Re: Fortnite Turns To The Dark Side With New AI-Generated Darth Vader Chats

TheSaneInsanity

@Splash_Woman weren't AI voices already a thing by then? I think he'd be fully aware that his voice would be used that way.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/timlammers/2024/09/09/james-earl-jones-signed-over-rights-for-ai-to-recreate-darth-vaders-voice/
According to this article, that was the reason he signed his voice away at all, this is from september of 2024, which is before this fortnite collaboration
It's also in this article too:

Edit: idk what James-Earl thought of homophobia, but screw homophobia anyway

Re: Nintendo Lawyer Breaks Down What Makes An Emulator Illegal

TheSaneInsanity

I agree with 2 of the points nintendo makes here. Except for the security keys, because emulating security keys is part of making a system work. if the user takes the security key out of the device to insert into the emulator, there should be no problem. It's the equivalent of exchanging parts to a new location. I'm not here to argue if the user is doing something bad by copying or moving the key.

I think the game preservationists should act more like that big library in europe that stores a single copy of each old book for people to read. instead of massive piracy, and everybody getting a free copy just in case. That isn't necessary to make old games playable.

Re: "I Was Honestly Surprised" - Yoshio Sakamoto On Nintendo's Approval Of Emio

TheSaneInsanity

I knew I wasn't crazy, the orange highlighted words are hints, they literally mention that in the first paragraph of the interview from Miyachi
"However, we felt that if we simply copied the format of previous installments, it may be difficult for today’s players, so we added some tweaks, such as coloring key words in conversations to give players a hint about what to do next. "

Yall here at Nintendolife told me it wasn't real but it was. I had so much trouble in The girl who stands behind and The missing Heir, because the commands were obtuse, but in Emio I was speeding through the story demo because of this.

I need to actually buy this game.

Re: Catly Developer Says Game Does Not Use Generative AI, Blockchain Tech, Or NFTs

TheSaneInsanity

@VoidofLight I haven't examined the music in detail, the developer says it was done by a real person. As for the icons... I think they're just in engine screenshots.
I haven't seen the promotional art you're talking about so let me search it up. The one with the purple coat, long hair, and yellow sunglasses could be AI I admit... let me check the strands of its fur. Ah it's melting into the carpet... Ok then, still be responsible with your dislike.

Re: Catly Developer Says Game Does Not Use Generative AI, Blockchain Tech, Or NFTs

TheSaneInsanity

I think looking closely at the eyes of the cats can tell me if it's AI generated. It looks like a cubemap reflected in the eyes that's the same for all cats, except the one with explicit anime eyes. They even have the fact that cat eyes are reflective in pictures here, when the spotted cat stares directly at the camera. The fur is definitely expensive, but not impossible. Maybe it's some fancy GPU instancing?

I think this game is a victim of it's artstyle. IE the saturation, the blobby shapes that are reminiscent of 50-60s archetechture. The solid colors, and the lighting. Those all read as AI to me on first glance. The fact that they got the fact that cats staring directly at cameras have glowing eyes, tells me that this is not ai generated, because in what world is that the generic solution for programming graphics? (AI always puts out the most likely, or rather the most generic solution, it is autocorrect on steroids. Image ai tends to hallucinate individual pixels, and I don't see any of that noise in the footage on the site.)

I hear that people made up a six fingered hand to be angry about, and that could be true, and if so I take everything but the cat eyes back. That is attention to detail.

I don't like how much hate this is getting. It feels like pessimism has infected every corner of the internet. I wish people would try to be kind to eachother, even if someone does something bad or wrong... I'm sad. I want everyone to try harder to be good to eachother, not to just be good for the sake of justice.

People are trying to be good yes, by calling this out and protecting artists. That's justice.

I think that being good to other people can be more than just enforcing justice. It's kindness and giving people strength to push forward.

I wonder if the people at the company are either sad, or if they simply don't feel the hate writhing under the surface because of selfishnes. Companies are made of people, and people cannot completely defend themselves from emotional harm. From personal experience, I become selfish when I need to close my emotions off. I stop caring. I say hurtful and harmful things. I take advantage to try to get anything to soothe my emotions. And when I'm lucky enough to have the guts to try and fix things when I can open up again.

I wonder if the culture of not caring is due to people attacking eachother without caring about eachother's thoughts and feelings, or needs.

I refuse to stop caring. Unless someone cares a whole awful lot, it's not gonna get better, it's not -DR. Seuss. I'll add to that that people need to care carefully, not just swing around their ability to care like a hammer.

@Samalik You're really passionate about this. Seriously, 1/6th of the comments section is you. The original is still available in a bundle. If you don't have that to play the original on then whatever. I want to have a comments section that isn't filled with pointless complaining so yeah... you can guess what's gonna happen.

Re: Japanese Charts: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Surpasses 6 Million Units Sold

TheSaneInsanity

@ThatGuyWho It's not about forgetting or forgiving. It's about thinking rationally, I can edit out the part about forgiveness from the previous message and my arguement will still stand. I'm glad I can think rationally, in that case. I know my mom suffered because she'd irrationally explode at a single slight against her... She shut everyone who loved her in her life out because of it, not just her abusers, but everyone. She only takes gifts of food in the mail because food can't be returned.

I said that part was fair to say is bad. But I don't need to worry about it or be angry about it, just desserts will be served, and thus this scenario is unlikely to continue.

I often wonder if abstaining because you remember a punishment is any different from abstaining because you are who you are. Does it matter? Are the reasons wrong but the actions right? (I'm talking about the scenario in which nintendo's lawsuit is thrown out, and nintendo has the opportunity to try this again.)

I think we all remember a moment like that in life. Where we did the right thing for the wrong reasons. We need to press on anyway despite that question.

Re: Japanese Charts: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Surpasses 6 Million Units Sold

TheSaneInsanity

@ThatGuyWho I can't live with irrational anger. It just makes me bitter at everything and disatisfied with life. Now and the future matter more than what mattered in the past. What the past is for is judging the potential for harm in the future, It's not something to be fixated on forever. If I miss the mark in judging who they are now I would be missing the point of using the past to learn, and I'm more likely to do that if my judgement is clouded by "Righteous" anger.

Right now I do think Nintendo is reaching too far with their Palworld lawsuit... specifically patenting game mechanics. That's fair. I believe it may get thrown out in court for patent abuse. In that case Nintendo will get their just desserts, and I don't even need to lift a finger or be angry about it.

By Patent abuse I mean that they patented this mechanic after other games have used it, and they patented a game mechanic.

As an aside, here are the negatives of Anger. Anger clouds rational thinking, Anger is violent, Anger is the emotion I see most often in propoganda. The internet in general needs better anger management skills.

Re: Japanese Charts: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Surpasses 6 Million Units Sold

TheSaneInsanity

@ThatGuyWho get real. It's really easy to claim that any demographic of people is depraved. I've done research on Nintendo. I know they have an internal corruption hotline. I know they try to be reserved with takedowns nowadays. I know that they've added fan requests like the Roost. They put great care into their reasoning for patching Splatoon. I think the fans hate the company more than the company hates the fans. Am I to take you at your word that a company hates its fans when it shows sincere care for quality, for keeping itself from becoming corrupt, and listens to popular fan requests once in a blue moon...? No. I'm more likely to think you have an agenda against that company, and that you're being insincere, uncaring for facts and opinions of others. Especially when you dismiss them as depraved or insane.

Re: Nintendo Is Reportedly Targeting AI-Generated Mario Pictures

TheSaneInsanity

@SteveDaSteve Trust me, you're never going to convince people of this. I have trouble wrapping my head around plagarism, and barely get why it's awful... I still get it to an extent. AI confuses me even more. If you want to be right, wait a few years for the dust to settle. If it's truly harmless people will change their tune to be supportive... like they do for videogames that have some flaws.
I'm trusting the internet on this one, because again, I already have trouble wrapping my head around plagarism, and this has so many more layers of abstraction.
As for now, the comments section isn't for arguing.

Re: Anniversary: Nintendo Is 135 Years Old Today

TheSaneInsanity

@VoidofLight I'm now imagining evil houses with chainsaws out to destroy the other houses around them, that are pressured by an abusive system and other houses to become evil houses. I think this is an apt descption of coorporations. I'll leave it at that.

Re: Anniversary: Nintendo Is 135 Years Old Today

TheSaneInsanity

@VoidofLight I have heavily edited that comment, Coorporations are equivalents of houses, of course a house isn't going to feel empathy, it's a building. The people who live or work there are perfectly capable, and should be judged as people. I know you aren't saying that the people inside are automatically all bad, because that's ridiculous.

Reposted for your benefit.
"Companies aren't your friend." Streamers aren't your friend either, neither are content creators, but they still can be good people with flaws. Companies are masses of people, who may or may not deserve congratulations for their hard work. People with hopes and dreams, flaws and crimes, all together trying to make something special.

People tell you the company isn't your friend is the same way a parent might tell you nobody on the internet is your friend, and neither are the majority of people you meet on the street, that doesn't stop them from being important or good people. There are friends on the internet, but I can agree that saying something equivalent of a house for people is your friend is insane. We live in a world of 8 billion.... let's just get along."
