I also have the Official Nintendo Switch Carrying Case for the Switch OLED. Which is fine for me. So I ordered the Official Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case as well. While it is not a hard case I noticed the Switch 2 Carrying Case gives a bit more protection. Yes, the plastic screen protector is not good. Looks expensive in the US, I ordered it from the My Nintendo Store for 25 euro.
@Protion9 Correct. It works like that with any Switch controller. When it hasn't been connected to a Switch console before it doesn't drain the battery. I still have a N64 NSO controller that isn't drained but also haven't used it yet.
It would be interesting to get a Switch controller back to factory settings so it is off. But it seems not possible after it has made a connection to a Switch.
@Zuljaras I would expect the physical Switch 2 games have the system version that is needed on the cartridge. If an update is needed you would probably don't get in the eShop anyway before updating the system.
This is stupid I would have bought the game on release when it came out in 2019 on the Switch if it was physical. Then I didn't buy it on sale in 2020. After that I waited more than 4 years to go on sale again and finally bought it for 9 euro last year.
I don't know. I still buy some Switch 1 games. Ordered Planet of Lana via Super Rare Games and ordered Shin Chan: Shiro and the Coal Town on Amazon US. But we are almost starting the Nintendo Switch 2 generation and rather play a Switch 2 version of Hellblade when I would buy the game again. Not every physical release makes sense when you know there are better versions out there. Although there are still Switch 1 games I would like to have physical like Limbo and Inside.
@Not_Soos The Nintendo Switch hardware revision with improved battery life came more than two years later. September 2019. I am also not worried we see a Switch 2 revision in a year from now. At the time I upgraded to every new Switch model and I did like the better battery life. I expect the Switch 2 battery life to be on the short side. It seems to have the same battery hour numbers as the Switch 1 launch version. Probably upgrade when there is a revision, but maybe I can skip the first revision...
@8bitKirby Mario Kart World is both? It seems to have ton of single player content.
I do think Mario Kart is a great launch title. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is my most played game on Switch and a lot of those hours where also spent playing single player only (finishing all cups gold 3 stars and time trials). But I think another first party title like a 3D Mario title would have been nice. When I got the Nintendo Switch end of 2017 I bought it with MK8D and Mario Odyssey and that was a great combo. While I do play Mario Kart for years to come it is not a game I play long hours like Mario Odyssey.
@MrGawain I agree with the online connections. I am also not an online gamer. Graphical power is also better on other consoles of course. But for me we are at a point where the difference is not that much anymore.
@MrGawain Is this your view because you have multiple consoles at home? I am interested in games like GTA and it would be great if I don't have to buy an PS5 or Xbox Series X/S to play those games. And on the Switch (2) I can play these games docked and handheld as well. To me it would be the best platform to play any kind of games on.
Not something I would put next to the Switch 2. it looks a little... cheap. I am also not planning to buy two extra pairs of Joy-cons. On the current Switch I have an extra pair different color Joy-cons that I just switch from time to time. So both pair of Joy-cons have a charge if I would need them.
I don't like these negative posts. Xbox has their fans and more competition is always a good thing. Who cares if it doesn't sell the same amount of consoles as the Nintendo Switch 2? Just pick what you like. I visit NintendoLife because I obviously have interest in the Nintendo Switch 1 and 2. The (news about) Switch 2 will do great doing it's own thing.
I use Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for years but not since the beginning. It's a good deal. I do prefer to play games on the Nintendo Switch. So if I like a game on Game Pass I will probably buy it for the Switch.
I already ordered the Switch 2. Also because I already am invested in the Nintendo Switch platform. I do think my gaming habits will change with the prices rising. I will wait longer for a good deal and/or buy less games. No problem. I can play games from my backlog and maybe it is also time to replay some of the older Switch games.
I don't think it is technically impossible to bring GTA6 to the Switch 2. But GTA5 on the Switch 1 should have been easy to do and we haven't seen that game on a Nintendo platform either.
I think this is a great feature for people who want to sell their Switch before getting their hands on the Switch 2.
But I am not getting rid of my Switch OLED. Still plan to use it after getting the Switch 2. Have to see how good Switch 1 games work on the Switch 2. Also with some games the Switch OLED will be good enough and maybe more interesting on the go because of the smaller size and better battery life.
Anyway I don't think I will do a system transfer this time. It would be great if the Play Activity Hours work on multiple Switch devices. And I have to figure out what is the best way to keep using 2 Switch devices. Thus far it was Primary and Secondary Console and now there also is Virtual Game Cards. I also read that the use of “Primary Console” has been deprecated with the transition to virtual game cards. So it still a bit confusing to me.
Mostly worried about the Play Activity Hours. Probably just should let that go.
@Novamii How did you transfer over to the Switch OLED? Because a system transfer would be the only way to keep the Play Activity Hours counting correctly.
I still have the Play Activity Hours from 2017 and forward while doing a system transfer to the Switch V2 and Switch OLED.
The backside of the Switch (2) has a slot that helps the docking. If you compare the Switch 1 and Switch 2 you can see that the slot is quite different. I am not surprised that each dock is not compatible with the other Switch generation.
Not interested in this controller since I already have the Switch 1 Pro controller which I bought in a sale. It's so expensive. I am curious how HD Rumble 2 differs from HD Rumble 1.
Steam Deck seems like a cool device to own. Great that there are options. For me the better option still is the Nintendo Switch. I also could buy both, but there are enough games that keeping me occupied with the Nintendo Switch.
@Sebos I played the game a few years ago. I still had to finish the main campaign so I started off from a really old save game. I did try to start a new game, but didn't want to bother with the levelling system.
@sanderev You are correct. But that seems more suitable for those games. If it is technically possible to do the same with Mario Kart World I expect the experience for an action based race game to be subpar.
I think it would be easier to do with a game like Super Mario 3D World, but in the video that game has 4 times the exact same screen?
@SillyG You can't compare Download Play and GameShare in that way. GameShare is streaming. GameShare does not work with a game like Mario Kart World except if everyone has the same view and controls the same kart.
@sanderev It works with Split Fiction because it shares/stream the exact same splitscreen. Mario Kart World is not one of those games that feature GameShare.
I hope EA is going to announce games like the Mass Effect Legendary Edition and Star Wars Jedi. I am not interested in these sport games but it also not surprising they support the Switch 2 with sport games the same way they did with the Switch 1.
I only got the Game Boy Advance on release day. For me it was a great launch with plenty of interesting games to choose from. I got Rayman Advance, F-Zero Maximum Velocity and Konami Krazy Racers. Still great games. I don't know why I wasn't interested in THPS2. When I finished THPS1+2 on Switch I bought the THPS2 cartridge and finished the game also on the Game Boy Advance. Great port.
I didn't worry about that. Still worry about the 2025 release date. I'll believe that when I see it. But still looking forward to play this game someday.
@MrCarlos46 They don't lower their prices so if the would have added the Expansion Pass DLC it would have been 20 dollar more expensive.
Just to be sure. BOTW + Expansion Pass DLC was released on cart, but only in Japan/Asia. I imported it via Amazon Japan and it was more expensive than the regular game.
@MrCarlos46 I read it. Hopefully that is the case. But I want to hear that from Nintendo itself or read it on the Nintendo website. It shouldn't be so vague and I don't think a customer service employee is a good source to rely on. This is the second customer service employee. The other said the opposite.
Finally some news about this. But I also don't think this is a confirmation yet. But it seems highly likely. Now we have to wait for an answer from Nintendo or waiting for sad faces when people do an unboxing June 5th.
I also want to know more information about physical games on cartridges, but probably going digital in the coming generation.
I ordered the Switch 2 Mario Kart bundle. I think I will be fine with Mario Kart World for the first few months and I want to complete some Switch 1 backlog first. Also looking forward to news about older third party games like Halo: Combat Evolved. I would be really interested to play that on a Switch 2. First party games like Donkey Kong Bananza look interesting but I don't really like the prices they are asking for these games so I am not in a hurry to play.
Then don't use it? I was already not really interested in the feature. It's mostly because I game when sitting on the couch. Mouse mode doesn't seem practical that way. And also don't play games that are designed for a mouse on a console. But a game like Civilization 7 seems more fun to play with Mouse Mode.
@MrCarlos46 Another new cartridge besides the faster red cartridge for the Switch 2? It seems easier to just put a Switch 1 cartridge in the box with an upgrade pack download code. Just saying
@Medic_alert It would be interesting if NintendoLife does some investigation on this. The Nintendo website is also vague. But yes if it was just a red cart that includes everything on the cartridge then it wouldn't need al the information on the cover making the artwork uglier.
@HammerGalladeBro I think these physical Switch 2 Editions have the Switch 1 cartridge in the box. If that is the case you can use the game on both systems.
