Re: Talking Point: Remember When People Thought Switch Would Fail?

I like the Switch, of course, but that old chip is really starting to show its age. Even in some first-party titles, we're seeing lag and frame drops. For me, that's the biggest issue. Nintendo has the money to do better, they just aren't. The OLED is salt in the wound as far as I'm concerned.

Not to mention drift...

Re: Random: 'Switch Vs Steam Deck' Memes Are A Thing Now, Apparently

What people fail to see is not all Switch owners are in it for the first-party games. Most are I know, but at least a few (myself included) just want a portable option for gaming. Until now we basically only had Nintendo to fill that void. So this is a welcome change given how "vintage" the Switch's hardware is.

As someone who has been in the graded card world, yes sadly people often are willing to pay less for a signed card. This sadly shows that people's view has mostly turned toward money over love of Pokemon.

As for Gary, I'm not surprised. He started buying up Base Set in the 90s, not as a fan, but as an investor. Yes, the investment paid off, but I doubt he was ever really into Pokemon...

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch 'Pro' Reveal Expected Before E3, Out This Year

I'd need a decently significant performance upgrade to justify the price. I have a Switch Lite as I mostly favor handheld play, but I wouldn't mind a dockable option.

Still, the thought of 4k doesn't interest me in the least, I just want it to be able to run third-party games decently. I'm a little tired of regretting I didn't buy a game for my Xbox instead when I see the Switch performance...

Re: Soapbox: Be Happy, This Is The True Golden Age Of Gaming

Growing up in the 90s I can see the logic on both sides of this argument. Personally, I do prefer the current gaming landscape, because of indies. Indie titles make up at least 90% of what I play.

The facts are I have a lot more titles in the genres that I enjoy compared to back then. But I still do have a soft spot for the so called good old days.

Re: Review: Castaway Paradise - "Like Animal Crossing" Indeed, Minus The Good Bits

I'm not here to truly disagree, after all, I bought and refunded this game on Steam years ago myself. (There was no controller support then I think...)

But I feel the Switch crowd is going to be a little overly harsh on this game due to Animal Crossing. It does have a score of mostly positive on Steam, likely because on PC there isn't anything remotely close to Animal Crossing.

As someone who has gotten a few hours of so-so joy even out of the likes of Harvest Life, I think die-hard fans of the genre could still enjoy this. But the price is too high, I'm waiting for at least half off to give this another shot.

Re: Talking Point: Are There Too Many Harvest Moon-Likes On The Market?

Wordbonder

For me, it's like saying we have too many FPSs or RPGs. The Harvest Moon style farming/life sim has become another common genre since Stardew's success. I for one am overjoyed, as I love these sorts of games. Having so many fresh indie takes on the genre is only a plus in my mind, we've seen some real innovation because of it.

@Anti-Matter I would go for PS4 unless you really want it portable. The graphics and performance would be improved on the PS4. I do have the switch version though, it is very playable just not as polished as the PC or PS4/Xbox version. Overall, I've logged quite a few hours into both, so I don't think you'll go wrong with either.
