Re: Poll: Have Your Say on the Best Main Series 3D Mario and Zelda Games

VmprHntrD

So much fanboying for Zelda. Don't get me wrong, great franchise story wise but some of the games are just not good due to critical issues nonsensical types overlook. Mario has been largely more consistent inside of both the 2D and 3D realm. Could be worse, have a pack of age specific people prattling on how FF7 is unbeatable - hah.

Re: World Heroes Is Your Next Neo Geo ACA Release On Switch

VmprHntrD

A fantastic release. If there was a game you'd call the comparable to the original Street Fighter II in general moves/behavior of the enemies this is an excellent counterpart. Not as full of fluff and moves as later games, but it's right there between SF2 and SSF2 in style.

Re: Review: Gear.Club Unlimited (Switch)

VmprHntrD

For what it is I figured it was a 7 quality game, above average with a good backbone. Reading it I got the same feeling reaffirmed, and guessed right on the score too. Great job by the developer and publisher for picking it up too. Where people were mocking that post months ago for it being all shovelware garbage it seems something from the mix is shaking out better than a bag of burning poo on the front doorstep of the switch.

Re: Anniversary: The Super Famicom Is Now 27 Years Old

VmprHntrD

@Shiryu It's the internet, 50/50 it lives on for decades or gets lost. As long as someone archives, buys it, or keeps reimaging it to youtube or whatever is there 10 20 years out it'll stand. Especially if people keep caring about and Nintendo keeps in business at least for those tracks. Obscurity is murder and much of what's on your site is gamer culture relevant.

Re: Square Enix on What to Expect on the Switch in the Future

VmprHntrD

Well if they're talking back catalog I wouldn't read into it more than I would read into what they've done on Android so far — SNES/NES(updated) ports, and then perhaps that Chaos Ring series too, and perhaps those DS/3DS games as well as they'd fit comfortably too. I just don't see them going — hey let's dust of Secret of Evermore.

Re: Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Launches This Week

VmprHntrD

I hate to say it of any franchise, but I think this may be best yet given it's on a mobile phone format because we know Nintendo aren't parasitic jerks when it comes to dishing out things in the game vs paying. They have this nice setup where you truly can buy or not, not feel limited, and so enjoy it you're cool paying up as a thank you vs being choked until coins fall out like most others.

This game being on a mobile device gives it unprecedented freedom never had before being stuck on a closed console/handheld device. Now you truly can be global with it and what better game than Animal Crossing. Visit, trade, find new stuff, make new friends, so much more exploration and tethered to an existing device you already carry every day anyway. This has victory written all over it well beyond what Mario, Fire Emblem, and likely Pokemon Go does too (since it has interest bursts around new Gens popping up.)

Re: Don't Worry, Switch WWE Fans - 2K Hasn't Forgotten About You

VmprHntrD

@BravelyDavid That may be somewhat true. But I also think that isn't just the Switch but all versions. It's a known thing about the game engine that it isn't well made. The crappiest problems to least messed up go - Switch, XB1, PS4, PC. The XB version has quite a few problems matching Switch but it just gets less pauses/stuck but still is all over the board. PS4 has it but isn't a consistent problem. PC has it too, but if you temper your settings (say like 720p/1080p level) it will be your best bet. It's a great idea for a game with a good layout but incredibly rotten design that even the porting company for them on Switch couldn't do anything with. It explains the delay, they tried to make it suck less and in turn got nowhere or made it worse.

I've just resolved to buy quite a few third party Switch games, when they're done right. But if I have another option if it's fouled up I will seek my revenge of sorts. Games like RIME, Sine Mora, Yooka Laylee, and looking like Battle Chasers they are all on GOG.com which means an actual download full install you can own, make your media out of whatever - same controls as Switch. Buy it there, just wait out at least a 50% off sale. NO need to reward people who are screw ups with full price.

Re: Guide: The Top Nintendo Black Friday 2017 Deals in the US

VmprHntrD

@BradC40 No what I mean by speed is how a card is rated. 533x whatever that is from the maker is just fluff. There's set standards in the memory card industry that break down how fast a card is by the rating it gives in class and type. You might be best off googling what the terms on a memory card mean. UHS=? Class =? stuff like that. A 533x card (guessing Lexar as they do that stuff and their cards are also garbage) isn't great but not awful either at 80mb/sec.

Re: VS. Super Mario Bros. Arcade Archives Release Set for Festive Arrival on Switch

VmprHntrD

I said it yesterday but I'll do it again. Please stop confusing SMB for VS SMB. While graphically the same, the games are not. The arcade game has different pits, blocks, enemies and placement, and it's more aggressive. It's a challenge between SMB1 and SMB2(Jp on Famicom Disk System aka Lost Levels.)

Don't think buying it means you're re-buying another identical copy of SMB on NES.

Re: VS. Super Mario Bros. Arcade Archives Release Set for Festive Arrival on Switch

VmprHntrD

@bezerker99 They're not ports, that would imply they're the same. All of them to some minor to huge degree are very much unique games. VS Super Mario Bros may have the same level of stages but each of them has been dramatically altered with new holes, blocks, traps and enemies/enemy placement to make it a nastier game. PunchOut is another that's very much different as is Balloon Fight, but then stuff like Ice Climber and even Mario Bros are largely much more similar to the NES content.

Re: Guide: The Top Nintendo Black Friday 2017 Deals in the US

VmprHntrD

I had a memory card fail in the last week on a rotten quality lexar and that 3rd replacement was my last (snapped it) and got that 128GB Samsung mentioned up top and it's speedy, fantastic. Can not recommend it enough. I can only guess when/if I will fill it since I buy physical games.

Re: Review: RiME (Switch)

VmprHntrD

This game is being favored with a 6. The game on the whole, anything off the PC is a disrespectful release but the Switch in particular is a kick in the teeth after being spat upon. Clearly the small team who made this engine over probably too many years got in over the heads and oafishly threw band-aid after another at it to make it tick. None of the console/handheld releases are good when it comes to fluidity and fps stability, but to then sully the Switch with much of the secondary detail being removed and an even shoddier framerate shows how badly the game was made from the inside out before the farmed out broker ported it. The PC game even runs not great unless you keep it in a 720/1080p level. Very disappointing incompetent release for Switch and in general on the whole.

I still want it, but I'm leaning on a fall/winter GoG sale for 33-50% off as I have good hardware to get it running at least right.

Re: Video: RiME Is An Example Of How Not To Port A Game To Switch

VmprHntrD

Holy crap that's awful. I can deal with a 30fps game, but when you stutter often down into the single digits in a game that makes the detail level of a game like Wind Waker look as detailed as Skyrim in being alive and fluid you've gone and screwed up hard core. Clearly it's not a Switch problem, it's a developers poorly made engine problem. Every release of the game looking into it is bad except if you have some really truly solid PC parts and keep it as a reasonable 720 or 1080p level. PS4 has problems, the One has a few more problems, but the Switch runs like arse and the remove a lot of the secondary details?! Why?! Clearly the engine is so poorly made it scales badly and has code bugs all over the place since it's not an isolated problem.

I've pulled up my amazon queue and i'm just mulling clicking the cancel button. I'd rather pay 50% or better (fall sale) on GoG and get something that looks and runs not like hot garbage like all console/handheld versions are.

Re: Sonic Forces on Switch Has Solid UK Launch as DOOM Moves Up the Charts

VmprHntrD

I take it the weight given here to the piddly arsed tiny UK market is because the site is based there? This isn't excusing the Doom sales or the rest, but I think a bigger picture is needed from the actual larger markets that dominate most the sales being accounted and that's for any game on any platform. No matter where the game may fall on some sliding scale against others, in the end profit is all that drives any cares. If what they put into it is pulled back out and a tidy sum after that's how you see more things happen.

Re: Review: Revenant Saga (Switch eShop)

VmprHntrD

Given what Kemco does on mobile, they probably just gave up realizing they'd do better with their efforts on that side of things to make a buck. Given the mediocrity I'm probably not far off the mark which is a shame. Had this bagged a 7-8 range score I'd be tempted.

Re: Nintendo Isn't Ready To Talk About Any More "Classic" Console Releases

VmprHntrD

It's an interesting comment but so open ended you can't even begin to interpret anything from it including watching him as he says it. It's just a different way to say no comment without saying no comment. No comment often means you're onto something and I can't talk. Doing that leaves it more in the air which is where they need to be on it. The NES is coming back in larger scalper nut twisting numbers next summer and the SNES will be kept alive well into 2018 perhaps along side it even. They don't want to further cause pressure or cannibalize into that saying hey we're doing the N64. Gameboy maybe they'd get away with as it would be a portable game box, but another console I wouldn't count on that until the following year if they do it.

Re: Video: See How Well DOOM Holds Up on Switch Compared to Xbox One

VmprHntrD

@Alcovitch I do too. I'm running an i7 with a 980 nvidia chip. Don't think your attempt at diminishing my post acting like one of the reviled PC master race type people getting snooty about frame rates makes a bit of difference. As long as the play is smooth, getting uppity about how many frames beyond the eye can perceive as a blunt force weapon really matters.

Re: Ubisoft Thinks The Next Console Cycle Isn't Far Away, So Where Does That Leave Switch?

VmprHntrD

Given the investment on these 2 other fish to make PRO versions of their existing hardware to allow for 4K and a bit more while mandating that games work across the platform in general I don't think so. They've lost a lot going into this race with loss leading tactics and going into these 2 nearly clones with a basic PC hardware setup internally they want it to stick around to make some good profit. As long as they can keep the parts the same but upgrade in a way to include and not exclude more while maximizing profit what benefit is there to kill these things off? As long as they keep inching it slightly while still using the same branding they can live off this hardware for an easy decade (from the base model.)

Re: System Shock Reboot On Switch "Not Off The Table"

VmprHntrD

Add it as a stretch goal so it doesn't come out well after the others and bomb over it if you're going to do it. If the desire is there the Nintendo fans who trust kickstarter funding (I never pay into them to be honest) will push it to that limit to make a point to have it done.

Re: Investment Banking Firm Predicts Switch Will Sell 115.8 Million Units By 2023

VmprHntrD

I think they're (and this is a cop out) 50/50 on it. It will come into play with just a few key things.

  • Kill the 3DS sooner than later forcing a 1 Nintendo focus
  • Keep the momentum up
  • Back half of 2018 forward shows all this promised big sustained 3rd party support Nintendo has lacked solidly since the SNES.

DO that, yes, definitely it would crack 100M when you figure the entire handheld is built modular with pop 'n swap parts inside. They can do as they do with any off the line tablet or modern pc in a box console — update the parts, retain the core name and compatibility with games.

Re: New Fire Emblem Warriors Update Basically Turns The Game Into Ghouls 'n Ghosts

VmprHntrD

Yup very Super GnG with that when you think about it so nice historical reflection there.

I won't be getting this. I've tried to like warriors games and no matter what they stuff it into with even a loved franchise like Gundam in the past for one, I can't deal with it after a few hours. It gets both boring and also a bit annoying too.

Either way Nov has Doom, Skyrim, Axiom Verge, and RIME so I'll have too much to deal with anyway for awhile and I'm piddling along slowly with mario so it's unfinished by a long shot too.

Re: Bandai Namco To Announce Three Big Switch Titles Early Next Year

VmprHntrD

I'm hoping given the Namco flair on Nintendo devices we end up seeing a Tales game (like on 3DS/Cube), Ridge Racer (thanks to N64/DS stuff), and perhaps I suppose a fighter maybe Tekken since we got Pokken Fighter. If not that if they have some obvious DBZ/Super sequel in the pipes then that would be the fighter and an excellent choice.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Analysis Points To Switch Sonic Forces Being The Worst Version

VmprHntrD

I kind of don't see why this is either news or an issue.

The PS4/One are consoles, full fledged HD level/4K level consoles anchored to a TV with more powerful processors that can cough up better frame rates(60 solid) and more details and textures along with polgyons on the whole. The Switch can render the graphics effects of them but not the complexity of the models or the same frame rate though a solid 30 is perfectly smooth and normal. It's a handheld device that can run much what the others can do, just scaled back to within its limits. So yeah duh, least best of the lot, but it never was intended to be anything but a portable release and not a tv anchor.

Re: Random: Here's Why SNES Shooter Phalanx Had That Weird Banjo Guy On Its Cover

VmprHntrD

@Shiryu Wow beautiful, wish I had known of that before as that looks great.

And all in all you know this game actually is pretty good. There was also a conversion of it later on for the GBA as well so you can have it on the go or on your SNES. I kind of wish I still had it but I never get around to trying to track it down. Yeah I could ebay it, but that's less fun.

Re: Sky Force Reloaded Is Coming to the Switch

VmprHntrD

I have it on my phone and it's a rare bird given I tolerate it despite the big emphasis on paying to proceed because of how poor your weapons are to start and the steep curve on earning very very slowly stars to power up to a respectable level which I tired of doing with any effort. If they allow the ship to come in full steam or have some basic 1-2 level ramp up of the gear so it fits a normal game style what is there is fantastic and would work.
