More of a list of problems than games speaks for itself really..... Nice to see NL go into the problems, an article really was needed to reflect the issues. Another one would be good to go into the actual system failures and establish an idea how many units might me affected. The biggest disappointment for me over this saga has been the reactions of members of this community, I've used NL for years and healthy debates are a great part of sharing similar views( and different ones). We have been through allot of ups and downs over the Wii u era π Some people on here are actually bullying the people with different views right now, if you don't like the switch (an opinion shared by a few posters) then you must be a fool and a hater and nobody should respect you.....This is simply a horrible childish stance to take and ruins the enjoyment of this site for me. I'm not sure if I will consider myself a regular in future. We wouldn't use this site unless we all liked Nintendo, not everyone will like the same games and systems but we should show a little respect when others have different views. I personally don't like the switch, not yet, it doesn't have the games I want to play and I don't need a portable. The problems I have seen have put me off the reliability of the hardware unless proven stable after launch. I have concerns personal to me and my taste. I sell smart devices for a living so maybe that puts me into a demanding niche but the hardware has yet to win me over. It will I'm sure, but more games and a colour I prefer may be needed to pull me in. @SLIGEACH_EIRE don't worry, I'm not saying you're wrong. Just that UK wise, they are making SOME effort at least to advertise. They cant go from useless to perfect overnight but in this respect, from my own experience.(Hull- Yorkshire) there are efforts being made. And this is from someone who isn't even won over by the switch yetπ€
@SLIGEACH_EIRE @ironside1911 I'll defend Nintendo over one thing before I start.....I HAVE seen tons of ads on UK TV..... LOADS. In this respect they have stepped up imo. For now. Everything else is still unproven launch hype and has no numerically based proof of success. It's no different to kids bickering on the playground without cold hard numbers. That gave number at this point of the Wii u launch....And also said it did very well, selling out in many placesπ€
My main concern, one which is strangely missing from this news feed is the internet going viral with switch problem after problem......The sales are a cross to bear if high and the hardware faulty in large numbers. If you Google switch right now it will list unhappy customers for the most part!! I'm genuinely put off the hardware due to numerous problems and without game's to play. How long will people keep rushing to buy an unreliable console??
Didn't they say the same thing about the Wii U launch??? I distinctly remember that being a solid launch, I went to a 'crazy' midnight opening which 'sold out' and the staff ' hadn't seen anything like it'.... Mainly because they turn over new staff every other month and they are overexcitable teenagers!! The switch may or may not do well (I've seen tons of ads on TV) but this launch day hype means zero in the big picture π
I'd say about 80% of my fondest gaming memories are on this console. I love the N64....I have about 5 right now and spent most of last week stripping and refurbishing N64 padsππ Snowboard kids, Goldeneye, ocarina of time, wave race, diddy Kong racing, banjo kazooie......There's just so many classic games that I love!!!
@Snader first of all yes, I have multiple SD cards with games stored for my Wii console. This is despite the tiny size of download files allowed on the Wii generation π The ps3 model you are referring to was released 10 years ago at launch , the lower memory/entry level ones I refer to , released 5 years ago for a fraction of that cost (120ish?) as memory gets cheaper every year and the need for sales necessitated a more attractive price point and consumer choice. Since Nintendo needs to attract new consumers to the brand they must offer competitive value in their products. To win people over. You can buy a more powerful console (xb1 for example) with 1tb solid state drive for less than the price of a switch without any accessories or games. I'm a loyal Nintendo fan but the 'value' offered to the consumer is minimal in comparison when you remove the selling point of portability. When I say that the cost of an SD card is pence when bought by the million I mean it. It would have cost Nintendo around 50p a unit tops to bundle one in. This would damage their profits to a tiny degree but the idea of value would be far greater to the consumer. They do it with the 3ds don't they? Don't lump me into the 'should be the same as ps4/xbone's ' category. I do appreciate the model they have chosen, giving us choice, but I think that 32gb is just an insult to industry standards in this area. I believe 64gb is the minimum that should in the box!!
@Yasume im in your camp dude, I also think that 32gb is a joke. I sell smartphones and tablets for a living. Mobile devices is something I have allot of experience with but I'm not a portable gamer as it's too much like work π. Alot of rose tinted spectacles on here I think? People comparing to a low-hdd ps3 forget that that model was cheap, far cheaper than a switch! How much memory would an 'entry level' switch come with ππ People saying it's not going to need much forget how many download only games Wii u received compared to the generation before. How much storage the system requires gets bigger over time. And most importantly how standard it is to release half finished games with major patches required. Nintendo doesn't do this often but the entire rest of the industry updates broken/unfinished games during launch and beyond. The whole industry isn't going to change to make it easier for switch users. Finally, the cost!?! If you can buy a smartphone with 64gb storage for under Β£99 then you can use the same memory for a 'premium gaming device' which is how the switch is being priced/marketed atm. I firmly believe that the memory is a major issue with the switch.i feel its a badge of shame to have made no progression from the last generation in terms of numbers. The market is embarrassingly driven by 'higher numbers' even if we (as Nintendo fans) I'm admittedly not the person this device is aimed at. I'm only a Nintendo fan boy π All these people saying that it would affect the cost forget the fact that these things are much cheaper to buy by the million so it really would be far cheaper for them to foot the bill ahead of expecting the consumer to do so. Wouldn't as much of an issue if they included a 32gb SD card straight out of the box. This would have cost them pense π
An RPG maker??.....Not for me. Can't think of a more time consuming gaming option ππ Great if this is your thing though, massive value in this type of purchase. If you've got the spare time?
@KiWiiU_Freek yeah, some kind of link would be cool. I'm not a massive CIB collector like you, I have allot of loose stuff so I can play more otherwise I might have just 3 game's, but mintππ. Man, I wish mail order was cheaper from you, I'd be bumming for swaps!! Strange thing is the only games I collect boxed are RARE(ware) games. I want them all, got allot but I know conker's gonna be pricey π
@KiWiiU_Freek wow, that's ALLOT of games....I'm jealous!! What's the prize game in your collection? Mine is a boxed banjo tooie that's perfect......But no manual π₯ I'm on a big hunt for some transparent n64 stuff right nowπ I'd assumed you'd get sb kids 2 cheaper as it never came out in UK. Just NTSC/aus-pal???
Well I'm shaking my fist but with my eyes open. As others have said, awfully timed announcement from Nintendo. Had they waited until even 1 day after release this wouldn't cause issues with most.... It's another case of wrong information at the wrong time from a PR point of view, negative criticism before a big launch is ALWAYS bad and the Nintendo PR machine has been terribly erratic for years now. Boom and then bust with no obvious strategy. Well Zelda DLC was inevitable and it's happening but it's a tightrope now to make this gain new customers for the brand without upsetting the hardcore fans.
In my opinion, a good news story like free DLC for Zelda if you have a my Nintendo account or for day 1 purchasss. Even as free on Wii u, paid on switch or discounts for owning both would have done the brand Image waaaay more help at this delicate time????
@KiWiiU_Freek I also collect n64 games and still play them. Lost 3 hour's to snowboard kids the other day. Mega jealous of your snowboard kids 2 though. That game is mega rare in England and I'll likely never get to play it. Real shame games like this never make it to the VC, it's normally just the games you can actually still buy π€
@cfgk24 would leaks be bad if it revealed that the hardware was loads better than expected and created a hardware buzz and helped sales?? You can't judge the reactions to something if the facts create the spin. The facts are what things should always be judged on. Not advertising spin, media hype or mega-price sales. If the facts are painful and damaging, blame the people who created that situation, not the people who were honest enough to tell you.
Well leaks like this are bound to happen if you create an atmosphere of absolute desperation for basic information on a product you want people to pay more than average value for!?!?!?? Nintendo absolutely deserves this kind of thing, they show no respect to the market they rely on to survive and are ignorant to what people actually do and say on the internet so consistently it almost insults us. There is so much basic information missing from the switch package that I'm surprised it's sold as much as it has. It may be amazing in time but I'm still waiting for a reason to buy one ahead of my Wii u. What more does it offer that that console for a home gamer!?! Maybe someone will leak a reason soon π
Consoles are not fun, GAMES on consoles are fun. HD rumble Could be the bees knees but it'll boring without games. We're all waiting to see if this steady stream of software over 2017 materialises and what gets announced for 2018 near the end of the year. I'll be anxiously waiting for something to pull me inπ΅
@Alshain01 I'm 100% with you on this. No love for portability at all so all I see is a weak launch line up (worse than Wii u's) and overpriced accessory options I would need out of the box just for a d pad. I'll buy when they release a bundle that includes what I need to play Nintendo games on the hardware. Oh , and when there's actually some games π
Nothing for me as I continue to work through my backlog..... Was tempted by the runbow DLC but still can't get into the game overall so won't risk wasting the money until I do. I had an embarrassment or riches in terms of unstarted e shop titles to work through. I'm playing swindle right now and it's great, and legend of Kay is good if a little clunky!?!
@kamikazilucas do you mean you think it should last longer or you think that's not big enough? I'm personally surprised it's so small, it's similar to most high end smartphone releases coming out now. I'd have thought that a switch would have way bigger power demands than a smartphone!?!
@SPMarioSousa95 I believe the concerns center around the idea that is gives your console a finite lifespan. You can only charge a lithium ion battery so many times before it holds less power than before. Once the hardware only lasts 30 mins on a full charge for example it would make it pretty useless as a portable....
So what IS the target demographic again?? I'm confused who they are trying to sell to in this commercial!?! Ive not seen a child anywhere near their ads, it looks like they are aiming at young adults and student types..... In which case where are they showing these adverts as I haven't seen anything actually bon TV at all.
And so the competition begins.....Switch vs 3ds!!! They can't both sell equally well AND get the same games so one is going to be 'chosen' ahead of the other on and off for a while now..... Can't believe the marketing messages Nintendo are sending out right now. Very contradictory.
@WOLF1313 agreed, they are struggling to offer software that sells the need to spend money on the hardware. They appear to be relying on the 'its also a portable' factor but there isn't any software that shows this as unique. It's very similar to the launch of the Wii u imo, only with fewer games and far less third party support. Time will tell but the whole this just looks to me like a massive fail......Again......
Let's water down everything because it's better for everyone to have the same experience on every console right?? We'll show our fans no respect at all in making their own mind up what they prefer and then we'll talk all over the press about how the switch has a unique and exciting launch line up consisting of nothing new at all from Nintendo on their new hardware because everything is just old recycled Wii U games we wanted a better margin on......
@Sakura tbh, I'm holding out on getting a switch at all until they announce more games. I don't play modern handhelds so I'm all about the game's before I'm sold. I'll play Zelda and my backlog on my Wii u and have a look at the situation at Christmas. Mario looks good but I'm hoping for pikmin 4 or something more than what's there before I bite π
@Sakura I hadn't thought of that! A new joy con option would be great, customisable joy cons in general would be a real draw for me. Although it's all more expense.....π€
Call me slow but I've only just clicked that there is no d-pad included in the box at all!!! So that means to play the free/borrowed SNES and nes games you need to spend Β£65 on ANOTHER pad!?!? That can't be right......And that means any VC on the go will be without d-pad right? Well that's just pants..... Retro platform games are simply not as good without one, flabbergasted!!
Ouch!!!! Just more cost stacking up for the consumer while the memory provided in the bundle hasn't moved on a bit. I'm not against them having a smaller memory than rivals but 32gb is a rip off given the price. It's probably re-used hardware from in sold Wii u units π I'll probably get a 64gb card when I eventually get a switch. I simply don't trust larger SD cards due to their higher failure rate!
@AhabSpampurse I always prefer to buy local of scruffy games stores if you have any left where you live. Harder and harder to do it this way nowπ₯ Otherwise, try and see if their are any trader groups on Facebook that include your area, try geek trader (insert city name hereπ) or something like that. Things are always better when dealing with like minded people, more trust. Failing all that, cex have a great return policy and get will let your get hands on before you shell out. I avoid online purchases out of principle, even though allot rely on online, mainly because I'm unlikely to return a faulty/substandard product so it would cost me double later.....I'm a bit old school maybe!?!
Yay Nintendo preporations!! Always soo good at stock and preorders and electronic purchases and online. So glad they are as good at this now as in the past. Fills me with confidence that they understand their own market demands πππ
Wow, that would be a great buzz finding all that. I'm an n64 man , so I guess I can still dream of buying a house with a loft filled with translucent consoles and copies of conker's quest and Banjo tooie...... I'd settle for a new pad even....looks up at loft hatch
Great same that deserves more people playing it. The improvements will fulfill the potential the game had on Wii u! One big question for this and mk8 is whether we can play local-switch to switch multiplayer without split screen? The trailers all show a 4 way split on 4 screens!!
Really good article, we're starting to see the real Nintendo life opinions slipping through nowπ I respect that a lot! My views have been pretty negative so I'll save you another rant today........

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Will Not Feature HD Rumble
Let's water down everything because it's better for everyone to have the same experience on every console right?? We'll show our fans no respect at all in making their own mind up what they prefer and then we'll talk all over the press about how the switch has a unique and exciting launch line up consisting of nothing new at all from Nintendo on their new hardware because everything is just old recycled Wii U games we wanted a better margin on......
Re: Guide: The Best Nintendo Switch Accessories
@Sakura tbh, I'm holding out on getting a switch at all until they announce more games. I don't play modern handhelds so I'm all about the game's before I'm sold. I'll play Zelda and my backlog on my Wii u and have a look at the situation at Christmas. Mario looks good but I'm hoping for pikmin 4 or something more than what's there before I bite π
Re: Guide: The Best Nintendo Switch Accessories
@Sakura I hadn't thought of that! A new joy con option would be great, customisable joy cons in general would be a real draw for me. Although it's all more expense.....π€
Re: Guide: The Best Nintendo Switch Accessories
Call me slow but I've only just clicked that there is no d-pad included in the box at all!!! So that means to play the free/borrowed SNES and nes games you need to spend Β£65 on ANOTHER pad!?!? That can't be right......And that means any VC on the go will be without d-pad right? Well that's just pants..... Retro platform games are simply not as good without one, flabbergasted!!
Re: Switch Will Succeed By Offering Something You Can't Get On PlayStation Or Xbox, Says Randy Pitchford
I remember people saying the same thing about the Wii U......
Re: Guide: The Best Nintendo Switch Micro SD Cards
Ouch!!!! Just more cost stacking up for the consumer while the memory provided in the bundle hasn't moved on a bit. I'm not against them having a smaller memory than rivals but 32gb is a rip off given the price. It's probably re-used hardware from in sold Wii u units π
I'll probably get a 64gb card when I eventually get a switch. I simply don't trust larger SD cards due to their higher failure rate!
Re: Random: Epic Haul Of Boxed NES Items Found In Abandoned RV
@AhabSpampurse I always prefer to buy local of scruffy games stores if you have any left where you live. Harder and harder to do it this way nowπ₯
Otherwise, try and see if their are any trader groups on Facebook that include your area, try geek trader (insert city name hereπ) or something like that.
Re: Japanese My Nintendo Store Goes Live For Switch Pre-Orders, Promptly Crashes
Yay Nintendo preporations!! Always soo good at stock and preorders and electronic purchases and online. So glad they are as good at this now as in the past. Fills me with confidence that they understand their own market demands πππ
Re: Random: Epic Haul Of Boxed NES Items Found In Abandoned RV
Wow, that would be a great buzz finding all that. I'm an n64 man , so I guess I can still dream of buying a house with a loft filled with translucent consoles and copies of conker's quest and Banjo tooie......
I'd settle for a new pad even....looks up at loft hatch
Re: First Impressions: Getting Some Laps In With FAST RMX
Great same that deserves more people playing it. The improvements will fulfill the potential the game had on Wii u!
One big question for this and mk8 is whether we can play local-switch to switch multiplayer without split screen? The trailers all show a 4 way split on 4 screens!!
Re: Soapbox: It's Nintendo's Job To Make Switch A Success, Not EA's, Ubisoft's Or Capcom's
Really good article, we're starting to see the real Nintendo life opinions slipping through nowπ I respect that a lot!
My views have been pretty negative so I'll save you another rant today........
