Mega Evolutions are set to appear in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, making this the first time that these specific Pokémon evolution stages will make an appearance in a Kanto region game.
The news comes from early CoroCoro magazine scans shared by Serebii.net; as you can see below, images of Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise's mega evolutions are shown with each Pokémon being used in battle.
Serebii notes that this new scan confirms that these evolutions will once again activate when you have the appropriate Key Stone, as well as the Pokémon's associated Mega Stone. Just last week, a new line of figures for these Pokémon were also announced, causing rumours to circulate around their appearance in the new games. As it turns out, of course, these assumptions have now turned out to be true.
We expect lots more news surrounding the new Pokémon titles to appear over the next couple of months as we near the release date, so make sure to keep checking back for more. Until then, though, let us know if you're happy to see the return of mega evolutions in the comments below.

The new mega leak seems more real with the day. (Gamefreak trademarked new gen 1 mega’s for merchandise)
Apperantly the new mega’s are gen 8 pokemon but let’s go will introduce all new gen 1 mega’s.
Edit: the new mega’s were part of the same leak and trademark as this leak.
If all current mega Pokemon are in Let's Go, that also implies at least Gen 2 types too (Mega Gyraedos is Water-Dark). And thus gen2+ moves. Good news.
Alright, I get that a Mega evolve requires a stone for each specific mon. But does that evolution have a new pokedex number? Is the evolution permanent? I played up to diamond/pearl. I tried ultra moon for awhile, but there's just too much new stuff going on.
Interesting...
The fact that this is considered big news is pretty sad, this game really is just going to be Yellow in HD with little else.
@Kamalen Yes. All current Pokémon types are in Pokémon Let's Go. They have already said Alolan Pokémon are available and that means you can have dark type Pokémon which would be otherwise completely unobtainable. I was actually wondering why there were so many Gen 1 Dark type Alolan forms back when Sun & Moon came out but it seems they were thinking ahead. And we've seen moves that were introduced in later generations as well. I'd guess it has every move that the first 151 Pokémon can learn in the newest games.
@HobbitGamer No. Mega Evolutions don't have Pokédex numbers. The evolution can be triggered inside a battle by pressing a dedicated button when the Pokémon is holding its Mega Stone. Once the battle ends, your Mega Pokémon is back to normal.
@HobbitGamer Mega Evolutions aren't new Pokémon and don't have their own Pokedex entries. They're just Pokémon souped up and they're not permanent and you can only use one mega evolution per battle
@Kamalen But we already knew that. We know that Alolan forms are in the game. Alolan Rattata, Raticate, Meowth, Persian, Grimer, and Muk are Dark-Types, Sandshrew, Sandslash, Diglett, and Dugtio are Steel, and Ninetales is Fairy. Also, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't revert Magnemite, Magneton, Clefairy, Clefable, Jigglypuff, Wigglytuff, and Mr. Mime to their old types.
But then again, Pokémon Quest only has gen 1 Pokémon as well, and only their original forms, but it also has Dark moves, even though no Pokémon is that type in the game.
@HobbitGamer Mega Evolutions are more like Digimon evolutions, they’re a temporary form change in battle that boosts a Pokémon’s power and can change stats and abilities. And no, they don’t have decent numbers.
@Kamalen Steel, Dark and Fairy type will all have to be in it as you can import from Pokémon Go which has the updated types for Gen 1 Pokémon. They've also confirmed Alolan forms will be in Let's Go which also use the newer types as well as, as you mentioned, the now confirmed Mega versions.
@UmbreonsPapa They do have their own Pokédex entries in the gen 7 games.
@Krisi Was that the case in X&Y? Maybe that's where my disconnect is happening. I don't seem to recall they having one in Gen 6. While I've collected Mega Stones in Sun and Moon, I've actually never used them.
Thanks @Bolt_Strike @UmbreonsPapa @Late
@Kamalen We already knew that. Alolan forms are in with those types. (which... makes sense, considering Alolan forms were specifically typed to make up for the lack of ice, ghost, dark and dragon Pokemon in Kanto)
Kind of strange that newer forms of old Pokémon are in the game but not their new evolutions. Boggles my mind.
Ohgod why
Wait, gamefreak isn't about to shove more Mega Evolutions down our throats, are they???
@HobbitGamer
In my opinion, I think it's better if you play XY, instead of Sun and Moon/ Ultra Sun and Moon. XY were more fun, had better music, etc. I didn't like Sun and Moon as much as XY. To be honest, XY are my favorite Pokemon games. Mega Evolution were first introduced in XY.
@UmbreonsPapa
I think mega evolution do appear in the Pokedex, but as a different form of the Pokemon. So they share the same Pokedex number, but you can switch to see the mega form in the Pokedex.
Sounds cool to me. I know not everyone was big on them, but I like Mega Evolution just fine. I also had no issue with the idea of Z-moves. However the fact that the animations were so long, and older 3DS units could barely handle it, leading to a very noticeable delay when using them, was annoying.
More and more Let's Go is looking like it's being used as a test game for Game Freak that they can sell. It will let them learn about developing on the Switch, play with ideas a bit, and practice making HD 3D models of Pokemon. Then that experience and knowledge will hopefully carry over to a higher quality mainline RPG next year.
I for one do still intend to get this game on day 1. Because it's still a Pokemon game and it still seems like it will be fun.
"Mega Charizard X in HD!"
Yeah cause Pokken Tournament isn't a thing OH WAIT
I have no problem with the Megas and I personally hope they introduce a few more. Also, more baby forms and evolutions for useless Pokémon like Dunsparce, etc.
And it is very sad they have trashed Kalos so fast to go with Sun/Moon. Z or XZ/YZ versions would have been so cool.
The real question is: can we transfer our pokemon from Go (gen 2 and 3) into let's go? They have the models and data so I don't see why not
@GamePerson19 It's been previously confirmed that only Gen 1 pokemon will be transferrable.
I don't think we'll be getting new Megas (even though I really want new Megas), but I am glad they are giving more attention to the feature again now.
I'm okay with this. I usually prefer Mega Evolutions to Z-moves, though I do admit that the latter is less restrictive since pretty much any Pokemon can use them.
@Heavyarms55: I get the impression that Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee are test games as well. I plan on getting one of the two and don't see why some people still moan about something that hasn't even been released yet.
@Bolt_Strike Digimon evolutions are permenant outside of the anime (which has lore reasons for why they're temporary). Digimon is the boy-targeted version of Tamagotchi. All of the "evolutions" are actually just growth development stages. That's why the forms go from: Baby II -> Baby I -> Child -> Adult -> Perfect -> Ultimate.
Yes. I love more Mega Evolutions than Z-Crystals. They added an unnecessary layer of dept with them since any Pokémon can carry any of them with no reliable way to predict it other than experience and luck.
I'll take Megas over Z Moves any day, I'm cool with this.
@UmbreonsPapa No, they didn't. It's kinda weird they added some in gen 7, especially that not even every "normal" Pokémon have Pokédex entries there, just the ones available in Alola.
Anyway, I agree that they are not completely different Pokémon. They are more like Alolan forms, so a different form to an already established Pokémon.
I sure hope they don't come up with Mega Flareon,Jolteon and Vaporeon because that would be unfair. And plus Alolan Raichu,Persian and Golem is already enough.
