The upcoming free-to-play life sim Disney Dreamlight Valley looks to be a cosy time — even if you are saving the titular location from some kind of evil — and developer Gameloft has shared a brand new trailer for the game which showcases some of those lovely vibes.
Our sister site Push Square reported on the trailer earlier this morning, and while we've compared the game to Animal Crossing a few times, the game also has a little bit of Stardew Valley in how you interact with the famous Disney characters, and how you explore the world of Dreamlight Valley.
You'll be able to go fishing, gardening, do some cooking, or even decorate your home with furniture. There will also be a number of customisation options for your avatar, including some magical Disney-inspired outfits. WALL-E, Moana, Goofy, Merlin, and Remy are all there to offer a helping hand, but you'll also need to get stuck in and help them return their home to the way it was.
Early access for the game launches on 6th September, and you can pre-register for this over on the game's official website.
What do you think of Disney Dreamlight Valley so far? Who do you want to hang out with? Let us know down below!

I'm sure my kids will spend hours playing this game.
I already smelled F2P behind the game so no thanks.
Edit: btw, why peoples keep calling Stardew Valley style?
It was Harvest Moon did first.
It's too bad that this will end up like another predatory Free to play microtransaction mess.
It has the ideas and setting of what could've been a great buy to play title. Oh well
Yeah, this is one of those games that will attract kids like flies to a corpse. I'm afraid a lot of parents better beware the infamous mouse!
I see Gameloft is the developer and I immediately associate this as being a live service, microtransaction heavy, cash grabby game. Please, don't fall into the trap. Just...go play Stardew Valley or whatever other sim-life game that has your attention.
Wait, Disney being involved in a Free to Play cash grabber?
No! I dont believe it!!
It's not like they are flogging Star Wars and Marvel to death or anything
I like the idea behind the game, it looks good, it sounds fun, but I want more old-school ond obscure old characters. Gimme The three little pigs, Brer Rabbit, Hiawatha, Ichabod Crane, Johnny Appleseed, Ferdinan the bull and Pecos Bill.
Looks pretty damn neat, but the date threw me off for a bit - I thought "early access" was something like a beta run to test server strain, but it looks like a limited premium head start instead, neither option mentioning Switch to begin with. Oh well, let's get back to this conversation in 2023, then. Hope still springs eternal for Disney Speedstorm and maybe even Genshin Impact showing up earlier.
@Magician if that's your take, make sure to follow this advice yourself - people who genuinely can't imagine playing an MTX-filled game without spending money on it are a risk group indeed. But nerds like myself came to this stuff for the grind, come to this stuff for the grind and will continue to come to this stuff for the grind.😆
@Bunkerneath or, more relevantly, licensing dozens of other F2P games and apps for years now in the first place. Heck, Switch should be also getting the aforesaid Speedstorm soon.
And all in all, if someone wants this kind of gameplay with Disney characters but for a retail pricetag, isn't Magical World 2 just three doors down?
Put Tiana and Elisa Maza in it and I am down.
@Bunkerneath you mean like how nintendo does the same with their franchises like Kirby/Mario/Zelda/Pokemon?
Magical World 2 was a great surprise hit for me. It also felt more like it was made for kids not teens. Since this is a free to play game, I will pass this one anyway. There are too many good games to grind for too long on one game.
Honestly, this being free-to-play is the only way I'd be willing to download it. Microtransactions can be super scummy, but this is the exact sort of game I'm curious enough to want to try, but am not interested enough to actually purchase. So being able to mess around with it for a bit for free and then dip out sounds great.
Watched the trailer. Game looks good.
@nhSnork Fair enough. I just feel that something like say Harvestella is much...much more appealing.
I highly doubt I'll play this; but great for others who are interested. The visual style reminds me of the Disneyland game on the 360 that used the camera.
Are there any examples of mobile free to play styled games being even remotely successful on a console? I see plenty come and go, but can't think of any that have stuck. This will go the same way - you can already see that it has no future.
@Anti-Matter Because Stardew Valley is more known these days. But really, they're just the same genre of games. Nobody calls Fortnite a Halo-inspired game do they? Why should we do it with life sims...
@Magician I'd certainly rank it higher myself despite my Disney bias, but I'm not sure why the game is being compared to Harvestella, Stardew Valley and whatnot in the first place. All I've seen here and in the aforementioned Disney Magical World games feels like a more goal-driven take on Animal Crossing instead. Which is certainly a hook for me since I like AC but have drifted away due to its overly endless nature in the face of pressing backlog matters. Next time I randomly launch my New Leaf save, Isabelle might have murderous intents...😅
@Pillowpants I'm sure you could've found a more appropriate simile, especially since you're talking about kids.
@Anti-Matter Yea, Harvest Moon did it first.
If this game has Muppets DAY ONE FOR ME!!!!
I wonder if this would come to mobile devices cuz this seems like it might be something my sister would like.
The appeal of Stardew Valley over Harvest Moon comes from it being indie. No Chibi nonsense. No microtransactions. Just simple mechanics focused on solid gameplay.
I think Disney missed the memo on that one. It might as well be "Disney's Dreamlight Moon"
@Kevember funnily enough I'm getting ads for alcohol all over the article page lmao
I think it's incredible that a game that's visually way more advanced like this is getting early access on Nintendo Switch (where it'll likely "sell" more copies than anywhere else) and a pixel art style farm simulator like Sun Haven can't even bother. Definitely looking forward to Dreamlight Valley and I think I'm just going to write-off Sun Haven as "never gonna happen" or "too late" if its developer ever decides to finally make good on their constant use of the hashtag and actually bring the game over to Switch.
Gonna play it since i love the idea of meeting diseny characters and helping them, but they wont get my money if its ftp with ingame purchases,i'm gonna unlock stuff the old way, just by playing it.
Ngl I'm mostly interested in the outfits and maybe the house designing.
Make it Physical and you got me interested.....the catch.
Starting on September 6, 2022, Disney Dreamlight Valley will be available in Early Access for players who purchase a Founder's Pack or have an Xbox Game Pass membership ahead of the game's free-to-play launch in 2023.
Looks like another CLOUD game only....
That part where you have see who can produce the most Disney merchandise in the Uyghur concentration camp is brutal. Those little kids are fast. I guess you have to be when your life depends on it.
If this game somehow, does not get loaded with micro transactions, then this could be an actually good time, and something I’m actually gonna try, it looks fun.
@Anti-Matter True, personally I love stardew valley more.
@montrayjak
Chibi form is not nonsense.
Peoples might have different taste.
I personally prefer Chibi form as possible than the realistic form as I prefer cute looking characters.
@Magician
I take your advice.
I played Story of Seasons games, Harvest Moon games, Youtubers Life 2, Kitaria Fables, Epic Chef, Disney Magical World 2 3DS.
It looks great! I think ill have good times playing alongside with my doughter!
@Anti-Matter hey I'm sorry about that. I didn't mean to offend anyone or even diss the Harvest Moon games. I grew up playing Harvest Moon for SNES and N64 until it started to go that route and it just felt very out of place for me as a long-time fan — it felt to me more like they were trying to cash grab on being "cute" than focusing on being a solid game.
FWIW, as a teenager I was pretty upset about Wind Waker being "kiddy" as well, even though it's one of my favorites looking back at it.
@Kevember Not really sure what you're on about? I didn't use any smiley in my reply. If you're referring to my avatar, well, it can't really be helped.
I was merely voicing my concern to parents who's kids will be playing this game and spending lots of money, because of the "F2P" model.
Disney owns so many characters, but when it comes to crossovers, they use the same ones again and again. At least Wall-E and Remy are getting some love. Haven't seen them in a while.
Honestly looks kinda fun. In a time to kill, elementary brain exploring seeing Disney characters interacting kinda way.
@Pillowpants Are you being facetious? Everyone learned what a simile is in 7th grade.
@Kevember Sorry, I must've misread. Also, English isn't my primary language, so there's that.
It is absolutely infuriating to see a brand like Disney, that is clearly geared at younger gamers, going the F2P, gatcha, addiction route instead of producing wholesome content. What a missed opportunity. Shame.
