South Park has a long history with Nintendo. The first licensed video game based on the cult TV show was for the Nintendo 64, and several sequels also appeared on the console.

However, in recent years the franchise has remained off-limits for Nintendo fans, which is perhaps why the following tweet got people so excited:

As is often the case with these kind of things, speculation regarding the tweet's significance was rampant, with many predicting an announcement that the forthcoming RPG South Park: Fractured But Whole would be making its way to the Nintendo Switch.

However, in a statement given to IGN, a representative from South Park Digital Studios said:

South Park: The Fractured But Whole won't be coming to [the Nintendo] Switch.

The tweet appears seems to be a case of bad timing; it's lifted from a scene in a 2006 South Park episode in which Cartman decides to freeze himself rather than wait the three weeks until the launch of the Nintendo Wii. The #Blizzard2017 hashtag is a bit of a giveaway, as it relates to the storm which hit the eastern coast of the U.S. earlier this week.

Oh well. Time to dust off that copy of Chef's Luv Shack on the N64.
