South Park has a long history with Nintendo. The first licensed video game based on the cult TV show was for the Nintendo 64, and several sequels also appeared on the console.
However, in recent years the franchise has remained off-limits for Nintendo fans, which is perhaps why the following tweet got people so excited:
As is often the case with these kind of things, speculation regarding the tweet's significance was rampant, with many predicting an announcement that the forthcoming RPG South Park: Fractured But Whole would be making its way to the Nintendo Switch.
However, in a statement given to IGN, a representative from South Park Digital Studios said:
South Park: The Fractured But Whole won't be coming to [the Nintendo] Switch.
The tweet appears seems to be a case of bad timing; it's lifted from a scene in a 2006 South Park episode in which Cartman decides to freeze himself rather than wait the three weeks until the launch of the Nintendo Wii. The #Blizzard2017 hashtag is a bit of a giveaway, as it relates to the storm which hit the eastern coast of the U.S. earlier this week.
Oh well. Time to dust off that copy of Chef's Luv Shack on the N64.

stick of truth then. if it does well, then fractured butt whole (oops a typo).
Probably just a random post since they always post scenes from their show.
Highly doubt we will see Stick of Truth or Fractured But whole coming to the Nintendo Switch. As sad as that may be there is no point in getting our hopes up for this.
Surely if nothing else that tweet has at least shown them how hungry people are for it? There's money to be made so why not?
Aren't the games by Ubisoft (a confirmed Switch partner) anyway?
I hope they do bring their SP games to Switch because I'd like to play them.
Seriously, what IS the Switch getting?
Loved Stick of truth, would get that if it came out, but doubt Nintendo would let them release it cos it is "too dirty" if they have to rate Zelda BotW as a 12 because of the Fairies
I had no idea South Park was still... A thing.
Fascinating.
@Yasume it's getting played constantly.
Harsh. It's even being developed by Ubisoft, who were all-in for the launch of Wii and Wii U. Maybe they aren't as close anymore.
@Bunkerneath
Nintendo isn't responsible for the ratings.
I have the Stick of truth on ps3. Still haven't played it yet. It looks really good.
Unfortunate. It's a bit too early to tell, but it seems like the Switch will be another Nintendo console for Nintendo games (and indie titles).
It wasn't even a proper tease. Their twitter posts random quotes like that all the time.
@Pod
It's published by Unisoft. It's developed by Obsidian entertainment. Publishers didn't want to go near the game because of it's risky content. Unisoft did in the end.
What the hell is Ubisoft smoking? So instead of producing multiplats that the userbase is demanding, they're giving us a port of the we-said-it-was-going-to-be-an-exclusive-launch-title-but-delayed-it-for-a-more-profitable-multiplatform-release Rayman Legends, which they couldn't manage to deliver for either the Wii U or the Switch launch? And at full price no less! Who asked for this? What audience are they catering for exactly? Everybody who wanted the game would already possess it by now. Idiocy. Absolute freakin' idiocy.
@KJW90 : South Park has been running consistently since 1997. It doesn't have the cultural impact that it used to, but clearly it has a loyal and devoted fanbase as evidenced by the fact that they're still producing games and merchandise based on the show. The Simpsons is in a similar boat in which it's still profitable, but it is no longer the cultural phenomenon that it once was (at least where new episodes are concerned; the classic episodes are still firmly ingrained in the public consciousness).
@Bunkerneath : Age classifications are not a barrier for a game's release on any platform unless it has been rated AO by the ESRB in the U.S. (which is rejected for sale by most retailers, and I believe is prohibited by Sony and Microsoft [and I suppose Nintendo by proxy]). Meanwhile, equivalent adults only ratings elsewhere in the world do not have this problem.
Hmm more games not coming,can't understand why NL makes these articles. With this and the NES Disney games not coming all sounds like gloomy news today. Think I will go back to bed and maybe when I wake up we might get some positive news.
Okay here's a title that I would have 100% have wanted to come to Switch (You dropped the ball on this one, Nintendo!) But no, I doubt this is an issue of power or porting.
Now I'm wondering if I should even support the game at all when they're not going to support my preferred gaming system. I'm perfectly fine letting my PS4 gather dust once I finish Rain World.
@NintySnesMan Agreed,it reminds of the early Wii U days when the only news reported was about games not coming,even though they were never hinted at coming in the first place.I don;t see Push Square reporting stories like "FAST RMX won't be coming to PS4".
...they killed the South Park game?.. Those bas..
..I'm surviving but hurt ..
@OorWullie
Yeah mate lol.. Great way to describe it. I say don't make the articles,that way there won't be any fuss over it.
@Mart1ndo
Actually, the Fractured But Whole is supposedly developed by Ubisoft San Francisco. Black Isle was in charge of the first game.
More disappointment.
the N64 games were rubbish and i'm confident they are just regurgitating ideas, just like their cartoons. So no thanks anyway.
I do not really care for South Park but it is concerning to see all the "Game X is not coming to the Nintendo Switch" headlines. Been a bunch of that lately. I hope Nintendo will drop Virtual Console soon.
OUCH!!!
it's the wiiu all over again
YET ANOTHER GAME THAT NINTENDO DOESN"T GET. two in the same day we r told nope.
so much for 3rd party games . sad so sad.
If the Switch is the easiest console to develop for, I don't see why it's not on there. Does Ubisoft have a good reason? Probably not.
If Assassin's Creed is shown at E3 and it's not on Switch (I really hope it is! Would love to play it on the go) then that will be a bad sign for 3rd party support.
At least there's that port of the Twin Snakes to look forward to...
@Pod
I stand corrected on "Fractured But Whole" didn't know that. Your wrong on "The stick of truth" it was developed by Obsidian Entertainment. I don't know where your getting "Black Isle". But your wrong
It's a shame that when a game that can run on the Switch still gets overlooked. Hear great things about those 2 South Park games.
No matter what they do the switch will never be a failure like the Wii u.
@Mart1ndo
Ah, sorry, I meant Obsidian. Black Isle was the same guys, just their previous studio. Forgive me for being old, didn't mean to disagree with you.
It's not my kind of game, but it's still disappointing. The more big 3rd party games appearing on the Switch, the better.
Honestly would be a perfect game for the switch you could play it in handheld to hide the rudeness away from family members.
@Bread-Not-Toast
I like to get my rudeness out and wave it in their faces! 😇
For one thing the game was probably too far along in development to make a Switch port currently viable. Also I can't help but be skeptical considering the statement mainly came from a studio representative who I doubt would have complete knowledge of what goes on behind the scenes. If Nintendo can allow something like Isacc on Wii U, 3DS, and Switch then I don't see why they won't allow South Park
@DiscoGentleman
Yeah mate I go to Nintendo Everything for the reasons you described. NL is way behind and usually when they are posting a article I have already read it and it becomes old news to me. I don't usually get involved in the wars but if someone disrespect me then I will shoot them down but I can honestly say this as rarely happened unlike others on here where certain ppl are always at each other. .Oh and Thx for the compliment that's very gentleman of you. I do like it on NL though there are some great ppl and some not so good ppl but it all makes for a good chat or silly cat fighting,it's all fun though,I don't think anybody actually hates eachother with a passion,afterall it's just words
@DiscoGentleman What ad revenue?
@G-Boy Would it be better with just the right amount of salt?
Umm not sure why anyone though a game that was announced in 2015 was ever coming to the Switch. The first games that will have a chance to be announced to come to Switch will be ones states this year.
However, I do t get why there are "game blank not comeong to switch " twice a week. If I didn't think Nintendolife liked Nintendo, I would think it was subliminally trolling. I get it, click sit. And there are several(you know who you are 😏) who love to see these articles.
It would be nice to know there are any developers that intend to release on my console du jour, but I've accepted not to know a thing until E3
It's probably for the best. This game isn't being done by Obsidian this time around. The studio responsible has made dance games in the past, and as long as development had been taking, I'm wondering if it's gone through development hell, which never bodes well.
Oh well
That's unfortunate. Stick of Truth and Fractured But Whole would be great games on the Switch.
That being said, I can't help but wonder if the Stick of Truth deal they're doing on the other platforms is the reason why they're not porting Fractured But Whole. In other words, they feel they would need to port both games and so they choose to port neither.
If it was coming on Switch, I would have bought it within the 3 month. Since it’s not, I’ll just get it when the price drops to less than $13 on Steam, like I did with the Stick of Truth.
This is a PS4 bargain buy anyway. So it doesn't matter. People should not be mad. The Stick of Truth was ok but not great. I enjoyed it. This is not a big deal.
So who has actually announced that they ARE releasing a game on switch SINCE the supposedly terrific launch attracted all these new developments???? Seriously though....Has 1 new game been announced since that is physical and not e shop only???
Absolute disaster imo 😕
Stick of Truth was great and I had this one pre-ordered but it's release date has vanished so nobody is getting it for some time anyway
@DiscoGentleman
I think you have to admit that south park is always going to be a personnel preference thing. I have never liked their humour in the cartoon and felt the game relied on it to entertain you, so it really didn't appeal to me.
But Yes I am sorry I did get click baited a bit here so will just choose to shut up about stuff I'm just not interested in future. Also have to agree about the site, I too am a bit of a broken record about that...
@BinaryFragger
It's just the south park comedy I find really bad. Fair play if it's your thing but it ruins the whole thing for me.
One of South Park's best episodes too. The GC, Wii and DS all appeared prominently in South Park. They love Nintendo but Ubisoft is incompetent.
@DiscoGentleman last season with the trolls saga, and the whole PC crap, was awful. Don't think I laughed once. The show is deteriorating. The best days were original episodes and classics like WoW and the Wii episode etc.
@Yasume Well, there is Zelda: Breath of the Wild? Isn't that enough? No? Tough luck.
I can't eve count how many times I've seen the headline "<Game title> is not coming to Switch". Basically, it seems like you can just insert any random game title in there, because nothing seems to be ever coming to the Switch.
And at the same time, Nintendo is basically like "Guys, we've given you Zelda: BOTW, so be quiet okay? Thanks". As if people will never want nothing else.
I don't think we're getting any serious announcement news until around E3, really. There's going to be a big round of games that don't make it out of inertia from prior plans. Even if third parties invest in Switch, there's going to be a lot of stories like this for a while.
God dammit Ubisoft
@BinaryFragger We had this with the Wii U on here, people trashing developers and their titles because they weren't coming to Nintendo consoles. Sour grapes.
What is the strategy to keep the switch relevant in the long term? We already know from the Wii U Nintendo games alone won't sell the console.
Personally I don't really care if the Switch ever gets anything else. I know it's not the situation for everybody, but I'm perfectly content if Zelda and Mario Kart were the only games I ever had to play hah. Well, if Half Life 3 were to ever exist on the Switch I would be interested, but that's just fantasy.
@DiscoGentleman direct your frustrations at Nintendo, not this site.
Glad I am getting it on PS4 with Stick of Truth as a preorder bonus.
@DiscoGentleman I don't really see what this site is doing so wrong either.
News regarding Nintendo, by and large, isn't really that great.
First week sales numbers for Switch were the highlight, but week 2 fell off a cliff. Additionally, more games aren't coming to Switch than games that are.
@Bunkerneath PEGI rated it 12 for "Non realistic looking violence towards human characters".
@KJW90 How's the rock you live under doing?
@Melkac Pretty cosy, thanks racist x
