It's been churning around the rumour mill for a while, and a European retail listing gave some more hope, but now we know that WWE 2K18 is definitely coming to Nintendo Switch.
Nintendo UK posted the following video with the news, which also confirms a pre-order bonus character of Kurt Angle.
The release is due on various platforms on 17th October, so we hope it'll be that date on Nintendo's system, too.

Are you excited to see this series come to the Nintendo Switch?

Nice this will please a few people, I'm happy for fans!
First WWE game for Nintendo since WWE 13 on the Wii. What a result. Exactly the third party support we need. FIFA and WWE the same year.
Nice!!! Now to get Fire pro on it and I'll be all set with wrestling games.
This is where the switch kills it,if this wasn't on switch I wouldn't touch it,but portability factor sells it for me.
Now if we can confirm it's an actual full fledged title and not a portable butchered port like they have done in the past for 3ds or psp, that would make this a killer title to have
wow this is a great coup for Nintendo, the Switch is perfect for this.
@MagnaRoader Judging by the fact that NBA 2k18 for Switch is the same as the PS4/X1 version, I would assume that this will also have parity.
Now if this is close enough to the Xbox One version I'll grab it on switch instead.
It should be after all their PSP titles was almost featured complete
Im happy for the people who want this.
Inb4 the switch version is a second-handed port that's missing crucial features that the other versions have.
I'll buy this if the Red Rooster is an available wrestler.
They need to port the REAL wrestling games to Switch. Virtual Console N64 releases of WCW/NWO Revenge, Wrestlemania 2000 and WWF No Mercy!
Who is that guy? Well last time i saw WWF was when Undertaker was the "American Badass"
But glad it's coming to switch, it should bring in more people and multiplayer should be pretty good.
This is great news! Not that I am a fan of this series in particular, but it is nice to see 2k Games waking up to the Switch portable and multiplayer potential. now if only we could get "WWE All-Stars 2"... or dare I dream "WWE Day of Reckoning 3"!?
Already seeing much better third party support for the Switch between this and Xenoverse 2 I'm quite happy already. AAA hardware pushing titles just clearly isn't what the Switch is intended to handle but ports like these are excellent. Now if we could only get Dragonball Fighters Z I'd be ecstatic.
This is a big get for Switch. I never have played a wrestling game, but I know there are lots of fans. If this is a good version, I might even pick it up. I want to show that Switch owners will actually purchase GOOD third party games.
It's a win on a Monday morning.
Now is it too much to ask that Switch game announcements get treated like releases on other consoles? Where's DQ11? I'm OK w/ FIFA the game being different, Switch is a tribrid do it can have different types of game play, but marketing, advertising, announcements, it's like companies are afraid to promote them.
Who cares. This game sucks. Same game
Same player
different number
Awesome news. Glad it's coming to the Switch.
Not for me, but good news. The fact I've been watching (and really enjoying) GLOW on Netflix aaaaalmost makes me actually want this.
This will almost certainly be a guilty pleasure for me very soon. I feel so lame wanting this, but I so totally do!
@olrodlegacy precisely. I'd never touch either FIFA or WWE but it's the 3rd party stuff that people want.
Apparently it is the same day as other versions.
http://www.wwe.com/section/wwe-2k18/article/wwe-2k18-nintendo-switch-announcement
Same game
Same player different number
Cant believe ppl still believe the hype the last good game they had was HERE COMES THE PAIN and that time was 12 yrs ago
I'll wait for reviews as not touched a wrestling game since around 1995
@Bunkerneath That's certainly been a long time ago, especially considering they changed from WWF to WWE in like 2002 or 2003.
@therealgamer People..... who want it..... care.....? If you're essentially Nintendo-only for your gaming experiences, as I have been, you haven't seen a WWE game since they were published by THQ, and it came out for the Wii. That's a full generational gap for both handhelds and home consoles. Even if you don't care about the game personally, it shows that major publishers are willing to start taking risks bringing "AAA" games to the system. We got exactly 1 2K-published game on Wii U, which was NBA 2K13. We're already topping that on Switch. This is uniformly good news for anyone who wants to see more "AAA" titles on the Switch. Publishers are at least trying, and if they succeed, more games will come. How the heck could this be construed as a bad thing?
Aww yeah! Another third party sports game I'll never pick up! Great!
Hating aside it's obviously gonna help the switch encourage other third parties to develop and port games to the switch, props to Nintendo and 2Kgames
@Bunkerneath Seth Rollins, formerly known as Tyler Black on the independent circuit. Actually a very talented guy, one of the best Phoenix Splash users I've ever seen.
@Equinox I never understood comments like this. Obviously, if you don't follow the series (sport?) you won't know the characters (athletes?). As a guy who vicariously follows wrestling through co-workers, I can tell you that this guy is Seth Rollins and he is a big deal in WWE. He's no John Cena or The Rock, but he's been in the spotlight for at least the last 3 or 4 years.
@Yasaal
*Super Edit: Wrestling games are not sports games. At least I never thought of them as such because of the cartoon levels of violence and how the systems are still very "gamey" compared to a Madden or NBA. Outside of being portrayed by real people, everything about it is as fictional as your favorite animated series. And just like Naruto or DragonBall get licensed games based on their respective fictions, so does wrestling.
So that's why Nintendo NY has retweeted a WWE's post.
I really hope the other guys at work pick this up. I've been wanting to smack them around for years.
And another game I will want but not have the time for. Awesome
@landlord14 But with the Switch, the other guys don't need to pick it up.
If my memory is correct, recent WWE games weigh-in (pun intended) at 50+ gigabytes... I helped my nephew update one of his WWE games on XB1 and the update was around 40GB!!!
How on earth are they going to fit this on a Switch Cartridge and expect anywhere near the same presentation?
Are the developers really going to put that much effort into making the programming less bloated?
This is fantastic news for me, wrestling on the go.....er yes please and thank you very much
@DatFunkySmell Dude, Wrestling is a sport, everyone knows that. Just because it contains violence doesn't mean it can't be a sport. Heck (off topic) even the Gladiator stuff the Romans did was a sport, well in their words...
@Indielink well I hope so but they did screw over all the wii gamers back in the day so I really just want them to confirm the completeness of our version. Please let it be so
This is awesome news! It remains to be seen how it'll measure up compared to the PS4/Xbox One versions. At the very least I hope it runs at 60fps.
I would get it but still don't have a Switch lol
All good, until we find out it doesn't have a career mode and has fewer wrestlers...
Day 1 purchase for me (as long as the version isn't terrible). I can see myself playing this on the train.
Well, Nintendo scored with this. I will be getting this day one, barring some weird catastrophe. I am hoping for more of these types of announcements. Cheers!!
I haven't bought wrestling games in a very long time.
Guess that's changing later this year.
Great !
If it's as good as the WcW vs NWO there were on N64, it's gonna be real fun : those games were awesome.
But what's with the trailer with no gameplay footage ?
Now this is something i can get my claws into. Not fussed if it's built on the ps3 or 360 version as those still have some pretty graphics and if they can hit a buttery smooth 30 or 60 fps that would be even better.
Nice!!
@holygeez03 Remember, a lot of games aren't optimized fully which leads to large file sizes. I am actually very encouraged that they are bringing this. As long as it is the full game, it is great! Take care.
If this can stay somewhat faithful to the PS4/Xbox One version I may get this on Switch. I still say WWE/WWF games were better back on the N64, GameCube, and PS2 days though.
@MarioPhD See this is a problem with gamers today. Oh yes the Switch have AAA third party game!!!
The game came out and missing features with the ps4 and xbox one counterparts.
Go to hell 2k. why you did not include some of the game modes
I don't care the switch have AAA games. I care about how good the games are. WWE 2k game never good and yes I play them on the ps4. These games are just attention grab.
I posted about the Irish Gamestop link only last week in the forums. Posted it into the site too but they mustn't have noticed it.
https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/nintendo-switch/what_do_you_think_the_nx_is_poll?start=16000#reply-16006
It's good to get official confirmation at last. I hope it looks good and isn't some watered down, gimped, features missing version.
I likes last year's on the PS4. I think I'll buy it on the Switch.
Not buying FIFA though!
http://tdewrestling.com/image/162809202834
Sealing the deal. XD
But on a serious note, I think this version will have legs regardless of missing features or not. The portability factor like all games, but also using both joycons to do 2 player anytime with anyone for a large amount of matches. Heck, find 5 other players can you can Elimination Chamber and Money in the Bank anywhere you go.
YES!!
Ow... wrestling...
I prefer Kickboxing or K-1 World GP.
@Yasaal Wrestling is a sport. WWE is not wrestling. WWE is sports entertainment. It is not competitive. It is all scripted and predetermined. Like a tv show, which it is.
I think what you're trying to say is that what the WWE performers do requires a massive amount of skill, talent and athletic ability? Which is absolutely correct. WWE just uses the "sport" of wrestling to an extent.
@Moms-Meowth "buttery smooth" and "30fps" don't belong in the same sentence together.
WHAT!? No port issues or just plain skipping.
WWE on Switch will be based off the current gen versions.
Seems like all of Take 2's big 2017 games are coming to Switch lol...
Great
Not interested in wrestling games but It Gives the Switch a much needed sports title and adds a bit of variety to the Switch library!
@Menchi187 they do when it comes to console games that aren't shooters
These days whenever I read about wrestling I can only think of that South Park episode with WTF.
Right on!
I'll give er a try. Not into wrestling but, I love playing games on Switch everywhere I go, and I used to have fun playing wrestling games on N64.
They just got a sale, cause I wouldn't have cared to buy it on other consoles
Think i almost screamed
Great! this is one of the most played titles by my son on his PS4. I think that we will hold a bit until I buy a Switch.
Good, now I know I can trade in my PS4!
Nice! This will be on my list
This is a good day
I...I...I LOVE YOU 2K!!
@Equinox Plenty of adults do. And to be honest, it was the fact that Vince and the industry as a whole finally dropped the veil on the whole thing that made it even more exciting to watch. I haven't watched regularly in about 10 years. But I was a teenager during the Attitude Era. I can tell you from first hand experience that it became much more fun and entertaining when Pro Wrestling really embraced what it was and what it could be.
And ultimately, its no different really than watching your favorite network or cable drama. The only issue wrestling (and.specifically WWE) has right now is the lack of viable competition.
@Moms-Meowth No. 30fps is not smooth. Motion is motion. 30fps is not smooth in motion. No matter the type of game.
As far as the actual announcement and game, this will probably be the first wrestling game I'll have purchased in quite some time. I think the last one I bought and played was Raw vs Smackdown 2009.
Surely the Switch version should have a tag-team on the front? Ha.
Anyway, I haven't been a wrestling fan since the attitude era (though weirdly I still maintain a morbid fascination with it through some very entertaining wrestling Youtube channels), but this kind of third-party support is always good to see.
Really happy that there is another nice piece of third party software to add to the Switch's library. I hope this succeeds and draws in more developers and games!
@holygeez03 Was it ever said that there was a maximum amount a Switch cartridge could be or hold? I know the standard was 16GB, which many assumed meant the minimum. But this sort of implied that the cartridge could hold more data than that
Welcome back to Nintendo, WWE.
I won't buy as it's WWE and I can't stand that rubbish. Big pro-wrestling fan but not a chance I buying a WWE game. Japanese pro-wrestling is what I watch.
Anyway it's great news for switch that it's getting another major third party release.
Now just need fire pro Wrestling
Fantastic news for the Switch. I've never played a WWE game, but I'll certainly give it a try.
@UmbreonsPapa nah Pro Wrestling shouldn't be some silly soap opera. That's why I stopped watching WWE. I couldn't stand them silly storylines. Pro wrestling for me should be hard hitting and promoted as fighting competition.
At least we're getting the 2k sports games for the switch. Will likely buy it since I have not played a wwe game since 13
The main appeal with WWE games to me eas having the ability to create cutscenes with custom characters and editing together 'highlight reel videos'. Unfortunately thats all been dropped as of WWE 2k15. Id rather wait til they at least restore that functionality or improve it before getting one of these again.
Buzzing for this! I used to love wwe games dsy one for me. Gosh my wallet is screaming no more with amount i will be spending on games in the next few months. Bring it!!!!
I honestly do not like wrestling games, but judging from these comments many people do, and the mere fact that this is more 3rd party support is awesome.
Great for fans who own a Switch. Not my cup of tea but you can't like everything.
I really hope 2k give us some old school arcadey gameplay like how the game used to be played back on the ps2 and early on the ps3. Also 2 players would be fun with 1 joy con each. Lets hope 2k can pull it off. Glad its coming that 3rd party support is getting stronger and stronger. Nintendo are doing a great job.
@kobashi100 Then I take it you've never been a fan of American pro wrestling to begin with? As long as I've been watching it, its always been a glorified soap opera (to varying degrees).
@StarmanSSP That would probably kill sells except among 5 year olds.
@Equinox A majority of fans are adults and it's hard to not call it a sport if golf is considering how physically demanding it is. People get hurt and even die wrestling all the time.
@UmbreonsPapa I was a fan until I discovered Japanese Pro wrestling in about 1996. Saw how it had no silly storylines, was promoted as legit fighting competition and best of all hard hitting
After that I found myself finding it hard to watch WWE and eventually stopped completely. Have never been back.
It's a sport, it's entertainment. One could even brand it as a hybrid of the two.
It's a handheld. It's a console. One could even brand it as a hybrid of the two.
I'll maybe pick this up, depending on how the final version looks.
Just having the Hardy Boyz back in a WWE game is going to be great.
Am no fan of wrestling but awesome news for fans, Nintendo and gamers alike! All about the 3rd party support! Boom
Do they feature retro characters? If I can play as Randy Savage I'm buying it Day One. OH YEAH!
@Menchi187 True dat WWE isn't true wrestling but the game isn't faked (lol). WWE the franchise is fake wrestling but obviously WWE the game is a sports game as wrestling is a sport even though it's based on a fake franchise as there's obviously no staged acts while people play the game
@Lizuka did it work in WWE 2k17 as well as it did in WWE 13? I heard it was gutted it in the sequel and lost a lot of its original functionality.I liked that the original allowed trimming, graphic effects, insertation, commentary/sfx etx.
@kobashi100 Fair enough. I can see how the theatrics of it all can be a turn off for some
released on my birthday look wife take hint buy this not something I dont want
The PS4 versions have been missing the custom music feature which I loved in the PS3 games, if they do bring that back I will consider it, but otherwise no dice.
@Yasaal @Yasaal Wrestling is a sport. WWE wrestling is the Globetrotters. It's an act where stuntmen play characters. There is no "sport" to be found.
I haven't played are wrestling game since the 64. Does this series have a create a character and is it any good? If so I might have to buy this game and revive my old character Mighty Cow, some that guy was invincible and I could never make another character that could challenge him.
Ahhh, the good ol' days.
@MagnaRoader In what department you mean, graphics or cut content?
@StarmanSSP "They need to put Roman Reigns on the cover if they want it to sell."
What? Are you trolling?
No one likes Roman Reigns... Especially not the buying audience for these games.
I got WWE 2k16 free on my xbox one and it's a weird game. It looks and sounds great. But the controls take a long time to figure out. I'm still not sure if its a good game because it was frustrating. It's a reversal based system. Just difficult to master. Seeing as how I can't find a Switch, I can't say ill buy the game. However, if Bret Hart is in the game, I'm going to have to find a Switch. Bret Hart was the greatest wrestler I ever saw. Meeting him was amazing. I'd love to slap a sharpshooter on some fool.
IT'S STILL REAL TO ME DAMMIT!
Anybody see that one match where the referee got knocked out and the heel clocked the guy from behind and then pinned that dude just when the ref came to? That one was my favorite.
I may have my problems with the TV product, but luckily, I don't have to push Roman Reigns in my gameplay. Definite pick-up for me.
Leave it to the Architect to /rebuild/ WWE relations with Nintendo fans. ;P
@Priceless_Spork That was a good one. I like the classics like that one where Hulk Hogan was getting a beat down for the entire match and then suddenly for no apparent reason he got up and shook his head, stomped around the ring and won with a kick to the face and an atomic leg drop. You couldn't write stuff like that!
Great stuff. We get this every year and our PS4 went to that great console maker in the sky a few months ago. But the Switch is working just fine.
@Shiryu
This!!! This!!! This!!! We NEED Day Of Reckoning 3!!! I know wrestling games peaked with No Mercy, but I think people so often overlook and/or forget just how damn good the Day Of Reckoning series were, and how close they were in terms of game play to No Mercy. If this series was on the PS2 instead back in the day I think it'd be a whole different story. Even WrestleMania X-8 and XIX were incredible, but they lacked the depth of the Day Of Reckoning series.
@GuruOfGreatness It's like they forgot hot to make fun wrestling games at some point down the road.

@Shiryu
Just read your article, great read Well done that man.
I don't think I've ever been so hyped and then so disappointed for a wrestling game as I was the original Legends Of Wrestling.
@GuruOfGreatness Acclaim could never deliver, especially that late in the game...
Here's hoping the WWE Network ends up on the Switch as well.
