During the 'Kinda Funny Video Game Showcase' on Twitch, Limited Run announced physical editions for the indie game of the year Celeste and the retro hit Windjammers.
Windjammers, developed by DotEmu, will be available to pre-order from LRG website on 21st December and Celeste by Matt Makes Games can be secured from 1st January onward. Below is a look at both of the box arts:
Right now, there's no word on when exactly either of these games will ship or how much each one will cost.
Will you be adding these titles to your physical Switch library? Let us know in the comments.

I've seen a lot of people say that they won't be buying Celeste until they announce a physical copy so I hope all those people take this opportunity to grab it. It's an absolutely amazing game and the more people that get to experience it, the better.
Don't they have to announce a Wii U game too ?
Nice! I might pick up Celeste!
This always has to happen when I'm broke.
I can’t say the cover art on Celeste represents the aesthetic of the game very well. Looks like a JRPG cover.
Awesome, another game I’ve really been wanting to play.
@IHateTombs Do you mean the collector’s edition? Because Shantae’s standard edition is available for a full two weeks as an open preorder, as are all their Switch releases.
nba 2k18 is $12 on amazon right now, so yah I'll be picking it up if it's 15-30.
These are on my list, but I wouldn’t pay a premium for two games that together only cost $40.
Oh ya. That’s the stuff.
Need that Celeste
@IHateTombs Oh haha, I didn’t see the part where you said CE for some reason. Yeah, that would suck. I’ve never tried to get them before since I can’t justify the cost, but I’ve heard a lot of complaints of things selling too fast, I think they should maybe increase the number of copies for more popular games. Did you get on that waiting list thing?
Yay! I've been waiting for a physical release of Celeste, and was really terribly tempted by the sales on the download version. I'm glad I managed to hold off.
CELESTE is a modern masterpiece in terms of emotional storytelling, sweeping music and sublime visuals. I may have to pre order a copy of said masterpiece posthaste!
@HollowGrapeJ Same thing happens to me whenever there is a Criterion Collection FLASH SALE...
Kinda wish these things were just released retail. I've got my eye on The Messenger physical release, but I'm also worried that I'll miss it entirely. Seems like a bad way to promote a physical release.
Finally my funds can go dry again....NO CE ok that's killing my budget limits.
I’m tempted at getting Celeste, but I don’t understand why such a popular, much talked about and award winning game doesn’t get a regular physical release.
Both are great video games that deserve a physical copy Nintendo Switch.
I really like the cover for Celeste...makes a kind of mountain with her hair.
@BensonUii I have the same issue. Would love to pick up a physical release but can't justify the cost of ordering Limited Run games from the UK.
Grabbing both! Yes pricing is not always easy to justify, however overall, LRG manages to sign must-have games and if the pricing of today's retro games is a reference for Switch games in 30 years, I do not have to worry about my future pension
Not that it will be easy as a serious collector to sell any of these games... Even then I would like to leave behind a nice legacy
Only thing that annoys me is that it takes like forever to finally receive those ordered LRGames.
@PixelStef They are made to order. They are upfront with that, so you don't really have much right to be annoyed about waiting lol. Maybe ya just lack patience
@IHateTombs there is a waiting list. They cancel orders of people that break rules
@GrailUK unfortunately I disagree here. Just because you are honest about it doesn’t make it right. With them using preorder money to fund the production (how many businesses get away with this???) it means they are flooding their own market as there is no risk. They only produce what they have already sold. So they can keep releasing... without worrying about demand. I suspect that’s why they end up releasing so much because some title don’t sell like they hoped so they bring forward another. Last few months their releases have been bonkers.
@IHateTombs What @Stocksy said, they do have a wait list for orders that exceed the limit per person, and for replacements/ exchanges/ cancellations. I believe you can request to cancel an order within 24 hours of making the order, but I’m not 100% sure.
@Stocksy For me their releases are manageable, since I ignore PS4 and Vita games and CEs, but I know many have an issue with their busy release schedule when you take all systems into account. For the Switch, however, which is the only console they have preorder windows for regularly, they rarely have more than two releases per month, and I don’t think they ever bring forward releases to make up for disappointments.
Also, I’m not sure what you meant by flooding their market? If they’re releasing exactly how many copies were preordered, doesn’t that make it impossible to flood the market? Unless you mean flooding the limited games market as a whole, in which case I probably don’t know enough about it to comment, considering I just buy the Switch games that interest me.
@IHateTombs This is quoted from a tweet of theirs from July:
“Open a support ticket at limitedrungames.freshdesk.com to get added [to the wait list].”
@Stocksy Hmm. I guess that's one way to look at it. But conversely, you have to order cards in batches of 1000. So, if you mis-judge demand it could be career endingly bad. Major publishers have the luxury of selling their games to stores for them to sell. I'm not sure of a better way of doing it, especially with digital on the rise. But hey, if you can think of one then you are a better man than me
Picking up Celeste for sure i have heard nothing but good things about it. I wish the physical release of hollow knight didn't get scraped, that was my number one indie game i wanted physically.
@GrailUK that would mean they are keeping 100 copies of the Shantae CE behind
(2900)
@PixelStef
It's such a shame that Limited Run Games are so expensive to have delivered to the UK. I bought Axiom Verge in the shops here and it would have been nice to have that option for a few other games on the e-shop.
I think it's a shame in general that great games like Celeste and Golf Story aren't given a real physical release but I understand why. I don't consider Limited Run to be a "real" publisher. They're just producing physical copies of games as cool premium collectables for a niche audience.
Gonne have to get them again then, after getting the LRG Vita versions.
@IHateTombs It's sad but true. You have to be online, logged in, and have your account up to date in order to have a chance. I got the Shantae special edition ($64.95) because I was online watching the seconds countdown. Not everyone can do this. They said only 2900 units available and then they were gone in 3 minutes.
You can buy two units per customer so that doesn't even mean 2900 customers got them. Ask a friend who can be online at that time. I've tried that in the past.
Because of my bad memory and the long time it takes for LRG to print/deliver their games; It feels like getting a surprise present once or twice a month for every CE box delivered. I can't wait to buy Celeste CE, forget about it... Then be surprised months later when I open it.
@subpopz I'm hoping it's a reversible cover
Yes to Celeste.
@subpopz "Sorry, that cover art for Celeste is not good. Why didn't they use the electronic cover art that's been used for the game?"
where is that?
ooh, Is this just for the US though?
Got Celeste last night bc it won awards and screamed when I saw that it was over a GB for the download... it’s just a pixel game wtf??!?! Still excited though
@subpopz no way that looks ways better the other LRG looks so gloomy. Wonder what they were thinking at that time.
Interested in them, but shipping costs, man...
Hell that cover of Celeste on switch is just awful (the ps one is only a bit better too).
I would like a physical copy of my favourite game of the year but not with that cover and at the price would cost me in Europe...
Im super excited for this!!! I have all of their Switch releases so far and they just keep killimg it with the game choices!!!!
Eh, I'm not going to double-dip on Celeste. Shantae non-CE was worth it though.
I was thinking about picking this up earlier last week, but then smash bros happened and I thought that it might get a physical soon. Turns out I was right!
There is another good platformer called Pankapu.
It's also a game to test and there is also a physical version on Warned Collector, it juste came put friday !
@NotTelevision I agree, though I think the cover looks great. I'm glad they changed the art from the common poster/promotional work, because there already exists a few repro boxes with that artwork, and this gives us something new.
Thank you Nintendolife for this heads up. Just ordered my copy of Windjammers!
