Re: More Princess Peach: Showtime! Launch Goodies Revealed (US)

WaffleRaptor01

@Not_Soos I think the game just hasn't aged well. It didn't help that Peach was already a damsel in distress trope, but then to add insult; Her first solo outing as the heroine, she is shown to be a woman who's highly emotional.

That in itself was a stereotype used against women for why they make terrible leaders, and shouldn't be taken seriously. It didn't help that around that time, there was a slow movement happening about how women are portrayed in media.

So here you have two bad combinations. A Princess who can't save herself + A Princess who's emotional instability grants her random powers.

@WaveBoy You do realize many developers are at the behest of companies that own them right? You can't take risks if the people funding your bank account says no.

It's not that simple. Taking a risk means you're gambling on a high chance of failure. Especially if it's a new IP.

BOTW took a risk, but it had a history of successful games to allow that. It would have sold plenty if it was just the same formula from before.

Not every dev has the freedom to make the games they want. But a job is a job, and they do it to the best of their ability.

Blame it on gamers for not broadening their horizons, and would rather invest in sequels every year.

Re: Forget The Sonic Movie, The First Trailer Is Here For Knuckles' Spin-Off Show

@Phin68 Humans weren't always apart of Sonic's lore. In classic Sonic's original lore, the only human we knew was Robotnik. All the other sentient inhabitants were anthropomorphic creatures like Sonic.

Humans didn't appear until modern Sonic, in which Sega redid his universe.

However, the idea of Sonic coming to earth via portal is not original to the movie. That same premise is lifted straight from the first episode of the 2003 anime "Sonic X".

Re: Review: Eastward: Octopia (Switch) - A Great Farm Sim Expansion That Edges Out The Base Game

@JackieCMarlow It's not bad. It's just too much and not very well written. The amount of time you spend talking heavily outnumbers the time you spend playing.

The thing is, it's doesn't need that much dialogue. Scenes go on for far longer than they need too. Alot of that dialogue could be trimmed.

The dungeons and puzzles are so easy and short. It's like the devs enjoyed the writing more than they did fleshing out the gameplay.

A good example is the first 3 chapters. You can forgive chapter 1, because it's trying to introduce to its it world.

Chapter 2 comes, and the game for some reason comes to an abrupt hard stall. And for what? An unnecessary long and awkward love story, where none of the humor lands because the joke outstays it's welcome.

It's awkwardly paced and poorly written because it comes out of nowhere and adds nothing to overall narrative. It's random. Too random. It doesn't help that your protagonist is sitting there in awkward silence the whole time.

Again, the writing isn't bad. It's mediocre. It's hard to stay engaged when alot of the writing just meanders. It's hard to stay engaged when the sense of urgency comes to hard a stop for no reason.

A reviewer said it best "There are two lines where one would do, and one line where none would do."

There is no balance with the game. That would be fine, but trailers give off the impression you are in for an action rpg experience. What it fails to convey is that's only a tiny percent of what you'll actually experience.

All these things could be forgiven if the writing was trimmed. But, since there is so much of it, that mediocrity is on full display, and that's all one can notice.

Re: Review: Hitman: Blood Money - Reprisal (Switch) - Small But Potent QoL Additions Keep 47 Spry

@LikelySatan Well, the series never tried to hide what is was. It's mean spirited on purpose.

It's the reality albeit fantasy of contract killing. You aren't a hero. You are doing a job. That job is an ugly job, but it's reflected in a ugly word.

The game never tried to hide it's dark cynical nature. It actually embraces tiptoeing the line of morality. You aren't playing a character like Sam Fisher, or Solid Snake. You are playing the ultimate assassin. Designed for one purpose.

I can sympathize for you it may devalue some things, but I think by removing such restrictions, it allows players to truly indulge the role.

Re: Nintendo Hacker Gary Bowser Says He's "Not Involved" With New Switch Flash Cart

WaffleRaptor01

@Bigmanfan Just because he worked for them, still doesn't equal the punishment. You said it yourself, a PR guy. The true masterminds are the one who should receive the brunt of the punishment.

No is making Team executer out to be superheroes. It's just the punishment itself is excessive.

Billion dollar companies, get away with much worse than what Gary did, and yet many of them only get a slap on the wrist.

The idea of justice is suppose to be one that's fair, and allows the punished to redeem themselves and repay their dept to society. No one is proclaiming anyone is innocent in this at all, or not deserving of any kind of punishment.

The amount Gary made from his crime is a minimal compared to what Nintendo makes in a month. This is a slave debt, which he will never be able to pay off.

That is the extreme part many find uncomfortable.

No one in this situation is a good guy, or a hero, including Nintendo.

Re: Nintendo Releases Free Super Mario Bros. Movie 'Strategy Guide' (Japan)

WaffleRaptor01

@Uncle_Franklin Meh. the film is by illumination, the writer is behind Big Momma's house 3, and it's a video game movie. The only thing Mario had to top was the 90's film.

The bar was already low. Just a step over would have been enough, and Mario movie managed to pull it off. It's a win win for everyone. It was going to succeed regardless of the quality simply on brand recognition alone.

If it somehow failed, that would've been an anomaly for sure.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Wario Land: Shake It!

WaffleRaptor01

I just don't agree with others about the EU version. The main draw of the game is shaking the wiimote like a maniac. The Box art is just busy, and only in a small corner do you see the action which will be done in the game.

NA's version meanwhile is simple. It gets the point across without having so many things going on in the background. It conveys the very action you will be doing in the main game.

The picture of a mad man shaking a bad guy just looks more exciting. Meanwhile EU's looks plain.
