About a week ago, data miners revealed various hidden files in Pokémon GO's code. Among these things, the level cap was found to be at level 40, which would take an eye-watering 5 million experience to achieve. Considering that the Master Ball was also found in the game's code, many assumed that players would be given access to it upon fully leveling up. Unfortunately, the reality is far less exciting.
A Reddit user named _problemz was curious as to what would happen upon maxing out a trainer, so they used a bot to accelerate the process. They bought 125 Lucky Eggs to achieve the feat, raking in nearly 300,000 XP per hour. After all that work, even with a bot, this is what was awarded:
- 40 Ultra Balls
- 40 Max Potions
- 40 Max Revives
- 40 Razz Berries
- 4 Incense
- 4 Lucky Eggs
- 4 Incubators
- 4 Lure Modules
All told, it's not a bad haul, but considering that it would take an actual user years to hit the same mark, it seems a little anticlimactic. Of course, there are theories that this level cap will be raised at a later date, and that it will become easier to reach 40 as a result. Also, for those of you that are concerned, _problemz deleted the account as soon as they'd seen what happens at level 40.
What do you think? Will you ever reach level 40? Do you think the cap will be raised? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

This is a comment... also I do hope the cap us increased
The game hasnt been out for a month yet and theyre talking about constant updates so I'm sure the cap will raise
My hero!!
And supposedly some guy in the UK has caught all the avaliable pokemon
😷
@Arctic_Nights And according to him you can get the region specified Pokémon in eggs. The only one he traveled for was Tauros.
@crazyj2312 Exactly. This is mobile gaming now. It's meant to change over time and be updated. This game we are playing now will only be experienced by the people playing it now. In a few months it will be very different. Good or bad that's the nature of it and it is good for keeping people involved.
It's remarkably more fun now that the whole fam can log in without delay now — see? It's already a different game for us than it was in the beginning.
@Arctic_Nights Someone in New York did, too! Think he was level 31.
Just like it was when you actually caught all 150 Pokemon in the first series. I remember playing, long after I'd beaten the Elite 4, and catching #150 for me. Then all you really get is a certificate? Seriously?
I'm L5, so well on my way!
Disappointing, I was already imagining a guy with a huge backpack that left his hometown since the release of Pokemon GO, traveling all around the world for meet thousands of Pokemon and Pokestops till eventually reaching the level cap, proving to be the really best as noone ever was... Instead it was only a bot -.-
What do you get for level 2? Ain't reached it yet, actually forget it I don't want spoilers!!
@Arctic_Nights I wonder if he actually achieved it without cheating? (location spoofing/online location tools) I smell a Rattata!
I'm going to hit Level 20 todayyy~!!!! xD
I was expecting a bit more
@MitchVogel It takes 5 million to get from Level 39 to 50 and 25 million total, not 50 million.
They need to wait a really long time before increasing the cap. Let the player base level out first. Some people just have no life and can spend all day with this game, but for those of us that can't you would be setting up a moving target and basically making it impossible for them to ever have a chance at gym battles.
@LegendOfPokemon Ha, good catch!
