Frankly this falls more on the Dolphin team than Nintendo. They were warned about the fact they were using copyrighted code but decided to put Dolphin on Steam anyway even though they should have been well aware that would be guaranteed to put Dolphin right in Nintendo's crosshairs.
You can really tell a lot of these critics have likely never touched a Mario game in their lives. If you were going into the Super Mario Bros Movie expecting Pixar grade storytelling with an Avengers grade plot then frankly you were just setting yourself up for disappointment. This will no doubt be one of those movies where the audience ends up enjoying it more than the critics
And of course this article completely ignores how apparently the CEO of Panda Global was essentially operating an extortion racket where he basically told TOs they would be shut down if not officially licensed in order to scare them into signing onto the cups https://twitter.com/LDeeep/status/1597728742343778304
@PikaPhantom A lot of the bugs likely have to do with the fact they are essentially running on a completely new framework compared to the last two games. So its understandable there would be some bugs
Honestly that whole statement just reeks of generic cookie cutter corporate response. You generally don't expect a Nintendo QA customer service rep to have complete knowledge of Nintendo's future plans.
Probably the best response they can give since actually explaining the complexities of Nintendo 64 emulation would likely require a more in depth explanation than what most of the internet mob is willing to listen to
Input lag is likely a side effect of the emulator having to process and translate the modern controller inputs. Most average players probably wont even notice the difference
Its been fairly common for Nintendo to disable controller pak functionality in their N64 re releases
Graphical issues were to be expected considering how much of a pain in the ass Nintendo 64 games can be to emulate especially on a system like Switch although there is the chance they could be fixed in an update
Remember a lot of games back then were often designed in such a way so that any imperfections would be masked by the CRT display
Remember youtube comments are seldom representative of the actual majority in real life. Also keep in mind by refusing to buy the expansion people could end up sending the wrong message to Nintendo that no one is interested in their legacy content which would likely result in them investing less in their service or not at all anymore
This should have been fairly obvious to anyone who understands how retro game re releases generally work. Nintendo also likely had to throw a lot of money at Microsoft for the right to include Banjo Kazooie on their service
Okay to be fair I think the complaints about the physics are somewhat overly harsh considering how replicating the original physics on a new engine was always gonna be impossible and the fact some of the changes were intentional in the interest of accessibility from what I understand
Frankly I think we should all be happy for Crash turning 25 remember what happened at Activision largely occured on Blizzards end so lets not lump Toys for Bob or any of their other studios in
I think a lot of people seem to forget a lot of the bigger third party NES and SNES titles are available at the moment on their own compilations or stuck in legal/licensing hell so I can appreciate Nintendo using NSO as a means to give a spotlight to some of the lesser known more obscure titles
@MS7000 You try remaking 3 Mario games from the ground up with Mario Odyssey style graphics but here's the catch you only have 6 months to do it and mind you these games aren't like the Crash and Spyro PS1 trilogies which were largely identical to each other outside of each new installment having QOL improvements and mechanical tweaks but rather 3 completely different games each released on a completely different system that have completely different engines, physics and mechanics.
I really dont understand the hate on the graphics. I think its understandable really since they likely wanted to maintain the feel of the originals plus a top down style is likely easier to manage on a technical level
I dont really get why people are saying this direct was terrible considering that presentation was practically an entire E3's worth of content. Obviously there are things they can't show just yet and we are only at the start of the year.
I am not surprised about BOTW2 taking so long considering the gap between Skyward Sword and BOTW1.
If there are Pokemon Gen 4 remakes they will be revealed in their own Pokemon centric direct.
Remember Metroid Prime 4 restarted development like 2 years ago which in game development terms is not a terribly long time.
I do think people need to do a better job of keeping their expectations in check
Its makes sense really the hardware for upscaling to 4K would be built into the dock itself rather than than the actual console in order to save on manufacturing costs
To be fair Nintendo probably knew the live chat was gonna be infested with #SaveSmash and #FreeMelee stans and livestreams are kind of a pain in the ass to moderate
I think its pretty clear the majority of these limited time availability periods are likely a trick to juice sales in order to make up for revenue lost to the pandemic
The problem is it was an online tournament involving a hacked emulated game that required people to pay their own entry fee. So understandably that is probably was set the lawyers off.
I am generally assuming the limited time period is a trick to draw peoples attention and boost sales. If the game does well enough they might put it on NSO
Considering how the original FE is still relatively obscure here in the west outside of that one DS remake. I am assuming the limited time release is a trick meant to draw peoples attention and boost sales
Course I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if they end up putting up each game for sale individually or if they make them a part of the Switch online service. I think Mario 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy were basically chosen as tests to see how N64, Gamecube, and Wii games could be ported
I can see their reasoning for wanting to try something new each game since just refining the exact same battle system every time can eventually put you in a box from a design standpoint. If the next paper marios battle system is entirely different its simply because they felt there was nothing else that could be done with Origami King's system

@Ara Actually a lot of the audience scores I am seeing on Rotten Tomatoes are 5 stars
Re: Movie Review: The Super Mario Bros. Movie - A Fun Ride That Substitutes Story For Spectacle
@AstroTheGamosian I would say ironically that works pretty well for Mario considering how Mario games have never really been about story
