Re: 50 Best Game Boy Color (GBC) Games Of All Time

WaffleRaptor01

I might be the only one who thinks Link's Awakening sad story is exaggerated.

I keep hearing fans talk about how you form a connection it's with characters only to be heartbroken in the end.

I'm not knocking the gameplay. That part is stellar, but I do question if alot of this supposed deep story stem from outside influences, because I found none of it in the game.

Link is a mute, you interact with the inhabits for no more than a few seconds, and the supposed closed bond you form with Marin seems questionable. There is virtually no character development, from start to finish. You just meet a cast of quirky individuals and then done.

You meet her a couple of times, she tells you about wanting to be reborn a bird, and then you're gone. You don't remotely spend enough time with the cast of characters to form any sort of believable bond.

The ending asks you to feel sad, but the game doesn't immersive you enough in it's world to feel sad at all. The remake, which had a chance to do that, doesn't.

That's why I wonder if some of that supposed deepness comes from outside factors, than from the actual game itself.

Re: Review: Sonic Superstars - A Fine, Authentic-Feeling Return That Runs Great On Switch

WaffleRaptor01

@Exerion76 Well to be fair, the team behind Mania had little choice in the matter. They were forced to include the old levels.

"Development of Sonic Mania began in 2015, led by Australian programmer Christian "Taxman" Whitehead. Whitehead was a prominent member of the Sonic fangame community, and had previously been contracted by Sega to develop remastered ports of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2, and Sonic CD for mobile phones. After developing the game for a few months, Whitehead presented a prototype, which he called Sonic Discovery, to series producer Takashi Iizuka. Iizuka was receptive, and suggested that it should include old levels from the early Sonic games it was inspired by, "remixed" in a way that felt new. He also gave it the working title of Sonic Mania, which stuck after no one suggested a better one."

Re: Video: Sonic Superstars Side-By-Side Graphics Comparison (Switch & PS5)

WaffleRaptor01

I wonder why the switch is even being compared at all here? At the time of it's release, the focus was on portable gaming, not heavy graphics like ps4 and xbox1.

Even after all these years later, it's no surprise ps5 is going to outshine Switch in every department. It will be the same for Switch 2 as well. Nintendo got out of the graphics wars years ago. It's now Microsoft and Sony going head to head.

Re: Sonic Superstars Gets A Day One Update On Switch

WaffleRaptor01

@epicgamner I don't think people blow it out of proportion. It's another annoyance on top of many with modern games today.
CyberPunk is a great example along with king Bethesda, of gamers frustration.

Games aren't getting cheaper, while the quality of them is not improving. If you pay 70$, you shouldn't need a 30 day waiting period of patches upon patches.

Between releasing games in alpha state, charging micro- transactions, ontop of dlc, with patch after patch just to get a game in beta; It's very frustrating. As a consumer, you should just be able to come home, sit down and jump right into the game.

Just look are the switch port of MK1. This is another example of release now, fix it later culture.

Re: Random: Nintendo Gives Princess Peach Some Facial Tweaks In 'Showtime!' Key Art

WaffleRaptor01

@BakaKnight I don't see as her having an attitude though. It's just making her seem more expressive which in turn translates that the game is a big adventure starring peach. It's more "this is gonna be epic."

Mario throughout the years has had a variety of expression on his covert art. Some similar to this tweaked version, yet you don't get "This is an edgy dude with a bad attitude" when you see him.

Peach should be allowed to have various expressive faces without a negative stigma attached.

Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Might Reveal A Surprise At New York Comic Con 2023

WaffleRaptor01

@Spider-Kev Well, I wouldn't say ruin, but they do feel out of place, and more like just Ed Boon fanboying his dreams into reality.

God of War was my favorite game, and even I admit, the crossover felt widely out place. Terminator, Spawn, Rambo, Omni-man, Homelander, Peacemaker, etc... Even for guest characters they just feel out of place.

Re: Talking Point: Should Link Have Voice Acting In The Next Zelda Game?

WaffleRaptor01

@RobynAlecksys Not a true Zelda fan just because they want a voiced Link? That is one the most anti-fans thing a Zelda fan could say.

Also, Links name has nothing to do with you the player at all. Originally his name was chosen because in a early development stage, Link would have the ability to travel between the past and future. Thus "linking" him between worlds.

No offense, but you could left out the last bit of your comment. That's just being rude to people who are true Zelda fans, but at the same time don't care if Link is voiced or not.

I've been playing this series since the 90's and more Zelda fan than probably some of the commenters here. I don't care if the dude talks or not. Just as long as the gameplay is good.

Re: Movie Review: The Super Mario Bros. Movie - A Fun Ride That Substitutes Story For Spectacle

WaffleRaptor01

@MatoFilipovic I don't think many critics had high expectations for a Mario movie, most likely none at all. Fans moreso given it was them vs Chris Pratt for like an entire year.

Critics see so many movies within a given year, that honestly, I'm willing to bet a good chunk of them didn't sit up all night posting blogs about the upcoming film and what they hope to see.

No two critics are alike.

Re: Site News: Love What We Do? Become A Nintendo Life Supporter!

WaffleRaptor01

@DarthFoxMcCloud Well, I mean if you had to pick, you would go with the most profitable. America of course.

Even most youtubers in Canada and Europe will admit that most of their viewers and support come from Americans. America when compared to Canada is simply more profitable so you appeal to the latter more.

Re: Indie Dev Headcannon Confirms It Helped Sega Update Sonic Origins Plus

WaffleRaptor01

@samuelvictor I don't think it was any personal bias. How many times? Well not much. Amy has been featured in many games since her debut.

-Sonic Cd
-Sonic Drift
-Sonic the fighters
-Sonic R

And just about every sonic game since Adventure.

The other two characters Ray and Mighty are more obscure. So it might have just been a tribute for their inclusion.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Octopath Traveler II?

WaffleRaptor01

@John_Deacon Look what we got here mates. A troll hater we do!
You gotta problem with us trolls? Get a jolly good go outta slurring our race do ya?

How would you like it if me and my mates went around calling any opinion we we don't like "human". Wouldn't feel good now would it? Quite demeaning eh?

This is exactly why we trolls don't get along with you lot. Always blaming us for everything.

Re: Mario Movie Directors Explain Their Take On Princess Peach

WaffleRaptor01

@Il_Nintenditore I honesty don't care about "forced" inclusion. It's damned if ya do and damned if ya don't. People just wanna get mad.

Hades is an awesome game yet the devs made a foolish mistake feeling the need to explain why they made some of the characters the way they did just to feed a troll. And this is an example of where you are damned nomatter the answer. The devs clearly explained they weren't trying to appease anyone and it was an artistic choice.

If the augment is let creators create what they want, then let them. Same thing with Deathloop. They wanted black protagonists and the director himself is black.

On the movie side of things, Miles Morales (spider-man) is direct creation of inclusion after actor Donald Glover received backlash for auditioning for Spider-man. Now here we are with both critics and fans saying Into The Spider-verse is the best Spider-man has been since the Raimi years.

As a fellow old guy this argument goes back as far as I can remember, and honestly there is no winning. Want to be more inclusive? You will be accused of pandering even if it's an artistic choice. I'm a minority, and I await the day to be accused of the same thing when my creation is unleashed into the wild. When it happens i'll just say "Okay" and move on.

Re: Poll: Would You Pay $70 For The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

WaffleRaptor01

@peterbasement The difference between eggs and games is one is more needed than the other.

Food and gas price hikes in the USA are hurting people, not helping them. The middle class is shrinking, and those on the low end of that class suffer more with the hike in prices for basic needs.

Sorry, I just think you could have used a better comparison to justify the price instead of something that most people rely on for basic subsistence.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom's Switch eShop Price Is $70 USD

WaffleRaptor01

@Serpenterror Sorry but no. Nintendo raised the price simply because they wanted to. SS HD did the bare minimum and is a half hearted port. To top it off, they hid a silly game feature behind an overpriced toy.

SS HD was 40$ game repackaged as 60$ new title plus whatever the toy cost. This is the same company that released Super Mario 3D All-Stars. A lazy port of 3 games that cost the same as Mario Odyssey new.
