Re: Oddworld Creator Lorne Lanning "Has No Faith" In Switch

Wolfgabe

I am sorry but its painfully obvious here Lorne has not much clue what he is talking about. A lot of the policies that existed with Wii and Wii U are pretty much gone now including the day and date policy from what I hear.

4GB is relatively impressive for a system of the Switches nature. The Switch using cartridges was mainly due to design limitations adding a disc drive would have likely raised the cost and murdered the battery.

While yes the Switch is underpowered compared to the twins the gap is not nearly as severe as it was with Wii and Wii U plus Switch has the advantage of not being held back by a highly dated architecture coupled with modern development tools.

Also what the flying donkeys is he saying claiming Switch killed Iwata last I checked Iwata fell victim to bile duct cancer. Also the Switch was basically one the last things Iwata had any involvement in before he passed. I kinda lost a good deal of respect for Mr Lanning now.

Also last I checked Switch has been selling like hot cakes with little signs of slowing down and it will likely continue that way seeing what they have planned for the rest of this year and beyond

Re: Sledgehammer Games Has a Definitive Answer on Call of Duty: WWII for Nintendo Switch - "No"

Wolfgabe

@SLIGEACH_EIRE I think you are kind of over exaggerating a bit. I dont expect Switch to get every AAA third party game but I will appreciate what it is getting. FIFA and Skyrim look much better than what most people were expecting.

Also the online is relatively cheap I dont see how you can think 20 dollars a year is a rip off and the majority of the features you mentioned are coming

Re: Editorial: The Frustrating Quest for a SNES Mini is Bad Business for Nintendo

Wolfgabe

I am sure Nintendo is aware of demand but I don't think many people understand how manufacturing and supply chain works. I recall them stating part of the reason they had such a difficult time keeping up with demand with the NES Mini was due to a shortage of parts. It likely wouldn't be as bad if people wouldn't be so damn greedy and buy up all the units for themselves just so they can ransom them off online for an overly inflated price. They actually did try to stop scalpers with the Majoras Mask 3DS but it didn't work because they would just use alt accounts to get around the order limits

Re: Video: Performance Over Resolution - Digital Foundry Tackles Super Mario Odyssey

Wolfgabe

@Yasaal Simply addding more power won't make Nintendo's third party problems go away. So far with Switch they have done a good job of learning from Wii U's mistakes and have secured a good amount of support among Japanese devs. It's mainly the western developers they have problems with mainly cause they either don't care for the Nintendo audience or are firmly in bed with Sony and MS.

BoTWs issues were less with hardware and more due to optimization issues. They released a patch not to long ago that helped improve the performance

Re: Feature: The Switch Report - Three Months of Nintendo's New System

Wolfgabe

I don't have a Switch yet but of course waiting does have it's advantages. They are likely still working out deals with content providers which is why the Switch doesn't have streaming apps yet. I don't really mind the lack of a web browser since console web browsers are generally inferior to the regular PC kind.

Sure a lot of Switch games as of late have been Wii U ports and such but keep in mind BoTW and Mario Kart 8 originated on a system nobody bought so to a lot of people they are almost completely new games.

Re: New Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Rewards Appear on My Nintendo in North America

Wolfgabe

Really is all people really do is female dog now. I am certain the Switch rewards will be revealed soon. Nintendo is probably still in the process of working out how they integrate with Switch. I think My Nintendo is intended to be much more integrated with Switches online services which might be why Switch rewards have not shown up yet

Re: Feature: The Growing Pains of Curation on the Nintendo Switch eShop

Wolfgabe

Okay for one thing I do find it difficult to trust anonymous sources. Nindie 1 sounds more like a spurned lover. Also I saw a tweet from Dan Adelman in which he actually called Nintendo douches not exactly what I would call a professional statement. When a dev takes to Twitter to actually insult the company in question I think the problem is more with them not Nintendo.

Look back at Wii U it's hard to fault Nintendo after seeing some of the garbage that ended up on the eShop there. It's clear they don't want another Steam Greenlight like situation on their hands. Steam Greenlight was pretty much like Nintendo web framework it had a good intent behind it but it ended up backfiring sorta with all the RPG Maker trash and Unity asset flips. Now Steam Greenlight is being replaced with Steam Direct which now requires devs to pay a submission fee for each game that can vary. Now many devs aren't exactly happy with this change but it's understandable when you consider the garbage that went through greenlight.

Looking back at Switch pre launch it's easy to see why Nintendo would want to be selective about who got a development kit. With all the Switch leaks going around they probably didn't want to take any chances.

Re: Payday 2 Announced For Nintendo Switch

Wolfgabe

@Funky_Kong

Lemme point out a few things
Payday 2 is one of those games that is best played with actual people. I know how freaking useless the AI can be but if your good enough you can do a heist solo.

The micro transaction part has been pretty much toned down greatly. You don't need to buy a drill to open the new safes now.

You don't need to buy the DLC either. You only need it if you want to host for that particular mission. You can still join a game without owning the DLC.

Re: Round Up: Yooka-Laylee's Scores Are In, And Critics Appear Divided

Wolfgabe

Another thing to note with Jim is that he pretty much hates platformers of any sort. Banjo Kazooie included. With that in mind his review is almost like expecting a blind man to review the Mona Lisa.

Also looking at his review in a bit more depth it wasn't that great to begin with

Quote from Jim's Review.

"Also, Yooka himself sounds like a total ♥♥♥♥ing pervert every time he “speaks.” It’s actually quite distressing.

The dialog as written is only slightly less painful with terrible jokes that undeservedly throw shade at other games and Laylee’s “witty” quips routinely insulting the looks of any creature that isn’t her, often using derogatory nicknames based on their appearance. She’ll toss out slurs against snakes, shopping carts, clouds, she doesn’t care. Laylee is a complete racist, and as facetious as I’m being here, she really does come off as a hateful, nasty, thoroughly unlikable little ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Additionally, the game is drowning in Quillies, or Quills, or whatever. They’re more contrived bits of magical ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t you pick up so you can buy new moves from Trowzer the snake (he’s named after a ♥♥♥♥♥)."

Not exactly what I would call a professional review

Re: Round Up: Yooka-Laylee's Scores Are In, And Critics Appear Divided

Wolfgabe

PC version reportedly runs the best form what I hear. Also I wouldn't take the Jimquisition too seriously considering his tendency to trash anything he doesn't really like. Also remember reviews are mainly a matter of opinion. Often the best way to find out if you really like a game or not is to sit down and play it for yourself. Postal 2 for example was poop on by critics but a lot of people still enjoy it.

Re: Lego City Undercover Still Has Ridiculous Load Times on Switch

Wolfgabe

I find it silly that people are making such a fuss over load times. If what some are saying is true the game actually loads faster than what is suggested in this video. Plus PS4 has the same load times so it's probably more of the engine rather than the system. I don't think the load times are nearly as bad as Skyrim either

Re: Playtonic Removes JonTron's Voice from Yooka-Laylee

Wolfgabe

The steam forums are pretty much a freaking swamp right now. but someone did bring up this good point

It's the same thing as employees getting fired for saying things the company disagreed with.
Also, Internet is a public place, even if many use it in the comfort of their own homes. If you say things like this in a public place, you've got to accept that there'll be a backlash - especially when discussing heavy political topics like the ones Jon brought up, and the way he discussed them. I won't comment on his statements, but... yeah, whether you like it or not, he had become a hot potato and it would have been difficult for Playtonic to keep him in their hands. They're getting flak for letting him go, they would have probably gotten even more flak for keeping him in. It's basic damage control.

And before you yell "Freedom of Speech", well, this doesn't exclude "Freedom of Thinking before saying something". He really should have thought twice before saying stuff like that. Rule of thumb, when online, always go "Would I really say that in the open?" or, if replying to someone, "would I really say that to them if we were having thgis discussion in person?" Hell, for Jon, it's basically "Can I really say this despite my current advertisement deals/roles in future projects/etc."? So... yeah. Agree or disagree all you want with JonTron, it was still stupid as Hell of him to reveal that he had such beliefs. Had he not done those jokes/said these things, he wouldn't be under fire today. And we'd all still think he's just one of the many ultra-popular YouTubers whose political opinions don't matter, as long as he keeps making good videos and doesn't bring up said opinions of his own volition.

Re: South Park: Fractured But Whole Not Coming To Switch, Despite Apparent Twitter Tease

Wolfgabe

For one thing the game was probably too far along in development to make a Switch port currently viable. Also I can't help but be skeptical considering the statement mainly came from a studio representative who I doubt would have complete knowledge of what goes on behind the scenes. If Nintendo can allow something like Isacc on Wii U, 3DS, and Switch then I don't see why they won't allow South Park

Re: Nintendo Confirms Switch Save Data Is Tied To The Console And Cannot Be Transferred

Wolfgabe

I am not bothered by this too much considering I am fairly certain they will add in the ability to do system transfers in the future. I do recall them saying they were working on some form of cloud storage a while back ago.

To those worrying over losing their data. The same thing would happen if you had your data on an SD card and it got lost, or broken.

I wouldn't be surprised either if this was meant to stop backdoor save abuse
