Re: Nintendo Launches a 'Switch Moments Come to Life' Commercial

VmprHntrD

Nice of them to throw EA a bone, but if EAs approach is globally like it was in the UK I think they'd want it to fail as an excuse to walk away. Minimum shipment order, not trying like hell to advertise it, skimping on the modes compared to any other release and it sells not well as it comes in at the same price for less.

If the ad helps sell more for EA great, but doing the Switch dirty as they have I can't say they really deserve it. There are far better developers placing their goods on there that showed trust all along big (Bethesda and to a much esser degree Capcom with the USF2 big sales surprise), and small (Nicalis.)

Re: Poll: Which is the Best Super Mario Game?

VmprHntrD

While the 3D games are nice, they don't hold a candle to the true precise well laid out challenges of the 2D style games and in particular super mario world.

The move to 3D may have improved the looks, but gameplay for platformers has always suffered due to the design. Cameras and weird angles/motion can get you killed. You even when a good one still will fight the mechanics to a degree and not just the pure challenge of the game. The old style stuff, failure was (bad design aside by some makers) entirely your fault because you failed to make the right motion, the right button push, the right choice. There wasn't the game fighting design problems of 3D fighting you, just the challenges ahead.

Re: Reggie on Backing Up Your Saves with the Switch

VmprHntrD

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Damn right, nice to agree at times with you. No cloud = paranoia over hacking. It's not though just based upon the saves, but also hacking in through a cloud network. They're thinking bigger and paranoia grows bigger. Look no further than the apple cloud fappening stuff that still continues. The last thing Nintendo wants is people backdooring a Switch through the cloud to steal personal info, private pictures, data, including save data that could hack an entry into booting warezed games. All of it they'd be held liable for.

Re: EA Says It's Still Too Early To Judge Demand For More Games On Switch

VmprHntrD

Ok who didn't predict this one?

They release a minimum amount of the games possible in the UK. Then they admittedly halfass the game and leave out parts the others have. Now they're saying they can't commit to more games at this time as it's too early to tell.

EA die in a fire already. Companies like you with your self imposed prophecies of doom deserve to rot.

Re: Bethesda Adopts "Popular Internet Saying" To Promote DOOM On Switch

VmprHntrD

I still have my SNES DOOM game and DOOM 64 (which oddly many don't realize is a unique release and not a port.) Beyond that I got in on the ground floor on an old 486dx33 back in the day with the original release and the sequel too. DOOM is an oddity that it lives in this slim realm where the old game still feels fresh enough not to show its age in bad ways (outside of visuals.)

Re: Bethesda Adopts "Popular Internet Saying" To Promote DOOM On Switch

VmprHntrD

I've amazon prime preordered this and skyrim from them, and will likely do wolfenstein as well since I think these games are more meant for controller play anyway as they're all initially designed as console titles. Nov 10-21 is going to be busy — doom, skyrim, axiom verge and rime I have all set to come. I rarely preorder but I did on this lot - got to love gift cards.

Re: Bethesda Adopts "Popular Internet Saying" To Promote DOOM On Switch

VmprHntrD

Graphics aren't that big of a deal as long as they don't come down to a point it hurts how the game functions especially when you're going on about a portable system. This allows you to the hottest mid 2016 FPS game from the name in FPS ('doom clone' been thrown around over 20 years now) wherever you want that isn't a PC or TV screen.

They put good work into it and felt there would be a benefit, same with the work done into Skyrim.

I think the marketing was wise trolling the crap out of the Nintendoomed pigeons.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Gives Its Full Tech Analysis of Super Mario Odyssey

VmprHntrD

@sword_9mm I'm aware of its limits, but I'm also very aware that no console developer will blow out their hardware within months of release too because it's a horrible business decision. If you max it out early since you can't throw added chips at it like the 80s and 90s did, you're stuck. We'll just see how it goes next go around on a Mario or Zelda title and draw comparisons then, or even a second generation release period game which perhaps Metroid would fall into since it has been worked on post-release while these things started pre-release.

Re: Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Will Arrive on Mobile in Late November

VmprHntrD

I can't even begin to say how I'm happy to see this and how it appears to really be a free full blown non-corner cut Animal Crossing experience as that long video has it all and more new too. Sure you can pay to speed up some timers, but it's wholly non-necessary in the least bit. They've taken a solid angle with it much like Pokemon Go/Magikarp Jump so only the impatient whale type fools will need to make the splash repeatedly. Perhaps if you feel rewarded enough with the time into it, buy a thing or two to pay them their respects.

Nintendo is showing they do care to make a game anyone can approach kids to adults while not making it as a pissy rotten cash grab to force you to pay and pay again just to advance the game along. I never though I'd trust a company with a free to play game to be honest about it, but they have.

Re: SFANS Provokes the Ire of Indiegogo Backers With Delay and Design Change

VmprHntrD

This shamble of a mess is why I've never supported any form of pandhanding on kickstarter or the rest. At least KS you're not having your money taken until after. The others they can just take your money immediately and use it to their own whims not being held accountable for changes (dramatic even like this one here) on scummy spots like indiegogo. I feel sorry for the backers, but not entirely as they knew what they were getting into if they read the site faqs on how the money gets used.

If they all get refunds nice, but I'm kind of inclined to believe that cash has been burned through.

Re: Talking Point: An Era Ends As Nintendo Continues to Ignore 3D on the 3DS

VmprHntrD

It was handled well in some games, not so well in many others, and even more so as a lame after thought. Had they maybe had a camera that didn't go all beer goggles on you with the slightest move at launch I think the feature would have been better loved and supported by far. It took years to make a simple fix and by then people just gave up and turned it off. I quit using it for years, even after the fix I used it for a bit but got used to and enjoyed it more without the depth so off it went again on the New3DS too. The 2DS is rocking it in all its styles and costs notably less without that disused feature so it's no surprise.

Re: Anniversary: It's One Year Since Nintendo Showed Us The Switch

VmprHntrD

The video sold me on Nintendo to give them another chance after being so burned on the WiiU and somewhat on the Wii too, the whole brand entirely really. I was done with them until they proved they wouldn't fail with a console when I thought it was just that. Once I realized it was a docked handheld that boosted performance on the TV I was good to roll the dice as they've not been colossal failures on the handheld front since day one.

Re: Limited Run Games Will Publish Physical Copies of Indie Titles On Switch Next Year

VmprHntrD

I have to be honest I can't say I'm happy about it. The title should be revised to 'scalpers rejoice.' Despite their claims only less than 1% end up being put up on ebay, given how much has landed there many times over their asking price I seriously doubt it. Hopefully some of the stuff they scrape up is regionally english outside the NA market like Setsuna and a few others were so honest gamers don't get screwed.

Re: EA Won't Entirely Rule Out Star Wars Battlefront II Coming To Switch

VmprHntrD

I don't see them making a move ever outside of sports games unless they're shamed by their betters in the third party world with continued profitable releases. EA is and always has been a pack of apex predators and cowards. They dive in and wreck studios gutting the talent and drive, then shuttering/firing the less desirables year after year decade after decade. Then they do these classy tactless games of make comment, do something halfassed, then point fingers as a hollow excuse to pull their stunts. I'm trying to recall the last time I bought one of their games as I don't care about sports titles and it has been years. They hold no appeal to me due to their dumb handling of games in general and equally so for all their franchises pretty much too. EA is no longer the vital necessity to be successful that they were 10-20 years back.

Re: Action RPG Moonlighter Has Been Confirmed for Switch

VmprHntrD

I'd think I would be able to really get into this. Has a Zelda/Secret of Mana look/style to it but with the other shopkeep angle if that plays anything into it other than the introduction.

Price though? I'll check steam.

Love to get that closing bit with the Switch controller as an animated gif.

Re: NSFW: Wolfenstein II's Launch Trailer Shows The Many Ways To Skin A Nazi

VmprHntrD

Bethesda really knows how to work with the US terrain, the imagery there to really infuriate the hell out of people making them want to put a knife into every last jack booted nazi in that game. I had not seen the national mall before like that nor with lincoln's statue beheaded with hilter's on it. That actually got me a bit mad. I can't wait to open fire.

Re: Soapbox: The Switch Has a Big Problem, and It's Too Many Great Games

VmprHntrD

Being spoiled by third parties and first alike for the first time in a year which hasn't been seen on the TV side since the SNES period — IS NOT A PROBLEM. I hope we start all having that as a problem.

You want a problem, the lousy eshop setup. Once a game has been on it long enough it drops off unless you search damn near almost by name to find it. I'd be pissed off and offended if I had a game on there no one could find as you don't get paid.

Re: Rumour: Keymailer Lists Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy for the Switch

VmprHntrD

If it said playstation first on some of their cycled information then yes it probably would go to Switch if Activision likes to make money. You have a beast of a handheld that can dock to a TV and if it can rake in the full support of a far better company like Bethesda (among others) they'd be fools not to jump on board. But even if they are fools you'd think it would hit at least the PC and maybe MS's box too.

Re: Review: Tiny Barbarian DX (Switch)

VmprHntrD

I'm not kidding, care to link a side by side image and tell me how the 32 year old NES game has more graphical detail? The hero was drawn that was with intent, Mario lacks a face more or less too with just a dot for an eye and an oddly shaped moustache to create the illusion of a face. The barbarian has more bodily detail, fluidity of motion, and more detailed body animations.

The terrain obviously has that early 1990s (not 80s) DOS game look, Apogee games in particular like Keen and Jill of the Jungle. SMB1 has the farther lack of detail of an EGA PC game and I'm hating writing this as a knock.

Going further you're going to choose to see what parts you wish to see of the game from the outside and not actually really get into the whole of it. I'll choose to disagree playing into the game so unless you really enjoy this back and forward we probably should drop it and leave people to do proper research on their own.

Re: Soapbox: Breath Of The Wild Is Amazing, But Is It The 3D Zelda That Enthusiasts Expected?

VmprHntrD

It's the Zelda game even the blind Zelda lovers subconsciously knew needed to happen. The series interest was starting to wane looking at the sales despite the usually overly high scores they trended with. Each was just a tired re-run with a new coat of thinning paint on a setup that had rotten and got old since Ocarina of Time and the Wind Waker. Zelda needed something for both people who cared for the lore, but those who also wanted a good motivation to try something new or to return fed up with how things were. I was basically done caring as the games just got more boring, worse in that respect, and me finishing less on the next from the last since Wind Waker. This game re-sold me on the franchise and it needs to be this way going forward. Let it in a way be Nintendo's elder scrolls style game.

Re: DOOM Confirmed for Nintendo Switch Launch on 10th November

VmprHntrD

This really is shaping up to be a holiday Nintendo can not lay claim to in first and third party quality since the SNES period. Not to burn on the Gamecube which exceeded the n64 and Wii/WiiU in such options but it never saw this much A to AAA material in a short period of holiday shopping season time.

Re: DOOM Confirmed for Nintendo Switch Launch on 10th November

VmprHntrD

I have it on PC but I really want it on here even more. I think the dedicated controller would help it play a bit better too and being portable is a big plus. Skyrim I'll grab too, only way I could see myself really committing it on the Switch as the PC would just distract me. I could easily put BOTW hours on that one in this format. ...and then comes Wolfenstein. Bethesda is being a trail blazer let's hope others learn from their work well.

Re: Nintendo is Reportedly Eager to See More Mature Games on the Switch

VmprHntrD

"An unnamed executive says that Nintendo was 'passive' towards more mature content in the past, but has now changed gear and is more open. "

Translation: We got our arses handed to use because we chose to only focus on family friendly and the developers made a run for it. Or they released screwy cutesy stuff only infuriating our buyers over the age of single digits.

Glad they finally got on board and it appears the buyers may very well have too given the real positive outlook on the Bethesda offerings so far. If this isn't another Nintendo idiot fanbase says one thing but then buys the other (ie: 1st party only) it's a good setup for some success finally.

Re: Switch eShop Adds New Section for Discounted Games

VmprHntrD

How about an actually useful eShop layout that doesn't require you to buy something out in the last month or it drops off without going through special search filters or perhaps having to know the actual name of the game to buy it??

That's the real problem. About as bad as walking into a grocery store as a blind person and realizing none of the food has braille on it. Damn near useless without help.

Re: Review: Tiny Barbarian DX (Switch)

VmprHntrD

After you went and had to say that SMB1 has better pixel art that entirely nullifies your ability to make an actual judgement. That's not a knock against that excellent game but it's very low detail and lower color use and all around sparse detailing at best. A lot of detailing went into Tiny Barbarian. But hey, if your eyes are that bad, and a standard NES game difficulty is too frightening for you this game clearly isn't for you and clouds your judgement.

The content is there, your choice not to believe it. Same level of content found in other 2D 3DS, DS, and GBA era platformers which like Switch are also portable too, and often enough those DS/3DS games weren't $30 but $40. A case of cheap/free/freemium mobile game pricing making things look expensive over the $5 mark here.

Re: Niantic CEO on the Near Future of Pokémon GO

VmprHntrD

I pay out out of force of habit, not really enjoyment now. I for some dumb reason am determined to see some stuff in the game yet. I've got Gen1 stuff (10~) not including mew/mewtwo level rarity that have never once shown up even in a gym in most cases. It's quite infuriating they can not better balance the game to give a stab at anything that isn't regional. It has been out 15mo now if I remember right and I still have no porygon among others.

Re: Superbeat: Xonic Receives New Switch Release Date

VmprHntrD

I don't know what difficulty that clip was on, but if that's normal I'm not even in the slightest bit interested as that's fast and coming at multiple angles. I don't mind a build up but if that's how it is out of the gate aside from the usual given training first beat no way.

Re: Review: Tiny Barbarian DX (Switch)

VmprHntrD

@Alcovitch I was and I said I got pissed and walked from it for a couple days. Last night I took another stab at it with 2-3 more fails and got to the top. I couldn't figure out how to get across what you were talking about either at first with the breakable wall. I ended up slashing and pulling back to re grab the chain. I don't think all the moves are documented or at least how to get them going as some stuff is chained which is less easy to do off of a hanging chain.

If you're right in that other post they docked review points over price, the reviewer is a coward. You don't take points away reviewing the game content over a personal opinion over the cost of it. That's just despicable. Also, the price is justified and it's in parity as it's $30 on Steam too. It was a $15 game with 2 chapters, so now it's a $30 with 4 chapters. That seems about right to be. Double content, double the price.

Re: Square Enix Explains Why The Secret Of Mana Remake Isn't Coming To Switch

VmprHntrD

So they hope to continue listening to their customers? Selective hearing? People been complaining for the compilation package since it was announced and that hasn't happened. This SOM remake is another story and fair enough, but no reason not to fire it off at a later date just like the FFA(SD1) GB game came on different platforms at different times. Yoda said it best, do or do not, there is no try. Do it.

Re: Review: Tiny Barbarian DX (Switch)

VmprHntrD

I've got it but one thing this game review neglects to hit upon is a roller coaster level of challenge. Never quite really easy, but you'll be going along and the developers decide to throw some truly horribly cheap section that'll push your aggravation limits through the roof. The elevator with the soldiers, bees and spikes is pure hell in the game as one spot. I got furious after enough attempts at it a couple days ago and haven't picked it up since going into the Mario and Luigi 3DS release that came the same day.

Those complaining about the price, you do realize this has 4 chapters against the 1-2 you paid for years ago at $10-15 right? It's done, and costs $30 on Steam too.
