving of a retail spot!
@Yellowkoopa Yet there was a second day dedicated to other games...
Regardless, I'm very pleased with this E3. I can't wait for Paper Mario: Color Splash (cue angry fans) due to it's graphics, music, storyline and gameplay (cue even more angry fans) and Mario Party: Star Rush since I am intrigued as to where the game is heading, regardless if others think it is "bad". I like the music and it actually seems like they're trying to innovate, even if that "innovation" isn't going to be well received by fans.
I feel that Mario Party has to move away from the traditional format since the same game over and over again would get dull and would eventually turn people off and thus result in a loss of sales. I'm sure people will be satisfied with the new Mario Party, I guess we just have to wait and see.
I was shocked by how far Zelda had come since the Game Awards 2014, with a charming artstyle and new gameplay that actually made it engaging to watch, in my eyes. Certainly not the best E3 (it was really slow at points) but not the worst either.
I was also surprised by Capcom showing off Spirit of Justice in English; now we wait for the eShop demo (which cannot be far away, given the fact the demo has clearly been localised at this point).

Again, I'm happy with this year's E3; at least the Treehouse team didn't look like they were trying hard to be funny, moreover, it felt natural.
