Re: Nintendo Is Reportedly Targeting AI-Generated Mario Pictures

Wordbonder

I'm not a fan of AI art either, but frankly, I don't see the right Nintendo has to take it down. It's still fan art, it doesn't matter if AI made it or an artist. If the images aren't being sold, I don't see the right they have.

I think everyone's bloodlust over AI art is blinding them to how Nintendo could set a new precedent where a kid couldn't draw fan art of Mario and post it online without being sued.

And I don't think it's a fair argument that AI is fed official images of Mario, so thus it's copyright. Real artists also "learn from" the official images as it were, since you have eyes and look at the real stuff to then make your own take on it.

Again, I'm not for AI art, but Nintendo has been known to take a mile if given an inch when it comes to copyright issues. This could become an issue for real artists soon enough. (And it kinda already is, since some real fan art has already been hit.)

Re: Rumour: Wii & DS Favourite 'MySims' Could Be Coming To Switch Soon

Wordbonder

@Frailbay30 I didn't say it was my jam, the only one I played I said I didn't like. Honestly, I don't really care all that much one way or the other. Though, from the responses I've read online after this rumor I'd say a lot of people did view it positively.

But anyway, I don't want to nitpick over who did the most research on a review score for an almost twenty-year-old game. It was just meant as a causal statement.

Re: Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp To End Online Service In November

Wordbonder

I never really played this since the always online/microtransactions were a turn-off. So I'm pretty interested in giving this a go. I'm not sure how well it will hold up since I'm so used to playing NH, but I'll check it out.

As for an eventual new mainline game on Switch 2, I can't decide if this is a good or bad indicator of how soon it might be coming...

Re: Review: The Garden Path (Switch) - A Green-Thumbed Ode To Animal Crossing That Needs Tending

Wordbonder

Just to give my 2 cents...

I picked this up on PC and play it exclusively with a controller. The controls for me are fine with no issues, so I don't know if the problems mentioned are Switch exclusive or just a matter of taste.

I'm thoroughly enjoying the game in bites of about 30 mins a days. Overall, my biggest issue was, as stated, things are very vague. I had to look up guides and videos and just experiment for a while before I found my stride as it were.

So overall, I still recommend the game to those interested, but it might be better to play it somewhere other than Switch (which is almost always the case...) if you can, as performance issues would be my biggest concern.

Also, the Dev has patched a lot of bugs already, but they might not have made it to Switch yet given Nintendo's slow approval process.

Re: Reaction: A Direct That Delivered, And Shows That Switch Still Has Plenty Of Pep

Wordbonder

@Lofoten Well, in my case it's just a matter of not being a Mario or Zelda fan. I'm happy to see Prime 4 get its time to shine, but that's not really for me either. I wish Nintendo would give more love to other IPs besides Mario and Zelda.

Why did they drop Animal Crossing, when it was their second best-selling game? They couldn't even toss us a paid DLC item pack? What about at least an HD remaster of Star Fox 64? F-Zero? More than drip feed NSO? Why couldn't DK get at least 1 new game?

I'm not throwing shade on the direct as a whole, I can see why so many people are happy. But Nintendo has really neglected some of their IPs during the Switch gen. This was just more of that IMO.

Re: Round Up: Every Game From Wholesome Direct 2024 Coming To Switch

@MH4 I kind of see where you're coming from in terms of chasing buzz words, that bothers me too. I just hate that lately every time anything farming/life sim is mentioned it gets labeled as chasing the trend Stardew supposedly started or something.

I love the genre for itself, and it has its roots in the dawn of gaming just like other genres. But it seems to get a constant stream of complaints against it by a lot of gamers in spite of starting way back on the SNES.

Re: Review: My Time At Sandrock - A Farm Sim Sequel That Plays It Too Safe

Wordbonder

Sorry, I have to strongly disagree on this one. I play on PC and wouldn't opt for the Switch version due to performance. But Sandrock is my top pick in the entire farm sim genre, and I've been around playing them since the 90s.

I understand the performance issues on Switch, but to give this a 5 sounds like the reviewer doesn't like the genre in the first place. Just look at Steam, it sits at a Very Positive score with over 12,000 reviews.

Re: LEGO Animal Crossing Launches March 2024, Five Sets Announced

Wordbonder

As a big fan of AC and Lego I thought I couldn't go wrong here. But the sets look cluttered and messy to me. I get these aren't adult-focused sets, but even so, there are many other sets that are much more detailed and still aimed at children.

While I don't find the prices outrageous (given the Lego norm) it's still a bit of a miss for me. If I'm going to pay $75 bucks I would rather just have a more detailed Nook's Cranny instead of tossing in the other house and both being subpar detail.

I'm not sure how much say Nintendo had in the design process, or if Lego is to blame, but it seems foolish not to have at least one set aimed at adult collectors. Given both AC and Lego have a massive adult following.

Re: Pokémon Collab Apparently Draws Crowds Of Scalpers To Van Gogh Museum

Wordbonder

I know it's an unpopular opinion, but personally, I'm a little weary of the constant scalper shame discussion. Should you be somebody using bots or doing anything illegal to beat out everyone else for your own gain? No, of course not.

But if you actually show up in person and manage to get something legitimately and sell it, then so what? The sad reality is we live in hard financial times where people often resort to far worse crimes than reselling an item they lawfully obtained.

Re: Ahsoka Tano Takes A Break From Hunting Thrawn To Join Fortnite

Wordbonder

@Truegamer79 I'll add, that many Star Wars fans regard the Thrawn EU book trilogy as the pinnacle of Star Wars. (Myself included.) He was a very interesting and well-written character in the books, who also acts as a sort of symbol of the best parts of the EU. So it's cool to see him in live-action now.

It reminds many fans of how amazing parts of the EU were before Disney bought Star Wars and ruined it as a whole...

Re: PSA: For Goodness Sake, Don't Fall For This Nintendo Switch 2 'Leak'

Wordbonder

Yes, yes, I'm sure it's fake. But honestly, should the fact that it's ugly be used as a reason to prove it is? Has anyone seen the Wii U before? Nintendo has anything but a flawless track record.

If not for hearing this came from famiboards I'd be tempted to believe it just for the strange sliding joy con alone. To do something no one asked for is so Nintendo actually...

Re: Review: Story Of Seasons: A Wonderful Life - Slow, Old-Fashioned Yet Fulfilling Farming

Wordbonder

@ShinEon I watched quite a bit of someone steaming the Japanese version so I picked up a few things.

The crops are indeed the best way to make money now, and they have streamlined the planting and watering process where the animations aren't so slow and tedious. The cows give milk forever instead of just after giving birth. The goat can be bred, you can have more than one, and they too keep giving milk forever if my memory serves.

Re: Soapbox: Stardew Valley Was Surprisingly Good Prep For Living With My Partner IRL

Wordbonder

@Deviant-Dork I'm sorry, but don't you find it the least bit rude to tell a stranger who is sharing a happy part of their life, they need a therapist? Frankly, that's what I don't find to be good behavior.

Even if you don't agree with the way they went about their relationship did you really need to say this? How do you think the article writer feels after sharing something so important and personal and they get this response as the first comment?

Re: My Time At Sandrock Finds A Home On Switch This Summer

Wordbonder

@antisumo Okay, so I checked on the official Sandrock Steam forums and the Devs said the following: "We're porting it ourselves and we're very confident it'll be a much better port than the Portia version."

So hopefully it will work out better this time around. Time will tell, but I'm hopeful at least.
